First time mums expecting Spring babies

FlirtyThirty · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

jools - glad you are still lurking here, and that you made it over to the fabulous support on the mc boards. There was one in particular that saved me a few days in June.

I think the bear idea is lovely, and it's something you can keep close to you when you need it. I heard of one couple planting a miniature rose bush in the garden with fairy lights on, which I thought was also a lovely way to remember your little one. I do think it's important to do something when it's a later mc - as you say you have given birth.

Hoping the worst is over xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We have been xmas shopping today - what a mistake!!!! I am soooooooooo tired!!!! X Factor then bed for me lol!

brettgirl2 · 16/11/2008 09:11

Jools, so sorry about what has happened, please make sure that you take care of yourself and give yourself plenty of time to recover. I can't even imagine what you must be going through.

Bicnod · 16/11/2008 11:02

Jools - glad you're still on here - really want to hear how you're getting on. The pudsey bear idea is a really good one. Hope your lunch with your friend went ok? It sounds like you have a good support network around you... Thinking of you and sending lots of love x x x

Flirty and Littleduck - thanks for your post... you're right, I should start thinking about how I'd deal with having to stay overnight in hospital - I've just been sort of ignoring it. I think I'll chat to the MW at the next appointment. I'm sure you're right that they would transfer you for an epidural if you really needed it, that must happen - like you say they probably just don't want to encourage people to plan that as it must be a bit of a hassle for them. Not sure when we have to make the decision about MLU or maternity ward - I told the MW at my booking appointment that I wanted the MLU but not sure how seriously they take it at that point.

CE and daisy - I was thinking about a homebirth as well, but DH doesn't feel happy about it for the first baby and I don't think I'd feel relaxed about it either... that's why I'm so keen on MLU, it looks as homely as a hospital could be... CE - so glad you're feeling happier about it now. I think I definitely need to speak to the MW - hopefully I'll start feeling better about it like you...

I'm 16+6 and can definitely feel the baby moving now It started about a week ago, just very faint, and now a lot stronger. Started off like a fluttering/tickling, and now more like a popping - more definite kicks/punches I didn't believe it at first as I know it's quite early, but in the last scan the baby had REALLY long legs, so maybe that's the reason!

I've also got a more obvious bump - it just sort of popped out over the past week. Still pretty small, and still fitting into my usual jeans/tops etc, but definite bump shape.

Final bit of news - I went for a run last week for the first time since I got pregnant - and it was fantastic I ran a lot before, but was sent to Ethiopia with work for 2 weeks at week 5 and was quite ill when I came back, then had morning sickness nausea/vomiting for a while (which has eased off now, although puked on friday for the first time in ages ) so didn't run for ages because of that... then I was just scared to run. But really missed it, and finally bit the bullet and went for a gentle run with DH and felt soooooo happy after it

Wow, this is a mammoth post - sorry for verbal diarrhoea!

Hi ladies

Playing catch up as usual......

Jools - I am so very very sorry, thinking of you and sending lots of hugs. Your idea for a little Pudsey sounds lovely. Take lots of care of yourself.

Was away with DP staying with my mum for the weekend. She and DP both think I definitely have a little bump; I still think I just look a bit fat! Still no movement as yet.

Take care everyone and hope you are all well

Littleduck xx

daisyj · 17/11/2008 10:01

jools - glad you're lurking. I think it's a lovely idea to have something to remember your lo by. It also sounds as though your body is dealing with things as it should , which in its own way is reassuring (well, I found it so, anyway). I'm sure you'll be back on the pregnancy forums of MN in no time (or as soon as you're ready). Keep in touch, won't you.
xx

CE and bicnod - how fab to feel the baby - it's so reassuring, isn't it. I've found it made everything so much more real.

I have 21 week scan today at 3.00. Am excited and a little nervous, but also drowining in work so a bit preoccupied. Will report back on scan tomorrow, and catch up properly later in the week.

skiingone · 17/11/2008 11:13

Good morning girls!

Jools - hope you're looking after yourself. Enjoy nice cheeses and large glasses of wine before you decide to get back to antenatal groups. Thinking of you and sending lots of hugs xx.

daisy - looking forward to hear about the scan. And hope you're not working too hard.

I've finally started to feel the baby this weekend.Got lots of movement on Saturday in the evening when I quietly sat on the sofa and had some dark Lindt chocolate with nuts. DH also got to feel a kick. The bump is also quite large now especialy in the evening. I think I'll be huge.

Hello to everyone!
XX

daisyj · 18/11/2008 09:14

Hi ladies

Scan all fine - the sonographer said the baby looked 'lovely' and had great legs!

Fell arse over tit this morning, putting my arm out to stop myself. Knew straight away that Bo was OK, but still felt a bit shocked - not to mention a now swollen knee and wrenched shoulder (and bruised dignity). Will be walking more s-l-o-w-l-y from now on.

Jools - if you're still there, I hope my last post to you didn't sound brusque. That's the trouble with writing things in a hurry. What I really meant was that it's so easy to feel as though your body isn't working properly when you mc, and that if you manage 'naturally' to recover, then that can only be a good sign that all will be well in future. xx

Hope everyone else OK.

skiingone · 18/11/2008 15:10

Hello girls!

Daisy - so glad about the scan! especially about the "great legs"!
Sorry you fell over, hope the knee and the shoulder heal fast! Loss of dignity is something we might have to get used to...

Hope that everyone is doing ok.

BinkyB · 18/11/2008 17:40

Hi ladies, manic few days here but my news is bump is huge, DH and I have both felt some kicking from one or some of the 4 legs (now there's a strange thought) within, and all I know about these babies otherwise is that they like hot chocolate fudge cake. It's not me, honestly

Got 20 week scan on Thursday so might know more then but am going to try and not find out the gender(s). Can't wait for another peek at them though!

Hope all's well with you all and daisy you are not having any more stumbles!
xx

Jools1 · 18/11/2008 17:47

Still here from time to time

DaisyJ - you weren't brusque at all - I know just what you mean as, despite everything, I'm actually quite proud of my body that it managed to m/c naturally, that I had contractions, felt the urge to push and at least was able to go through the process of birth, albeit too soon What amazes me more is the day before the mc, I was so incredibly thirsty, I must have consumed at least three litres of water - am convinced my body knew that I needed that to prepare for what was to come ?

It all kicked off at 1.30pm last Tuesday so I was a bit weepy today - went to the cathedral for only the second time in the ten years I've lived here and lit a candle for Jools Jr.

Bleeding has stopped and it is time to move on. I actually can't wait to TTC now - just feels like the right thing to do. Maybe I'll be able to start a thread soon for first time mums expecting Autumn babies

I have a lovely soft grey cuddly rabbit with floppy ears sat next to me on the sofa - couldn't get a Pudsey bear to spent all afternoon looking for the right thing

Lovely to hear about more good scans and baby kicks

daisyj · 18/11/2008 17:59

Ahh Jools - feel weepy reading your post. I don't know if it helps, but it took us 10 months the first time round and then we conceived first month of trying the second time. We had a break of 3 months first, as that was best for us for various different reasons - but it seems as though it's true that you are more fertile soon after you have been pregnant once. I'll be thinking of you and look forward to hearing how you are whenever you want to drop in here. I've given up on my other threads for now, as just so busy at work, but I'll look out for you. Much love and positive thoughts to you.xx

evs34 · 18/11/2008 19:36

evening all. 20 week scan today went really well. babe fine and 100% is a girl, hooray!

bump growing here too. my placenta is anterior hence why not felt anything yet but i am hoping within the next cpl weeks i will.

hope your bruises not too bad daisy.
need more chocolate and tea so goodnight xx

skiingone · 19/11/2008 13:37

Congratulations "Evs"! Great news about the scan! And 100% girl means you can concentrate on preparing yourself for a girl!!!

I was told last time it's a girl as well, but thinking of buying some things in neutral colours as I'm already thinking about what my second child could possibly be...I know it's not right when I don't even have this one yet. Just planning ahead I guess. Having said yet, I haven't bought anything for the baby yet and will wait till we've moved to a new place. Will start shopping in January I think.

Hope everyone is ok.

daisyj · 19/11/2008 14:17

Evs - glad your scan went well. Great to pass another milestone, isn't it? We decided not to find out the sex - although initially I wanted to, when it came to it I decided I quite like it that Bo is just Bo, and not a girl or a boy (to me) yet, and DH wanted a surprise anyway.

skiiginone - I know what you mean about planning ahead and thinking of the next one - I'm doing it too .

It's a bit quiet on here at the moment...

FlirtyThirty · 19/11/2008 14:25

Hi ladies...a bit manic so barely been around ans sorry for not taking time to reply to individuals!

Jools - glad you're still here and looking forwrad positively. I completely understand the candle-lighting and I'm not a very religious person. A lovely gesture though.

Evs - good news on the scan! What was the 20wk scan like? Mine's in 3 weeks. Does all the measuring take a long time? Did your sosnographer explain what they were look for?

Quick update on me...bought a pair of Next maternity trousers and can't believe how comforatble they are! At last, I can wear something that doesn't cut me in half! Phew. It's not that I look obviously pregnant (except to me!) more that I'm just a bit chunkier round the waist than I used to be.

Still not feeling baby movement...though I do have a sort of tickling feeling that I suspect may be baby. Get it when i eat ice-cream (which would be constantly if I allowed myself!). Really hopeing other people will be able to feel baby kick by Xmas as it's the only time I'll se my family til baby's here...

OP posts:
BinkyB · 19/11/2008 15:35

Flirty my kicks come more when I've had a really cold drink so maybe that's why with the ice cream too - the brrrr wakes them up! It only happens for me when I am lying down or sitting still for a while (when moving around apparently that rocks babies to sleep) but then I find if it happens, I don't want to move as I want them to do it again - so end up marooned on sofa even more than I was before!

Sure you'll have some kicking for Xmas, here's hoping!

Evs would also love to know how long you were in there for - got mine tomorrow and wondering if with 2 to measure I might need to take a good book

evs34 · 19/11/2008 21:18

evening girls. scan did take some time and she was great in explaining everything she was looking at. she did take lots of measurements and then plotted them on some charts in the hand helds. amazing to see the change in just 7 weeks, things more detailed and obvious and little face v cute.
might take an age with 2 binky but you will love it. they move about so much.

has some v strange hard feelings in uterus today which DH can feel too - not sure if it is wind in overlying bowel or olive kicking ( name change as no longer looks like maggot but has a tummy in the shape of an olive!! ) i didnt think you could feel kicks from the outside for another cpl mths?! anyone else had this??

all the best tomorrow binky.

going to bed with a magazine. lol xxxx

FlirtyThirty · 20/11/2008 09:52

Good luck for today Binky - I'd love to know how they work out which bit belongs to which twin! My scan took about 20 mins, and the sonographer took a lot of care and showed us each organ as she checked it - couldn't believe how big the heart looked - bigger than the whole baby we saw at our first - 8-week - scan. It's so amazing to me that there's something in there that's nearly a foot long!

Flirty - I reckon if you think it's the baby you can feel then it is. My early feelings were just like little bubbles low down. DH felt his first kick on the outside when I was about 19 weeks, so you'll definitely be able to let your family 'have a go' on the baby by Xmas, I'm sure

Hello! Just back and it took an age, but yes it was lovely. It was really hard to see some bits and one of them was particularly camera shy & kept burying face in the sac of the other twin - aww. Looked like h/she was nuzzling into the other twin's bottom! Really tricky at some points to work out what on earth you are looking at but the sonographer saw us squinting and stopped to explain everything - "there are 2 little feet, each has five toes as you can see" was cute, and "yes look there are 2 kidneys" possibly less cute but very reassuring!

Can't believe how big they are - explains my rapid expansion, anyway.

DH had to go off to Geneva afterwards so was a bit of a end to the morning. Am consoling self with mammoth pile of cheese on toast and going into Soho with the girls tonight - feels like the first time in about a year that I've done anything as bold as after-work drinks! Mocktails all round.

Evs I've felt kicks for last 2 weeks and DH has been able to feel them for the last week or so, just little taps but lovely to see his face when it happened. Must be what
yours has felt too, your little girl making her presence felt. How exciting, a pink one!

We didn't find out genders today, going to try and keep it a surprise. My friend did the wedding ring test where you see what direction it spins on a necklace held above your belly - it started to spin really strongly so it was DEFINITELY boys therefore, she said. Then she said, hang on, it might DEFINITELY be 2 girls, she couldn't remember if it was swinging or swaying for each. Then she did it again and it changed direction half way through, she got hugely excited at this and says that has NEVER happened before and it must mean it is DEFINITIELY one of each.

FlirtyThirty · 20/11/2008 13:48

Oh Binky! How exciting! I cannot wait for my next scan (still 3 weeks to go though) - I'm positively beside myself with excitement...curiously much more so than last time. I think everything just feels so much more real now. Enjoy your mocktails tonight!

PS. I did the ring test myself - DH would think I'd gone mad - and it was a most distinct pendulum swing, which my Googling tells me is indicative of a boy. I fairly sure it's all nonsense...but if I had to put money on it, I'd probably say it's a boy myself....)

OP posts:
skiingone · 21/11/2008 11:58

Binky - that sounds so exciting to see 4 legs and twice as many things! I like the shy one who was hiding behind his brother/ sister. So cute.
Hope you enjoyed your night out.

I had an appointment with my ob yesterday and he scans me everytime, so it's no longer very exciting for myself. Baby seems to be ok and he reconfirmed that it's definitely a girl. Next time I'm seeing him mid December and he will invite a specialist who deals with pain relief who will check if my back is suitable for epidural ( have back scoliosis). He's already started to prepare me for labour ( checking out what options we will have) - now I'm feeling scared... So far I've just been worrying about how the baby develops, now I'm starting to worry about how to deliver it savely. It never ends...

Hope everyone is fine. Wishing everyone a lovely wekend.
