Hello all, I usually lurk, but have decided to post for a change. Anyways, Im 32 weeks, due 4th November....this is my third and third girl, I have the name chosen, the hospital bag packed, (I do plan on a homebirth but you never know)the main items bought...pram cot etc, I have a supply of nappies in, Im so organised its making me sick .

With it being my third I feel confident enough to attempt a home birth, but the main reason really is that I was 5 hours established labour with my first, and 18 minutes with my second so Im kinda covering my own back as I don't want to be caught short...hehe, also, I really hate the stay in hospital afterwards and would love to avoid that, plus I wanna just be in my own home, I think the benefits if everything goes normally far outway the cons. I should just add, I was induced both times with my two girls, so Im guessing that may just be the case this time round, fingers crossed it isnt though.

Anyway, look forward to chatting away the next 8 weeks with you all, not long to go

Ladybuzz I took spatone towads the end of my pregnancy last time. It is much better than the tablets that turns your poo green bleurgh. Add it to fruit juice and you barely taste it.
YOU CAN EASILY PICK IT UP IN bOOTS. Oops how did that happen??

Baba is really beginning to shove now, can sometimes be quite uncomfortable, especially when dealing with DD or lifting her etc.

ooh I have a freezing tip for using freezer bags, which is all I use cos I cannot afford to furnish my freezer with tupperware. Actually 2,

Tip no 1: Tescos do good ones that seal by pinching them, IYSWIM?

Tip no 2: Use a straw to suke out all the air around meats etc, it is really hard otherwise, but has to be done or the frost will get in and ruin your food.

Mainly close the bag, bar space for the straw, put the straw close to the food, suke, keep suking as you remove the straw, seal the bag quick.
Voila! Your food looks like it has been vaccum packed.

I just make sausage type packages with things like soup, by folding the bag at the top level of the soup. Sealable bags makes this possible.

Ooh another tip, label the bags before you put the food in. Possibly an obvious thing, but it took me a while to remember.

Aren't I the freezer bag freezing queen!!

lauraw78 · 04/09/2008 17:23

Sorry...lol, I didn't mean to post that again, Im getting myself all muddled up =)

Yeah, I think thats why I have it all together, best to be prepared I suppose, plus, if I was to leave it to my better half we would have serious problems ;-)

twinklingfairy · 04/09/2008 17:27

Oops forgot to say hello to sharon an now to laura

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 17:57

hellow newbies

Chocorange by far and away (trust me on this one) the best pressie you can buy DH for his birthday, is a weekend away!!! You will really appreciate the time together to sleep, eat out with the interuption if kids and browsae shops without having to keep your eye on the time for the next feed/nappy change etc!!

Alternatively, may I suggest a slap up meal at a top London restaurant? It's going to be a LONG time before oyu get the chancve to do that!!!

Doing kids tea, catch up properly later

DM x

Welcome Lauraw78. Wow, your post could have been written by me almost, except I am expecting my 3rd baby boy, lol! I too am planning a homebirth to cover my own back after a fast (but not as fast as yours)labour/delivery with ds2. I also have childcare issues and a dh who is a sales rep so could be anywhere when the time comes, so it seems easier to prepare myself for birth at home. Plus I think it will be lovely.

Ladybuzz I am using spatone right now, but think I may need to be taking floradix as well as still feel ropey some days. Spatone is currently on offer in boots, 3 for 2 . I absolutely do not get on with iron sulphate, it makes me sooooooo ill it actually makes things worse, so didn't even bother picking up the prescription this time.

While we are asking for advice about gifts, it's my wedding anniversary next at the end of next week, 7 years, which is copper I believe. Any ideas for a cheapish gift? I am tempted to just give him the tub of coppers the boys and I have been saving for the penny arcaded, lol! I am actually thinking a nice take away would be good.

sparkletoes · 04/09/2008 18:14

Hi all!

Glad you made it over here Sharon now the trick is to keep up!! I had pooter issues this pm and seem to have missed loads since last night!

Welcome also lauraw78, IMO Laura is a lovely name! (yes for same reason as Twinkling liking Miriam... }. I think a hb would be lovely but am only on number 2 and not brave enough to try it!

Oblamov I tried loads of anti-sickness during my HG phase.. as far as I can see they are all variations of stemetil but in all honesty none of them truly worked . I developed my own coping strategy instead based on eating what I could and hoping I would absorb enough nutrition before I inevitably chucked it all up again! The tablets I found most effective (or least useless!) in the end was called Prochlorperazine but honestly my sucking endless supplies of chewy sweets/ice lollies theory helped me most...

Hope you will find what works for you, what are your symptoms? Are you keeping anything down? Are you able to eat anything? Do you have constant nausea or only at certain times. I researched this loads on the internet (thru sheer desperation) and in the end my acceptance of it all and just trying to get through it as above worked best (altho I accept it could have been pure coincidence). Sorry for long post, hugs I know it is horrible.

Roca · 04/09/2008 18:40

hello all - you talk too much and I have now spent too long away from my work trying to catch up so now have no time to chat as I best get back to my work! Am in the office til 8 ish (boo) but at least it means I won't have to work when I get home as am only in the office today and work in evenings from home on other days. Plus dh will have cooked dinner (yay)

Hello all!

Hi Laura and Sharon

quick q - dh has the opportunity to go to America in Jan (paid)with his work for 5 days, baby will be 8 weeks-ish. Do you think I will be o.k? Don't really know anyone here you see. would never insist that dh doesn't go. But prospect of being alone is a leeetle daunting...

Hi Hana

I'll be starting antenatal classes in a couple of weeks and will defo check out mum and toddler groups - there is a church nearby that might do something. Will keep eyes peeled for other groups. Hopefully we will have some kind of routine by then. I think it's fear of the unknown!! Thanks for the ideas

When we have had our babies can we go somewhere else or do we finish chatting forever?

barbareebaa · 04/09/2008 19:56

ooo - Laura - you could be having your lo next month then! Wow! That makes it all a bit soon! and V. exciting

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 19:59

barbareebaa I second Hana, if you can start antenatal classes soonish (we did NCT 5 years ago and still regularily see 4 couples plus numerous kids)it would really help. however, I found the first 12 weeks hard as the lack of sleep is torture....before I got my boys in a routine (DS1 at 10weeks and DS2 straight away) I was BF literally all day and night long......the trick is to get the baby to take a full feed so they are taking the hind milk as well as the foremilk. My BF counillor explained it as the skimmed foremilk and the rich full fat hind which fills the baby up for longer......

If you can get that sorted pretty quickly then you should be fine as a good routine means you and baby get 4 hours sleep rather than cat napping here and there.......

The difference between me "freestyling" and a routine was amazing.......I knownot everyone believes in routine but I can't praise it enough

ALso it is worht looking into toddler groups NOW as the good ones have long waiting lists.........

Whereabouts are you? Near any other ladies on our thread???

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 20:00

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 20:02

barbareebaa · 04/09/2008 20:08

I think I am going to going to have to take myself in hand and try to find some groups... It's a bit scary - am a bit quiet and shy but I think i will have to get over that

barbareebaa · 04/09/2008 20:11

Crikey - I'm guessing you would have to get tights and keep whipping them down for the nappy change! Maybe they do ones with poppers like babygros?

PInkyminkyohnooo · 04/09/2008 20:12

Baby massage group is a very popular fisrt group around here- run by the HV and a fab way of meeting other mums, especially first time mums. Ours was run at the local clinic.

DM you can do the nappy without taking tights off, but it can get messy with BF poo and girls have all sorts of fiddly crevices.. honestly, boys are soo much easier to clean up!

You can get baby legs which are fabbo, most nappy sites sell them, and you can knit them yourself (if you are not me- I am crap at knitting).

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 20:14

Babylegs??!!! What the devil are they???????????????????????????????

Dozymare · 04/09/2008 20:15

barbaree - where do you live??? Bab massage and toddler groups are by far the best way - plus everyone there would have been a first time mum at some stage...most of us are friendly!!!!!!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 04/09/2008 20:15

Oh and Hana- baby legs are great for keeping slinged babies legs warm!
