Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Does any one know what a show is supposed to look like? I have not had one before (that I know of) but yesterday I found a kind of bloody mucus when I went ot the loo. I have had some spotting ever since. Nothing much but it is there every time I go to the loo! Is that what happens with a show or is it something else?

You would think on Number 3 I would be a bit more clued up.
Maybe it is just wishful thinking! And a desire to have this baby sooner rather than later.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 17:24

Ronshar, a show looks like a lump of snotty mucus that may or may not contain blood. Have you got any cramps/tightenings. If you are spotting fresh blood, give the hospital a ring to check if it is ok. They might want to check you out...

ronshar · 21/09/2008 17:26

Bugger I was really hopeing that wasnt going to be the answer. I hate going to hospital and hanging around. I was slowly beginning to realise I should probably ring them but was trying to ignore it.
I shall do it after the girls gone to bed.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 17:31

Ronshar - Sorry, didn't want to say something you didn't want to hear. You are probabay ok. I've heard of people spotting a little in labour. Maybe you are starting to labour and are going to have one of those 'silent' labours that you only notice when you have to push.. if you do i'll be so

I only had one small show with DS but have had loads with this one. The last was huge so I think it was probably the last... You might find that you have more over the next few hours/days.

Let us know how you get on.. good luck

star6 · 21/09/2008 17:42

ajm how close are you to labour?? How many shows can one person have? You must be going crazy trying to sort out when this baby is coming out!

hansnava · 21/09/2008 17:45

hi all
cant believe all these babies popping out its sooooo exciting.
well i had a crap day yesterday, went to toilet and i was bleeding so spent most of the day up the hospital. after waiting five hours to be checked out by dr she had a look and said the bleeding wasnt coming from baby but is coming from cervix. she also wants me to go for a scan as she thinks i may have a low lying placenta which i thought they was meant to look out for at the 20weeks scans. so im a little worried about that.

i cant get over how silly some women r over the safety of their babies. while up hospital the lady in the bed next to me had only just gone in after her waters had broke on ..........tuesday, all coz her friend told her she would be alright. after a telling off from the midwife she then said she wasnt staying there to have her baby as she comes from birmingham and her mum was there so was going to drive there (from luton) to have it (bearing in mind her contractions had started and that was the only reason she had come into the hospital at all yesterday). The midwife tried her best to talk her out of it saying because she had left it so long to come in she was at risk of infection and so was her baby. the woman laughed at her saying she thinks her baby will be ok in the end the woman just walked out of the hospital the poor midwife was beside herself worrying about the poor baby.

sorry about the essay i was just totally gobsmacked by all this and couldnt stop thinking about it.

hope all ur babies are beautiful and labours are painfree.

ronshar · 21/09/2008 17:46

OOOOOO I like the idea of a silent labour. Does that mean you get a quiet baby. I would like one of those

AJM, I have had lots of snotty stuff for a couple of weeks but thought nothing of it.

This is really frustrating. How can one woman have three completely different pregnancies/labours? My last two were so late it was all a bit of a rush to get it all in. My waters have been broken and then only went just as DD2 popped into the world. I would love a text book labour but it is obviously not to be!

star6 · 21/09/2008 17:49

WAIT - hold on...
So... a "show" this snotty "fluid"... that's totally separate from your "waters"?? I thought these were connected or the same thing - that some people's waters go all at once, but some little by little (hence, a "show"). I think now it sounds like there's a "show" then later "waters"... are the waters clear, like water?

ronshar · 21/09/2008 17:50

Hansnava, you would be gobsmacked at how stupid some people are. I have had to leave people at home who have broken legs, one chap had been hit over the head with an AXE and I could see his skull. He still didnt want to go to hospital. He could have got menigitis, he didnt give a stuff.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 17:55

Star Officially baby isn't due for another 4 weeks but my body is slowly ramping up to labour. It can't come for another two weeks though as I'm determined to have my homebirth.. It is possible to have lots of shows as the body is able to replace some of the lost plug but as the cervix dilates it is less likely to stay put. Still cramping and having BHs but they are too spaced out/irregular to be anything serious.. just tiring as they've been going all day and night for almost 2 days now.

Have you tried the CD yet?

Ronshar You've probably already thought of this but if you wear a pad between now and when you go to get checked, it will let them see the extent of the blood loss and might save you a few hours. I was stuck in there for hours at 29 weeks while they worked out the extent of my spotting and monitored my pre-term labour.

Oh didn't I say, I'm having the quiet baby this time round. Put the order in weeks ago. No child can cry as much as DS did in the first 48 hours.. even the MWs despaired.
I'd swap a quiet baby for a fast, virtually pain-free labour though...

ronshar · 21/09/2008 17:56

Star. A show is basically the mucus "plug" which has blocked your cervix for the past 40 weeks. Some women get a biggish lump of snotty stuff come away in one go. Others, as you can see, get a little bit come out at different times.
Your waters are what surrounds the baby inside your uterus. Normally the waters break when it is time for baby to be born. Again it is different for everyone. If your waters break then you normally know about it. Try imagining a bucket of warm water being tipped down your legs. They some times have a slight colour to them. But if your waters do break and you see any green/brown colour get straight to hospital as it can be asign of distress in the baby.
Sorry lecture over.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 17:57

Star, the show is not the same as your waters. During pregnancy, the body plugs your cervix with a big lump of snotty mucus to help keep germs at bay. This is what you lose when you have a show. You don't lose your waters until the amniotic sac containing baby bursts or tears.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 17:58

Sorry X-posted.

bethoo · 21/09/2008 17:59

ronshar the pain subsides when i lie down but as soon as i am up the cramps are there, almost ocnstant. been housebound as so painful to walk. when i asked mw she said the back ache is ligaments softening and did not mention SPD. feel queesy as not eaten much due to exdp not taking me food shopping, had a couple of bags of crisps today, aneamia has set in as so fatigued and carrying ds around is tiring me out big time!
have date on wednesdayk, he is coming here though hope i do not go into labour, how to freak a man out! he is irish so cant wait to hear his voice >

star6 · 21/09/2008 18:05

Ok got it I can't believe I'm allowed to have a baby and don't know this stuff! Thank goodness for MN! I thought the mucous plug is what released the waters... but yeah, it makes sense now because the waters are a sack and would have to "break" even after mucous plug is released... should have paid more attention in health class.

AJM - I'm trying the CD tonight before bed. I wanted to save it for tonight because I have work tomorrow So excited! Thanks again so much!!

star6 · 21/09/2008 18:07

bethoo you are one in a million! A date at 9 months pregnant - you're amazing!

ronshar · 21/09/2008 18:07

Love can you not set up internet delivery from supermarket? Less you rely on exdp the better. If you are near labour then crisp are not enough to get you through it! I am wagging my finger at you. Sounds like you have the right idea to cheer you up though. I come from Irish family and I lovvvvveee the accent. Every time I go to Dublin I just stand in the street and listen. Surprised not been arrested yet

ronshar · 21/09/2008 18:29

Poo, bum, bugger. I have to go in for a "little bit of monitoring". If I dont come out there is going to be trouble. [frowning face]. At least they didnt say, what! Go away silly woman.

star6 · 21/09/2008 18:32

Good luck, ronshar!!! I hope you come back with a baby!

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 18:43

Good luck! Hope that either they keep you in for a really short time or that you come back with your baby in your arms..

sambrads · 21/09/2008 19:40

oh my ladies alot has happened today

so so excited for you all

does any of you believe that sex will put you into labour???
i was at a party today and a woman told me to have sex ???

having lots of pains in my back tonight and feel like the baby is going to pop out as i can feel alot of pressure between my legs like everytime she pushes off the top of my belly the more she is coming out my bits does this make sense???

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 19:50

It's supposed to. Semen contains lots of prostaglandins, a natural version of the stuff that they use for inductions and your body will release oxytocin which should bring on contractions... why not give it a go.. what's the harm?

Sorry you are so uncomfortable but maybe it's doing some good.

ajm200 · 21/09/2008 19:53

Just had a call from MIL. DH and DS were at a family party today, I got out of it as it was 200 miles away. She's not happy that we are not intending to go to another family do on 25th October when baby is due on 23rd.

She thinks it is all my fault as baby will either still be in my tum and easy to look after or newborn and sleeping all the time.. shows it's been a while since she's been pregnant or given birth.. obviously has forgotten about all the discomfort.

Oh well, I'll put it down to her age.

twinklytoes · 21/09/2008 20:03

hansvana sounds like you may end up going through the same as me. I didn't have low lying placenta at 20week scan and by 34weeks it was a grade 4 placenta previa and I was admitted to hospital for the duration. hope the scan goes ok.

just back from hospital. dr has done sam's discharge check and all is well. he is going to recommend discharge at the morning ward round with consultant. so all being well sam will have his hearing check first thing and he'll be home by lunchtime . he'll be fully discharged but a referral has been made for a hip scan due to dd1s issues but initial tests showed no clicky hips, just means a trip into oxford to the bigger hospital.

star6 · 21/09/2008 20:10

Don't let her stress you at all ajm. She's being ridiculous. She has obviously forgotten what it's like to be pregnant.
