First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Yeah Brightside! So glad it went well and your concerns were allayed about DH. Sorry you had the ECG drama though...fingers-crossed for speedy results. Good to see they are taking good care of you and looking into any concerns so quickly.

Our nuchal measurement was 2.1mm and we opted for the combined blood test. I'm still waiting fo rthe results, but to be honest, every day that goes by makes me feel more positive about them as the midwife implied we'd hear by today/tomorrow if there was a problem.

So how big is Baby Brightside then? Mine's 6.6mm crown to rump....very little to have caused me so much trouble!

Oh, and think I will check out New Look sale and H&M this weekend. Thanks for the tip!

Hello lovely spring-mums-to-be...

How exciting that so many are up for a pre-christmas meet up - Flirty have you caught up on the thread? Can you make 13/14 December for mince-pies/mulled wine in Kingston?

I am SOOOOOOOOOoo tired at the moment - I keep waking up at 5.30am and then struggling to get back to sleep anyone else being a bit of an insomniac at the moment?

I still don't believe what's going on - I'm 13+2 with no bump and although it all felt real during the scan and for about a day or two afterwards it all feels very unreal again now... I'm in dire need of a bump or SOMETHING to force it to sink in!

Brightside - fab scan news, I hope all goes well with the ECG and that you don't worry too much while waiting. They can't be too worried if you don't discuss results for 2 weeks, hopefully that's a positive sign?? Anyway, thinking of you x x x

ChocolateEclair · 22/10/2008 18:14

Hi folks,

Sorry I have been rubbish at posting - just seem to have been mega busy!

kalikaroo - big well done on telling your boss - sometimes people surprise you! Will you make it public knowledge now?

BSOL - congratulations on your successful scan, it sounds amazing! Did you cry? I bet your dh feels like it's a bit more real now?

jools - I too am having the "I'm getting bigger by the hour" feeling today! I actually think I am getting bigger by the hour though! I put 3 lbs on overnight just like last time and bump had grown sure enough by this morning! Nothing fits me now except my maternity clothes boo hoo - thought my slouch jeans might have been good for a bit longer but I guess there is nothing to do but grin! Don't worry about it though as there isn't a great deal we can do is there!

I had a great day as the kids finally plucked up the courage to ask me if I was pg! Some stayed behind after class and said "now you mustn't be offended but we want to ask you something!" LOL! One then asked if she could be godmother!

Might not be around much as off to Amsterdam on Sunday for 3 days - can't wait! I think we have a bit of a fetish for the place on here! We are going on the ferry from Hull with P&O (2 for 1 offer) so should be lovely.

brettgirl2 · 23/10/2008 09:00

Hello everyone....

The clothes thing I think is just funny - I am much bigger at 15 weeks than another girl at work who is 17 weeks and she's quite envious that I can't fit into any of my clothes! Obviously I'm also quite jealous that she can haha. Maternity clothes are just great fun - after reading about ev's experiences I decided to attempt the cheap options first. I have a great skirt from H&M (unfortunately in the other colour didn't have my size) and some really foul polyester trousers from Next directory. Trousers are really hard because I'm 5'10 and most places only do one length. WHY are they all black? The only pair on Next directory that aren't are completely sold out in practically every size!

I STILL haven't decided whether to have the blood test for downs etc (we don't have nuchal scan here so I didn't have to decide earlier) and have MW appointment on Tuesday. The test just sounds so unreliable that I'm not sure there's much point.... But I'll be more scared about my 20 week scan if I don't have it I will probably accept age risk of 1 in 900 and leave it at that.

Jools, I'm very impressed with your exercise regime, I still get home from work and collapse in a heap. I think weight in pg is a law unto itself - I lost half a stone in the first trimester and now weight about the same as before - really strange that my clothes don't fit!!!

brettgirl2 · 23/10/2008 09:02

Oh and Jools - despite my weight loss I had to send some clothes to the back of my wardrobe after 8 weeks!

FlirtyThirty · 23/10/2008 09:27

Bicnod - I CAN make the mince pie meet up on 13/14th Dec! Hooray! I'll have had my 20 wk scan the previous week so hopefully I'll have actually accepted that I am going to have a baby by then!

My sickness is fading a little - still 1-2 a day but progress. I'm also feeling less tired in the evenings and am in desperate need of bigger bras!

Jools - If you're coming to the meet-up, please can you inspire me to do a fraction of the amount of exercise you are. I'd be proud if I even made it to the gym for a coffee!

Right...I MUST do lots of work today as no builders in the house so have some peace! Have a good one everyone...

Hello girls!

Very sorry for not posting lately, just had some family matters to deal with and got distracted. All better now.
Glad to read you are all progressing well and welcome to new girls!

Well I had my fetal anomaly scan already last Friday ( I know, very early at just about 16 weeks, normally it's around 20). So far all seems fine and it's a girl ( not a boy I was promised at the early scans).

I'm very proud to announce that over the last couple of weeks I started swimming regularily at the Swiss Cottage health centre which is very nice. Unfortunately my fitness level is nothing like yours jools. Just managing a few laps.

Blinky - you're not with Keith Duncan at the C&W by any chance?

So adding myself to the list:

March
Lolianja - EDD 2 March - Essex (but probably giving birth in Lancs)
ChocolateEclair - EDD 28th March - North Yorkshire
DaisyJ ? EDD 28 March ? Lewisham (home preferably)

April
skiingone EDD 3 April - Portland Hospital
BinkyB - EDD 7 April (but think will be earlier as twins) - Chelsea & Westminster
Evs34 - EDD 8th April - North Yorkshire.
Brettgirl2 - EDD 12th April Warwickshire
Salbysea - EDD 18 April - Dorset
Elpis - EDD 23 April (that's what THEY say; I think 25) - Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, London
FlirtyThirty - EDD 24 April - Kingston Hospital
Bicnod - EDD 27 April - Kingston Hospital

XXXX

BinkyB · 23/10/2008 13:54

I'm in maternity clothes today! Yum, so comfy. Am 16 weeks, lots of people still think I'm not showing but I think it looks massive.

Best news - I've not been sick ALL DAY. Probably tempting fate here but it's a long time since I got to 2pm and kept all my food down.

Bicnod, I am waking up at 5 ish too. Ended up getting up for a hot chocolate yesterday as convinced myself it must be hunger. Seemed to work in that I soon went back to sleep but what a palaver.

BinkyB · 23/10/2008 14:03

Skiingone - not with Keith Duncan, am with Guy Thorpe-Beeston. Are you with Keith Duncan at the Portland?

And wow a girl - are you going to tell family they can start buying pink stuff? So far, my Mum thinks we are having 2 girls, Mother in law thinks 1 of each, I think 2 boys. Think I am going to keep everyone (including me) guessing! You can start thinking of names now... so exciting!!

skiingone · 23/10/2008 14:59

Blinky - I'm with Keith Duncan and I see him at the C&W and a woman's health centre just near it, but he's registred to deliver at Portland, so he should be there for me when/ if it comes to it.

It is sooo exciting for you to have twins! Being an identical twin I know you will be so happy. We were a lot of trouble for our parents too, but I'm glad I have a twin sister and I think my mum was glad to have it all done in one go. Do you know if they are identical or not?

We have decided not to tell about the pregnancy to anyone for as long as possible ( it's easy as both of our families are overseas). It will be difficult very soon with people we meet here, but my father and grandmother don't know yet, only my mum, my twin sister, my best friend, and they are sworn to secrecy. We probably will wait till Xmas with it.
I know it may sound strange, but we decided that this would be best for us ( we have our reasons for it).

We are planning to move to a larger place in the next 2-3 months, so not going to buy anything until then ( already have too much of my stuff to move - too many shoes). I will probably start buying necessary things in the last couple of months.

BrightSideOfLife · 23/10/2008 15:32

Hello everyone!!

I am having a fun day at work - I told everyone in the office about the baby and it is lovely how excited they all are. Although, as the word spreads, people come around to say 'congratulations' and it is taking a few seconds for me to remember what they are talking about I thought I had been really obvious but everyone seems genuinely surprised!

I am feeling a little more relaxed about the ECG...as a few of you have said, it is great that they are taking no chances and I do feel like I am getting the best care. If it is anything serious, they wouldn't have made me wait 2 weeks.

flirty littlebrightside is 6.5 CRL, so about the same as yours! My book says the babies full length is around 8.5 cms, which is an odd thought - it seems quite big (to say we can't feel it or see a bump yet!)

bicnod YES!!! Insomnia is driving me mad. I am exhausted at night and fall asleep quickly but then wake up sometime after 3am FULL of energy, really thirsty and completely unable to sleep again. It is very annoying! I know I was desperate for the infamous 2nd-trimester energy-rush but I hadn't considered that it would come in the early hours of the morning

CE I was really tearful in the build up to the scan but was grinning like a cheshire cat during the scan itself!!

How great that your kids asked about the pregnancy!! Enjoy Amsterdam, I am rather

brett I am exactly the same as you - I lost about 5 kilo's during the 'morning sickness' weeks and now weigh about 1 kilo less than before - but can't fasten any of my old clothes...But don't actually look pregnant. Very odd. I am finding shopping for trousers to be a nightmare. If finding decent black trousers is hard enough normally, finding decent black maternity trousers is the equivelant of finding the holy grail!

skiing Congratulations! That is fantastic news about your baby girl. Have you bought anything pink yet?

binky Great news on not being sick yet. Hope it continues!

FlirtyThirty · 23/10/2008 15:39

So...I have been asked to do a reading at my friend's wedding. I am so touched and happy to have been asked...BUT...it is 7 days after my due date. SHIT. What are the odds of me actually being there. I really want to do it for her! I am either going to be a week overdue and the size of a house, unable to attend as I'm labour or just out of the labour ward and with a teeny baby in tow. Just hope I can actually make it!! Oh, and God knows what I'll wear...

Skiing - I'm so excited for you! A little GIRL! Hooray!!!

Binky - My sickness stopped for a day a few days ago and then came back yesterday. But I do think I'm slightly better so hopefully things are turning. I hope so for DH as I've been pretty miserable...poor man!

Bicnod - Until the last few days I've been sleepiong better than ever but now I suddently see 3am, 4am, 5am and 6am! Driving me nuts! And this is before the huge bumps and incontinence starts!

OP posts:
Jools1 · 23/10/2008 17:55

Congrats Skiingone [grin}

BSOL - I am envious of you telling everyone - haven't got my scan till Nov 11th so a while to wait here. Thanks for the advice re epilepsy aswell - all common sense but I guess that goes out of the window with pregnancy brain ! I was chatting to a colleague today who's childhood epilepsy came back after his first child was born - a product of stress and sleepless nights

Flirty - shame about the timing of that wedding - I guess you may have to warn your friend to have a plan b in mind in case you are otherwise engaged ?

If we meet - you won't believe I ever do exercise - my tum may be smaller than yesterday, but it is still hooooogee and flabby !

CE - I think my getting bigger by the hour issue was partly caused by constipation - have had the opposite problem today and am feeling less fat now

FlirtyThirty · 23/10/2008 18:06

Jools - I definitely get bigger over the course of the day! I thought I was imagining it at first...but definitely not. I have to undo my trousers by 4.30pm or risk cutting the circulation to my legs!

Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't been around for ages - I've been wondering how everyone has been getting on. Been working stupidly long hours since beginning of the month and mad busy away at weekends so haen't quite got to popping in amongst all the madness.

Glad to hear everyone is well. I had a scare earlier in the month with pain and some bleeding so was sent to the EPU for a scan - first time I saw little Micro, it was an amazing moment and incredible to see. Luckily all turned out OK but had a horrid couple of days.

Had nuchal scan on Monday this week at Roehampton, they have adjusted my EDD slightly so it is now 27 April, I might just see Bicnod at Kingston as looks like we're due there on the same day! Baby seemed quite quiet but I could see little hands and legs moving and heart beating, CRL was 6.5cm.

Still have no bump (apart from usual wobbly tummy which looks a bit pregnant anyway!) and normal clothes fitting slightly looser than before I got pregnant! Boobs have grown a bit but not masses, they weren't exactly small to start with though.

Have been a bit off my food and no morning sickness but horrible headaches have laid me a bit low, plus last couple of weeks I have felt utterly exhausted, so much so that a couple of Sundays ago I just burst into tears because I felt so tired.

Told my two female bosses at work - kind of had to when I was off for sick two days unexpectedly with the bleeding etc. They seemed really pleased for me. I've told my mum who is already buying baby stuff and OH has told his dad, will tell others soon I think.

Anyway it's lovely to catch up on everyone's news and I'm hoping work will calm down a bit now so I'll be able to pop in more often.

Best wishes to all

daisyj · 23/10/2008 19:04

jools - Yup, like everyone else says things started pulling around my waist quite early (around 9 or 10 weeks) as I just got really bloated. Progesterone makes your digestive system sluggish, so you?re not the only one. And don?t talk to me about constipation!

Kalikaroo - great that you got that ?telling boss? milestone out of the way. My (childless, female) boss is a pretty formidable woman who, until another colleague of mine got pg about 18 months ago, had not had a single member of staff pg. Everyone asks me anxiously how she reacted to my news, but she was very sweet ? I think she was ?broken? by my colleague, luckily for me

Brightside - for the scan. Your child is clearly in training for great feats of athleticism ? you must be very proud! Glad you?re not feeling too nervous about the ECG ? and it is good that they are keeping a close eye on your. How lovely to be able to tell everyone at work ? so weird isn?t it? You can?t imagine how everyone can not have noticed when it?s all you can think about!

CE - I?ve suddenly sprouted this week, too. Bought a cute pair of ?boyfriend? jeans in Blooming Marvellous today ? the bump band is sooo comfy! Their tops are cut quite big, though, so I?m sticking to my one-size-too-big t-shirts from Top Shop for now, but I reckon BM tops will be great for the last trimester. A friend did tell me they were the only things that fitted her in her last month. Also their wide-leg black trousers with a ribbon belt are lovely ? I might get some later, but will make do with my cheapie New Look ones for now I think How sweet about your kids asking about the pregnancy . And about you going to Amsterdam. I think we might do a little trip in January as a pre-baby treat, before I get too big to be comfortable.

brettgirl - I think Top Shop maternity trousers might come in a longer length, too. Have you tried their stuff?

Flirty - glad you?re feeling a bit better ? here?s to an easier second trimester. Hope you had a good no-builders-in-the-house day ? look forward to comparing finding-dust-in-every-nook-and-cranny stories when we meet . But about the wedding. Is it in London or would you have to travel? If it?s not far to go you never know, you might be able to do it? Can your friend have a standby in case you can?t?

skiingone - welcome back ? glad your family worries are sorted. A GIRL, how exciting . Just watched the episode of SATC last night when Miranda finds out the baby is a boy and looks horrified ? lol. Hope you?ll be able to meet the London girls in December.

binky - yay for not feeling sick today!

I have that stomach bug that seems to be going round, except my only symptom is bad cramps across the top of my tummy and radiating downwards. Much better when I sit still, but unfortunately have had busy day today (despite being on holiday for the week ? hence the long posts this week ). It?s a bit disconcerting having cramps but I?m sure there?s nothing to worry about [slightly worried emoticon].

Bicnod · 23/10/2008 20:04

I'm quite relieved to read that a few others have been suffering the insomnia too (although obviously not wishing it on you as its horrid!!!)

might try the hot chocolate in the middle of the night idea...

yay I'm so pleased so many people can make 13/14 December - I'm really excited to put faces to names and compare bumps... none of my friends in london are pg so there isn't really anyone to bore about pregnancy/baby chat (or rather, there are lots of people to bore, but not that many people who want to talk about it constantly!!)

it's my 30th birthday tomorrow and i've got the day off work... hurrah for a lie in

Elpis · 23/10/2008 21:12

bicnod - I'd really like to make 13/14 Dec too even though I'm in north London. You know how we north Londoners can be about taking trains sarf of the river but I used to live in East Dulwich so can handle it . Providing you're not miles from a station ...

brettgirl2 - I sympathise as am 6'0" and have enough trouble finding trousers already! I had a look in Gap's maternity section the other day and saw some good cuts but all were in regular length. Let me know if you find a good source. In the meantime, I'm going to stick to dresses and skirts when I do start showing.

Congratulations on the scan Brightside. FlirtyThirty - I reckon you should say yes but have your friend arrange a stand-in - or perhaps, since the stand-in might feel a bit second choice, ask whoever else is reading to be prepared to jump in.

Everyone - I am now waking every morning at 5.15am. It's crazy. Even though I drift off again the sleep is fitful and shallow. I suppose I should take advantage and just get up at 6, get a seat on the tube and crack on with work, but somehow that doesn't appeal...

skiingone · 24/10/2008 11:42

Good morning gorls!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Bicnod!!!
It's great to turn 30 and be expecting a baby, it's like a start of a new chapter in life!

I would really love to come to a meet up with Kingston girls and everyone else who is coming to the meet up, but we have decided to have an early ski season and will be in Austria 12-17 Dec, also celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary on the 16th there.

If anyone fancies a coffee/cake meet up in central/ west London sometime maybe mid November - let me know. I'm up for it.

Hi Springmums

Apologies for the double post last night - did it from work whilst waiting to see my boss about something (naughty me) and the machine went mad!

Hope everyone's well - Bicnod happy 30th, have a lovely day, are you going out to celebrate later?

Feeling knackered again today despite going to bed early - up twice in the night to visit the loo, I seem to do that most nights now even if I haven't drunk much in the evening, does anyone else find this? Waiting/hoping for the second trimester energy spurt to come along but nothing so far, is anyone else feeling more energetic yet?

Hoping work computer doesn't go mad again and post twice - apologies if it does......

Happy Birthday Bicnod - I hope you get spoilt today

Am definitely feeling PG today - 9 weeks today !!! Slightly rounded abdomen and can definitely feel something in there when I lie down

FlirtyThirty · 24/10/2008 12:35

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BICNOD!
I actualy found out I was pregnant on my birthday this year...not a present I was expecting! (bizarre as we were actively trying!) Anyway...hope you too have a day full of fun surprises! Next year you'll be getting a card from Baby Bicnod!

Littleduck - I too have the 3am loo run. And when I wake up I'm convinced it's because my bladder is so full it will burst! I can feel my stomach go rock hard with liquid...I am honestly not drinking that much! Where on earth is it coming from...?! A mystery.

I am having a good day though - Down's screening test came back this morning as 1:28000, so I'm officially going public this weekend! Aahhh!!!

Ooh, bicnod, sorry I missed you yesterday ? glad all well for your scan. It is weird afterwards, when the scan makes it real but then nothing much happens bump-wise for a while - most frustrating And happy birthday! Hope you?re having a lovely day.

littleduck - you must have been so worried ? v. glad all is OK for you.

Flirty - pleased for your great blood results .

Cramps getting better, but knackered from being ill. Off to Kent for weekend for SIL?s birthday. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Afternoon ladies! Hope you're all having a fab friday! Just noticed the Halloween icons at the bottom of the page!! They don't really celebrate Halloween here (instead it's a time for people to put candles on their loved ones graves... ).

How's everyone feeling? I'm ok and feel pretty normal most of the time. I really want to feel the baby move though because it doesn't seem real (though I have a slight bump). MW said I probably wouldn't feel it for ages yet because of the placenta being on the front.

My DH and Mum are convinced it's going to be a boy and I keep calling it a 'he' because of them! I think I'd like to know the sex before it's born just because if it's a girl I'd like to call her 'she' rather than 'he' or 'it'!!

Anyway, enough rambling from me. Have a good weekend everyone.
