First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

hi all,
stretch and sweep sounds like one of karate kid's exercises. wonder whether any of the rest of you have been feeling sick at all? have been feeling nauseous for about 2 days, periody pains, feeling crampy in back like i need to go to the loo and feeling a bit blerrgh. it weird as haven't felt sick at all throughout pregnancy, and can't find it as a symptom of labour anywhere?

hurrah for mat leave for those of you about to start. make sure you all get some rest and well as running about like mad things nesting.

i have got a LOT more tired recently, have to drag myself out to take dog for a walk.

ChocEclair · 28/03/2009 15:55

Happy Due date to me!!!!
Well, I have had an interesting morning for once!

I was feeling concerned that I hadn't felt pip move much at all yesterday and still hadn't this morning, so decided to ring MLU. They said to come in. I have been thoroughly checked and have been on that CTG monitor thingy for 35 mins.

Basically baby is fine, (plenty of accelerations with movements, 140-160 HR), I am fine (BP, pulse, temp etc) BUT it does not look like things will be happening naurally! Baby has now gone back to back, and the head is not even in my pelvis, which is very unusual apparently at full term. She didn't think baby would be coming out 'that way'!

I am to go back tomorrow to go on the monitor again, and then keep my AN appointment on Monday. I will need to see the 'consultant' later in the week if still in same position as it's really dangerous to go into labour with head floating around (in case the cord comes first I think). She thinks I will most likely either be induced or have a CS next week!

I'm relieved that the end is in sight and reassured that baby is OK - must be too comfy in there!

Hope the rest of you are having a bit more luck!

Bicnod · 29/03/2009 20:22

ChocEclair · 30/03/2009 11:31

bicnod - yey! you will love ML. Make sure you laze around, eat biscuits and watch loads of DVDs! How much longer have you got left?

Been to mw again today (40+2) - the head is now 1/5 engaged and I am having mild tightenings. MW has booked strech and sweep for next Sunday but hoping I will have had it by then! If not I will be induced a week today!

Thank God the end is in sight! - I am so fed up it's unreal! Grumpy grumpy grumpy! . I am the only lady from my antenatal classes who hasn't had her baby now! I know it will be worth the wait in the end though!

Nothing from daisyj - I bet she is cuddling her baby right now!

pinkadink · 01/04/2009 16:59

Hi All

Well I've been off on maternity leave for a couple of weeks now and loving it. Have been surprisingly busy meeting family and friends, baking various goodies, stocking up the freezer with home made lasagne, chilli, casserole etc., shopping, cleaning the house and generally just getting things organised. The nesting has definitely kicked in . Think I need to have a little breather so haven't done too much today except watch TV and catch up on mumsnet.

Was at midwife two weeks ago and baby was two to three fifths engaged so looking good. Going back tomorrow (38 weeks) so will hopefully still be moving in the right direction. I've been getting lots of braxton hicks and they have been getting a bit more uncomfortable rather than just tightenings but think baby is still quite comfy in there for the moment.

Looks like we'll have some more babies on here over the next few days though. ChocEclair glad your baby's head has engaged now. Keep us updated with your progress - not long to go either way - how exciting . Think you may be right about Daisyj having had her baby.

Lara hi and welcome . Hope you had a good catch up with your mum.

Bicnod how are you enjoying your first week of maternity leave?

Skiingone had a look at your pics and Marianna is just gorgeous .

Hi to everyone else. Hope you and your bumps/babies are all well.

Elpis · 01/04/2009 20:54

Hello everyone - 37 weeks tomorrow. I can't believe I'm full term. Still a week to go at work and I wish I were looking forward to maternity leave - I tend to fret and won't enjoy sitting around waiting. At least the first few days are Easter hols so I won't be on my own. Having trouble letting go, partly because my replacement at work is highly ambitious. So am I, but...

Plus I can't tell whether I'm getting Braxton-Hicks contractions or if she is just testing the walls of her home. Should I be able to?

ChocEclair - glad the baby is engaged. Has anyone had a "show" yet?

People asked about the breastfeeding class ... in the end I decided to let my husband have Sunday afternoon at home, but I may make him watch the DVD they gave us! The idea is that if you're having trouble getting the baby to latch on in the middle of the night you can watch it and keep trying. The thing that stayed with me was the importance of holding her in the right position. Backache sets in v quickly if you don't, even with a doll.

pinkadink · 03/04/2009 10:31

Elpis yeah getting to 37 weeks does seem a real milestone and makes the birth seem all the more real . It did seem a bit strange leaving my job for someone else to do (I'm a bit of a perfectionist), but since I've been off I've barely given it a thought and once baby is here I think I'll think about it even less. Just try to plan lots for your first few weeks maternity leave to keep you busy.

The best way I can describe Braxon Hicks is my whole tummy goes really hard. At first they didn't really feel of anything but now they're sometimes a bit uncomfortable like period pains. I also tend to get them when I've exerted myself doing something like climbing a flight of stairs.

Waves to everyone else .

ChocEclair · 03/04/2009 11:29

Hi girls!

Congrats to everyone just going on ML - enjoy it while you can and try to fit in lots of lovely relaxing things to do!

I'm now 6 days overdue and no sign of baby wanting to make an appearance whatsoever! I'm pretty sure they will be inducing me come Monday! Feel like I want to just hibernate and can hardly walk, bend or roll over as bump is so massive and hard!!!

Still, only 3 more days MAXIMUM!

teeheelaydee · 04/04/2009 08:30

Oh ChocEclair was hoping to check in to some baby news - you must be so fed up by not.

Elpis I'm sure you will fill your maternity leave with stuff and try and enjoy the peace. I have actually loved having the time to prepare for baby and have indulged in seeing friends and pampering myself and sometimes just snoozing - bliss! Like pinkadink my bump goes rock hard when have a BH - a very strange sensation, I also find baby moves quite often when it's finished so I'm not sure that he/she likes them much either!

Hello to everyone else - 40 weeks exactly for me today. Saw MW this week - baby is engaged but has wiggled round to the side a bit - again! So time on fitness ball for me! Trying to just carry on as normal so as not to get impatient but am noticing that am alot more tired and need to force more sitting down time!

Elpis · 04/04/2009 09:49

mizzannie - I've been feeling a bit nauseous too. Even though I think she's moved down, I'm getting lots of indigestion, particularly after eating fish. The Braxton-Hicks are bound to annoy your stomach and oesophagus.

Thanks for the reassurance over maternity leave! I'm not going to take her into the office but want to invite colleagues round on a couple of evenings, particularly as some of them have knitted her clothes and generally endured me whingeing about hugeness etc.

Good luck ChocEclair!

girlylala0807 · 05/04/2009 22:21

OMG,

I dont remember ever being this bored ever!!!

I now spend way to much time on MN, no time reading for exams and cleaning places that dont really need cleaned.

Im not even overdue yet!

Anyone else the same?

mizzannie · 06/04/2009 15:12

hey all
no baby yet - just had my sweep at 40+2. not half as bad as i thought it would be. it's uncomfortable but not what i'd call painful. have you had yours yet choceclair?

midwife said i'm 1.5 cm dilated and felt the head and seemed quite pleased all in all. another booked for fri in case this does nothing. now feel quite crampy and bit of bleeding but not much.

elpis hope the nausea has settled, it's not very nice is it?

hope the rest of you are all doing well. i have been taking the dog on so many walks she keeps looking at me as if i'm crazy. have this feeling that have to keep moving!!

lara27 · 06/04/2009 16:01

Hi all,

My baby seems to want to come early (I'm 38+3) as my waters broke yesterday! Hadn't had any contractions then so had to go to the hospital to be checked and all seems to be ok, the contractions started this morning but still pretty infrequent/irregular and still bearable so I fear I'm in for a long haul! have to go to the hospital tomorrow morning for "augmentation" (different to induction apparently) if the contractions are not regular by then... joy! Meanwhile I am pottering around the house not able to settle to doing anything useful!

ChocEclair · 06/04/2009 17:14

teehee - anything yet?

lara - very exciting! 38+3 is considered term really isn't it so they won't have any worries about baby. Good Luck!

girly - yes I can totally sympathise with the boredom (wait til you go 9 days over due! lol!)

mizzannie - glad your sweep went well - sounds like things will kick off for you very soon! In fact you're prob in labour right now!

MW couldn't even do my sweep yesterday as cervix was too high. She says the head's not even engaged! She immediately booked induction on weds 9am when I will be 40+11 and she doesn't expect anything to happen naturally before then!

I was very very down yesterday but feeling a little better today - got a lovely bouquet of flowers off friend and blubbed (surprise). I'm nervous about the induction and being in hospital but I guess the prize at the end will be worth it!

Bicnod · 06/04/2009 18:00

Hey girls - I'm 37 weeks today so considered full term... woo hoo come on baby bicnod out out OUT!

Lara - how exciting! Keep us posted...

ChocEclair and Mizzanie keep us posted as well - I reckon we're going to be baby-tastic on this thread soon

ChocEclair sorry you're feeling down at least you know that something will DEFINITELY be happening on wednesday at the latest... will keep fingers crossed that baby CE decides to put in an appearance earlier...

Loving maternity leave now - doing lots of gardening and pottering around. Unfortunately can't sleep in very late as my side goes numb if I stay in bed for more than a few hours at a time I'm SO looking forward to sleeping on my back again...

Hi to everyone else x x

teeheelaydee · 06/04/2009 18:06

No nothing here yet. Wasn't too bored until everyone in RL keeps going on and on about how they think I'm going to be overdue (lovely - must all their medical training ) So like the rest of you getting a bit fed up now.

Lara - that all sounds exciting - good luck - hope to hear some news soon - you may even beat choceclair - am actually a little

Good luck for Weds - choceclair - just keep your eyes on the prize!! Might not have a chance to post tomorrow, so hopefully next time I look you will be a Mummy

mizzannie- thanks for the reassurance about a sweep - mw has arranged to come and see me a week today if I haven't popped by then and was dreading it.

teeheelaydee · 06/04/2009 18:08

Hi Bicnod - x-posts- know what you mean about going numb from sleeping on side. I have also been in the garden but have mainly been watching DP while reading the Sunday paper

ChocEclair · 08/04/2009 08:40

Just a quick message to let you know I'm off for my induction today. At 40+11 I am sooooooo ready to meet my baby!

Hope everyone is ok and wondering if any more of us have popped????

I'll be back in a few days with a little announcement I hope!

daisyj · 08/04/2009 08:53

Wow, how exciting - loads of almost babies . Well, here we have an actual baby: Maya Celine, born at home, 12.07 am, 1 April (yes, I did TRY to push her out before she became an April fool), weighing 8lb 4oz. Labour and birth were in equal measure lovely and painful and scary and exhilarating. Lewisham community midwives are incredible - I had to have a little cut after 2 hours of pushing, to get Maya's big head out of my small body, but by that point I was practically grabbing the scalpel myself!

Can't wait to read everyone else's birth news - and especially best wishes to CE, who should have her baby before the day is out.

xx to all.

D

mizzannie · 08/04/2009 09:07

congrats daisyj! how exciting and what a beautiful name. am really pleased for you.

choceclair - good luck am keeping everything crossed for you.

daisyj · 08/04/2009 09:14

Thanks, mizzannie .

Oh, and pics on my profile

mizzannie · 08/04/2009 09:21

what a beauty she is!! looks just like a maya. you look so happy.
i am slowly going mad waiting - 4 days overdue now and seems like first sweep has come to nothing. really excited to meet this little one but feeling gutted that nothing seems to be happening. grrr.

teeheelaydee · 08/04/2009 11:54

She is so beautiful, gorgeous and look at all that lovely dark hair. Well done DaisyJ and Mr DaisyJ. Your comments about labour are amongst the most reassuring that I've come across.

Feel your frustration Mizzannie and I've not even reached D-Day yet.

Good Luck CE

skiingone · 08/04/2009 12:34

Congratulations daisyj. Maya is just wonderful! You both look great!

Choceclair - good luck for today and waiting for the announcement!

littleduck · 08/04/2009 16:52

Daisyj - huge congrats, Maya is beautiful and you look wonderful as well! So pleased to hear all went well and that you had a good experience

CE - thinking of you and hoping all is going smoothly with the induction, looking forward to hearing news of little one's arrival.

Lara assume your little one must have arrived by now, looking forward to news from you too.

And thoughts to anyone else who is at term or overdue who I've forgotten - fingers crossed for all of you!

Bicnod - how are you my dear, hope all well with you and that you are enjoying mat leave still.

Started mat leave last Fri, 37+2 today, woke in the night with what felt like awful period pains and felt as if my tummy was going hard from time to time. Wondered if this was it but everything settled down again and went back to sleep after a while. No major pain today, not even any particular niggles. Saw GP this morning to check on my very random blood pressure and she said I have gone from 1/5 engaged last week to 4/5 engaged today - GP thought that head coming down might have been what was going on last night.

Hope baby will stay put until after Easter and ideally until at least end of next week - have lots of baby stuff to collect from my mum over the weekend and have no kitchen at all in my flat at present but new one should be in by next Fri. Buggy, carseat and cot arrived today so at least Microduck will have somewhere to sleep and can be brought home from hospital safely even if he or she puts in an early appearance!

Sorry for wittering on - ages since I've posted so slight verbal (or should that be digital as this is typed?) diarrhoea!

best wishes to everyone

Littleduck xx
