Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

I think she would appreciate it. It's always better to show your appreciation - she won't be offended or embarrassed, at least on the inside, she'll be really happy to know that she's appreciated.

ajm200 · 18/09/2008 14:29

Ok.. sent hubby to Woolworths. I'll wrap them and send them from DS then there's no way she can argue.

Aubergenie · 18/09/2008 14:53

Thanks for the tip about the telemetric monitor Hedgepig. I'll ask them. I've been trying to switch hospitals and just found out that I've got my booking in appointment on Monday(not that I'm cutting it fine or anything, at 38 +6!!). Good luck today with the scan ? must be really nerve-wracking. Let us know, won?t you.

Ajm ? I think chocs or flowers would be a lovely gesture. I certainly wouldn?t be offended if someone bought some for me.

Sambrads ? it sounds exciting. Good luck!

Glad you?re feeling a bit better Star. I hope you get on OK at the doc?s.

jenwa · 18/09/2008 16:08

ajm choccies fab and especially from DS, that is always a plus factor that would be kind and she should not be embarrased but even if she is a little I am sure they will go down well when she eats them

Feeling guilty as I spoke to DH earlier and he told me to take it easy so I lay on my bed and my dog came up with me and we both fell asleep! Was obvioulsy tired but when DH rang I felt guilty that I had slept but he was happy as said I needed to rest. It makes me feel bad if I sleep and he is busy at work and I have no child today either! Was going to iron/hoover or polish and never did it and never went shopping alone. Oh well, have potentially 4 more thursdays without DD and no other baby so will make use of them next time!
myjob you could have popped round here whilst I was sleeping and done some of my housework, I would have repayed the favour

ajm200 · 18/09/2008 17:46

Just received this tip for healing pads from my hypnobabies group.. thought I should share it.

"In early labor steep "comfrey" let it get good and strong, then pour some over pads along with witch hazel (the witch hazel aides in keeping them from freezing solid) and put them in the freezer. Comfrey has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. You can also take what is left over and put it n a peri bottle to use for rinsing at each bathroom run."

I spent a fortune last time on one of those gel coolpacks. It wasn't as good as witch hazel pads..

star6 · 18/09/2008 19:08

just got back from my appointment. They said to "take it easy" at work. the doctor I saw was new to the practice (and I think new - she took over for the other young, incompetent one that I used to see). She didn't know where to write in my notes or where to find anything, I had to show her. She had help from another doctor (a man) during my visit.

She measured me at 33cm. I'm 36+4! I thought we were past this "growth problem".
She wasn't concerned. Heartbeat was 140.. is that normal??

My iron is still very low. She said it's likely I will need a blood transfusion during or after labour - she totally freaked me out about that.
She also pushed VERY HARD down where his head is... is that normal to do? That really hurt!
Feel like a train wreck.

ajm200 · 18/09/2008 19:32

Star, Your CD is in the post.

Put the measurement down to her inexperience and hopefully baby has dropped down a bit.

Some of them do forget that the baby is inside a real person with nerves who can feel pain.. Wait and see what your midwife says at your next appt. The GP is not a specialist and may just be repeating what she's read in a book. MWs do this all the time.

My GP has even called the MW in once or twice to check stuff as he admits it is not his specialty. He's a brilliant GP though

Ekka · 18/09/2008 19:32

Star don't know about measurements (my mw never tells me what I'm measuring just that its 'ok'!!! I seem to remember reading somewhere that when baby's head starts to engage the measurements will become less of an accurate reading? Don't quote me on that one though.... But a heartbeat of 140 sounds fine: 130-150 is apparently the normal range for baby I think, mine measured between 130 and 140 yesterday when I went in for my appt and its always been in that sort of range.... They do push incredibly hard where the baby's head is - hurts like mad, but dd survived so I presume that it does them no harm (dh always touches the bump really carefully, which makes me laugh after the rough treatment the mws give it!)

Can't really give you any advice about blood transfusions - a couple of my ante-natal group had them after labour, but I never found out the details. I'm sure someone else on this thread can help you there though!

Sounds like you need to put up your feet and have a good rest and some pampering tonight, it sounds as if you've had a stressful day....

Oh, congrats to loulou and twinkly on the babies (hope I got that right - I'm getting so confused at the moment with dh & dd running round here like mad people to work off some of her energy before bedtime).

star6 · 18/09/2008 19:52

Thanks Ekka and ajm I feel better about that - maybe it has dropped, that makes sense!!
Good to hear that mws are "rough" with the baby too! I'm glad it wasnt her just not knowing what to do. Just imagined baby's brain as she pushed down. But I guess there's lots of tissue and fluid...etc. to protect it.
Also good to hear that others have blood transfusions. So it's somewhat "normal" to have one, then?

sambrads · 18/09/2008 20:16

evening ladies eveythings seems to have stopped here so now i will be just waiting around as usual!!!

now i feel like i am going to go over oh i dont know how i feel just really pissed off at the moment sorry

star please rest honey and dont stress about the baby the heart rate is perfect

feeling o depressed tonight just dont know whats happening wish she would just come instead of having these pains and then nothing !!
think i am putting myself under to much pressure for next week if im honest .

its ds birthday on thursday then i have organised a party for him on the saturday with 30 guests and a bouncy castle the whole works .
part of me is thinking if the baby comes now then i will be ok but if she comes next week what do i do??

star6 · 18/09/2008 20:20

Sambrads - do you have relatives or friends that you can have "on call" to take over duties for DS's birthday party in case the baby comes then?
I'm sure your DS would find the new baby sister a wonderful birthday surprise!! How old is he?

rach010 · 18/09/2008 20:56

Evening ladies,

things are moving fast on here.

Well doneloulou and twinkly, glad all is well.

Nothing much to report here, think baby is still breech, keep crawling on all fours but doesn't seem to be working, least i've got clean floors!!!

SmudgeyDoodle · 18/09/2008 20:56

Congratulations Twinklytoes. It sounds a hard experience and hope that you have Samuel home soon. Thanks for cake the bakers. I made lots last time but I'm too lazy this time. I havne't even got round to housework and ironing etc for the last few days and DS has been watching a lot of TV. Lots of people say that they think LO is a girl but we still don't have any names.
Star - glad you got an appointment and got yourself checked out. I think MW can be really rough and I think it probably hurts you more than LO so don't worry. Hope you sleep well tonight and make sure you eat breakfast or take something with you to school tomorrow. We're off away again tomorrow to the wedding so hope not too much happens this weekend for us all - it's still Sep girlies!!!

Lozza70 · 18/09/2008 21:17

Evening everyone! Congrats Twinklytoes and I hope Samuel is home with you soon.

Last day at work tomorrow and then induction on Monday so there go my plans for 2 weeks of feet up chilling out Even worse there goes DH's plans for me to turn into a domestic, baking goddess pre baby arrival Re-packing my hospital bag and finishing organising all the baby things.

Aubergenie the induction is linked to my liver function which is worsening in addition to rising blood pressure but to be honest I think the hospital midwife telling me I needed a blood transfusion by mistake may have contributed to the rise in blood pressure Anyway doing all we can to affect a natural induction

bigmouthstrikesagain · 18/09/2008 21:37

Good evening - I haven't posted for ages but have ben trying to keep up with thread. So congratulations loulou and Twinkly - who will be next Lozza?

I have had my homebirth booking in visit and the MW kit is here, I am 'allowed' to give birth at home from next Thurs (37 weeks) - the birth pool is on stand-by and I will request a pethidine prescription from gp next week. Baby is in OP (back to back) position so i nee to get bouncing on my birthing ball - ds and dd were back to back as well so I know it hurts. But I will try and get this one to turn - dd keeps climbing on my back for horsey rides when I get on all fours though!

emkay · 18/09/2008 21:59

Hello all
Lots of congratulations to loulou and twinklytoes - I'm sure the number of babies will take a big jump up in the next couple of weeks.
Mr Braxton Hicks has been very active here - totally unnerving because I don't remember having them at all with DD so it feels just the same as how it did when I went into labour with her!
The midwife did say that rubbing my abdomen was not a good idea as that could stimulate them... apparently if a woman's contractions slow down in labour they massage the abdomen to get them going again so I'll leave off the comforting tummy rubs then!
Finished work on Tuesday so hoping for a bit of time before baby comes. DD came at 38 weeks so I'm not counting on it! Phoned up the TENS hire people to get them to send my machine immediately - it's only one day earlier than they would have sent it anyway, but makes me feel better!
GWTMH - sorry to hear you had a cold and cold sore... I've got one too and they're such a pain. Had one just before giving birth last time so I couldn't kiss my new baby for six days! Really hoping that doesn't happen again. I'm probably the only person who sees the arrival of a cold sore in late pregnancy as a sign of imminent birth!

star6 · 19/09/2008 06:55

Good Morning everyone,
I hope everyone had a restful night. I'm feeling much more relaxed this morning after a good sleep. Still tired though! But I don't think that will ever go away now, from what I hear about being a parent...

1sttimer80 · 19/09/2008 08:45

Hi all,

Congrats on the new arrivals! just popping in to say hello!

Going to see peaditrician today to talk about baby's dilated kidneys. They want to discuss inducing me if I go over 40 weeks as well, so we'll see. If they decide to induce after 40 weeks then they'll do a sweep on wednesday . Can't believe 2 weeks to go!!!

It's my birthday today and feeling a bit under the weather since yesterday. Didn't sleep at all... want to go back to bed , but thinking if I get the housework done then I can go to the appointment and then relax for the rest of the day!

ajm200 · 19/09/2008 08:51

Happy Birthday 1sttimer Hope your appt goes well, you feel a bit better later and get to pamper yourself.

belgo · 19/09/2008 08:52

1sttimer - what is the problem with your baby's kidneys? On my last scan they told me my baby also has some dilation in the kidneys, and that the baby will need a scan at age three days. But they didn't seem that concerned.

belgo · 19/09/2008 08:53

and happy birthday

07mumstheword · 19/09/2008 08:55

Happy birthday 1sttimer hope you have a lovely day and the appointment goes well. Don't over do the housework you are not allowed to on your birthday!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/09/2008 08:57

Happy Birthday 1sttimer.

OP posts:
ajm200 · 19/09/2008 08:58

Hope everyone has a good night.

I got a massive energy rush at about 10pm last night, used it to sort out hubbies dumping ground our understairs cupboard and finish crocheting a baby blanket. Is it just my DH that can't throw anything out? Found ancient mobile phones like bricks, empty boxes and tat from years ago. Didn't make it to bed until 2am and even then I couldn't sleep. Shame the energy has deserted me this am and I'm dead on my feet... off to playgroup to let DS wear himself out so hopefully he'll nap later.. ttfn

Aubergenie · 19/09/2008 09:19

That sounds suspiciously like nesting to me ajm. Doesn?t that usually mean that you don?t have long to go?? Thanks for the healing pads tip by the way. I?m going to try that. Any idea where I can buy comfrey and what form it comes in? I?ll ask in the health food shop today.

Happy Birthday 1sttimer! Hope you manage to have a rest.

Sorry to hear about your liver function Lozza. I went through all that and they were talking about induction, but things seems to be sorting themselves out now. It was horrible though, and I?m sure that all the anxiety surrounding it all contributed to my blood pressure going up too. Funnily enough, the day they told me that my bloods we coming back to normal my BP was fine? They?re still talking about possibly inducing me at 40 weeks despite things seeming to be OK again so I?m necking evening primrose oil like there?s no tomorrow, just in case. Good luck!

Have a good day everybody!
