Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

No not at all sambrads I just had a good laugh remembering the positive test and our reaction... me dumping 5 positive sticks in front of DH and him saying "that can't be true, you'll have to ask a doctor". It wasn't long before we were excited about every little detail and worried about every little thing Then we realized how lucky we were, especially since lots of women need help with conception or it takes a long time. Now, we are so happy and feel so fortunate to have this baby on the way
Although... still high anxiety about the changes

4andnotout · 20/09/2008 09:06

Morning all
Well we finally got round to buying the bits for my hospital bag, dp nearly had another attack when he paid £25 for 2 bra's He was rather shocked at my sheer volume of norkage!
DD3 is 1 today, she even woke up at 3.50am which was the exact time she was born, after chatting away and rolling on my head she went back to sleep till 7. Now waiting for dp to surface so that i can run a bath for me and dd3.
Hope everyone enjoys the sunshine

congrats iuseantiageingstuff!!!!!!

you definately had a big baby boy
good job you did not go to term

pistachio i think we no more than the actual mw at times

ajm200 · 20/09/2008 11:16

iuseantiageingstuff Congratulations!

Pistachio Bravissimo are good if you can find one of their shops. The fitting I had at M&S last time was hopeless, the bra didn't even touch my ribcage and the cups were baggy. Sorry you are having such a hassle getting your stuff sorted for the birth.. what a pain. Don't read the next bit if it will wind you up.. (sorry)

Good news, had my homebirth signed off this morning with the minimum of fuss. The midwives bring a homebirth kit of drugs with them so no hassle with visiting the GP. The kit including G&A arrives on the 1st along with my pool. The list of requirements last time was huge this time, I've just got to provide good lighting, plastic sheeting, warm towels, strong tea, toast and biscuits. They are willing to allow labour to stall for up to 4 hours before a hospital transfer and might go longer if there is a decent DVD to watch

It seems my MW is really pro homebirth, had all of her children at home. Officially I can have a homebirth from the 8th but she is going to raise this at the next meeting and I might be allowed to have it at home from 2nd! A great result! My tum is an odd shape as baby is lying diagonally with its head by my hip. It was partially down in my pelvis last checkup so seems to have bobbed back up. Been told to bounce on the ball a lot so that's me officially given an excuse to avoid housework today..

Got a whole child free day tomorrow, what will I do with myself.

07mumstheword · 20/09/2008 13:06

Congrats Iuseantiageingstuff that was a healthy weight for 3 wks early

Pistachio Sorry you're being given the run around regarding bits for the homebirth just at the time when you need everything to be going smoothly.
Mothercare have been quite good at measuring me for bras, I'm going back next wk to get the nursing ones.

I'm glad to hear that so many of you are getting "cold feet" first timers and old hands alike I'm getting prepared for the body shock, emotional shock, lack of sleep, elation of holding new baby in my arms but can't get my head round how I will cope with two DC!!!! I know it will all be ok but just seems a bit daunting

jenwa · 20/09/2008 15:06

Iuseantiageingstuff congrats on your baby boy. I hope you had an ok birth?

4andnotout rofl with the sheer volume of norkage you said!

Had bit of grump last night as DH wanted to watch local rugby team play today and I was annoyed as thought he would be in loft but apparantly he cant do anything up there until we get more dosh for stairs etc. Thats fine but was upset as thought if he was not up there like he had been for last few weeks he may have wanted to spend time with me and DD anyway got upset and cross and we had bit of a barney and all ok now. He has however hoovered, mowed the lawn, got up with DD this am, washed floors and put the shopping away I am not sure if it is guilt thing so he can then go to rugby or is actually being nice never mind, he has done it all.

My mother got dd tonight as we going for meal with friends but she has kindly taken DD now so I can put feet up or sleep or do what I want how lovely!

I have stopped stressing re birth etc as totally ready now and actually prefer for baby to come sooner than later, just NOT on the 14th Oct as MIL b'day and Nephews too.

KSal · 20/09/2008 15:44

Hi all, quick and happy update. Emma Rae was born on Tuesday 16th at 8.56 pm weighing in at 6lbs (perfect for a 36 weeker!) So i completely avoided induction by doing DIY. In fact everthing came on so quickly i was fully dilated by the time i got to hospital and it was all over within 4 hours!!

We've been in the hospital ever since, just making sure she can feed properly - she's started breastfeeding which i am really delighted about (although in a bit of pain!) - and very releived to be home at last! great to hear of other happy arrivals. I'm off to get some kip!

Congratulations KSal!

First natural birth in the group and first girl too.. well done

ajm200 · 20/09/2008 17:16

I hope the rest of us avoid inductions too..

star6 · 20/09/2008 18:30

I just had a great day out and about with DH... really enjoying our time just the two of us, having great conversation and just walkin by the river and through town, but looked at a lot of baby shops and talked a lot about the baby!!! It was lovely spending the day together. Although all that walking around has made me knackered. Relaxing on the sofa now while he makes dinner.

We went to our favourite sandwich place for lunch and the guy made my sandwich totally wrong - left off the avocado and cheddar... that was the essence of my sandwich! He clearly wasn't listening and just put other things on (still vegetarian though). I sent it back and told him what I wanted and he brought it back with those things PLUS mayonnaise!! There is pretty much nothing I despise more than mayonnaise! I was near tears, explaining that I did NOT ask for mayonnaise and it really makes me sick. He took it back and brought it back to me... with mayonnaise bits all over the tomatoes and cucumbers still... he had just scraped it off!!!!!
I'm usually a really easygoing person, so DH was a bit stunned

emkay · 20/09/2008 18:55

Many congratulations to our four 'new' mums - this is what it's all about!

I've been having exactly your feelings 07mumstheword about 2 DCs - daunted does sum it up. We had such a lovely newborn period with DD and I'm trying to imagine the same pattern of feeds, sleeps etc with a toddler thrown in... it will just be very different. Thinking positive is definitely the way to go though so keep the lovely birth news coming!

jenwa · 20/09/2008 19:03

ksal congrats, really pleased all went well.

Just quick post as off out now for dinner, hope it goes better than your lunch star!!

rowanmac · 20/09/2008 19:22

Just catching up, was totally convinced LO was going to make an appearance last night due to huge amount of various pains but slept better last night and they've all gone. Started the raspberry leaf capsules today.

Daunted is how I'm feeling at the moment, DS being 3 and at nursery is suddenly so easy that I can't believe i'm going back to square 1. It'll be fine la la la, everyone else copes!

About raspberry leaf tea...
Since I want to hold onto the baby for 40 weeks before delivery, should I just avoid it? I had been drinking it... but then stopped thinking it might bring on labour. Does it just help with the labour or does it bring it on?
jenwa enjoy your dinner

emkay · 20/09/2008 20:20

I think that raspberry leaf tea is only meant to be avoided if you have a history of miscarriage / pre-term delivery. I don't think that it can induce labour on its' own if the baby is not otherwise ready to come out. What it should do is strengthen your uterine contractions so that when you do anyway go into labour things move along more quickly. That's what I'm hoping anyway! So, yes, I think it just helps with labour.

My gut feeling is that if you are going to go earlier than 40 weeks it will happen whether or not you take the RLT, but if it gives you peace of mind then stop taking it or reduce the quantity.

My DD was born at 38 weeks and I'm pretty convinced this one will do a similar thing... I think the 40 weeks is quite an arbitrary measure and that some women are full term earlier / later than that... I know it's hard to do given that you're working but it's best to put your feet up as much as possible if you really don't want an early surprise!

If it helps, I would have said exactly the same as you last time about wanting the full 40 weeks - my waters did start leaking at work when I was finishing up so no lovely maternity leave at home before the baby! But I wouldn't have changed the birth I had for the world and being two weeks early with a healthy baby was actually just wonderful.

star6 · 20/09/2008 20:32

Thanks, emkay
Also - my friend is having a baby shower for me 1 day before I turn 39 weeks. She's put so much thought into it and I don't want to ruin it for her

sambrads · 20/09/2008 20:45

star u am taking raspberry tablets i dont think they bring labour on they help your womb for labour

welcome emma rea oh cant believe we have a baby list its so exciting

i am bouncing like mad on my ball trying to get this little angel out

bethoo · 20/09/2008 21:51

i can barely walk. serious period type pains and a pulling sensation down there plus chronic back ache! heartburn is constant too! am almost 38 weeks on monday, could this be it? dont want to be like this for next 2 weeks though ds has managed to destroy all my hard work tidying/cleaning in one afternoon! bit depressing actually that it is never ending cleaning, when will it be complete? washed some baby girl clothes my friend gave me and i was sad as just thought ''oh god more washing!!!''
