Hello

I have just found out that I am pregnant and calculate that the baby is due on 1 May. It's a bit early for me to be getting excited but I can't help it!

Is anyone else due in May?

Welcome peacelily ceeceeanne millionsaway gateau

Ses hang in there! It just goes so slowly, doesn't it?

ellsbellzie I can't believe you were given the run-around so pointlessly, that's awful. Good luck with your scan tomorrow, let us know how you get on. I had a bit more bleeding - so far one wipe's worth of spotting on Thursday, Saturday and then last night. I'm seeing my GP tomorrow so I will mention it and try to get a scan.

Gordon sterling work with the list!

Re home births, I've decided against it as our house is small and would feel cramped, plus we are 25mins drive from both hospital options (I'm in Staffordshire Moorlands, so have a choice between North Staffs and Macclesfield) and I'm a bit paranoid so I think I would prefer to have facilities on hand.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok this evening.

peacelily · 08/09/2008 20:24

Anyone else in Manchester/Stockport/North Cheshire area?

Thanks for the welcome!

Jaamy · 08/09/2008 20:28

spangle - hope you get a scan tomorrow. No matter how many (or few) symptoms you have it's always re-assuring to see that little bean. I have been thinking of a home birth because this is going to be my third and probably last DC. The nearest hospital is just a mile away if there were any complications and my mum is also a retired midwife so would be some help too. I got through DD2's delivery with just gas and air. DH is terrified, though as he remembers DD1's birth completely differently to me. Maybe I'd had too many drugs?

Gordon - I had to be quick off the mark with appt making. DH works away a lot so I needed to make sure he would be around. We've got a fab new phone and book system here. You get to pick your appt time and day without having to sit around waiting for a letter.

SpangleMaker · 08/09/2008 20:28

I work in Manchester, but don't intend giving birth there - intending to leave work in plenty of time OMG can't think of anything worse than giving birth at work

WobblyPig · 08/09/2008 20:29

I have a son - but I think he has 666 on his head - does that still count.

Jaamy · 08/09/2008 20:29

peacelily - I'm halfway between Warrington and Liverpool so not too far from you.

Jaamy · 08/09/2008 20:34

LOL spangle. I work from home so in a way I could be giving birth at home!

Jaamy · 08/09/2008 20:35

d'oh! - "giving birth at work"

SpangleMaker · 08/09/2008 20:37

Jaamy sounds like you are in an ideal situation for a home birth. Knowing my luck FIL would turn up, he is always coming up to 'do jobs'.

A couple who were renting the house next door had a home birth. I felt awful - I had to go knock on their door as the midwife had parked in front of our drive, blocking us in, and I had to leave for a train. Didn't hear any yells or howls so hopefully I didn't interrupt at a crucial moment!

Jaamy · 08/09/2008 20:42

Oh no! The thought of FIL turning up halfway through has really put me off a home birth!!!! Actually he probably wouldn't notice. He'd step over everyone and head to the nearest armchair and just rustle his newpaper! Tutting and sighing occasionally to remind us he was there.

bigtree · 08/09/2008 20:49

Hi ladies,how is everyone??

Jennster · 09/09/2008 06:56

Hello again ladies. Lost this thead along the way somehow.

Sorry to hear about all the bad news and dreadful morning sickness.

I've had all my children at home so am a bit biased about homebirth. Think they are brilliant. I don't even want to think about having to go into hospital for the third. [shudder] Fingers crossed there will be no reason to. For me the choice was pretty easy. I'm 30 mins from the midwife led unit, and 10 mins tops from the maternity unit. The mw put it to me, that if anything went wrong at the mwlu, (the slightest thing) then I would be blue-lighted to the main hospital anyway. I figured I'd rather be 5 mins away than 30 mins.

Got to go DS has just had a bf and has crawled off to destroy my kitchen cupboards. Detsy think it was you asking about an 18 month gap. Don't worry. You'll cope!

Jennster · 09/09/2008 06:59

Oh and had to buy some maternity trousers yesterday. My normal ones are a little tight, but these are enormous. I had some really nice (yes nice) ones from Mothercare 3 years ago, which were good for early on. They had elastic inserts hidden by zips you could let out as you got bigger. I used them right to the end. They don't have them any more, and I gave mine away.

GordonTheGopher · 09/09/2008 07:00

bantam73 · 09/09/2008 09:30

Hi everyone
Sorry I haven't been on for a wee bit, I have no excuse. I was thinking about having a home birth but.........
My first was in hospital and was lucky it was, had some complications with the delivery. So a plus point for hospital.
My second was also a hospital birth but she ended up caughting a form of mrsa from there. Luckily it was caught early and she recovered completely due to a over reactive parent. A minus point for hospital

SpangleMaker · 09/09/2008 10:16

Gordon fingers crossed for a good blood test result.

Just been to the GP, rather underwhelming but I expected as much. Apparently everything is dealt with by the midwife. Just rung and got my first appointment a week on Monday when I'll be 8 weeks.

I mentioned my bleeding to the GP. He thought that as it was very very light, no cramps and hadn't got any worse it was unlikely to be anything to worry about though he admitted the midwife might be more cautious. I got the impression if I pushed I could have got referred for a scan at the EPU but in the event I decided not to. Not sure why really! I just think as it's still quite early on it could worry me more if they can't see the heartbeat for some reason. I'll see what the midwife says when I see her and maybe consider a private scan at 8/9 weeks.

SpangleMaker · 09/09/2008 10:19

ellsbellzie meant to add, hope your scan goes well this morning.

GordonTheGopher · 09/09/2008 13:18

Blood test came back and is consistent with my dates. Have booked early scan for 30th September when I'll be just over 7 weeks. Made me rather worried as I found out I had a mmc in an early scan last time.

Argh!

Cies · 09/09/2008 13:31

Just reading through this all, and still nothing more to add here!

Inni, I´m British, but live in Vigo with Dh who is Spanish.

Credit to all of you who are thinking about the birth already! I am still firmly stuck on this first trimestre. I don´t think I´ll allow myself to think that far ahead, just in case...

Off to doc in an hour or so, so hopefully I can get some more concrete info and a plan of action.

inni · 09/09/2008 13:36

Congrat and welcome to Gateau, millionsaway, ceeceeanne (your edd is the same as mine) and peacelily. Sorry if I forgot anyone.
I hope ellsbell gets a positive scan today and give to the forum some good news.
GordontheG don't worry you'll see time around is different, it shouldn't happen twice the same.
Splange Good you got the app. I would do private scan if you can't get one until the 12w.
About the heartbeat just can be found at 6w by internal ultrasound and not always. I guess I've been rally lucky. At least don't have to worry about it for now.
About home birht I'm really surprised how many women in the UK opt for this. I don't know if the health care is not really good so no one wants to have their babies at the hospital. It's not a possibility around here. I had a really bad experience on my first childbirth but a really good one with my second one but either way I wouldn't done home. The only thing I hate it's that you have to be in the hospital for 4 days but in the other hand you get some rest if you have more children at home.

Jaamy · 09/09/2008 14:02

Gosh inni - if you have an uncomplicated birth here, they usually have you out the same day. One of the reasons why I wouldn't mind a home birth. Would mean I wouldn't have to pack everything I think I might need when I'll only (hopefully) be gone for a day.

Cies - hope all goes well at the docs.

gordon - GLad bloods are good. Only 3 weeks to wait to see your little bean. Twil fly, I'm sure!

Spangle - SOrry GP was a bit useless. You just have to mutter pg to our GP and he practically throws you at the MW. I know what you mean about the no news being not good news thing. I figure 12 weeks will be soon enough to know for sure whether things are ok. In the meantime, I'm enjoying keeping our little secret. Except for DH, no-one outside of MN knows.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Feeling very bloated today. Quite welcome actually as had lost all my symptoms. Skin is absolutely perfect though, for a change.

SpangleMaker · 09/09/2008 14:05

Gordon glad your blood test was ok. Inni is right, it shouldn't happen the same again. I really think this waiting game is so hard!

Since we're talking birth options, one thing I wasn't prepared for this morning was to be asked my choice of hospital right away (although they did say it didn't matter yet). The GP was good and gave me a personal opinion. Basically the choice is between a v large maternity unit, lots of consultants etc (+ midwife led unit) but [GP whispered] the nursing care may not be so patient-focussed; and a much smaller hospital but with a high patient satisfaction rating. I'd sort of decided I liked the idea of having specialists/facilities on hand but apparently the other hospital has a good consultant for nuchal scans. Obviously the scan is weighing heavier on my mind just now. Guess I could choose one then swap but I suppose that would be really naughty!

SpangleMaker · 09/09/2008 14:11

Jaamy I've only told one person (apart from DH!) and that's the way I'll keep it until at least 12 weeks/nuchal scan. I told a friend at work yesterday as she knew we were trying and told me about her own pregnancy early on. It was lovely as she was so elated for us. Although I'm being cautious it was nice to have a brief moment of excitement and felt especially naughty as I had to whisper it in the corridor after checking no-one was around!

ellsbellzie · 09/09/2008 17:09

Hi everyone! I had my scan this morning, I had to have an internal one too, not good news, they couldn't see anything in my uterus and they suspect eptopic! So ive been admitted to hospital, where I am now, im really confussed though, ive been examined and where I should be tender im not and nor am I bleeding or in servere pain. So they've taken bloods and will do again in 48 hrs, this apparently will give them the answers, I asked if they would scan me again, as im in a differnt hospital, and would like a second opinion but they said theres no need. The doctor advised me its not 100% thats its eptopic it could be that the embreo is very small, and unable to be seen, this has totally messed my head up,as im now getting false hope! I suppose all I can do is wait and hope, im so glad ive got mumsnet to keep me going! x
