Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

WheresTheAuPair · 19/09/2008 09:20

ajm sounds like a good nesting is kicking in! can i have some of your energy please?

star I agree about the engaged head reducing measurements- my MW on tuesday said his head was now fully engaged and so I am measuring 34cm for 34 weeks- yay! (was something like 36cm for 32 so don't think baby has got smaller in last fortnight!!)

Have a toddler here with a stiff neck! Poor DS woke up at 6am stuck on his front soaking wet. Looks like a) either daddy didn't put his nappy on very well last night (can you imagine that?!) or b) it had slipped down so soaking him and his bedding.

Bless him he was very cold and upset. Stripped him off and wrapped him up well- then noticed that he can't hold his head straight! calpol seems to have kicked in now and he's much happier thanks to Peppa Pig and cbeebies.

Going to pick up P&T's E3 in a bit ooooo. house seems to have been invaded by baby stuff with no home (DH MUST clear out room this wkend or there will be trouble in the WTAP house!) DS has made a bed out of the moses basket for his teddies! so cute.

mum2jakeyroo · 19/09/2008 09:49

Glad everyone is feeling ok. was up half of last night with period type pains and back ache. Still there this morning.

star6 · 19/09/2008 09:58

this never ends. I tried to schedule my 38 week appointment with midwife yesterday after the 36 week one. They had no slots available to see mw. wanted me to see the gp, but gp I was seeing is new and ridiculous and couldn't read my notes and told me since my iron levels keep dropping I should see mw next time, not dr... I think she is just uncomfortable with pregnancy... no idea!! Anyway, so they told me to call hospital and they would fit me in to see a mw... hospital said they won't see me. I should go see my gp. I'm on the verge of tears now... I do not want to go back to that gp - she was no help and the baby is almost about to arrive and I want to see a midwife!!! wtf do I have to do to get an appt with a mw??
SOrry I'm so dramatic and emotional over past few days... hormones out of control.

ladymonkey · 19/09/2008 10:15

Hello! Hope you are all ok today. I haven't posted before but i've read the thread a lot... you've made me laugh and feel better about so many things!

Just wondering.... think i had a show yesterday but it didn't have any blood or brown bits in it....does that matter? Also what does that mean happens now? I am 37+3... I've tried searching on the internet but there is so much conflicting information!!

Hope someone can help....

07mumstheword · 19/09/2008 10:18

Star Ring your MW again and explain GP doesn't want to see you for XYZ reasons and hospital wont see you. There is no other option and insist MW makes 38 wk appt that you need and are entitled to. Mine last time found it easier to pop into my home as no surgery appts available so she should be able to sort something out. Let us know how you get on.

07mumstheword · 19/09/2008 10:20

Hi Ladymonkey Sorry can't help as I never had a show (or at least one that I saw) last time but I'm sure someone will be along soon that can help. Good luck

belgo · 19/09/2008 10:23

ladymonkey - it sounds like the start of a show, but it doesn't necessarily mean that anything is about to happen iminantly. I had shows like this at about 38 weeks with my previous two pregnancies, but I didn't go into labour until past 40 weeks.

But who knows, it's impossible to say! It's a good sign though.

ladymonkey · 19/09/2008 10:24

Thanks for the advice, i'm just so impatient!! Want it out NOW!!!!

belgo · 19/09/2008 10:28

I know the feeling exactly! I'm also 37+3 today, and feeling very uncomfortable. The baby's head has been engeged for a week or so and I feel it's about to drop out, but I know from my previous pregnancies, this feeling could go on for a few more weeks.

ladymonkey · 19/09/2008 10:30

Its so weird knowing that something is definitely going to happen, soonish, but absolutely no idea when! Its my first and everyones stories are so different i wonder how anyone knows when its really happening! What dates did your first ones come out?

belgo · 19/09/2008 10:33

I went just over 40 weeks with dd1, and 41 weeks with dd2. So who knows with this one, it would be lovely to have it at around 39 weeks, but I doubt that will happen.

07mumstheword · 19/09/2008 10:58

This is my second and the scariest thing to me is when will it all happen. I was 4 days early with dd and was already in hospital so was in the the right place at the right time (for me anyway any of those brave ladies having home births ) I only had a 4 hour labour so hoping I get to hospital in time again

perkypopsy · 19/09/2008 11:15

Hi everyone, i thought i'd be able to keep upwith posts now am off work but have just taken an hour to read all the posts since wednesday . Have loads to reply to but now can't remember who said what...PG brain!

congrats to twinkly - and good luck to lozza - am a teeny bit as i was secretly hoping minipops would come early and put me out of my giving birth fear misery. My Doula had an induction for her second baby and said it was a breeze compared to the first so you never know! She also just delivered a VBAC last week and said it went really well - all going in my "good birth stories" pot

star I got those white flashes in my eyes in last week of work. I stood up too quickly and have low BP anyway - and was hungry - which sounds like you were in similar position? I think it is the blood vessels in your eyes that you can see as they try to dilate...not that I'm a doc or anything

I'm on my fifth day of mat leave and I'm bloody knackered - had visions of lying on sofa eating chilled grapes but is yet to happen. Have cancelled all plans for today so I can just rock around on my birthing ball and get my head around the fact that I'm going to give birth and have a baby . we're still back to back here so am glad have my doula to support me through what promises to be a lengthy and painful labour - NICE!

Am going to stop rubbing my tum cos it does bring my bh on - can't rememeber whoposted that but is exctly right - and i thought i was calming them down ha ha

sambrads · 19/09/2008 12:35

hi everyone

ladtmonkey i had a show last friday and still nothing has happened if i were you i would get a birth ball and start bouncing it will get things ready to go

never knew rubbing your tummy brings on bh how strange
i thought rubbing would be soothing shows how silly i am

star my ds will be 2 so he wont really know whats happening if its his birthday or not but still want to make it a special day for him as its all about the baby at the minute.

can someone give me advice on how to get ds to have an afternoon nap ??
he now takes one in his playpen as he loves to lie in there and relax and go to sleep but when the baby comes i will be putting the raising compartment in it and putting her in it

not sure if he will sleep if he is running round like a mad thing .

sambrads · 19/09/2008 12:43

also wanted to say to second time mums what are your plans for your kids when you go into labour ??

my mum is being a nightmare again and says that she will take ds when i go into labour but as soon as baby comes dh has to get s immediately as she will have things to do !!!

really does my head in like what does hse have to do that cant wait she never even said that she is looking forward to see the new baby . i know it shouldnt as i know what my mum is like but she really upsets me.

i know when my time comes to be a granny i will love it and cherish every minute of it my mum only seems to enjoy it when she is boasting about her grandkids but forgets to tell the people she does nothing for them!!

i got my ds new shoes and asked my mum if hse wanted to give me the money for them and give them to my ds for his birthday .
she asked how much they were and i said £28
she said oh my thats an awful lot of money i was not going to spend that much!

like how bloody tight is that i spend more than that on friends kids !!!!

sorry for the rant just needed to get it off my chest

ajm200 · 19/09/2008 12:45

Aubergenie Comfrey is available as a herbal tea from goodness direct. I've used them several times and they are very reliable

ajm200 · 19/09/2008 13:00

Sambrads Don't know what to suggest re an afternoon nap for your DS, mine dropped his nap completely about a week ago and has been cat napping on the sofa at around 5.30 for 20 mins instead. He's teething today and has red hot cheeks, won't eat and is cranky as hell so I've brought his favourite blanket down and made a bed on the sofa hoping he'll doze off but I suspect that the novelty is wearing off and he'll be running around again in a mo.

I know what you mean about childcare. I tied myself in knots with worry over it for the 1st 6 months. My mum is a doting gran as long as it's long distance. She said she'd have him but changed her mind two days later and has now prebooked bad health for the next 3 months. She honestly said not to expect to see her as she'll be ill as the changing weather doesn't suit her.. really . SIL said she'd take him but is now moving to Dubai on 20th Oct, baby is due 23rd. I mentioned this to my friend recently when she was saying how difficult it was to get her MIL to take the kids and she offered instantly to take DS. He loves her to bits and is inseperable from her son so it couldn't be better, another friend has volunteered to be contingency just in case. Friends are so much better than my family. I'm having a homebirth so will leave DS asleep upstairs if baby comes at night.

Sorry a bit of an essay. I hope you can get something sorted out. Will any of your friends help?

bethoo · 19/09/2008 13:07

sambrads my exdp mum is the same, she only sees ds because i take him to the shop where she works. she never calls asking to see him and has not even asked what am i going to do when i go into labour. tbh i ma giving up on the whole family as she was incredibly rude to me the other day anyway.

i would have thought that rubbing tummy if brings on BH would be good as surely all this practice for the tummy would be good in that it would help prepare you for what is to come and at the same time like an exercise for the uterus so it is stronger during actual labour? or am i a glutton for punishment?

i find sitting down or lying down i am fine but once i stand up/walk my back is in bits!

ajm200 · 19/09/2008 13:25

Star, If you can't get this sorted out call the hospital and ask to speak to the supervisor of midwives either over the phone or face to face.

ajm200 · 19/09/2008 13:30

Yes! favourite blanket on the sofa and a cuddle from me worked, he's sound asleep. Had to get up though as I was dozing off too.
Going to take 20 mins to put the baby stuff away while the help is napping, that way it might actually stay in the cupboard for more than a min. Then I might give in to the nap too.

loulou33 · 19/09/2008 14:59

Hi all,

Sadly me and joe are still in hosp. I'm fine but Joe's billirubin levels still high - now down to one light and feeding well. Getting very fed up with still being in hosp....ds1 doesn't understand and wants me home - heartbreaking to hear him on phone asking when i'm coming home. He has been to visit and has been great with Joe but want to be at home and show off new baby. Probably home mon/tues if all goes well (fingers crossed). Hospital ave been great - have room on neonatal ward with ensuite and nurses can't do enough for me - really fab hospital (but i am biased cos i work there but it is really good) Sorry you're experience hasn't been so good Twinkly - hope you're home soon.

Don't want to write too much about induction as don't want to scare those who may behaving one but it is VERY VERY painful compared to natural labour. contractions very fast and no real lead up so can't take in gas and air fast enough, early enough to manage peak of contraction. I was BEGGING for morphine but dh as very firm with me and mw that i had clearly stated didn't want it (bastard). he was right but i was desparate - i gave in when i found out i was fully dilated and felt like pushing. Very wierd sensation that i didn't get with ds as he was OP and completely stuck so not ready for pushing.
Words of advice: take arnica it really helps.
Have a mantra during contractions to help you cope. Mine was 'it will pass, it will pass.....its passing its passing etc. Positive mental attitude is vital, when i started to get negative it hurt 10 times more.
Don't fight contractions. It may sounds twee but going with them and following what you're body tells you is vital. I tried to fight away from contractions and urge to push and it made it hurt more - once i just listened to my body, threw g&a away doens't help when pushing) it was much easier... phew
Take lavender oil with you to put on pillow to help you sleep as you're body will still be in labour mode so muscles will be all tense.
Take ear plugs as very noisy - i had single room but could still hear buzzers etc going all night.

Must get back to hosp as Joe due a feed. Hope you are well twinkly toes and good luck to those about to give birth.

Will post piccies when get home
xxx

sambrads · 19/09/2008 16:13

oh loulou hopefully you and joe will get home at the start of the week and you ds1 can start playing the big brother

you have kind of answered my question on does induction hurt more than normal labour so thank you. i do agree with you on the breathing and gas and air its so hard to prepare yourself as you have one constant contraction there is no such thing as timing them or having 5 mins apart

hopefully will go myself this time all is looking good but you just never know with mother nature in charge!!

thanks bethoo and ajm its good to know th i am not the only person that thinks family stink
just wish they would see what unneed stress they put us under !!

myjob Glad your baby is ok. back to back is nuisance though.. Sounds like you'll be spending lots of time on your hands and knees from now on with your bum up in the air then

LouLou Hope Joe is better soon and you can both go home

Welcome to the group Ladymonkey

Got the MW coming tomorrow to book my homebirth so keep your fingers crossed that it goes to plan.

Daft thing is she won't do my 36 week check at the same time. I've got to go to the surgery on Monday for that. I'm gonna get her to have a prod at the bump though as it is the oddest shape today, really sticking out on the right with nothing at the top or left and has really shrunk, loads of people have commented on it.. Maybe she is a baby yoga expert already
