Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

FGS I am at all the 'sharing' BF stories. Sorry but if anyone did that to my baby I would want to scratch their eyes out! Never heard the likes, that is well overstepping the line in my opinion.

Ah that is one good thing about 2 year olds Ceebs, they never remember the bad times and hold them against you. Sure that will come later but at least by then we should be able to reason with them more... (well that is the theory!). My DH said DS did exact same thing with car seat today, sat on seat next to it. Flaming independant streaks!

That is great you got a TENS cricri, glad it seems to help you, know you are supposed to give them a go beforehand so now is prob ideal time esp if you have pain! Am tempted to hire one myself, my Dad has one but it won't be one suitable for birth I am sure..

have been catching up, and was going to pop off to bed, but just wanted to say I hope you start to feel better sparkletoes; sounds like a worrying few days. Take the time off if the GP has signed you off and tell the OH witch where to get off. She should know that the law is on your side where pregnancy related absences and illnesses are concerned (if you were so inclined you would have grounds for leaving and then claiming constructive dismissal). Do you have a line manager you can take it up with?

Anyway, I hope you are feeling better, but do take as much time as you need.

Hi to everyone else, I'll catch up properly tomorrow

I've overdone things a little bit today. I shifted furniture around all morning, built up the toddler bed we were given for DD, then went to Mothercare and wandered around the shops for a few hours before collecting DS from school, moving more furniture, doing a massive tidy up, moving yet more furniture (same furniture, just several times. I think it's where I want it now, lol). I sat down for half an hour and when I tried to get up my pelvis is sooooooo sore and has siezed up. I'm also full of a stinking cold so am off to bed shortly.

twinklingfairy · 10/09/2008 21:53

Oh daisy you sound just like me.
You will regret it in the morning, but I bet it felt great to get so much done in a day!

Watching 'Lost In Austen' then I too will take to my bed. Just can't seem to care about Desperate Housewives anymore, too nonsensical.

sparkletoes · 10/09/2008 21:59

Thanks so much Daisy - and everyone else I have really appreciated the support today. Kind ironic that the OH fanjo is brought in to try and prevent further absences when it sounds very like she was a contributing factor in mine! Luckily after meeting the witch my line mgr agreed with me but she has no power in these cases and will still have to give me a grilling on my RTW next week.

However I have been told they are only allowed to ask you how you feel now you have come back and not a day by account of when you were off...?!

Sounds like all that furniture moving has disturbed your pelvis - I did exact same thing with DS! It did eventually go away...

cricri · 10/09/2008 22:02

Sparkletoes My TENS machine isn't specifically for labour so I'm hoping it's going to be OK It's a Boots one a friend has lent it to me - she did buy it for labour but didn't get around to working out how the machine operated beforehand so never used it. The instruction manual shows positions for the pads for various types of pain but not for labour, although I know the pads go on your back during labour. You've got me thinking now - anybody know if the TENS machines used for labour are any different?? I'll check with my NCT teacher too as she has some to loan out if it turns out this one is no good.
Daisy sounds as though you've had a very busy day! Hope you feel better tomorrow and can rest up.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/09/2008 22:05

I'm now eyeing up the walls and thinking they need to be repainted. We will have DD in one corner of the room and virgil in the opposite, so I was going to do DD two girly colours, and virgil two boyly colours...so there will be a pink wall and a turquoise wall for DD and a blue wall and a yellow wall for virgil. does that sound nuts? I'm sure DH will put it down to my hormones, but I thought it was a good compromise and it'll be nice and cheerful. Although it's a small room (9ft x 7ft) so it might end up looking a bit crazy!

sparkletoes · 10/09/2008 22:10

Cricri think it something to do with the level/frequency being adjustable in the labour ones... Is it adjustable in yours?

twinklingfairy · 10/09/2008 22:17

I did read, at the bottom of the screen, when they were advertising the tens machine on telly, that those ones were not recommended for use during labour.
Cos they were selling them for only a tenner, I thought, ooh might get one, then I read the guff and decided against.
I don't know which one you have cricri but I would prob take it to my MW and get her to tell me, if I were you, that way you will know and can borrow one if needs be.

Is it any good though?
I was afraid that it would ease the pain, up to a point, then you would just have to remove it and wammo, major pain would hit cos you no longer had the cushion?
I had a bath when in labour with DD and I know that when I got out it was defo more intense, but maybe that was timing?
I still can't decide if such things help or not because maybe you are better to be fully aware of it all so that you can deal with it in a controlled manner. ie I am a control freak and want to feel the pain so I know how much it hurts.
Does that many any sense!

Also, to first time mummy's, I really didn't find it all that painful, surprisingly, which is why I would consider taking nothing so that I truly know what is going on with my body.
That's if I don't get pushed into a CS, which I desperately want to avoid. So that says something in itself.
Oh dear, Twinkling is rambling again!

twinklingfairy · 10/09/2008 22:23

IMPO that sounds a bit wild daisy but it would depend on the tones.
How about the room is mainly one colour but you have a pink rectangle that spreads out from one corner (so half on one, half on the other) and the same with blue in another corner. That way you get the colour sectioning but a bit tamer?
Do you see what I mean? or does that sound awful to you
Or a sort of triangle from the ceiling. Again coming from a corner large at top, pos going onto ceiling to make an offset square?

LackaDAISYcal · 10/09/2008 22:25

cricri, labour tens usually have a boost button that you can press at the peak of your contraction, where non labour ones just have a dial for increasing the buzz separately, but no boost.

The labour ones usually have a strap so you can hang them round your neck as well.

Other than that though, not sure.

sparkletoes · 10/09/2008 22:26

Hmmn Daisy in a small room that may be a bit overpowering. Or it may totally work depending on the tones you use.. If not how about a neutral colour (say yellow) on 2 opposite walls and a pink on one and a blue on another...

You'l be able to picture it all better tho! I'm just sticking my nose in as I love planning new colour schemes!

Damn I knew I'd get a double post there it took ages to send!!

Twinkling I also managed fine with just G&A so it can't have been too bad for me either. Know what you mean tho about wanting to feel it so you know just how much it hurts. Mad as that sounds when written down it makes complete sense to me!

twinklingfairy · 10/09/2008 22:35

I knew I sounded like a mad rambling lady!!
Mine took an age to upload too, I nearly caved and double posted and in fact determindly looked at another page to stop myself!

MerryMarigold · 10/09/2008 23:12

I found TENS wonderful and G & A absolutely useless. Maybe I have overused drugs in another lifetime or was possibly too far gone in labour to breathe it in properly! Cricri, the booster button is a must when contractions get stronger (at about 3-4cms!).

Lacka, could you divide the room up with toy/ book shelves/ cabinets (if it's big enough), that way giving each one a space, but using storage! I will also have the boy/ girl problem as they get older, but was just gonna go for the wall stickers and bedding since the walls are cream and can't be bothered to paint 'em.

Dozymare · 11/09/2008 08:46

morning all - not posted for a few days as caught up in the school run and toddler groups starting in the day and DH wanting some loving (no, not THAT kind!) in the evenings!

Luckily a "work" day today so will have some time to catch up. Love the chat a few days ago about marriage proposals....all lovely in their own different ways!!

I have a new, novel way to get back to sleep after waking up at 3am (either for a wee or for toddler check)...it's called "see how many "Due in November" mumsnetter's I can think of - so basically, how many MN names on out thread - I got to 21 last night!!!

Nive to see some of you posting again, I also have been wondering about Yorky did someone manage to get hold of her in the end????

Only 4 more work days for me now! Yeah Yeah Yeah

DM x

Oblomov · 11/09/2008 08:56

I wonder what Daisys DD and Ds's room will look like. I am intrigued.

Pinkali37 · 11/09/2008 09:31

Morning All,

So.. we've just done the deed (not that deed), we've sacked our employee. Why is it when you ask if they have anything to say they always say "there's nothing to say". It was easier than first expected.

I'm off to the physio this afternoon at 3.30 so am hoping she gives me some useful exercises to help my back, legs and hips.

Have a good day..

Creena · 11/09/2008 09:32

Hello everyone - you probably won't remember me as I haven't posted or even logged into MN for quite a while. Things have been quite hectic, shall we say! Apologies are in order....

a huge, big sorry to the book club ladies. I've received two books that were very kindly sent to me but sadly I haven't had the time to read them and have neglected to send them on. Very bad of me and not fair on the other book club members. I've emailed Dozy this mornning to explain and to ask where I should send the books to - original owner or the person in the list after me. I promise to rectify ASAP but needless to say, don't send any more books on to me.

Another big sorry for not catching up with you all. I haven't a chance of being able to read this thread through, never mind all of the threads that I've missed. I hope that you're all doing well though and looking forward to maternity leave and the arrival of bump. It would be great to see how you're all doing so I promise to try and keep popping in now to catch up on your news.

As I said ealier, things have been hectic here. Work was awful and SPD is back with an almighty vengeance - most days it's pretty painful to even sit at a computer for longer than 5 minutes. The travelling for work wasn't helping, especially when I found myself having to stand on crowded trains all of the time. There were times when I was actually close to tears as it hurt so much! I've now finally started leave - I have annual leave to take in the run up to when maternity leave officially starts, so hopefully I will be able to manage the SPD better and find some time to log in to see you all. We're also in the middle of house selling/moving - it's been dragging on for months now and has been a bit stressful at times. No completion date yet but we're hoping that it won't be too long. I've then got the joys of organising removals, clear outs, packing etc. Haven't had a chance to do any of this yet - just sorting out flooring for the new place has been a nightmare. It's a new build and so everywhere needs to have some kind of flooring fitted. The quotes I've been getting have been insanely high and as such, DH is dragging his feet, not that I blame him.

Well, this is a mahoooosive post from me, for which I apologise. Hope you're all ok and doing well and looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Oblomov · 11/09/2008 09:39

Creena, of course we remember you. How could we forget. Sorry to hear of difficult times. And welcome back. No more needs to be said. Jump on again, and enjoy the final part of the ride.

MerryMarigold · 11/09/2008 09:51

Hey creena, I remember you too, 'cos I liked your name. I don't remember if this is your first though. House selling/ buying - arghhhhhhhh...I am NOT but hope it all works out. A new build sounds ideal for a new baby... Well insulated, and you can pick floors now that are easily wipe-able {grin]! Hope it all works out at the right time, not too soon before the birth and not too soon after. (We moved 3 weeks after ds was born, and it was manageable though stressful - msotly because house was a wreck though).

Pinkali, I think I would say "There's nothing to say" (what could you say?) or more likely just say nothing! Glad you didn't burst into tears...

Dozy, I was up last night first time in a while and wondering about you...thought maybe you were so busy doing nursery stuff etc. My dh is madly busy at work, and working from home in the evenings so no need for any loving there and I get to MN as much as I like!

I had a very odd night. I figured out a routine to aim for when twins are about 3wks and dh is back to work (broken down by the half hour!). Then I read a book about bfeeding twins, couldn't sleep till nearly midnight. Up at 3am rsearching freezers and tumble driers. Lacka, I think I've figured out a way to make them both fit as you can get slim freezers (though not slim tumble driers), so that's seems the best option, though it will be a tight squeeze and I don't where I'm going to store my ironing board and mop anymore! Was getting worried that 'this is it' as I had a very unsettled 'adrenalin' night the night I went into labour with ds, but so far all is well...

Pinkali37 · 11/09/2008 10:07

QUESTION Does everyones babies have days when they are a bit slower than the majority of days?

MerryMarigold · 11/09/2008 10:23

Yeah, for sure, pinkali. If I am busy and more stressed, running around etc, babies get very active. If I am quiet and restful, they tend to be too.

cricri · 11/09/2008 10:35

Creena Welcome back Of course we remember you and we were worried about where you'd got to. Sorry to hear you're suffering with SPD but glad you're now off work and able to rest. Good luck with the house move (and you too Misdee!)
Thanks for the advice on TENS everybody - I think I will take the machine along to show the midwife. It has got a "burst" and "constant" function but best to get it checked out.
Pinkali I also have days when my baby moves more than others, but the opposite of MM - she's active when I'm sitting still and vice versa! The MW told me that as long as you feel some movement every day then it's fine. Get yourself checked out though if you're in any doubt. Glad everything went OK with the employee and good luck with the physio this pm.

mum2becks · 11/09/2008 10:36

morning everyone, hope everyone is feeling ok today? I have a horrible cold and sore throat today so feeling rubbish

Good to hear from you again creena I remember you as we were scan date twins! Hope the house move goes smoothly for you and is timed just right for before or after baby!!

pinkali I think everyones babies react differently to things, mine is opposite to MM's as I dont seem to notice much movement during the day as I'm busy with dd but in the evening when I relax my bump goes mad!! Have loads of movements and strange shapes sticking out which we try to guess if its arms, legs or bum

Well dd had first night in her new bedroom in her 'big girls bed' last night and slept through until she came running into our bedroom this morning shouting wee wee!! So she has figured out straight away that she can now get out but it was a better night than expected, lets hope it continues
