First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Thanks Brightsideoflide , i am fine thankyou and looking quite pregnant also! Yes feel much better now im coming into the 2nd trimester! Sickness is going but still feeling quite tired!

Jools1 · 29/10/2008 14:31

CE - your bump looks a tenth of the size of my pre-pregnancy belly

I'm not even sure if I will get a proper bump, being overweight - maybe I shall just stay looking increasingly fat for the next 30 weeks !!

frekkles · 29/10/2008 16:54

hello hello, i'd like to welcomed into your expanding bosoms, I'm 34, from scotland and expecting my first on April 24th! x

evs34 · 29/10/2008 20:37

went shopping today and got some lovely maternity clothes from m and p. also some mat bras in m and s and have grown from a b to a d cup!!! amazing.

chocolateeclair - your bump looks lovely. i will have to try and put some pics on - is it easy to do?

think the tiredness is lifting though i suffered with my 4th migraine of this pregnancy thismorning - never had them before. small price to pay though i suppose.

cant wait for james bond tomorrow though we will prob go on fri - preceeded by nandos chicken, chips, coleslaw and a fat coke - yummy. my appetite has grown a lot.

our babe is called maggot - strange but quit cute i think. no movements felt yet but good heart beat and lots of movements on the doppler.

would be good to see everyones bumps. also glad im not the only one getting rubbish sleep and getting up to wee severl times a night - this is suppposed to get better i thinks/ hope!!

happy halloween for tomorrow. must try and get some sweets for the horrid little trick or treaters! xxx

Kalikaroo · 30/10/2008 09:09

Morning everyone! Hope you're all having a good day so far

I was just wondering how many of you have started feeling baby movements? I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and haven't really felt anything. The reason I ask is that my mother was saying last night that "I should definitely be feeling something by now!", but my MW said it's perfectly normal not to feel anything until 20 weeks, especially if placenta is on the front (like me). I REALLY want to feel the baby move because I'm getting quite paranoid now that it's not ok and won't see the MW until the 24th Nov.

Ok - I'm probably being really paranoid and silly, I know. I just can't see to get rid of the worrying feeling....

Sorry for the morning moan!

ChocolateEclair · 30/10/2008 10:42

thanks for all the kind comments about my bump! - yes it takes just a few mins to put one on!

kalikaroo - I am almost 19 weeks and haven't felt any movements yet either. I'm not worrying at all as my pg book says 18-22 weeks. I also think my placenta might be at the front as I can hear it on the doppler.

evs - enjoy the film. I can't wait!

welcome freckles - any bump yet???

BinkyB · 30/10/2008 13:39

Hello new bumps! CE love the photo, my bump is similar size I think to yours, I think. I would post a photo but in the only ones DH has taken so far I am butt naked - he was very naughty snapping me when I am engrossed in my bio-oiling. I will get some fully clothed ones taken soon and post for comparison so you can see what 2 little beans look like in a bump!

Kalikaroo my MW said 22 weeks for first time mums, according to her only 2nd babies have any chance at all of you feeling it before then so don't worry (like we can help ourselves?!) if you've not felt anything. It's really early still.

I had a really lovely couple of hours this morning, my friend put me in touch with a mate of hers who has 5 month old twins. Ahh has made me even more excited, they were adorable and chuckled to themselves in a way that just made me melt. She had lots of useful tips for me too - and has also made me realise a bit that I really need to look after myself, and stop worrying about work etc. Just feel so guilty about not pulling my weight in such a small company, but sure I'd feel a hell of a lot worse if anything happened to the twins. Doesn't bear thinking about.

And everyone I love those baby-to-be names! Great they are all so different and all so personal.

Nearly the weekend - the countdown starts here, right?

daisyj · 30/10/2008 13:41

evs - you've stolen my diet! I love that meal. We go to the cinema on the Greenwich Peninsula sometimes and they have a Nando's there. I'm a bit addicted to fat coke at the moment. Have had a thing for sugary drinks since beginning of pg, particularly Coke. I try not to have more than 2 or 3 a week but it keeps calling to me! Lol at maggot

CE - you still look very svelte - I'm afraid my bump is a bit more podgy than yours . I'll try to post pics in the next few days - just need to get organised.

kalikaroo - don't worry - you wouldn't necessarily be feeling anything by now. All I've felt is that 'bubbly' feeling I was talking about, and it really depends on where placenta is, and lots of other things, like CE says.

CE - I'm intrigued - how do you know it's your placenta you can hear? I can identify Bo's heartbeat and a kind of 'whump, whump' noise, which I assume is Bo flailing about. What does the placenta sound like (or is that the 'whump'?)

Hi everyone else, and especially to the newbies. It's lovely that it's getting so busy on here.

xx

skiingone · 30/10/2008 14:32

Hello girls!

Wecome and congrats to frekkles! CE - love your bump pics!
I think I'm similar size in the morning and then blow out in the evening. Haven't made any pisc of the bums yet. Also realised that with this new computer I don't have any programm that allows me to resize pics and save old full size pics. Tried but can't download my normal large photos. Will have to play with it and see if I can work it out.

Binky - glad you met someon with little twins, this would be a great contact for you. Look after yourself.

littleduck · 30/10/2008 21:09

Hi everyone and extra big hi to the newbies!

Here we go with my THIRD attempt to type this message - tried to post at work just before I left and firewall blocked it, tried again just now and computer crashed and so trying once more - hope it works this time.

Loving hearing about people's bumps and baby names- CE your bump looks lovely and neat! Still no sign of a bump for me but then the lower bit of my tummy always sticks out a bit so it's probably hard to tell!

DP and I call our baby Micro. The name came about when I first found out I was pregnant and said something about him or her being the size of a microdot! The name Microdot stuck and somehow it got shortened to Micro; bit mad really as he or she really isn't all that micro any more!

Evs34 and daisyj - the Nando's dinner sounds yummy! I think there may be a Nando's near to my local cinema so will definitely have to give it a go if we are down there some time.

Binky - how lovely that you have met someone who has twins too, so nice to have someone to share similar experiences with.

Brightside - glad to hear you are feeling a bit better now

Know just what everyone means about lack of concentration at work. I have to charge my time throughout the workday in 15 minute units - unfortunately we don't have a charge code for 'pregnant and completely unable to settle to anything'!

Got nuchal test results back - apparently my odds of Downs are 1:1,600 - not as good as Flirty's but hey, I'll take 'em!

Sorry to anyone I've missed, hope you are well

Littleduck xx

BrightSideOfLife · 31/10/2008 10:57

Good Morning all,

Oooooooh...Nando's...my favourite. I am normally a Lemon & Herb girl but quite like the new Mango & Lime (It might not be that new...I don't get out much )

Has anyone else had a...er..growth spurt lately? I have grown two bra sizes in a week! I was originally a conservative A cup...so this a rather interesting 'development'! I never, ever thought I would be trying on D-Cups!

A special hello to Maggot, Micro, Pip, Plum, Bo, Slug & Lettuce (And all the other bumps!)

heverhoney1 · 31/10/2008 11:29

has anyone heard the news today about drinking?? It is very confusing!!! I know some people do drink throught pregnancy and I have no problem with this. But I have not fancied it and have not missed it so just stayed away. But now they say that may be making baby LESS healthy!!! What to do what to do??

Am going out with friends tonight - do I ignor the queasyness that the thought of wine gives me right now (I know - Strange I loved a glass before!!!) and force a glass down or do I just stick to the OJ or appletizer that I have grown so used to??

FlirtyThirty · 31/10/2008 12:00

Hello ladies - and welcome new girls!
I'm back from a few days away and touch wood for the last 48hrs my nausea and vomiting has really started to improve! Thank the Lord! I'm 15wks today...so there's hope for those still waiting for it to ease off...I feared I may be one of the unlucky few to be sick til the bitter end. I think going away helped though as I didn't have to worry about work and housework and cooking...very relaxing!

Anyway..lots to catch up on now I'm back - emails coming out of my ears! Hope you're all doing good...and Littleduck - very pleased to hear your nuchal results...it's a great relief!

Chat soon...Flirty x

Morning girls!

Littleduck - it's a great result! Very glad for you.

Flirty - glad you're feling better.

Brightside - I think I had this fast growth about 1 month ago I'm normaly between B&C cups, but I recon I'm definitely D now if not more and also seem to have gotten much wider in my ribs...

heverhoney - I was never realy sick and had mild pg symptoms in the first trimester so I never gave up drinking some wine. I've been having half a glass of wine about 2-3 time a week if I felt like it. There were about 2 weeks when I didn't want any, so I didn't have any. My OB recommended red wine over white ( don't know why) and said that actually up to 2 glasses of wine are ok, but I never had that much since I got pregnant. So I'll just continue then...

Hello to everyone else I missed!
xx

evs34 · 31/10/2008 15:39

hello to all expanding bumps and boobs!!
hope everyone well today, cannot wait for james bond tonight though i have to confess i am probably lookin forward to my tasty chicken more!!

as far as alcohol goes i think the odd glass here or there is not going to harm. we would all go crazy if we stuck to every rule on every food type. the odd G and T is heaven as far as i am concerned.

so glad its friday. have fun xxx

lolianja · 31/10/2008 16:15

I'm a bit worried, I'm getting increasingly nasty Braxton Hicks. Been feeling slightly twinges for about a week, but they're getting more frequent and quite nasty now. Bearable - I should clarify that I'm not in agony and they're not regular or anything like that. But I'm concerned. Should probably call the hospital in a bit, just to be on the safe side.

daisyj · 31/10/2008 16:43

Hi all

Binky - lol at Slug & Lettuce. X-posted with you yesterday but glad you've met somone with twins - how lovely to have someone ahead of you to compare notes with

littleduck - great test results - sounds like we've all been really lucky so far. I think mine are the worst at 1:840, but not too bad for 36, I believe

loli - are you sure it's braxton hicks not just bad round ligament pain? It does sound like BH if they are getting more frequent and stronger. I'd def. call midwife, though, if they are strong enough to be worried. I have heard of people saying they had BH this early, though, so I guess it happens to some people. Hope you can relieve your anxiety before the weekend.

I've been having a couple of glasses every couple of weeks, but haven't fancied it the last week or so. I think I read that they weren't sure whether those results might also be because most women who drank moderately (rather than excessively or not at all) while pg tended to be from more affluent backgrounds too, and they hadn't weighted the results to take that into account. I think if you don't fancy it you shouldn't have it, and if you do then a couple of glasses won't do you any harm

xx

evs34 · 31/10/2008 17:19

lolianja - best to call your antenatal unit or mwife i think. best to be on safe side. x

frekkles · 31/10/2008 17:30

no bump as such, just a bigger belly than usual that i can't pull in when i catch my reflection in a window.

hello hello. think i've been feeling bambino today. feels like a minature potholer tap tap tapping on walls trying to find the way out. keep expecting to hear a teeny little "hello???"

skiingone · 31/10/2008 19:25

lolianja - I didn't think that BH are supposed to be nasty, but I don't really know. Better contact a gp or a midwife. x

ChocolateEclair · 01/11/2008 12:13

hi girls

evs - I have to admit a confession! Your Nando's idea sounded so nice we went after the Bond Film also! (I'm not stalking you honest !?!?!). Had the VERY SPICY peri-peri chicken and it was delicious! The film was great as well so a good night was had by all!

lolianja - I would ring the midwife as well - just to be on the safe side. Hope you're ok.

Might be TMI here but is anyone else really constipated? I have been to H&B and got some prune juice but it tastes absolutley foul. Hope it works though as I'm not feeling fab!

I'm not drinking any alcohol at all - I don't particularly miss it and just felt it wasn't worth it! I don't drink very often when not pg anyway.

heverhoney1 · 01/11/2008 17:09

We have also just been to see bond and then tucked into Nandos mmmmmmm.

Went out with the girls last night and I just could not bring myself to go beyond OJ. I am taking it as a sign that I am not supposed to. Having said that I think if I suddenly really start fancying a glass I am not going to kill myself to avoid it.

CE- OH yes I have that problem!! have had it right from the start and no matter what I do its not helping. Midwife just said to make sure I drink loads!!

Jools1 · 01/11/2008 18:15

I've never been to Nandos !! May just have to try it now

Have just established that St Ives has a cinema, so we shall go one evening whilst we are there for our long weekend next week

Re constipation - best things I've found are muesli, grapefruit juice and drinking lots and lots of water I am managing to at least keep the problem manageable that way. Apparently you should avoid bananas as they bind things up

Elpis · 02/11/2008 11:28

What works for me is two prunes before breakfast - the soft Agen ones that come in packets with pix of juicy plums - and an espresso in the morning.

Is anyone else getting more energy now? About time!

saz007 · 03/11/2008 08:58

Morning ladies,

I have my scan this afternoon so I'm nervous and also excited. I can't wait to see what's in there! But I just don't know how I'm going to cope with a full bladder! I just hope my appointment's on time, I dont think I could go that long without having to pee

I also went to see Bond on Friday - top top top film

I'm also not drinking alcohol at all, I just don't fancy it - which is not like me at all!!
