First time mums expecting Spring babies

FlirtyThirty · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Hello all,

First and most importantly - HAPPY BIRTHDAY BICNOD ! Hope you have a fantactic day and get spoilt rotten...

littleduck I am so sorry that you had a scare but am relieved that everything is OK. I hope work quietens down so you can take it easy a little bit. (And chat with us on MN of course )

I have just started the midnight-toilet runs, in the last two nights. I was hoping it was a temporary thing but I am not so sure We only have one bathroom downstairs (Our bedroom is upstairs) so it is a massive effort to get up in the middle of the night!

I have to admit that I do feel more energetic, but sleepy-tired at the same time...that probably doesn't even make sense!

flirty that is great news about your results - enjoy going public! I am finding it very weird that something that was so private is suddenly public knowledge! (Weird but nice!)

skiing your trip to Austria sounds really good, will you ski?

Hello to everyone els e- if i don't post again, have a lovely weekend!

BinkyB · 24/10/2008 17:23

oooh just time to join the birthday chorus - have a good one!

Hope everyone has a fun weekend as we enjoy watching our figures turn into pumpkins

Bicnod · 24/10/2008 18:22

Thanks for all the birthday wishes girls I've had a fab day which started with a much needed lie-in, then a wander around Claremont Gardens with my brother, sister-in-law and niece (she's 1 1/2 - very cute) to feed ducks and eat cake, have just had my hair cut at posh hair salon courtesy of DH and am going to be eating yum food and watching Sex and the City DVD (haven't seen it yet) tonight...

...tomorrow night is the BIG 30th birthday party where we tell all our friends that we're expecting mini bicnod I'm getting a bit nervous but really excited that FINALLY everyone will know why I've been so antisocial for the past 3 months!

Also very excited because I've promised myself a glass (or two) of champagne tomorrow night - woo hoo!!

Hi All

Just wondering if I can join you lovely ladies expecting your first babies. I'm currently 15+3 and due my first baby on the 16th April. Have been lurking for a while but too nervous to join this thread before 12 week scan as I had an early miscarriage in February - silly I know but didn't want to get think too much about being pregnant early on. Didn't really work though and the constant nausea and throwing up from weeks 6-12 did a pretty good job of reminding me! Thankfully that seems to have passed now apart from occasional nausea in the morning.

BinkyB · 26/10/2008 19:35

Hello pinkadink! Of course you can join, you'll get to 'know' us all very quickly I'm sure. Our chief topics so far have been food, puking, and maternity clothes - SO good to have some other people to chat to about all that stuff, not to mention as all the embarassing questions. So... welcome!

Afternoon all! Just realised that I haven't put my name on the list (doh - pregnancy brain... ).

I kept turning over and sleeping on my stomach last night by accident then waking up because it felt like I was squashing my bump!! Has anyone else been finding it difficult to get comfy at night?

My bump seems to have grown overnight again (maybe that's why it felt so uncomfortable?). I can definitely feel things stretching in there! You can't notice it too much while I'm dressed (I think!), but when I'm lying down it really sticks out now. Having said that, I'm sitting at my computer with my trousers undone!!

Jools1 · 27/10/2008 12:33

I do struggle with sleeping and toss and turn because I am so used to sleeping on my stomach - I'm not convinced it would do any harm at 9 weeks, but I just don't feel comfortable doing so, meaning I struggle to get comfortable and settled. However, I've always slept badly so am used to the sleep deprivation - just wish I could take Nytol every now and then to just zonk out for a night !

Kalikaroo · 27/10/2008 14:17

I know what you mean Jooles !

It's so annoying sometimes! - spent the first 12 weeks having to get up 3 or 4 times a night for a pee. Now that's settled down a bit I'm having problems getting comfortable. I try to go to sleep on my left side (I heard that was best), but keep waking up on my front!

I'm 17+3 at the moment and lying on the bump is starting to get a bit uncomfortable at night, though it seems ok if I do it during the daytime e.g. while reading....???

Oh the joys of being pregnant - all very bizarre! (Still can't get used to the idea that there's actually a little person in there!). Hopefully it'll seem more real when I can feel the baby moving around.

skiingone · 27/10/2008 16:23

Welcome pinkading! Congratulations!
The more the merrier!

Kalikaroo I'm due at same time and also not feeling any movements yet. Have a definite large bumb already visible and not really possible to hide ( unless I wear tent like tops). Though I was feeling something a few days ago, but not sure yet if these are movements or just gas.

I was planning to ski on my early season ski trips if I fit into anyone's ski pants ( cant' fit into mine), but over the last week I developed pelvis/ lower abdomen pain when walking especially in the second half of the day. Not sure it's normal, will tell the doctor next time if it doesn't improve, but don't think they can do much about it.

jools - I always slept on my stomach, but now it's impossbile. However I slept on it while the bump was small, don't think it can damage anything at that stage. Enjoy it for a few more weeks while you can!

Hello to everyone else!

daisyj · 27/10/2008 18:13

Hi pinkadink, and congratulations .

Jools - I know what you mean. Stomach is a favoured sleeping position for me, but in the last week or so I do feel a bit achy if I wake up in that position. that you're sleeping badly.

I have been feeling lots of flutters in the past few days, low down, like little bubbles. It's rather nice. Last night as I was about to drop off I was convinced Bo was moving around loads. A minute later I REALLY needed to pee. Went to the loo and there was almost nothing to pee, which confirmed my feeling that Bo was dancing on my bladder!

Can't remember if I said this before but we're calling it Bo as a friend of mine was telling me about her social worker cousin who visited a family with a child called Bojangles, and unfortunately the name has stuck . I think it's kinda cute, although DH insists on using the full name, which is a bit worrying!

littleduck · 27/10/2008 18:28

Hi Springmums

Welcome Pinkadink - many congratulations and glad to hear you are feeling better now after weeks 6-12.

Bicnod - hope your 30th party was fun and that you enjoyed the two glasses of fizz, were your friends thrilled to hear about mini Bicnod?

Jools/Kalikaroo - nightmare with the sleeping! I sleep mainly on my side and have no bump yet to get in the way if I do somehow end up on my front, still getting up 2/3 times in the night for a pee and sometimes can't get back to sleep for ages afterwards - like last night.......

Skiingone - hope your pelvic pain eases off

DP and I have a 'London mum' (my real mum lives in Gloucestershire and DP's mum sadly died from cancer 2.5 years ago) and we told her about Microduck at the weekend as we feel she will be an honorary granny really - she seemed so pleased to hear the news and wants to buy us lots of bibs as she thinks they will be very useful!!

Went out shopping yesterday, first time I've really been shopping other than supermarket since I found out I was pregnant. Bought some lovely rose scented body wash and some flat ankle boots for wearing under trousers later on when my high heels get too uncomfortable (which I'm told they definitely will - boo hoo!), they are sooooooo comfy.

Anyway, enough yattering from me - hope everyone is well today

Littleduck xx

Bicnod · 27/10/2008 19:24

Hello everyone

Jools/Kalikaroo/littleduck - I'm the same with the sleeping - up all the time to pee, can't get back to sleep and always end up sleeping on my front - I figure it won't do the baby any harm as I don't have a bump yet (and I'm doing pilates exercises on my front which my pilates teacher says is fine?!)

littleduck - the party was great everyone was over the moon about mini bicnod and I enjoyed my one and a half glasses of champers like you wouldn't believe...

I went into mothercare on friday afternoon for the first time (I had the day off work for my birthday), it was hilarious. I loitered in the doorway feeling like a fraud then marched to the back to look at the maternity bras. That freaked me out and I made a beeline for the exit and went and bought some perfume in Boots instead... what a wuss!!!

Hope you're all ok x x x

Bicnod · 27/10/2008 19:25

BinkyB · 28/10/2008 13:21

hi everyone! Am with you all on the lack of sleep, I was never a great sleeper anyway and really miss lying on my tummy.

Daisy I had some funny little bubbly (almost vibrating?) feelings last night and was going to ask if anyone had had similar - Skiing I wasn't sure either if that was 'quickening' or just wind! I've googled it and think from what I read that it was my little imps getting active. Yay!
Also LOVE the name Bojangles. My dad has 'christened' our twins Slug & Lettuce (as that's what they looked like on the first scans) and even more unfortunately, it has stuck. Anyone else got some fun names for their baby in the making?

Bicnod yes the bras are heedeeos but once in them, there is no looking back. So comfy! I've (well, DH has) splashed out on some gorgeous Hot Milk ones. One has little blue figures (like Dutch tiles if you see what I mean) on it an pink trim, nice to see someone has actually put some thought into it even though it's 'only' for PG ladies! They stock in Blooming Marvellous.

Kalikaroo with your update on the list for where you are giving birth I am now imagining you in a wooden hut, in the snow, in a dense pine forest, wolves outside, the works. Too much Hansel & Gretl as a child, d'you think...?

littleduck lucky you to have a London mum too! My mum & dad are coming to stay (from Cheshire) tonight and am hoping to entice them down to the big smoke for a few months to help with the babies.

BinkyB - we call ours Plum because that's the size the books said it was when we first started discussing it as a real person. It began as 'The Plum', but now just 'Plum'. Some of my friends are even now trying to talk me into using it as a real name if it's a girl. How very Gwyneth Paltrow

Kalikaroo · 29/10/2008 09:21

Morning everyone! Currently putting off starting work today because I soooooooooo can't be bothered! Is anyone else having serious problems getting motivated? It's a bit of a problem for me at the moment because I have to have a big project finished by Tuesday next week...and I'm already WAY behind.

I had a pretty good sleep last night, which is just what I needed. I didn't wake up on my front once and only had to get up to pee once the alarm clock had gone off! (sorry if TMI!! ). That's the first time since I got pregnant that I haven't been up in the night!

Nice to see you on the list springysunshine BinkyB - Luckily I'm living close to civilization so the hospital should be lovely and modern and clean...with hopefully only a few wolves outside

skiingone · 29/10/2008 11:57

Morning girls!
Hope everyone saw the snow last evening!

Welcome springyshine! Kalikaroo - Glad you are starting to sleep better!
I've been feelig very lazy from the beginnig, a bit better now. Can't aford to postpone my tasks - need to find a larger place and move before Christmas... we won't fit here with a baby. So if I don't find motivation for this I'll just be homeless before X-mas.

Have to start outing myself to the local friends this weekend, as over the last 2 weeks I really started to look pregnant and we are invited to dinner and drinks this Saturday, don't think will be able to hide anymore. It's kind of nice and comfortable to keep it to yourself, but what can you do...

Sorry, but HAVE to rant about my sister: everytime she calls or asks me to call her is just to tell me what I'm supposed to be doing and not supposed to be doing, like "are you mad driving on the mountain roads in the night in your condition", or I don't think you should be flying 3 weeks in a row", or after I asked to borrow her ski trowsers : you can't be seriously thinking about skiing, what if someone crashes into you!!!* and she refused to lend me her spare trowsers... I just told her last time that if she is calling to tell me what I'm supposed to do,she shouldn't bother at all... I know all risks and will make my decidions depending on how I feel. Sorry - no need to react to this, just needed to vent

laulau27 · 29/10/2008 12:12

Hi, I am 14 weeks pregnant and my due date is 28 April 09.. I will be going to Epsom hospital.. Can I be added to your list?!

BrightSideOfLife · 29/10/2008 14:01

Hello all!

Sorry I have been quiet over the last few days...work has been crazy.

I am doing well - very limited morning sickness, only when I am really tired. My tummy seems to have grown overnight - it wasn't there during the weekend but is quite noticable now. I was offered my first seat on the tube home last night. I can get used to that!

Welcome laura I am also 14 weeks (Due 1 May) and suddenly looking quite pregnant! How are you doing? Got that infamous 2nd trimester energy rush yet?

skiing good luck with telling your friends - it is lovely to have your little secret out in the open! about your sister! I know that everyone has their views on pregnancy but you should be allowed to continue doing things you are comfortable with!

kalikaroo great news about the lack of wildlife outside your hospital - I have to admit I had also pictured wild bears & wolves along the road to the hospital It is sooooo hard to be motivated at work - even worse now that everyone knows. People try to have these in-depth work conversations with me and I have to physically restrain myself from rolling my eyes...'Don't you know that I am pregnant and DON'T feel like working?'

welcome springyshine What a lovely name! (Yours I mean!!) Although Plum has a certain ring to it...naming any future child could be easy? You could use the same principle until you have a full fruit market We call our baby Limpet...started by a friend who was talking about this pregnancy right in the beginning and she said that this baby would hang in there like a limpet (I had a miscarriage in March)

Binky how great that you are starting to feel little bits of movement. I don't usually sleep on my stomach - usually sleep on my side, but find my hips are really achy if I sleep in my usual preferred position with one leg pulled up close to my body.

I feel like I am up half the night either trying to decide if I need the bathroom, or forcing myself to get up because I really DO need the bathroom! (Or drinking water....is anyone else just permanently desperately thirsty?)

bicnod I am really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday! I know what you mean about mothercare I was in there the other day buying a present for a friend's baby and I felt so self concious. More than if I hadn't actually even been pregnant!!

Hi littleduck am glad you have a London Mum and that she is excited about the baby. Your shopping trip sounds like fun!

hi daisyj I love Bo, how sweet! Bojangles has a certain ring to it

Wlecome pinkadink great to have you onboard....

This has turned into a marathon post, my fingers are tired from typing!! I know I have probably missed people so HELLO to anyone I have missed, hope you are all having a lovely day

ChocolateEclair · 29/10/2008 14:24

Hi everyone, and welcomed to te newbies! There are quite a few of us now aren't there!

Just got back from Amsterdam, which was really lovely, although cold. Got a few xmas pressies and stopped LOTS for hot chocolates etc! I wasn't sick on the fery either which was pleasing! lol!

I have posted my latest bump picture taken this morning! It would be nice if a few others would post one too for comparisons sake! hint hint!

ps. we call our baby "pip" as that was what the pg book said it was the size of when we first found out! Also, we were listening to the HB on the doppler and it sounds like a train - apparently that means it's a boy! lol!
