Hello

I have just found out that I am pregnant and calculate that the baby is due on 1 May. It's a bit early for me to be getting excited but I can't help it!

Is anyone else due in May?

just out of hospital where I was put on drip. Not feeling much better to be honest and terrified that a scan will show everything is going poorly. DH is to monitor me at home and if I go down hill again back into hospital. I hate being away from ds, and sounds awful but resent this happening so soon to be honest, he shouldn't have to deal with me being split between him and the baby until it is born!!!(isn't that awful, I should just be grateful that I am pregnant again at all.) Welcome to newbies and fingers crossed for those with bleeding, spotting and inconclusive tests. Off to find MrsHappy to check if she is ok.

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/09/2008 09:12

Hi justgotbfp.
Guess you've probably tried everything to help with the hyperemesis but I've read really good things about taking Vitamin B6 supplements to stop it. In America it seems to be a common thing for doctors to give and it is effective in many women. I think the dose is 25mg either 2 or 3 times a day for about 3 days to see if it works. I think 75g is the upper safe limit according to a lot of sites but some recommend up to 100. Also ginger capsules taken every few hours is meant to help a lot.
Maybe its something to look into (or for your DH to look at for you) - apparently it works in a high percentage of women but not for all.
Anyway take care, I hope things settle down asap.
(In my last pregnancy I took a smaller dose of vit b6 to help with my morning sickness - not severe but still quite horrible and it did help me so I 'll be taking some again if/when I start feeling rubbish this time).

  • will check the doses and confirm
frazzledoldbag34 · 07/09/2008 09:25

Vitamin B6 25mg 2 or 3 times a day
Ginger capsules 250mg 4 times a day
Or you can get a Vitamin B6 injection from the doctor if you can't keep the capsule down.
if you google 'vitamin b6 morning sickness' you'll get lots of info. Tried to add a link to a good one from mother nature.com but am rubbish with the computer and it didn't work. Anyway there are lots all giving similar advice. Good luck anyway, and feel better soon.

justgotbfp · 07/09/2008 09:27

thanks frazzle
am on an anti nausea, b6 and ginger as you suggest. unfortunately i seem to be in the percentage they dont really help

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/09/2008 09:29

By the way I'm NOT a doctor so please check out all the above with your doctor of midwife first before taking!!

(Although I did ask my gp last time what the safe max dose of vitamin B6 was and she said (and I quote) -
'Um, not sure. Why don't you have a look on the back of a cereal packet?' !!!!!
I took the extra B6 anyway, felt better as a result and had a beautiful healthy baby.

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/09/2008 09:33

sorry bfp, crossed posts there!

Oh no, what a shame that you're taking all those and nothing is helping you!! How long have you been taking them for? And are you on a high dose of B6?
Surely if the doc has given you anti-nausea tabs that should at least take the edge off? Does it have an anti-histamine in it? I've also read that the combination of anti-histamine with anti sickness is more effective?
(Sorry, I've been reading all sorts in fear of morning sickness striking me again badly!)

Anyway best of luck and feel better soon x

Morning, just wanted to add myself to the list. Got BFP on Friday, slightly excited, 2nd preg after MMC. Due mid-May so just 4 weeks. For morning sicknesss I found thet Voegel Milk Thistle drops in water x 2 a day (as suggested by my v good naturopath) really helped in addition to the things already mentioned. Eating doughnuts & burgers had a similiar effect. G'luck.

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/09/2008 10:12

Congrats and welcome to carol7 and nauseous.
Thanks for the tip re-milk thistle drops in water. Might try that should the need arise!!!
Feel fine at the mo, which is odd cos last time I felt rubbish from 4 wks on ward. Maybe (hopefully) i'm lucky this time? Hope there's nothing wrong.....
Am tired, sore boobs and slight heartburn so hopefully its still in there. Will re-test in the morning with my jazzy new sample CB test and find out how many weeks.
Any ideas on how to calculate my due date? Had mirena out 1st Aug and had 2 weeks of on/off bleeding after so no idea. LMP 21 July but am guessing that' irrelevant???
Any advice as I'd like to work it out?

inni · 07/09/2008 10:47

Congratulations to cies, carol7, gordontheg, ellsbellzie, bekkaboo and naiseus and welcome. I hope I didn't leave anyone behind.
I'm still brown spotting but the appointment with my gyn is tomorrow and will see the baby as I'm 6w tom. I've got a cold on Friday and feeling more sick than ever. I threw up yesterday (sorry tmi) but for me was a wonderful sign as I just did three times on the past 4 years, one on each of my pregnancies.
to justgot I really hope you get better and find a solution on any of the ideas the other girls have advised you.
Missedith I know exactly what you mean. I'm really scared too and seeing other like us having problems with their pgs make us feel down. I hope everyth goes well for you and see you soon around here.
ellsbellzie I'm in the same situation as you. I'm having brown discharges for a week now and sometimes was red but really little. I've been having some tablets send by the gyn to stop it (at least I'm not bleeding). I have the same problem in 2nd pg and everyth turned out ok. You should be able to get an early scan due to your spotting, ask your dr.I'm having scan tomorrow so fingers crossed.

ellsbellzie · 07/09/2008 11:32

Hi, im due May 5th Hope u all dont mind me joining! Having a bit of a worriing time at the mo, started bleeding a little on friday evening, and continued over the weekend. ellsbellzie · 07/09/2008 11:44

detsy · 07/09/2008 11:50

Hallo Girls - feeling very sorry for myself as have come down with DD's sickness and diar bug - deciding which end to aim at the loo first at the moment. Feel really poo (in all senses of the word... sorry way TMI!!) Supposedly going to Sweden tomorrow for a business meeting, hmmm maybe will need to check if I can take off whilst sitting on the loo...??!

Bekkaboo my DD is only 9 months - aagghhh. Was expecting this to take longer than it has!!

I still have zero symptons of being pregnant and can't keep up with the cost of weeing on sticks - am considering paying for an early scan just to put my mind at rest. I head somewhere that if they see a foetus (embryo?) at 7 weeks with a hb then there is a 95% chance that all will be ok. 7 weeks next week so will look into it I think.

detsy · 07/09/2008 11:53

Actually she's 10 months now.. durr!!

SpangleMaker · 07/09/2008 12:53

detsy poor you - no fun being ill at the best of times but esp when putting pregnancy and business trips into the equation.

inni ellsbellzie I'm 6 weeks tomorrow, too. I had a bit of spotting on Thursday and - TMI alert! - after we did the deed last night. Seems to have pretty much stopped now. I'm going to the GP on Tuesday and will mention it but am fully expecting to get a similar response to you, ellsbellzie, although to be fair I have never met this GP - he may be super helpful

sarah76 · 07/09/2008 13:05

llareggub , I think I'd be happy continuing the metformin, I just wish I didn't have to argue for it. Maybe I just won't tell her. . .I'm going to be under the midwives for most of this anyway right? Did you take the metformin all the way through your pregnancy or just the first trimester? The stuff I'd read seemed to be mostly about first trimester only, so I was thinking I would just keep on it for next 5-7 weeks and then stop. I've got enough to do that! My mum is a nurse in the U.S. and was asking me if I was going to continue as well, as she's also read that research. I may have to hunt up some of the articles and send them to GP.

First blood test tomorrow! I've never been so hotly anticipating getting stuck with a needle! I just want to hear that everything is progressing normally. Starting to think I may be being too pessimistic, thinking something is wrong because all my symptoms are gone. Maybe I'm just lucky? Could I really be that lucky?

Told my reflexologist yesterday that I was pg, and she was sooooo happy/excited for me! I started with her four months ago, and honestly that's the only big change I've made, so she's chalking it up as a success story (I'd been trying for 2.5 years).

llareggub · 07/09/2008 13:37

sarah76 I took it all the way through last time, because of the benefits relating to gestational diabetes and minimising the amount of weight gained during pregnancy. I tended not to tell the midwives about it because they couldn't get their heads around the fact I didn't have diabetes!

Febes · 07/09/2008 20:26

Hi I have just tested and have BFP, think I'm due in 10th May so I'll jnoin this thread. I'm very excited this little one will be No 2. I have 9 and a half month old DD.

bigtree · 07/09/2008 20:35

Hi all,
I got my BFP Friday so will be due around the 17th May next year. So happy just hoping all goes well..it'll be nice to catch up throughout the next few months,i've been on a ttc thread for a while.
As far as symptoms go i'm suffering with a bit of nausea and burping for england, boobs are swollen and tender and already cannot fit into jeans as stomach is sooo bloated. Hoping they're good signs as its so early.
Hope everyone is doing ok??and heres to the next 8 months x

bigtree · 07/09/2008 20:36

Oh btw this is my first..xx

Momino · 07/09/2008 21:59

MrsHappy and Charlie, am very sorry for your news. Charlie, do keep us updated in any case for your follow ups. No words I can think of...

Momino · 07/09/2008 22:04

it's been a few days since I've been on the site. Welcome and congratulations to all new faces. Hope you're all feeling ok and don't stress too much.

Me, I'm about six weeks weeks pregnant and have only started 'real' symptoms two days ago. until now, i've been bloated and having cravings but nothing else. now, i feel nauseous and have a horrible taste in my mouth. also very tired and took a 2 hour nap today. so, yes, maybe it's true I am pregnant.

anyway, this was my appearance of the night and hope to come back tomorrow and stay a bit longer.

Inni - good luck with your scan. xxx

Momino · 07/09/2008 22:08

oh one last thing. i've put on those wrist band things for nausea and, although they didn't help much last pregancy.they seem to be calming my sickness a bit.

anyway, I think worth a try if you've tried everything for m/sickness. g'night.

flippineck · 07/09/2008 22:12

Can I join you all? Got my BFP yesterday, lmp a bit odd so EDD might be sometime around 12 May. It's funny, that was my grandad's birthday, and DD1 (now 17 months) was due on my other grandad's birthday!

Feeling ok at the moment, just shocked! Had a bit of cramping over the last few days, but only in my back. Had a mc before DD, so obviously nervous at the moment.
