Hello

I have just found out that I am pregnant and calculate that the baby is due on 1 May. It's a bit early for me to be getting excited but I can't help it!

Is anyone else due in May?

5wk+5 so very close to you. The worry is truely dreadful isn't it, I was just so take it for granted with ds and actually enjoyed his time indoors. Not even able to really admit to myself I am pregnant again yet just in case...every twinge is a cramp, every wipe looks pink, I even worried that the violence of my errrm food removals today could have dislodged the bean if it has burrowed in well enough which I know is just not possible. I will say that I know countless people that have had brown and red bleeds and been absolutely fine (know a lovely 6 month old whose mum bleed on and off throughout her pregnancy)

justgotbfp · 02/09/2008 08:45

oops not sure how that happened. llaregubb had temperarally forgotten the leaking boobs, I used to feed ds with one and hold a bottle over the other (not that he would ever take from a bottle but it just seemed such a waste)

MrsHappy · 02/09/2008 09:08

Oh no JustgotBFP I am sorry to hear the MS has kicked in with such a vengeance. I am 5+5 also and I get sort of waves of nausea but easily combatted with a tin of Pret Ginger Beer! I usually hate the stuff but right now can't get enough. In ym first pregnancy I had no sickness at all but my ante-natal vits contained ginger (aso I couldn't taste it). I wonder if that helped...

LOL at llaregrub's leaking boob. I stopped breastfeeding my daughter when she was 7 months old so it has been well over a year since I last did it. I have to say that it is one thing I am really looking forward to doing again.

Inni I hope that the spotting is under control now. It sounds like the pills the Dr gave you are some sort of synthetic progesterone which is given to maintain the uterus lining and keep it nice and thick. If anything is going to do the trick I would imagine that will.

Jennster do you work for Tena by any chance?!? I am lucky in that I have never had those problems, but maybe that is because my daughter was an emergency CS. It has always struck me as a mean design fault that childbirth can impact on such a thing.

Congrats to brownie and overtiredmum and welcome. Do you want to add yourselves to the register?

missEdith · 02/09/2008 09:57

morning all welcome to newbies

leaky boobs had forgotten that, I bf dd for over 2yrs but it all seems so distant now

about name change is just that I post regularly and have a regular group of friends here who I know in real live but am no one famous in MNland

how twisted is it that I wake up an search for the nausea in order to fell be better dear oh dear, last time I only had relatively mild nausea for a couple of weeks

llrggub thanks for that I am not sure what the issue is regarding MC

justgotbfp · 02/09/2008 11:10

is it normal for ms to get very very bad very suddenly? Can currently not sit up with out losing the liquids dh keeps plying me with. Not enjoying this at all

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2008 11:22

justgotbfp poor you, that's awful. No experience of MS (yet) but perhaps see your doc if it doesn't improve?

Just booked an appointment with my GP for next Tuesday, seems ages away! Am getting paranoid today because I don't seem to have any symptoms at all. I bought some cheap tests from Tesco yesterday, might try one when I get home for (hopefully) some reassurance.

Jaamy · 02/09/2008 11:45

Spangle and inni - my symptoms have been waining too. Don't feel bloated any more and am actually longing for a bout of nausea! Was relieved to feel sensitive boobs when bathing DDs last night but even that has gone this am.

BFP - IME the only thing you can do to help ms is rest, rest and more rest. I know it's difficult when you have to go to work and look after other DCs. Please keep persevering with the liquids. If you get dehydrated, that's no fun. If you go to your GP they will probably just prescribe rest and sign you off work. If you are able to take time off, might be an idea. Don't know whether you want to "out" yourself at work yet, though.

MrsHappy · 02/09/2008 11:49

BFP that does sound extreme. I had no idea it was so bad. I think if you can't keep things down for a couple of days you need to see the Dr and get him to prescribe an anti-emetic. Also, get your Dh to get so Diorlyte (not spelled right, I know) which might help you feel a bit stronger.

Am about to call my GP for my first appointment. Knowing their booking system I will get in sometime from about 15th Sept onwards. Crap, isn't it?

Jaamy · 02/09/2008 12:04

Just phoned for MW appt and was shocked to get Fri am! Thought I'd have to wait weeks too. Now madly dashing around to find someone to look after DDs - DH is away with work til Fri pm.

Jaamy · 02/09/2008 12:05

How did you get on with your appt-making, MrsHappy?

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2008 12:26

Jaamy how exciting you can have your appointment so soon.

Good luck with your appt making MrsHappy. My Dr's surgery is almost the opposite, there are only a few advance appointments - you are supposed to phone up on the morning of the day you want to go, which is a huge pain if you're trying to organise around work/childcare/etc.

MrsHappy · 02/09/2008 14:00

I'm completely stunned Jaamy. First they said they could fit me in on Friday but I can't go because I am going for a scan that day. Then they gave me an 8:30am appointment on Monday, which is great.

This is a far cry from the difficulties I had trying to get an appointment for referral to the EPAU. When I tried to get an appointment for that (a week ago) they told me they could only fit me in this Friday which is really the day on which I need to be scanned (so I would have to hope for a same-day referral and then spend hours waiting for a slot at the hospital). That's why I gave up and am paying to go private, because I just don't need the stress...

Generally you have to polan your illnesses 2 weeks in advance or claim it is an emergency and go on the day you call. I am pleasantly shocked.

Anyway, problems solved now which is all good.

Congratulations Pinkcandyfloss.

charlie1000 · 02/09/2008 14:36

Hi All and welcome to pinkcandyFloss.
Well the last couple of days I've woken up feeling absolutely shattered. It doesn't help that I've come down with a stinking cold either (which is exactly what happened in first two pregnancies) but not being able to take anything for it and not sleeping so great i'm feeling a bit poo.

Have been anxious the last few days over my blood pressure. After having suffered with hypertension since my last pg, I have been on meds which has kept it under control, but went to Dr last wk and she has taken me off them and given me a BP monitor which I have to use 4times a day for 7days before going back with my readings. Well my follow up appmt is this afternoon so after a week of not that great BP readings I'm wondering what will happen next. Think I'm worried about having to take meds through pg but probably even more concerned if I don't. I'm not quite sure what I'm hoping the outcome will be but hopefully Doc can get things under control. I'm sure she knows what she's doing but just feel I have so long to go and hope pregnancy will be a smooth one.

Good news MrsHappy about your scan and Dr's appmt, must be a relief for you to have them being more thorough this time. Also pleased for you jaamy fri's not long to wait!!!

When does the midwife usually start to detect heartbeat in check-ups? Can't remember how early it was with my boys but not sure if will have to wait til after 12week scan? I spoke to my midwife end of last week and she said I need to book in when I'm around 7/8 weeks so just sitting it out and can't wait to get things moving. Time's moving slowly at the moment.

spangle try not to worry yourself, I'm sure you're absolutely fine but I know what you mean about doing more tests, it's just that reassurance thing. I'm sure Tues will come round soon. I know what you mean about symptoms waining, I've been the same yestaerday and today. Have to keep poking myself in the boobs to make sure thay're still hurting, which usually after a prod they tend to!

BFP sorry to hear you're suffering so badly. I had a client (I'm a hairdresser) who couldn't even keep water down when she was pg and she had to go on anti-sickness tabs. Wonder if you might be needing those. It's certainly worth seeing you Dr I would say. Needless to say this client of mine was worried beyond belief but had a perfectly healthy 7 lb 7oz baby girl . Try to rest when you can.

Jennster · 02/09/2008 17:27

Mrs Happy - I most certainly do NOT! Any old brand will do but it's easier to type Tena than incontinence towel, and you know what I mean.

missEdith · 02/09/2008 17:32

hi all welcome pinkcandyfloss congrats

feeling rough today all blinking day tired and nauseous first thought was, what have I eaten?

anyway still feeling unsure about this all business and yet keep looking at baby things

tomorrow am taking dd to her pre school for a proper start to her 2 mornings, after her settling in sessions, she has been asking me everyday this week 'can I go today oh please can I can I'
must tell her that grabbing my skirts and a few tears is the decent thing to do

missEdith · 02/09/2008 17:33

whole business

SesHasapinkline · 02/09/2008 18:06

Hello all! Wow this thread is fast moving - struggling to keep up!

Welcome pinkcandyfloss

charlie1000 - now you've told us all you're a hairdresser and someone pg with dc1 wondered if you'd mind telling me the truth about colouring hair during pregnancy... I'm due to get my hair cut next week but don't want to tell my hairdresser I'm pg yet but I would like to get my highlights redone at some point....

(oooh sorry if that's taking libertys asking Qs... If you or anyone wants to pick my brains about pharmacy things, feel free!!)

I'm going to try and see my GP on Friday. I know it's still quite early for me as I'm only 4 weeks but after my problems this year, I want to get in there quick and also I have an underactive thyroid and my meds may need adjusting.

SlippersAndPipe · 02/09/2008 19:03

Hello again. You're right about how fast this thread is moving.

Very many congratulations Pinkcandyfloss!! You know me but I'm not ready to out myself just yet until I'm convinced all is well. Don't let on if you work out who I am.

Hello and welcome too to Brownie and Overtiredmum.

Detsy the joys of pregnancy! Hope the cough subsides soon.

Justgotbfp hope you're feeling ok. I remember ms from last time. Blurgh....

I still need to ring the GP for my booking in visit. Keep forgetting to do it . Don't want to do it from work for obvious reasons. Better do it soon to get me 'in the system'.

Brown spotting (sorry if tmi) is still continuing but has been much much lighter today. Is that a good sign?
Also nearly threw up this morning on way to work. Happened to be following a bloke in the street who was smoking and I think I got a whiff of his smoke which made me retch for five minutes. I quickly changed my path.

WobblyPig · 02/09/2008 19:12

Hi there again. Anyone else got a toddler whose decided that right now is a good time to get really difficult. Just when mummy's feeling a bit green and very tired DS has decided to scream on and off from 1-5 am.
really wondering how I 'll cope with 2. reassurance needed.

SesHasapinkline · 02/09/2008 19:17

Oh Wobbly

I'm sorry but I don't have any dc so haven't experienced this. All I can say is that I sometimes wonder how I'll manage with one but everyone reassures me that I'm no different to anyone else and I'll be fine. I guess 2 dc will be more to think about and cope with but most of my friends with 2, also love watching the 2 grow up together, play together and generally love it. I'm sure you will too. I'm just sorry your DS has chosen to get difficult when you could really do without it.
HTH

llareggub · 02/09/2008 19:21

wobbly...our toddlers are the same age, I really know how you feel! We're in the same boat.

I guess it is more important and ever to get some time out and get as much rest as you can. My DS can be a handful and it really helps if I don't let him get over-tired. I find quiet periods really help.

WobblyPig · 02/09/2008 19:41

It's lovely to be able to sit a read a book with him or build towers and watch the new words develop every day but sometimes the 5.30 starts are just too much. today he caught me having a litle cry - I'm a bit all over the place at the moment - and he passed me a blanket ( !) and tried to wipe my eyes with it and stroked my head. He is lovely but just a bit too full on sometimes esp. just a the moment.
