Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

Lozza70 · 16/09/2008 16:47

Congrats Loulou on your new arrival, so exciting and good luck to Ksal

I had a blood test last week as I have been suffering from itchy hands and feet and the hospital called me at work today and asked me to come in this afternoon. Unfortunately there is a problem with my liver function and my blood pressure is starting to rise so I have to go to the hospital every 2 days for a blood pressure check and to monitor the baby. The consultant said they will probably induce me the end of next week or possibly the following week depending on blood pressure etc.

So need advice on ripening cervix pretty quickly. I would imagine I would need to drink gallons of raspberry leaf tea and have lots of sex but any other pointers??

ajm200 · 16/09/2008 16:51

Take lots of Evening primrose oil. 2 or 3 capsules orally and if you feel brave enough you can insert on vaginally at night too. Check out LouLou's thread on the same subject from about a week ago.

sparklesandnowinefor6weeks · 16/09/2008 16:53

she must be a really good friend ajm, not sure how i'd feel having one of my mates seeing me in the undignified state of labour!! Great to have good support from her, your lucky

ajm200 · 16/09/2008 17:05

She was one of the MWs that took part in my induction and labour last time so its a bit late to worry about it. I met her again at a toddler group and we became friends.

perkypopsy · 16/09/2008 17:13

oooh so exciting! babies popping out all over the place! 12 days and counting here - though as is number one am telling myself will take a bit longer to cook.

CONGRATS Loulou yayayayayay can't wait to be in your position - keep popping into the nursery for a little sit and look at all the lush things minipops has waiting for him/her

Friday was last day at work - not a day too soon - if i did it again and money wasn't an issue i'd defo havew more time off - feel like I don't know how to chill anymore...

however have had hair done and had my wax so all systems go here - just have to sit back an wait for the action YIKES

ronny hope you are feeling better?

p.s. less stories about birth please - is scaring me to death - am going to be such a wuss!

star6 · 16/09/2008 17:29

thought I had 36 week check today... good thing I called to confirm... it's tomorrow. tomorrow is wednesday, not today!
So nervous!
Will they be able to tell me if I'm likely to hold on for a few weeks or go into labour soon?

ajm200 · 16/09/2008 17:45

I don't think they can tell. My MW friend is trying to convince me that baby will be early but only because she wants it to be.

As this is your first, you are more likely to go overdue than deliver early.

star6 · 16/09/2008 17:50

Thanks ajm - I'm loving you right now!!
Don't worry about that track - can I get it on itunes? I can just get it there. I don't want you doing anything extra at 4cm dilated!! REST!

ajm200 · 16/09/2008 18:04

Star - just for you. Full of medical jargon so must have some basis in fact

Why hasn?t my baby come yet?

?For primiparas (first child), the median duration of gestation from assumed ovulation to delivery was 274 days, significantly longer than the predicted 266 days. For multiparas (more than one child), the median duration of pregnancy was 269 days, also significantly longer than the prediction. Moreover, the median length of pregnancy in primiparas proved to be significantly longer than that for multiparas?

ajm200 · 16/09/2008 18:06

Star - It's called the secret garden. From Meditainment. I got it two years ago when expecting DS with high BP. I've burnt the CD just need to get it to the post. Worst case will be Friday when I take DS to playgroup again as that is when I'll have the car next.

rowanmac · 16/09/2008 19:37

Wow its all very real now with new babies and people heading off for induction. Well done loulou for avoiding a section.

On the pram front I was whinging about mountain buggy and taking 5 months to send me some wheels. Emailed head office in NZ last night about poor UK service. Mysteriously got a call from MBUK today, wheels are in post should arrive tomorrow Oh and theres no charge as its taken so long. Funny that . Very pleased though.

After spending the whole of last pregnancy anxious about being too big I'm now worried I'm too small measuring 33cm at 35 weeks. i assume that means this one won't be early.

Could somebody explain how a 3 yr old who fell asleep into his spaghetti at 5.30pm can be bouncing on his bed at 7.30pm. Has me wrapped round little finger though. Woke at 630am so i got into bed with him, he stroked my face, put his arms round my neck and said 'my mummy' snuggled in and went back to sleep.

star6 · 16/09/2008 19:51

awwwwww rowanmac!!! I can't wait to be a mummy now!! Or, as we say, "mommy"... ha ha, "mummy" still triggers the bandage wrapped body in a tomb image in my mind! lol

hedgepig · 16/09/2008 20:33

rowanmac I was the same with measurement at my 36 week check. I have been spot on all the way through but was measuring 35cm last wee, the mw didn't mention a thing so I assume it isn't a problem. Your LO sounds so cute, I'm with Star awwwwww

I have a question for those who have given birth before. This is my second pg but I didn't labour last time. I'm 37 weeks now and getting what I think are Braxton hicks, but they are very strong, don't stop if I walk about and pretty long (no pattern) and they are making me need to go for a wee (sorry if TMI) are these more like real contractions or are they BH's????

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/09/2008 20:47

General rule hedgepig is that if you need to ask then they are BHs!

pistachio - list already adapted - just waiting for some more births to put on it .

Lozza - sorry to hear that we were right about liver, but great that it's been picked up. According to the induction leaflet that I was given yesterday, you need raspberry leaf, nipple stimulation, sex, wanking (clitoral stimulation) and gentle walking. MIL was reading the leaflet but only mentioned the tea and walks .

Lozza70 · 16/09/2008 20:51

CSWS lol at your MIL censoring the info in the leaflet! Will try some of the tips when not scratching hands and feet

hedgepig · 16/09/2008 21:14

thanks CSWS we are still decorating, so I would much prefer the are BH's . I don't remember getting them as much last time.

07mumstheword · 16/09/2008 21:16

Hedgepig It does sound like BH. I'm getting them a few times a day but no pattern. They've even brought a tear to my eye they've been so strong. It makes me feel like I can't move, belly goes hard and feels like I really really need to pee. Only lasts for a few minutes then back to normal. This is just practice contractions I'm not looking forward to the real thing again

4andnotout · 16/09/2008 21:30

Hiya everyone thanks for all the well wishes Dp is still in hospital but might be home tommorow evening after his stress test, keeping my fingers crossed! Have my 24 week midwife appointment tommorow, i nearly missed my blood test today as i had messed up the times but luckily i literally live next door to the surgery so i rounded up all the kids and dived next door!

4andnotout · 16/09/2008 21:31

Obviously it's my 34 week appointment

annwoo · 17/09/2008 06:14

ksal - all the best, hope your induction goes well.

4andnotout - have wondered where you were. Hope your dp is ok and allowed to come home today. You have alot on your plate - do you have much support?

star6 · 17/09/2008 07:56

Ksal best wishes to you!!! I hope all goes well
Wow, I know I've said this before and it sounds ridiculous, but I can't believe I'm going to have a BABY. Any first timers on our thread feeling the same way... like, you just can't really imagine it? Even though the LO is squirming about inside all the time and constantly reminding you s/he's there? I just can't picture it. But I really want to see him and meet him and hold him... it will be real soon enough

jenwa · 17/09/2008 08:23

Ksal good luck today, hope all goes well.

ajm200 · 17/09/2008 08:28

Wow - things are getting closer now aren't they. Good luck ksal. My little bout of BHs yesterday definately weren't the real thing as I haven't had anymore but they were strong as my whole bump feels tender this morning and it seems to be a magnet for DS to climb on - ouch! For those of you who are also getting strong/painful BHs I've been told to drink lots and lots of water make all day long as it makes the BHs easier and more managable..

Had a really restful night as I made DH get up to DS whenever he cried so although I didn't get loads of sleep, I did get to stay in bed for most of the night and spent a lot of time listening to my hypnobabies stuff so feel fairly relaxed today. Got a really busy day though as I want to clean the whole house and get the ironing mountian cleared ready for the MWs visit on Saturday.
