Ataraxis & Ann, I'm a counting nut so disregard this if you like....

Both my girls cooked for 268 days. That's counting from conception to birth. Can you try and figure your cook times to see if you are really in overcook mode?? My help make you feel better (or worse if you are truly overcooked).

To further add on they are exactly 4.5 years and 38 minutes apart....but that's not realive to Ataraxis & Ann's situation.

AnnVan · 03/09/2008 13:43

TS - difficult actually to know date of conception, as my cycles are really irregular. Also I had had a miscarriage, and only had on period between that and conceiving again, so who knows actually? Thinking about it - I might not really be overdue then

sambo303 · 03/09/2008 13:51

TS i think i'm already 272 days then but very difficult to say - does that mean i'm overcooked?

spent last night in agony due to severe hourly contractions - have decided this was due to liberal use of clary sage rubbed into tummy last night before bed - will not be trying this again.

congrats to nezzi and stillhere - lovely to hear of successful HB - i'm also planning HB so quite concerned as now 41 weeks

thanks to VG for reading/bf combo... if baby ever comes out i will be trying these positions out

longwayfromhome · 03/09/2008 14:01

Morning all. DS asleep. House needs a clean especially as my mum is arriving on Friday. Greetings to all.

ataraxis · 03/09/2008 14:03

I'm with Annvan on the MC with conception being after 1st period after, so difficult to know conception dates exactly (which was why I was prepared in my head to go with scan rather than LMP dates).

Sambo - they cannot stop you from having a homebirth even if you go over 42 weeks, legally they have to attend whenever the date is - don't let them push you into anything you don't want to do just because it doesn't meet their statistical norms.

You can always go with the monitoring option rather than induction for some time over 42 weeks anyway (depends on your LHA on their approach to this but once you are clear on what you want, don't be bullied into anything else).

longwayfromhome · 03/09/2008 14:07

Oh, and in my 3 weeks of experience the fact that a baby is awake for most of the day has no bearing at all on whether he will sleep at night. I find that he doesn't settle very well after a night time feed and change (probably 2-3/night here) and will be awake and restless for a couple of hours or so.

DH back to work on Friday, so am feeling slightly worried about the amount of time awake in the night. Oh well.

And ... DS doesn't really like going in a sling, which is a shame, but maybe he will grow into it.

longwayfromhome · 03/09/2008 14:07

And ... congratulations on all the new babies with beautiful names. Hurrah.

ataraxis · 03/09/2008 14:15

longway - generally takes longer than 3 weeks to sort out - most people I know who have had sleep-through-the-night babies haven't had it happen on a regular basis until 6-8 weeks irrespective of what their babes did in the day.

Will be nice to have your mum around (I am assuming ). Is it a coincidence that DH goes back to work same day ?

ChaCha · 03/09/2008 14:21

Just popping on while the DC nap - hoping everyone is well. Congratulations to the ladies who've had babies recently, sorry i haven't been able to keep up to name everyone individually.

x

AnnVan · 03/09/2008 17:08

Hi ChaCHa good to see you! And Longway.

Well been to reflexologist. It didn't make me as sick this time, which was a relief. She said everything in my feet feels really ready, and she worked on all the relevant points.
I'm actually doubting my due date now though, because I'm sure that at my 12 week scan, they had a slightly different date, but just ended up putting down the same date as my LMP dates. So I'm wandering if that scan wouldn't have put me as due about now?
I'm thinking that I might ask for an extra few days before induction.

alittlebitshy · 03/09/2008 17:30

ann hoping your reflexology a) helps you sleep again, b) makes that baby consider the eviction process.

cyteen congrats - lovely name

buckets well done on the school run.

VG hugs

we had a good night last night - 8 hours - woohoo. Maybe I do have another good sleeper (watch me jinx things). Atm we're taking him up to bed when we go so that we maximise sleep time fo us too..not sure when we'll consider a bedtime for him. The last few days he's gone off ok again for 2-3 hours after a feed and nappy change too, so that's good....

argh - henry calls

CaptainCaveman · 03/09/2008 18:49

Hee hee, just popped on v quick whilst bath is running for ds's....

dh is downstairs with both of them, trying to persuade ds1 to eat his chicken. I guess you have to be here to appreciate the funniness of it but dh is using spongebob squarepants as a bargaining tool (with not much success)

x

miamla · 03/09/2008 18:53

8hours?? in one go????

oopsacoconut · 03/09/2008 18:58

Evening All

Congratulations to all the new mummies and new babies.

Annvan - Hope your day has improved and reflexology - even though mine didn't start labour I credit it with making things happen when I was induced. Our PCT let you go 15 ays over before induction and are reluctant to induce before then unless medically indicated - So you should be able to push it that far and hopefully bubs will put in an appearance before then.

All this sex talk makes me feel sad - I want some too the week in hospital before DD was born was awful I tried to persuade DH that there had to be someway to get some but he was too scared of the matron!

DD is doing ell feeding well, my milk came in last night and I woke up looking like a glamour model (chest department only) and she struggled with the latch for the first few feeds but she has got the hang of it now. On today's best note - I fit in my pre pregnancy jeans - YIPPEEEEEE!!!! ( although with no tone I do have a bit of a miffin top)

Will try out sling tomorrow - maybe we can get things done!

TwilightSurfer · 03/09/2008 19:15

okay ann & ataraxis you make me look like an old prude. I too MCed and had NO cycle before conceiving Reese (mc then 17 days later conceived) but I wasn't doing "the deed" everyday so it was fairly easy to calculate conception. You all must have been at it like rabbits.

Sambo, I'd say 272 days is pushing the overcooked mark UNLESS you have short cylces (24 day) then I'd say you are right on the money!!

OP posts:
sarahnh · 03/09/2008 19:42

glad your reflexology went well AnnVan...

right i need to know approx how many hours during the day your lo sleeps??

Tess has had a horrible grumpy day today and as a results cries from when she wakes up til either she sleeps or eats.. she is asleep which makes me nervous for night time... having said that i really don't want a repeat of her marthon 5 1/2 awake time yesterday!!!

I guess what i am wondering is if they sleep lots during the day does it mean she is going to be awake for hours in the wee small hours?? Dh is away tonight and dealing with 2dcs has really taken its toll today!!!!

AnnVan · 03/09/2008 19:43

Thanks Oops - I found the reflexology quite relaxing today actually. Helps that I didn't get hideously sick like last time.

TS - hee hee.
We do tend to look at that warning on cigarette boxes ('smoking damages the sperm and decreases fertility') and say I dread to think what DP's would be like if he didn't smoke!

On the plus side, I've been having some period-type pains quite low down, but trying not to read too much into this at this point.

sarahnh · 03/09/2008 19:58

fingers crossed your pains are the start of something AnnVan.. positive vibes

cyteen · 03/09/2008 20:08

Hello all Just a quickie as laptop is running out of batteries - just to say we are home and I am feeling very well looked after. Am not very mobile due to stitches, fatigue and the most unbelievably awful piles so wonderful DP has sorted everything out, run me a bath, fed me tea while I fed DS, and is generally being out of this world

Have written rather a lengthy birth story, hope you don't mind if I post it - am still mullling over the experience...

After my waters broke on Saturday afternoon we spent Sunday lounging around/going for walks etc. Contractions started coming at varying levels early Sunday evening, then I had a bath at about 1am which seemed to bring them on for real. Stuck on the TENS machine, phoned the birth centre and they said to come in.

Got to the birth centre at around 4am, contracting every 2-3 minutes; had examination and was 5cm dilated already, which was a nice surprise. The TENS machine was brilliant, really helped me out and I surprised myself with how well I managed to deal with the rising levels of pain just by breathing/making hippy ohmmmm sounds through each wave Got into the labour room, all very peaceful, sat and chatted with lovely midwife while my contractions got stronger. DP and I even got some rest - I managed to doze off between contractions and was generally feeling pretty good.

At about 8am, was examined again and was 8cm dilated so was told I could get in the pool. At this point things began to go a bit wrong. I started on the gas and air but it didn't seem to agree with me, just made me really spaced out, and being in the pool didn't help. With hindsight I was starting to get tired out by this stage so perhaps should have stayed active, but never mind. Contractions were REALLY strong by now and very painful, and I could tell the hard work was imminent, but despite all encouragement and exhortation the baby just wasn't quite in the right position. He had come down the birth canal but not quite made it into place, so I basically pushed and pushed for two hours against my body IYSWIM, growing more and more exhausted with no result. Eventually at around 1pm they had to transfer me to hospital, which tbh was fine by me as I had been telling them I was too tired, I couldn't do it, he wasn't going to come out etc. for ages. My arms and legs were numb and I couldn't really support myself too well, which made labouring actively quite difficult.

So they bundled me off in the ambulance, with DP having to follow in the car, and I think the bumpy ambulance ride just knocked J into position. Arrived at hospital at around 2pm, and THEN I felt that urge to push - I couldn't not have if I tried. DP arrived 15 minutes after me and saw it all happen

Had lovely tearful cuddles with DP and baby, then the midwife examined me and said I had some small tears that needed stitching, so I spent the next hour and a half being rummaged about by a doctor with extremely brisk fingers, while mister got to spend quality time with our new son. That extra hour and a half did not add to the experience.

So, all in all it was really okay; those few hours of fruitless pushing at the birth centre really felt like I was being tortured at the time, but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't so awful and I am so so proud of myself that I managed the whole thing with no other pain relief than TENS machine and gas and air. I even did the stitching with just gas and air despite the doctor wanting to take me to theatre and do it under spinal block, simply because after all that I was not going to round it off with major anaesthetic.

The other important thing is that at no time was Joseph under any kind of strain - he stayed totally calm and healthy throughout. Given some of the things that might have gone wrong, a few hours extra work really isn't all that bad (even if it did give me piles ).

Congrats to all the lovely new babies and their mums and dads!

cyteen - glad everything went well in the end. Not such an old wives tale about bumpy roads then!

TS , well, y'know, have to take advantage whilst you can...

Annvan - fingers crossed for you. Everything has gone v quiet this end, but am booked in for reflexolgy myself tomorrow, so we shall see.

oops - LOL at DH being scared of matron - very 'carry on'. Hope you get some soon .

albs - just trying to prove me wrong?!

Buckets · 03/09/2008 20:27

Just a reminder ladies YOU CAN GET PREGNANT WHILST BREASTFEEDING!!!
Thought I'd mention it because every flippin day on Mumsnet someone is shocked to find hgerself pg and they weren't using contraception 'because I was still breastfeeding.'

gigglegirl · 03/09/2008 21:07

evening ladies, sorry I haven't posted for AGES but things have been slightly bonkers round here - nothing new I know.

My sis ha been for a visit with my new nephew, he is gorgeous and although only 6 weeks older than Imogen he is at least three times bigger than her! Imogen is still small but is putting on weight nicely - she's 5 weeks now and 7lb 15 - much smaller than my other three. Nights aren't great but she sleeps loads during the day, keep trying to wake her up but it is a losing battle.

I'm feeling ok, still have a small hole on my scar but have got one pair of jeans back on and am driving.

Bad news is that we are totally strapped for cash - isn't everyone! Have had a few of our customers leave as their businesses have failed so obviously affecting us, plus our gas and electric bills just arrived and they have doubled! So am on total budget saving mode - eating from cupboards, lentils and beans etc.. So now as well as running own business and running toddler group, having 4 kids, being a rainbow leader and childminding for a friend once a week I am starting three things to bring in some extra cash! 1) am going to sell some handmade totally personal letters from santa online 2) am going to sell some e-book on childrens activities and low fat receipes that you can make for a whole family 3) have just signed up as a phoenix trader selling cards etc.. (if anyone wants a catalogue let me know! you can find me on facebook or I think you can use my profile on here to email me - only just found I had a profile and added some pics!!)

Am being very positive as two of my best friends have just had their husbands lose their jobs so makes you realise what could happen they all earn loads more than us but it is all relative I think!(one has an interview for an equally highly paid job next week but none the less!)

Anyway - imogen stirring so best go. love to all
