First time mums expecting Spring babies

FlirtyThirty · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

I don't know it but I feel sure there's at least one blue one in here - all DH's family only seem to produce them in that flavour!

Oh and can revise my due date now, sorry to leave you April ladies but obs has said no way would he let twins go past 38 weeks. Skiing like you I am already started to think about the birth in much more detail - we have to chat to the obs about it in January so am going to try and read lots before then, but think I almost have to prepare myself for any eventuality (all bets are off with a double yolker) and just accept whatever comes.

Here's the list with my new date:

March
Lolianja - EDD 2 March - Essex (but probably giving birth in Lancs)
ChocolateEclair - EDD 28th March - North Yorkshire
BinkyB - TWINS - EDD 24 March - Chelsea & Westminster

Evening ladies...

Omigod I'm soooooooo tired... been sleeping on the living room floor all week as we've been having wardrobes built in our bedroom. Currently hiding as supposed to be painting...

Bathroom being ripped out tomorrow so house is basically going to be total chaos until Christmas. Argh!

Heard baby's heartbeat at GP ante natal appointment yesterday and little one is kicking and kicking... bit distracting in meetings at work!

Hope you all have good weekends... we still on for Kingston meet up on 13 December?

Hi everyone - sorry I have been so lax in posting. By the time I have done a full day at work I am knackered! I have been reading all the posts though!IT'S SNOWING HERE!!!! It's sooooo cold and I am meeting my mum for a coffee. Shame my coat doesn't button up any more! LOL!........hint hint I am now officially HUGE!!!So glad that you are all well, and we have some more successful scans to talk about! It is so lovely that more of us are feeling our babies move now and seing them wriggling around on the screen. I too am getting quite distracted when trying to teach if the baby gives me a big kick! The kids are fab and are always asking me if it's moving and have I decided on a name yet!

CE 21+6 xxxxxxxxxPS. Big hug to jools - hope you are feeling a lot better and looking forward to getting back ttc

brettgirl2 · 22/11/2008 09:33

Hi everyone, exciting news about all the 20 weeks scans - mine's Tuesday, quite scared but I'm looking forward to seeing baby and getting it out of the way. Not sure whether I will announce gender on here - we are intending to find out but not tell anyone, I guess here might not count.

How pregnant I look depends really on what I am wearing, some bloke did give me his seat on the tube the other day though! Movement is also getting more definite and first time today felt it from the outside (although OH missed it!)

brettgirl2 · 22/11/2008 09:34

Oh and by the way I think I am having a boy

lolianja · 22/11/2008 12:15

Nothing concrete but I'm very confident I'll be adding to the girl influx come March!

Elpis · 22/11/2008 20:52

Am very envious of all the movement on this thread. Thought I might feel something on my wedding day (!) but on reflection that was hardly rational and suggests the control knickers weren't encumbering him/her too much!

I had a letter from the hospital today giving the Down's risk as 1/13,000 - I think I can live with that ...

Is it just me or is anyone else finding that their bump fluctuates hugely in size?

littleduck · 22/11/2008 21:59

Hi springmums

Just popped in to catch up on everyone's news!

Similarly very envious of all the movement! Still can't feel anything for now, I sit very quietly on the sofa sometimes and concentrate to see if I can feel anything but I just end up feeling my heart beating!!! Bump still quite small, seems to get a bit bigger in the evenings but not much. In maternity trousers and jeans now though, usual stuff rather too tight for comfort now.

Very exciting to hear about everyone's 20 week scans and boy/girl baby news

Elpis - many congrats on your wedding, I hope you had a really lovely day, good news on your Downs risk stats too.

Bicnod - hope the building work goes well, will be having the entire inside of the back end of my flat ripped out and rebuilt before Micro turns up so feel for you! No antenatal appts for me between 13 week scan and 20 week scan, amazing how NHS varies.

Would have been great to come along to a Kingston meet on 13 Dec but am away from London that weekend. Would love to meet up with everyone though, if there is ever another meet planned would really like to join.

Big hi to everyone I've missed, hope everyone's well and having a good weekend

Littleduck xx

daisyj · 24/11/2008 09:31

Ooh, Elpis - totally forgot to ask how the wedding was . Did the dress fit OK. I bet you looked blooming. Post some pics, lady!

Bicnod - you have my sympathies. We still have loads to do, and people staying next weekend - they were going to come Friday night, but think we'll have to put them off till Saturday to give us a bit of time to have things in a fit state. It WILL all be worth it in the end, though , although I know that's hard to believe when you're sleeping on the living room floor.

Would love to meet the Kingston ladies on the 13th.

xx

Oops, not sure what happened with the bold there! Special surprises for me and Flirty, I guess!

skiingone · 24/11/2008 10:28

Hello girls!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Elpis - congratulations!!!! Now you can relax and be an honest wife expecting a baby... I'm sure you looked wonderful and don't worry the baby will kick at some point soon. Great news on Downs risk! My bump get larger by the evening.

Apparently I have an anterior placenta and this mates it more difficult to feel the baby kicks, but I feel them now reasonably regularily with long(ish) breaks now and then, but it only started just over a week ago.

Bicnod - I hope the most troublesome renovations will be over soon and you'll be able to enjoy your new bedroom and bathroom.

Brettgirl - please let us know how the scan goes and looking forward to see if it's a girl or a boy .

Binky - sorry to see you move to March , not sure why they think that you shouldn't try to go full term with twins ( we were twins and born on our due date - no harm done), but it is probably quite tough with twins in the end.

We went for a weekend to Seville and as it was warm ( about +21), sunny, blue skies and no clowds whatsoever I was wearing t-shirts and got a lot of people in the cafes/ bars/ on the streets wishing me "successful/ good delivery" in Spanish and asking if I was having a girl or a boy. So I guess I officially look pregnant. It was very unusual to have so much attention. The weekend was great except we few Ryanair and it was a late flight delayed by 2 hours, so we end up arriving in Luton ( instead of Stansted) at 2AM, so home only after 3AM this morning...but was still worth the trip.

Unfortunately I can't do the 13 Dec meet up, we will be away on our 10 year wedding anniversary trip. Would be glad to catch up another time though!

Hugs to all.

Who is looking after you in C&W?

BarbarellaNz · 24/11/2008 13:32

Thanks for the welcome!

skiingone I see the fetal medicine specialist every two weeks for scans as it is a pair of identical twins plus a singleton. He is looking out for something called twin-twin transfusion syndrome which basically means one twin hogs all the nutrients, causes problems with the other twin and means you can lose all three with premature birth. So far everything is going well but we are still keeping fingers, toes and everything else crossed!

oops - didn't mean to post that twice!!

daisyj · 24/11/2008 13:50

Welcome Barbarella - Wow, triplets!

Skiingone - Seville sounds great - lucky you to be getting away from this weather. Isn't it lovely when complete strangers are so happy for you?! Bit of a difference from the woman who stared at my bump as I stood on the train for half an hour this morning. I was too shocked at her staring and not moving to even ask for a seat!

My bump's starting to feel quite tight. Can't believe, though, that I was worrying about how uncomfortable it might get when we have twins and triplets here

DH was so sweet yesterday - hope this isn't tmi, but he was sitting chatting to me while I was in the bath, and when I stood up to soap he suddenly rushed off and got the camera to record bump in naked glory! Actually two of the pictures are really lovely, if only for private consumption, and it made me feel very lovely and womanly, and much more inclined to forget aches and pains and beginning to feel like a weeble

Kalikaroo · 24/11/2008 15:16

Hi everyone! Had my 21 week scan this morning - everything is fine and baby measures well for everything apparently! BUT I really wanted to know the sex and it lay there with its legs and arms crossed the whole time!!! The midwife was trying to prod it so it would move because she was having trouble seeing the heart valves - and it wouldn't bloomin' shift (must take after its stubborn Dad... ). So, upshot is that I don't know the sex and we probably won't find out until the birth.

Oh well - at least everything's in the right place and looks normal! We also didn't manage to get a cute profile shot because it was lying on its side, so we got kind of scary front-on shot where it looks like a skull with scary eye-sockets!

Feeling really relieved though. For some reason I was pretty nervous about the scan because I haven't felt much movement yet (21+3).

On a different note, I was wondering whether any of you have been fighting more often with your DH/DPs since pregnant? We seem to be rubbing each other up the wrong way far too often recently and I think it's a mixture of me being over-sensitive/hormonal and DH being a complete git!

FlirtyThirty · 25/11/2008 10:20

Kalikaroo...hooray that your baby's doing so well...and but sorry you didn't get to find out gender! Frustrating if you really wanted to know. To be honest, I kind of hope that's what'll happen to us. I'm determined to wait until birth to find our the colour of my bump but at the same time, I do really want to know! So...I'm going to ask them not to tell us...but it would be very convenient if they couldn't see anyway. I couldn't be tempted then!

My scan isn't for another couple of weeks but I'm actually looking forwrad to it more than the 12wk scan when i was terrified of missed miscarriages. There is most definitely something inside me now - that or I really have been eating too much!!

My big news is that I think I felt a kick in bed last night. Just a few gentle ones, but a definite movement. I lay SO still and placed my hand as gently as I could on my tummy, and there it was. Did it about 5 times and then stopped. Am really hoping that my husband will be able to feel it soon...trouble is baby's so unpredictable!

OP posts:
Kalikaroo · 25/11/2008 11:10

Glad you're finally feeling a few flutters flirty ! I've just recently started noticing the odd one here and there, mostly when I'm lying in bed.

Finally started telling people at work this week - I decided it was probably a good idea because I'm really starting to show and didn't want people gossiping! Feels very strange to have it all 'public' now. Told my boss a few weeks ago, but no-one else really.

Just had some great news - my best mate has found out she's up the duff too! So we can commiserate together! Seems to be something in the air at the mo'.

BinkyB · 25/11/2008 13:50

Hello and welcome Barbarella! Might see you at Chelsea & Westminster one day, who knows. Am seeing Mr. Thorpe Beeston & Mr. Marwood there, we only go every 4 weeks as ours are non identical. Have you started researching triple buggies/prams yet??

Skiing Sevilla sounds lovely - the Spanish are such suckers for kids and pregnant kids, I think it's lovely - if a bit embarrassing when my Spanish friend here forgets that in London, we don't generally take complete strangers' kids off them 'for a quick cuddle' on the tube . And wow, 10 years eh? That's fantastic, hope you're doing something nice to celebrate.

Kalikaroo your baby sounds very sensible to me, I'm not sure I respond to midwife's prodding either and get flashing! We got one freaky face on shot of one twin so know what you mean - funny isn't it? Oh and lucky you having preggy best mate too - all my London lot are still out on the lash every night, and those with babies live miles away. It'll be really nice to have someone to go through it all with - not many people you can talk to about piles, when the time comes, let's face it!

Big hello to everyone else I've missed and hope you're all doing well / wrapping up warm / starting to resemble Xmas baubles (or is that just me?)
x

So then folks, see below - nice to know I can rely on my intuition haha. Scan went well apart from the fact that it took a whole hour to get her to co-operate with a fire alarm at the hospital in the middle! I was lucky that someone else must have cancelled so the stenographer had no-one else coming in. Photo rubbish though

Oh bugger, forgot in my excitement how smileys come out as that sad blue face. Not really a big enough reason to post a sad face, feel sill now

skiingone · 25/11/2008 17:41

Hi girls!

Barbarella - I may run into you in Chelsea & Westminster as I see my OB Keith Duncan there. Oh, yes, triple prams...I didn't even think they made them. Well...limited choice is sometimes a good thing.

Flirty - so glad you can feel the little kicks. It's such a special feeling, but they make me feel guilty when I'm eating a pain au chocolate or a piece of chocolate

Kalikaroo - glad about the good scan! I think your baby is very clever and knew that someone is having a look. Think about it, would you show your private parts if someone you don't know was looking. Glad it's doing well.

My skiing friend who lives in Munich and is a pilot for Virgin Atlantic just got grounded for being 3 months pregnant and now has to do office work in London which she hates. I'll see her tomorrow in Gatwick and will tell her that I'm pregnant too - that should cheer her up. I'm already making plans to share a babysitter while we are both skiing...

Binky - you must be getting so many kicks from 4 legs now! Yes, I can't believe it but it's almost 10 years since my wedding day. We will be celebrating in the Alps hopefully with some snow and blue skies.

Daisy - your DH sounds lovely! I think it's important for the partners to make us feel attractive at the moment when we probably don't really feel it.

Hugs to everyone X
