Hello

I have just found out that I am pregnant and calculate that the baby is due on 1 May. It's a bit early for me to be getting excited but I can't help it!

Is anyone else due in May?

missEdith · 04/09/2008 11:04

charlie it might be worth contacting EPU directly sometimes they fit you in

also if you feel like going to A&E just go

fingers crossed for you

MrsHappy · 04/09/2008 11:06

Charlie I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. There's not much I can say, but I am thinking of you and hoping that everything will be ok.

I think a lot of us on this thread are worried about our pregnancies. My mother claims things were better in the old days when there were no HPTs and a Dr wouldn't confirm pregnancy until later so often you only knew for sure that you were pregnant after the first trimester. I can see her point.

I'm sorry I haven't been about much but I am trying really hard not to think too much about things. We have our scan tomorrow and after that I can allow myself to get a bit more excited. For the moment, every twinge is a sign of another ectopic. It's pretty hard.

JustgotBFP your GP should have emergency appointments. I believe GPs are required to see you within 24 hours for an emergency and I would say that is what this is. The GP can prescribe you anti-sickness medication. If you can't get in, get your DP to call NHS direct and then the PCT and make someone see you. women end up in hospital on drips if they are allowed to become too dehydrated so they do need to get this sorted for you.

justgotbfp · 04/09/2008 11:07

charlie so sorry to hear that, I hope it is all a false alarm! How awful to have to wait so long for scan!
may sign off for a while, dh wants to take me into after hours as he thinks I am getting dehydrated, am flat on back with lap top balanced, can't sit up without being sick but have been having sips of ice cold water as often as I can manage but my lips are chapped and my mouth feels dry so dh is on the panic wagon.

missEdith · 04/09/2008 11:12

regarding sickness some people get on well with travel sickness bands from the chemist but you should really see the doctor, my sister had horrendous sickness in her second pregnancy, ended up loosing weight but the doctor helped

hope you are seen soon

charlie1000 · 04/09/2008 11:21

Thank you for your kind words missedith, mrshappy and justgotbfp

MissEdith My Dr has already phoned EPU and left my details with them, but they have this stupid system where you can only speak to an answer phone so you just have to wait til they get back to you.
Also if I went straight to A&E what would they do? Would they scan me? I don't want to go if they're just gonna tell me to wait it out?

JustgotBFP really sorry you're so poorly, it sounds awful for you. I think you need to insist on seeing a Dr, it's important you stay hydrated. Thinking of you and hope your sickness subsides very soon!

charlie1000 · 04/09/2008 11:23

MrsHappy Really hope your scan goes well, I'm sure you'll be fine and hope you can relax after. Thinking of you and sending you lots of positive vibes

missEdith · 04/09/2008 11:31

charlie I suppose it is a different system from place to place, sorry. sometimes A&E will scan you to rule out ectopic etc but I suppose it varies also. where I am EPU will see you within 24hrs.
I am sorry it is such an anxious time take care

BrightSideOfLife · 04/09/2008 11:50

charlie so sorry to hear about the bleeding. I hope the EPU will see you as soon as psooible. If not - I think it depends on the A&E but some hospitals have a scanner in the A&E and will scan you there. Where abouts are you?

I also had to wait a while to get into my EPU with my last pregnancy (an agonising 4 days) and (like you) couldn't speak to anyone directly. My heart goes out to you...

MrsHappy My mother says the same. She also says that without access to all of these early scans, there was 'less' to worry about. I would argue the opposite, but they may have a point!!
Good luck for your scan.

llareggub · 04/09/2008 12:13

charlie

The same thing happened to me with my DS. I had a very heavy, dark red bleed at about 8 weeks. The EPU could not scan me for a week so we paid to have a scan privately, and they were able to scan me within 2 hours. I think we paid about £60 for this.

Anyway, we were amazed to find a healthy heartbeat on the scan, despite the bleeding.

My GP told me not to worry about symptoms disappearing, so don't give up hope just yet.

inni · 04/09/2008 12:26

I'm sorry to hear about your bleeding charlie. I've been there myself(or still are).I just bled a little and went to my gyn on Mon (5w) and did scan to see if sack was in uterus. Everyth was fine. Sent me tablets to stop the bleeding and they have worked. Not bleeding in 30 hs. You must have some tablets that can't stop the bleeding too. My gyn told me if I was in lost of pain and bleeding lots go to ER if just bleeding like for a day go to see her again. I hope you can get somebody before the weekend to easy your worries. Best luck for you.
Justgot hope somebody can help you out soon and you can star to feel better.
Mrshappy good luck on your scan tomorrow you'll see everyth is going ok. Don't worry it's just a few hours away. I still have to wait til Monday and it seems forever.
Missedith I think this is the best nickname, at this point, that will cover all of us and how worried we are.

Momino · 04/09/2008 12:38

charlie, hope all is well. x

charlie1000 · 04/09/2008 15:18

Thank you all so much, it means a lot. I have been resting up today and when I woke up still having bleeding so thought perhaps I should go to A&E anyway rather than til things become too awful, but then realised I had a missed call on my mobile from EPU. I phoned them back straight away and to my surprise I got to speak to someone who was very nice and she has fitted me in for scan 9am Tomorrow. She said people bleed for all sorts of reasons and it could be part of the uterus lining coming away, but I think in my heart I feel I'm heading into miscarriage

llaregrub how long did you bleed for with DS? I'm keeping my fingers (and legs)crossed that this little bean will stick around but think I will be surprised if all is ok at scan. She said they might not be able to see much at 5 and a half weeks so may have to do blood test too.

missEdith · 04/09/2008 15:43

charlie it is good to know you will be seen soon. will not tell you not to worry as I know it to be impossible.
but it will be good to know either way
best of luck and fingers crossed

mrsHa[[y good luck for tomorrow too

Jael · 04/09/2008 15:47

Hi everyone, I can't join the thread yet, until I know all is well with the baby, which is next Friday. As I've been getting ALOT of pain, cramping like period pains and backache. I don't want to ruin your thread. Which by the way I read everyday, and want to be on so much, but I can't add myself until I know all is ok. I read about taking the baby aspirin, can someone explain more to me, does this help stop MC? Jael x

MrsHappy · 04/09/2008 16:38

Charlie I am glad you're being seen soon. Fingers crossed you'll be posting tomorrow lunchtime to say everything's fine. And your EPAU lady sounds lovely. Which hospital are you going to?

Jael It's good to see you here. I hope your scan next week goes ok too. I know it's really hard not to worry, but everything could be fine. When I was first pregnant with my daughter I had terrible cramps and backache, so much so that I assumed I couldn't be pregnant and took a load of painkillers. The baby aspirin thing is that some Drs think it helps with implantation, although you really shouldn't take it other than when advised by a Dr and even then it should only be baby aspirin and not the full strength stuff.

I hope everyone is well. Am terribly nervous about tomorrow, but hopefully everything will be straightforward. I've been sat at my desk feeling really really sick all afternoon - I can't decide whether it's a variation on MS or nerves!

aquababe · 04/09/2008 16:38

charlie sorry your bleeding it's really tough I know.
I do know people who have had a lot of blood loss and have gone on to have healthy happy babies fingers crossed for you

justgotbfp I see actually being sick as a good sign as i just felt sick last time when it went wrong. But of course it's all relative.
I was 5 1/2 weeks yesterday though and still no bleeding. just got to get past 8 1/2 weeks now.

sarah76 · 04/09/2008 17:37

Hi everyone. . . I've now managed to convince myself that I have a blighted ovum and there's really no baby in there. Last week I felt queasy and certain food was putting me off, but this week I feel completely fine. Also my sore boobs are becoming less sore. No bleeding so far, but I can't shake the feeling that something isn't right. I should be 6 weeks exactly on Sunday.

Seeing the GP tomorrow as I'd scheduled the appointment to talk about staying on Metformin (was taking for my PCOS), and coming off Efexor. I'm going to ask for an early scan and hope she doesn't just tell me to wait.

Truthfully, I don't feel too bad about this, I suppose because I'd rather think the worst and be proven wrong. Just blathering here, must leave to go home now and fret until the morning!

llareggub · 04/09/2008 18:17

sarah76, I have PCOS and continue to take metformin. I take 500mg x 3, and did this throughout my last pregnancy as well. There are lots of benefits to it, but it took a letter from my consultant to continue with the prescription. My GP was very reluctant, but supportive after the letter and after reading the research I took along with me.

charlie when I bled with DS I had a massive flood with some big clots, followed by a day or so of mid to heavy bleeding. My GP told me that she bled during her pregnancy as well.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, good luck.

Jaamy · 04/09/2008 18:54

Gosh, haven't you all been busy today? Just taken me ages to catch up.

inni - glad bleeding has stopped and that the scan on mon will show that everything is
hunky dory.

Charlie - hope the bleeding stops overnight and you have some good news for us tomorrow. You could be getting the first glimpse of your bean tomorrow!

Spangle - at your PCT! Are you tempted to walk past them all and blow a raspberry with suitable hand gesture?!

Detsy - I think that perhaps having 2 relatively close together may be easier to cope with than having a larger gap. The mundane and not so nice jobs will still be a fresh memory and not such a shock when you have to return to them. As for your DCs, anyone I know with 2 less than 2 years apart say that they (mostly) get on well and are good company for each other before they get to make their own friends at school.

Ses - I've got to fit into a posh frock at the weekend too. Tummy is fine, it's the boobs that won't fit. Argh! Hope you have a lovely time and no-one guesses your wonderful secret.

llaregub - ditto at Private Practice. Well, it was a bit . Probably not hormones at all.

bantam - at 21 yr gap.

MrsHappy - good luck for scan tomorrow. Exciting but nervy at the same time. Hope the bean is smiling and waving!

BFP - they (whoever they are) say that MS is a good sign of a healthy baby. That bean is nicking all the good stuff from your body and making you feel rotten. Like a parasite..but a nice parasite!

Sarah - hope the pessimism is misplaced and you get your scan to prove you wrong.

Jael - hope to see you posting here properly soon.

Keeping fingers (and toes) crossed that everyone's beans stay put for at least 7.5months.

GP says I can't take or apply anything for rash on legs due to my "condition" so am destined to have one scabby leg for the forseeable future. He didn't really know what it was. Hopefully the midwife might have some ideas tomorrow.

Symptom wise, apart form massive boobage I have been having a bit of indigestion and slight headaches.

Loulabella · 04/09/2008 19:53

Hi to all. I have been following this thread but felt too nervous to join. My EDD is 1st May (not certain).

This year I've had a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy that resulted in removal of my tube (no reason identified). Felt pessimistic about future fertility and was shocked & delighted to discover I was pregnant again two months later. I have had mild preg symptoms on and off and no real spotting this time. I've had cramps throughout and analyse every physical sensation to the point where I feel I'm losing my mind. I was terrified about losing my remaining tube and to be honest, this has been my focus over the last few weeks. I have pestered my GP and EPU to scan me and they kept saying 'not until 6 weeks' and gave me an appt for Mon 8th.

Last night I started feeling dull, throbbing twinges I recognised from the previous ectopic. I thought I was imagining it but it was still there this morning so went to A&E. I was scanned by the EPU immediately and saw gest sac and yolk sac in uterus (hooray!). They didn't seem overly concerned at not detecting fetal pole and heartbeat yet, though this is my new worry. About the pain - nothing identified but the lovely nurse gently warned that there was a 1/30000 chance I have an ectopic pregnancy as well. I'll have another scan in 2 weeks so it's back to the waiting game.

I've really appreciated this thread, it's been reassuring to hear all your stories and I feel for all of you who are struggling physically and/or emotionally.

'Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.'

AAL · 04/09/2008 20:14

Im due May 1st too. I am very happy, as had mc last May and haven't fallen since, tho been trying.
I am incredibly scared of losing again - I only knew it had gone wrong at 12 wk scan last time, which was horrific.
My son is 4 on Sat, so will be big gap, but not much I can do!
Does anyone have any advice on how to survive the worry until 1st scan? I keep breaking down, particularly as no symptoms ???

Overtiredmum · 04/09/2008 20:29

Hi all. Sorry not been able to post since I first introduced myself but having been keeping a quick check to see how you all are. I can't come online during the day as I have no internet at home, so it has to wait til I come to work in the evening, and sometimes, just sometimes, they make be do bloody work .

I have to say I am so glad reading most of your threads cos I am 6 weeks (2nd pregnancy) and am struggling with my trousers and jeans already!! Never thought it would happen this quickly was hoping to be able to keep it quiet til my first scan!! I went on a diet in January and lost just short of 4 stone. One of the ladies came up to me just now, and whilst starting at my tummy, said "Oh dear, have we fallen off the wagon a little??!!" I mean, what do I say to that????

Overtiredmum · 04/09/2008 20:41

Hi AAL. Sorry you're going through such a worrying time. Can you not speak to your GP and see if you can get an earlier appointment based on your previous history? My best friend has quite a history of MC and when she fell pregnant with her DS (now 1) they sent her for weekly scans until they were sure that she has passed that crucial stage. I know what you mean about the symptoms though, or rather lack of. My first pg was great, absolutely no symptoms throughout. This time, although no morning sickness, feel absolutely crap, my boobs are enormous already, am having trouble sleeping either though completely knackered and chronic heartburn! They saw that every pregnancy is different, boy ain't that true!! So try and stay positive honey, I know its hard, especially when you want to shout from the rooftops. Thats the great thing about MN! You can tell everyone!!

SesHasapinkline · 04/09/2008 20:55

Hi again all!

AAL - I'm only 4+2. This afternoon and early evening though completely lost it. Started thinking of all that could go wrong (history of mc as well) Tears just came. I knew it was hormones though when I cried at Friends!

BrownieBells · 04/09/2008 21:16

Hey all - can't believe how quick this thread moves!
For all those fearing the worst - you have my support and strength and hugs - not much I know, but all I can offer.
I am trying to remain optimistic and hopeful that all will be well. Have to carry on life as normal with a fairly demanding 2.9 yr old ds, who woke at 5:30am this morning asking if he could come into our bedroom (then promptly threw a loud tantrum when told No!) Anyway, eventually got that sorted - but needless to say being awake at 5:30am and then doing a full days work kinda takes it's toll!
Charlie (and all others awaiting a scan) I hope that all goes well - and will be thinking of you.

I am ashamedly glad that there are others who, despite the early stage of pregancy, are starting to find their clothes tight - I will soon be struggling to find any clothes to wear to work! And at this rate, I won't need to tell anyone at 12weeks - they will all know by 8wks!

Symptom-wise - mine are still farily non-existent, but had no ms with ds1 either, so am not overly concerned by that. Just the thirst, tiredness and bloating (and very strange fluttering feelings in my tummy - anyone else experiencing that??)
right, off to surf FB now!

xx
