First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Hope the scan goes well Saz

I have another 8 days to wait for mine

Kalikaroo · 03/11/2008 09:43

Good luck with the scan Saz - I don't get my next one until the 24th (I'll be 21 weeks)...seems like an eternity away!!

Hope everyone's having a good day so far.

I really have to get motivated and do some work today!

ChocolateEclair · 03/11/2008 10:04

oooo good luck saz - let us know how it goes! and good luck with the bladder!

Mine is on thursday and am excited rather than anxious at the moment! I cannot wait to see pip!

ps. prune juice not working as yet any other suggestions???

BrightSideOfLife · 03/11/2008 11:06

I also joined the Nando's band wagon this weekend, with a yummy lunch on Saturday. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Bond though

CE I am also struggling and I do find that some probiotic yoghurt helps a little...

good luck at your scan saz hope all goes well!

Is it too early to feel the baby yet? I have been getting little 'flutters' or 'tickles' in my lower abdomen. It feels like someone is gently tickling a spot inside with long nails, it stops and then a few seconds later it starts again a few centimeters away (but in the same area.) I have felt it a few times - mostly when I am relaxed and lying in bed or on the sofa...(Which admittedly was most of this weekend )

daisyj · 03/11/2008 13:54

Yup, I had Nando's last night too - it was sooo delicious. Half a chicken, salad and a few of DH's chips. Bet Nando's PR would love to take a look at this thread!

Saz - good luck! looking forward to hearing your scan news.

CE - I found probiotic yoghourt works too. I was pretty bad for a few weeks, but a bit better now. Also, tinned prunes, nicer than plain prune juice and more effective, I think, and hopefully you only need three or four at breakfast.

skiing - how's the hip pain. Hope it's not SPD.

Brightside - sounds like the baby to me! I started feeling things about 4 weeks ago, so not too early.

Spent the whole weekend rushing around and trying to get things a bit more sorted in the flat - finally have our wardrobes, and it was lovely getting clothes out of storage, and I found I have quite a lot that will still fit me. Then the car broke down (again) in B&Q car park and we limped back to Kwik Fit to get them to replace the bit of exhaust that had fallen off. Think we will have to replace old banger before Bo's arrival. There are some really good deals around at the moment, £169 down then £169 a month for a Golf, or £150 a month to lease a Mercedes A class, apparently. I've never had a new car, so I'm sure it would be a pleasant change. DH is so embarrassed by our ancient battered Fiesta he's threatening to start driving with a bag over his head. Bo has just administered to big kicks, so I am sensing he-she approves

xx

daisyj · 03/11/2008 13:55

Oh, and loli - are you OK?

BinkyB · 03/11/2008 14:16

Hope there's been some reassuring news for you Loli?

Afraid I have had a dire weekend of hospital myself, was sick 8 times in 6 hours and the last two (look away if you're eating) were just blue/gren bile, like puking up Persil. Phoned hospital and they said to go straight in, they were excellent. Good old NHS, was seen very quickly and on a drip before you could say higher rate tax payer. All very lovely to me and they and DH kept my spirits up while I kept filling up sick bowls. Was eventually discharged after 12 hours when given some anti-sickness drugs - nervous about taking them but ran out of options, have googled the drug name and looks fine anyway. Gah, still feel grotty though. Had to go back in yesterday for more tests and more hydrating and today just sloping around and getting over what I can only compare to shock. Being a bit of a wet lettuce if I'm honest.

So, that was my weekend! Anyway I called in sick today and got the one useless one of my colleagues. Quite A Creature. Anyway told him all my woes, that I had spent all weekend in hospital and on a drip I thank you and this is the email he sent to all staff:
"Just to let you know (Binky) is a bit poorly so won't be in today. Nothing too serious as I understand it, just a bit dehydrated from being sick yesterday."

Now is that me, or does that make me look like a right royal skiver? Being paranoid or is he trying to kick a sickly pregnant lady while she is down? I know he has Machievellian tendencies but this takes the (water) biscuit!

Ladies I envy you your constipation if it means you have food in your bellies!

Daisy my DH is on car duty too. Amazing how that and buggy have come to top of the list - er, we need somewhere to live first! But you know, they like things with wheels... :-)

daisyj · 03/11/2008 15:27

Oh, Binky, how hideous. You poor thing - I'm not surprised you're in shock. What an idiot your colleague is - and that email reflects badly on him, not you! You should take tomorrow off if you need to, as well - you must be feeling awful. Hope the drugs work soon, and I'm sure they are fine - they don't take any risks with pregnant women these days.

What, you can't live in a car ? We probably would be if DH had his way. Although, to be fair, he is a motoring and motorsport journalist, and sold a very cute car four years ago to buy my engagment ring. Ever since then he has had to drive clapped-out sardine cans, which is a bit like working on Vogue and wearing shoes from Shoe Express, so I can kinda see where he's coming from (not that I work on Vogue, but I would be utterly if I had to go out in horrible shoes every day).

BinkyB · 03/11/2008 15:30

Big ahhhh for the man who put his true love ahead of his motor - what a gem!

Looking at the cars DH is considering, it will be bigger than any house we can afford..

Still umming and ahhing about tomorrow & work, might just go in for few hours across middle of the day. Only so much Loose Women I can bear (approx. six seconds worth).

Jools1 · 03/11/2008 15:31

Hope you are feeling better soon Binky - that sounds hideous I am giving your colleague a virtual slap as we speak

BrightSideOfLife · 03/11/2008 16:05

binky how horrible - I hope you are feeling a little better. How unbelievabley of your colleague...I'll join Jools with that virtual slap.

saz007 · 03/11/2008 16:10

Binky hope you're feeling better soon, it sounds like you've had a horrid weekend and your colleague sounds like a complete arse

Well I'm back from my scan and it went great!! There is actually a little guy (or girl) in there, so I'm not imagining it - hurray It was jumping about all over the place which made for some interesting pics! We paid for three (£6) but were given 5 as it was posing better towards the end of the scan - very nice sonographer
The gel was lovely and warm too, which had been a little worry of mine - didn't think I'd like freezing cold gel on my tummy too much!

The CRL was 6.1cm so that put me a little further on than I'd though, my EDD has moved to 15 May now.
I have my dates for my MSS and my 20 week scan now - all very exciting and becoming more real now!

We'll be telling DH parents tonight, it will be their first grandchild, so we're going to give them the scan pic and see how long it takes them to figure it out!!

Jools1 · 03/11/2008 16:31

Lovely news on the scan Saz It must be such a relief to feel able to tell people - I want to so much I feel I could burst sometimes

In exactly 8 days time more or less to the minute, I'll be just coming out of my first scan and meeting my best friend for a soft drink and a natter Little does she know we'll hopefully be talking babies

skiingone · 03/11/2008 16:32

Ohhh Binky - this must have been so nerve wracking!!! Hope the medicine will help and you'll be able to eat something nice ( and join our constipation club )

Your colleague is nasty... but your DH sounds lovely. We don't have a car at all, but wrecked a "street car" 2 weeks ago, so now waiting for the charge from them.

lolianja - hope you're ok with BH. Let us know if it settled.
saz - hope your scan went well!

The only thing that helps me at the moment with constipation is coffee with milk froth (cappuccino).
Unfortunately I'm finding it very painful to walk and to stand on one leg especially in the evening. I really hope it's not SPD and it will settle, will have a look for support bands or something and will talk to the ob next time.

Hello to everyone else I didn't mention!

daisyj · 03/11/2008 17:43

Saz - how exciting, so pleased for you. It's so much fun when you get to tell everyone .

skiiing - for you. Have you thought of trying acupuncture for pain relief?

Bicnod · 03/11/2008 18:17

Hello everyone - just back from a crazy six day holiday in Cornwall with my whole family, which included my 4 year old niece and 1.5 year old niece and nephew... OMIGOD how am I going to cope with a baby 24/7 they are KNACKERING!!!! It was great though... and my 4 year old niece has christened our baby-to-be Milo (Tweenies I believe).

Glad to hear all the good scan news... I've got an extra scan tomorrow to measure the length of my cervix as consultant worried it might be weak. Not sure what it will entail but hoping will be a chance to get a glimpse of the wee babbit again...

I've got a definite roundness in my tum now (15 weeks today) but still fitting into all my normal clothes...

Anyway - better run as off to pilates... determined to train my stomach muscles as much as possible before the baby stretches them beyond all recognition...

BrightSideOfLife · 04/11/2008 11:40

Congratulations saz on a great scan! Didn't you love that warm gel!

skiing am so sorry about that back pain - if the doc doesn't have any advise could you look into a chiropractor? I get one-sided hip pain that radiates down my leg if I am standing or walking alot during the day. I mentioned it to the midwife who put it down to ligaments stretching and suggested that I sit with my legs open facing the back of a high backed chair (like a dining room chair). I am not sure that it makes any difference though

bicnod sounds like you had a good holiday with your family - although other people's kids are always a scary wake-up call! Our close friends litte boy is now 15 days old and whilst he is so gorgeous I want to eat him up (In a cute gobble-gobble way, not a sinister cannibal way ) it is terrifying knowing what we are in for. 3 hours sleep on a good night? AAARRRGGGHHH....

Good luck for your scan today - look forward to hearing what it entails and how it goes.

Hello everyone else...hope you are having good Tuesdays

BinkyB · 04/11/2008 12:43

Daisy, Jools, Brightside, Saz thank you for sympathy and the virtual slaps - it helps! Feeling better today and getting some food down me at last.

Bicnod - hope your extra scan goes OK. Did you manage to find a pregnancy pilates class specifically or are they just tailoring it for you? have never done any but fancy giving it a go. From all the puking though, my stomach muscles are going to be like iron!

Skiingone - hope you get better soon, you have an extra incentive with your skiing I guess! Hope it isn't getting you down. Will think of some good DVDs for you if you like as after one day of daytime telly, I can't see how being laid up would be any fun at all otherwise!

Brightside - 3 hours?? and that's just one baby??

Jools1 · 04/11/2008 12:52

Re pilates - I've just been carrying on with my normal Body Balance class for now (a mixture of Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi). The instructor knows I am PG and has given me a sheet detailing alternatives for most of the moves - for the last couple of weeks, I've avoided one track where the exercises involve lying on your tum. My alternative is to be on all fours and do cat stretches instead, but until I have an obvious bump, I'm feeling a little embarrassed about being different.

My instructor reckons I should be fine (with modifications) for a good few weeks yet, but I may pay for a course of pregnancy pilates / yoga classes once I get to around 14 weeks

skiingone · 04/11/2008 14:01

Helo girls!

Binky hope you are feling better now!

Bicnod - how was the appointment? did you get to see the baby?
Sounds like a lovely trip you had. I try not to think how difficult this will be... and I really like my sleep. Don't know what I'll be doing without

By the way - did everyone here have an internal check up? I didn't, so far only baby scans, blood & BP checks. No check up below the belt...

I sent an e-mail to my ob about the walking problems and pelvic pain to see what he recommends. I don't see him till 20/11.
I'm thinking of visiting a chiropractor or a physio, maybe get some support belt and some excercises. I was just thinking how easy my pg was since I barely had any MS and here we go...Not sure I'll be skiing if this is not sorted.

XXXx

BinkyB · 04/11/2008 16:16

Where are you based Skiingone, I can't remember? If you are in the SW London crew there is a chirpractor in Barnes that my cousin went to and has recommended to me, apparently preggy ladies a speciality, also lots of twin pregnancies (so well used to seeing SPD as it is so common in twins pregnancies - not that we know it's that and obv. hoping it isn't but just so you know the background!). Really hope you can get it sorted, sure you will as you won't be the first with it.

skiingone · 04/11/2008 18:25

Thanks Binky xx

My OB got back to me saying that the symptomps are a sign of SPD...and recommended a chiropractor Ida Norgaard. Barnes is a bit far from me considering my decreasing mobility. I assume the one ob recommended has dealt with pg ladies before. Will try to get an appointment with them. Oh well, I guess all the troubles of pg are worth it in the end.

Xx

Bicnod · 04/11/2008 19:20

Hi everyone... scan went well, my cervix looks ok so won't need a stitch (so relieved). Apparently I'm at a higher risk of preterm labour but they will just keep an eye on things. The scan was an internal scan which is ok - not very dignified but not painful...

I got to see the baby - it's got really long legs the consultant asked if I wanted to know the sex and I was totally thrown - DH and I have decided not to find out but when faced with it I really really wanted to know! Managed to contain myself though... I think it's a boy as she said 'look away now then' when I said I didn't want to know, presumably it's more obvious with boys?!

I've FINALLY managed to persuade them to transfer all my care to Kingston Hospital (the scan today was there), so no more trekking over to Roehampton.. woo hoo

Binky - I'm just doing normal pilates, but the instructor knows I'm pg and gets me doing slightly different versions of some of the exercises. Still doing the ones on my front at the moment as no realy bump yet, but will stop soon I reckon...

Hope all is well with everyone - can't believe I'm 15+1 already - only 4+6 until halfway mark!!
