Thought we'd go with twinklytoes suggestion since she's gone and got herself admitted to hospital in a desperate bid for attention .

Have left everyone on the stats for now, but will do another cull of deserters soon....

BUT, I will just DIE if my water breaks in my classroom in front of my kids!!!!! HA! My best friend is organizing a baby shower for me on 4th October... I'll be 39 weeks. If my water breaks there, I'll also be horrified!
I may start walking around with a bin bag up to my waist

hey ladies need a wee bit of advice

i just went to the loo and noticed that i have found a thick mucus looks like you have just blown your nose (sorry if to much info but i need to explain details) what is it??
is it a show???

of course i had to investigate and i felt my cervix and it is soft and seems to be a bit open
do you think the internal i got on monday night has done something???
oh god i dont know what happening!!

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 13:31

Sounds like your show.. It is like a ball of snot, sometimes clear, sometimes with blood in it. It might have all come away or may continue over the next few days/weeks.

Labour might start really soon.. or could hold out for another few weeks. I had a show with DS and when into labour a few hours later. Had a show and labour with this one at 29 weeks.

How exciting..

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/09/2008 13:39

Sambrads - after you've had a baby your cervix is apparently open a bit anyway, so as this is your second I wouldn't read too much into that.
Agree it's most likely a bit of your mucus plug, but again doesn't mean that much, as can come away in bits for weeks before labour.
Still have a feeling you're close though - are you all ready?!

Star - don't worry too much about waters. They only break pre-labour in around 10% of women, so chances are that you'll be tucked up in a delivery suite before they do. Mine had to be broken when I was just about fully dilated last time.

Happy birthday for tomorrow myjob .

sambrads · 12/09/2008 13:45

there is no blood in it so not sure if it is or not there is no way it is discharge as its not white or clear oh im so confused what the hell is it???

ajm200 i dont feel any pain at all but have noticed my bump has really dropped last night i was also taking loads of BH but they were not painful just the tightness was taking my breath away .

cant believe i even checked myself its not like i could phone the mw and say oh i noticed my cervix is soft and opening and she will be like what the hell are you doing up there!!!

has any of you checked???

the doc says your cervix is normally so far back and defo cant be reached by the pregnant women so why can i feel ine???

WheresTheAuPair · 12/09/2008 13:52

long fingers?

oo how exciting tho

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 13:57

Sambrads, I'd say you've had a show. It really isn't anything to worry about but make sure your bag is packed just in case. if you do go into labour, the last thing you need is to be rushing around packing your bags.

My cervix is short, soft and 2cm dilated and has been since 29 weeks but I'm not too concerned. I haven't checked for fear of introducing an infection but could reach it last time with no trouble. It is harder to reach when babies head is fully engaged as you've got to reach past what feels like half a galla melon. With 2nd babies the cervix can start changing quite early and may be softer than before anyway as cantsleep mentioned. From the list at the start of the thread it looks like you are around the 37 week mark so baby is full term and could come anytime in the next 5 weeks. Just relax and go with the flow.. baby knows when she needs to come out..

Still think its exciting though

sambrads · 12/09/2008 13:57

not even wherestheahpair but that would be a good explanation!!!

WheresTheAuPair · 12/09/2008 14:06

LOl I can barely reach my bikini line- blind shaving is about my limit down there. I salute you ladies that know such technical practicalities!

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 14:37

Just had a great morning at my son's playgroup. DS 21months and his best friend who is 2.5 played together for two hours and were inseperable so i got to sit down for a whole 45 mins and was supplied hot tea and biscuits - such luxury.

It seems my boobs are starting to fill and my mummy hormones are in overdrive as I cuddled my friends newborn DD who is like the most perfect little doll and my boobs leaked. Been going for about 18 months and all the mums are so lovely so everyone just thought it was funny and I wasn't too embarrassed. Guess I'll be getting the lilypadz out later.

Can't believe that in just a few weeks, I'll be cuddling my own DD. Can't wait!

ronshar · 12/09/2008 17:01

My computer has been broken all week. I have missed out on loads.

Sambrads. It does sound like a show but I wouldnt worry too much. It doesnt automatically mean you will go into labour straight away. As this isnt your first baby your body is more ready for the practicalities of labour. Alot of women never notice their show because it comes away gradually.
Good luck lady you could have your baby very soon. I do envy you. I have another 4 weeks.

I have lost lots of very sticky mucus since last week, along with lots of pains the same as you. When I saw the midwife on Tuesday she said that my baby is now fixed in my pelvis and 3/5 engaged. Which explains the pains etc.
She also said lots of women get alot of extra discharge so much so they need to wear panty liners. That conversation was fun I can tell you. No dignity as a pregnant lady is there!!!

Leaky boobs, brilliant get used to that

I am nearly ready to go. Need to finish cleaning out the house. I think we will be moving house in November! Nothing like pressure is there?

star6 · 12/09/2008 18:16

I'm feeling a lot more exhausted than I should this evening... not sure what is going on. I think iron levels may be dropping again? Last hb was around 8, up from 6 the previous week... but feeling lower now. Would you go and get another blood test?
Low iron wouldn't cause me to go into labour early, would it?
I NEED the time until 40 weeks (36 weeks on sunday). scared now - it's real. its coming. we're having a baby!! I know I know you've all known this for a long time, but it's crazy!!
One of the parents of the kids in my class today gave me 4 gro bags (two for 0-6, two for 6-18 months). I was so happy because dh and I always look at these, but they just seem expensive for one of them. I forgot we would get gifts!! She also gave me a bunch of new bottles because her son won't take them. Perfect for my expressed milk when I return to work!
AH I'm having a BABY!

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 18:30

Star, low iron shouldn't make you go into labour. It is a problem if you lose too much blood in labour though as your iron reserves are used up. Get yourself checked out at your next appt if you are worried, but it might be too late to do anything about it now.

You'd probably feel better if you got more sleep. I'm amazed to see you on here in the early hours knowing you've got work the next day. I don't know where you get such stamina from I'd never have managed that with either pregnancy.

What a lovely gift, that has saved you a fortune.

star6 · 12/09/2008 18:32

I try to sleep... but I just wake up SO early... then I'm exhausted later... then try to take a nap and can't go to sleep!!
It's never ending

I'm sure that's how it is for everyone, though. I only get through the day because I love my job and I love the kids in my class... they really keep me going. I ADORE them and enjoy every moment of my time with them... it's not stamina, trust me!!

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 18:37

I still admire the fact that you are still at work with little ones on so little sleep. I got 3 hours last night, have one under 2 to look after and was seriously lacking in patience by his naptime today.

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 18:40

I have a deep breathing/relaxation track that I use to drop off to sleep when the heartburn lets me. Its good practice for the birth and really does help me to feel sleepy. I use it on my IPOD in the middle of the night. It was free so I could send it to you to see if it helps...

star6 · 12/09/2008 20:16

That sounds GREAT ajm200!! is it a link that i can just download to my ipod?
The difference here is... .I see those little ones from 8.30am-3.30pm... not NEARLY as much energy and work as having a full time toddler 24/7. Those of you on number 2 with a toddler around are the ones to truly be admired! Believe me if I had a toddler running around constantly to look after, I would probably not have the energy to go into work and teach little ones all day, too.

emkay · 12/09/2008 21:21

Sounds like lots of us are convinced we're going to go into labour early or at least very soon! I've been totally unnerved by my braxton hicks this week - feelings very similar to when I went into labour with DD and I don't remember getting any BH with her. Like someone else said, just want to make it to 37 weeks (next week!) so I can go to the birth centre.

I have a toddler and I'm a primary teacher so I can honestly say star that you are doing very well! I'm lucky to be on 'computer leave' for my last couple of weeks at work - finish next week - so work is more restful than home, but teaching is a seriously hard physical labour occupation! If you want your whole 40 weeks, keep taking it as easy as you can. Even if you can't sleep, tell yourself that resting with eyes closed is still good for your body and maybe you will drop off... the skill of napping will come in dead useful once the baby is here!

jenwa · 12/09/2008 21:49

I felt pants today.
Had a headache and felt quite woozy. Lay on bed with DD after work and felt ratty with her as started getting tummy pain and feeling sick too. DH came home and I fell asleep until now but now know I wont be ale to get back to sleep til later! Will try though as sure DD will be awake nice and early! Feel better now though, just had a cheese roll and some crisps and drinking a cherry berry drink (from tescos) and it takes like cherry drops, yumm, warm too!!!

Star I need my iron checked too, meant to have it 2 weeks ago again but keep forgetting, It should be better though but think some days feel worse than others and YOU do wake up very early!!!!

pepperrabbit · 12/09/2008 22:12

evening all, pretty pants here too as suddenly have developed a really heavy cold, can't go to bed yet as have to do a blood test at 10.30.
Star, I don't know how you do it. I'm exhausted after walking DS1 to school and back twice today for 2 days in a row.... next week he has to go all 5 days, I'll be in bits! Also DS2 is bored out of his mind without DS1 to play with so he's quite hard work too (but then he is only 2 1/2 so they're quite hard work anyway).
On an aside, I'm a girl who gets through a lot of pantyliners when PG and DS1 actually asked me the other day "why do you wear stickers in your pants Mummy?" (there's no privacy in our house - even the cat was in the bathroom this morning)
I didn't really have an answer.. but as real stickers are his most favourite things, I do worry he'll share mummy's "stickers" story with the whole class
jenwa hope you feel better soon.

I like to spread a little joy CSWS!

ajm200 · 12/09/2008 22:53

Have had backache all evening so been rocking on my birthing ball, backache still there but I've also had an odd turn, dizzy and sick. Whole bump feels tender.. very odd. Had two bloody shows over the past 3 hours, it seems to be the day for it with Oct babies. Still got 5 weeks to go so want baby to stay put for another 2 at least.
Hubby is more concerned that a baby arriving this month messes up his work plans... nothing like getting your priorities right!

Maybe bouncing and rocking on a birthing ball would help those of you trying to get babies moving.

Star I can't find the link for it but I can mail you the file if you want it. Just drop me a mail at amandaj phillips at yahoo com.

Jenwa Hope you feel better soon.

bethoo · 12/09/2008 23:51

what a nightmare! had bad thunder and lightning whcih took out the whole garrisons electricity from 3-9pm so sat in darkness most of the evening!
am envious of those who may be having their babies early though my boss is prob glad as keeps asking if hw shukld be bringing in warm towels! yes becaue i want every fat man here looking at my fanjo!
had a week off so been nice sepending one to one with ds. bought him a little electrolux hoover which he has been happily pushing around the living room and carpet, it was that or a little folding umbrella style buggy!
hope everyone is ok tonght and no one in labour yet though some of us incl me are near to full term! it has gone so fast!
