First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Ladies...is anyone else totally lacking in motivation to do ANYTHING!

What, even shoe shopping?

FlirtyThirty · 07/10/2008 18:17

Nothing, Daisy.
Absolutely nothing has appeal.
It's like depression, but aside from being behind on things, I've nothing to be depressed about. On the contrary I'm pregnant with a child I've wanted for years! I should be ecstatic! What's wrong with me?!?

I simply cannot find anything that really sparks me. I sort of want to hibernate.

Hello girls!

Hope all are fine and ready to eat some more for dinner!
Welcome "Saz"!!! We could still count your due date as spring...(hmm) .

"Flirty" - I have to drag myself out of bed at around 10 in the morning and then write down all things I should do during the day and then have difficult time dragging myself out of the house before midday. This is really the pinnacle of lazyness and lack of motivation in my books... but I'm blaming the pg for this.

Hi to everyone else!

daisyj · 07/10/2008 18:34

There's nothing wrong with you, hon. It's the hormones, plus all the fears and anxieties that a lot of the time you probably don't even realise you're having. And it's OK to feel crappy even if you know you should be 'grateful'. You are ecstatic, deep down, it just has a funny way of showing itself sometimes. I think it's OK just to give in and feel that way. I've found I just seesaw from totally unmotivated to pretty much OK. And you know you may well find that you do get that fabled second trimester energy in a few weeks time .

daisyj · 07/10/2008 18:43

Flirty - I just read your other post. Hope I didn't sound 'know-it-all' - it is pretty horrible to go from capable and on top of things to feeling so not on top of things. I didn't realise you were having building work done too - and it must be so disctracting with working from home at the same time. Having freelanced from home for 2 years, I have an idea of how much easier it would be to get down in that situation. You feel as if you should be sorting the house out as well as working, and you end up doing neither properly. Is there some way that for the next few days you can timetable things so that you have specific parts of the day marked out for, say, tax return (ugh), work and housework? Sounds like you've already started on things with the very good advice you've had elsewhere, but this is just another thought for you.

xx

Hi Girls,

Im new to this site but am also due in the Spring, May 6th 09.

Where is everyone from and how is everyone feeling?

I seem to be having every symptom at the moment and trying desperately to enjoy the pregnancy as we've wanted a baby for quite a long time but somedays its quite hard.

Hope your all doing well and it would be lovely to join the 'Spring Club'. This is my 1st baby but not sure if its yours?

take care everyone.

Luv

Mummymoss xx

skiingone · 07/10/2008 19:35

Congratulations and welcome mummymoss!

Yes, it is a thread for first timers due in Spring 09. So you fit in perfectly!

I have had very few symptoms from the start, and now don't seem to have almost any ( except for continuing bloating and laziness). Looking forward to my next doctor's app. in 10 days to check on what's happening.

You will start feeling better in a few weeks though.

heverhoney1 · 07/10/2008 21:11

FLirty I am feeling pretty unmotivated too!!! I just want to go to bed and protect my little one. I also want to sleep A LOT!!!!! Work is hard esp as they dont know yet and we have rolling targets we have to meet - things have to be dealt with within a time of them being reported so it is impossible to have a couple of off days. I do and I convince myself I can catch up but when it comes down to it I cant.

saz007 · 08/10/2008 08:56

Morning all,

Thanks for the lovely welcome!!

Flirty I'm feeling like that, can't be bothered to do anything at all - not good when I'm at work! The only thing I really want to do is sleep, I've never been so tired. I'm finding it so difficult to concentrate at work (I'm not planning on telling them for a while yet) especially in meetings.

Apart from the tiredness, the only symptom I have is mild nausea, but it hasn't put me off food - yet!

Jools1 · 08/10/2008 09:06

I'm tired too - by the time I commute home from work, I could lie down on the station platform and sleep for days, but I wake up several times, wide awake in the night, then feel like utter crap in the mornings.

The nausea is getting worse, I can't concentrate at work either and, to cap it all today, I think my cats must have got into the the room where I hang my washing to dry (they are banned from there for spraying on clean washing) as I detect a certain aroma of cat pee and think I need to go out and buy a new top

skiingone · 08/10/2008 11:42

Hi girls!

Jules - are you immune to toxoplasmosis? If not, you have to be careful with your kitties now.

Well managed to get out of bed by 10.20 today only because I was thirsty, otherwise would have continued to sleep... DH is in Canada for work, so no one to motivate me around. Making my "to do" list and hopefully getting out of here within next hour.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Ladies I have a question. I had my booking appointment with the midwife on Monday and my bloods were taken. I got a call from the docs today asking if I could go back in (the receptionist sounded like it was quite urgent) so I'm going on Friday.

I phoned them back and asked if it was serious (tbh I wasn't expecting the results back just yet). Apparently they've discovered irregular antibodies on my red cells. I have to go back and give another blood sample

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thank you

BrightSideOfLife · 08/10/2008 16:16

Hi all!

Welcome Saz & Mummymoss!

mummymoss I know exactly what you mean about 'trying to enjoy the pregnancy'. I feel like I moan endlessly about the morning sickness and exhaustion, I have to remind myself how much we wanted this baby! Hopefully this will pass in the second trimester and we will all be full of that mythical 2nd Trimester energy!!

jools I can picture these pregnant women lying down and sleeping on train platforms across the UK. I certainly know that I feel the same in the evenings. Sometimes (if I get a seat on the platform) I will even let one or trains go before I get up and get onto one myself, the effort of standing seems too much I saw on the other thread that you were concerned about being sick during a big presentation? I had the same concern last week and managed to get through it by sucking mints...not ideal, but it seemed to do the trick.

flirty I can really sympathise on the lack of motivation / apathy feeling. I would like to think it is completely natural and it is our bodies way of conserving energy to help our little ones grow. You certainly have alot on your plate right now!!

saz Phonecalls like that from the doctors office are always terrifying! I don't know too much about antibodies but there is a good NHS booklet on it that is available online.

brightside crosses her fingers that her link works

While it does not look to be very common, it certainly looks like it is completely treatable. Let us know how that meeting at the doctors goes!

saz007 · 08/10/2008 16:44

Thanks for the link brightside it worked fine! I'll check out that booklet
I'll update on Friday

skiingone · 08/10/2008 18:51

Saz

I'm not sure if you have the same issue, but you probably have negative blood rhesus factor like me. We can get antibodies in blood in pregnancy if the baby has positive RH factor. I'll get 2 Anti-D injections later in pregnancy ( at 26 and 34 weeks) and if necessary after labour. This is no trouble at all nowadays and actualy can do without these treatments for the first pregnancy as the levels of antibodies rarelly get too high to cause problems. So not to worry!

brettgirl2 · 08/10/2008 18:58

I totally understand the absolute lack of energy, this being compounded by the fact that I am sleeping so badly at the moment. Has anyone else found their tiredness get worse and worse? Perhaps because I don't feel as nauseous any more I am just noticing it!

I've got to try and get a train tomorrow - haven't attempted it for a few weeks due to my travel sickness, also need to get the tube right across London - it would be that my first trip out for weeks has to be at the opposite side of central London to the station. 5 hours travelling in total, I can hardly wait!

I had a look at Isabella Oliver for maternity clothes - they look nice and although they are expensive I wouldn't mind spending a bit more on a few key pieces. Only prob is that most of them are dry clean only - I find this irritating usually but if I only have a capsule wardrobe it will be impossible arrghh!!!

Saz - good luck on Friday, I'm sure they'll be able to explain it and it will be treatable. It's amazing how many things they test for, but at least we all now know that we don't have Syphilis, just in case anyone had ever been worried!

Bicnod · 08/10/2008 19:29

I am sooooooooooo tired at the moment too

I've had a stinking cold for nearly 2 weeks that I just can't shake and I've got to work a 15 hour day tomorrow as we have a fundraising event in the evening which I have to be at and will probably go on until about 11pm...

Considering the fact that I've been passing out on the sofa at about 7pm every evening for the past couple of months I'm not quite sure how I'm going to cope with tomorrow... argh!!! Especially as noone at work knows I'm pg yet as my scan isn't until Tuesday...

Please send me lots of energy tomorrow night spring mums-to-be - I'll be needing it

saz007 · 09/10/2008 08:41

Thanks skiingone I used to donate blood (stopped when started TTC) so I know that I'm rhesus positive, but I'm sure it's just something like that.

Thanks ladies for your good luck for Friday!

Loads of energy flying across cyberspace to you Bicnod

evs34 · 09/10/2008 10:39

brettgirl. i have just ordered a load from is ol. will let you know what they are like - better be lovely for the cost of them !

no energy here either, promises of it all being ok in 2nd trimester not happened yet . little bump starting to show though which is v exciting,. xxx

BinkyB · 09/10/2008 13:56

I am a hermit. I don't want to leave my bed, never mind my house. Yesterday I managed to claim 'working from home' which basically meant lolling in bed, lolling on sofa, brief interludes for puking and same for eating, more lolling. So Bicnod I don't have a lot of energy to spare but any surplus is coming your way for tonight! Hope it goes ok.

Saz let us all know how you get on at docs. Sure all will be fine.

I've just had my test results back from the Down's screening and it's low risk which is great - one twin is 1/5500 risk and the other is 1/5800. How on earth do they work that out - mind boggling.

BrightSideOfLife · 09/10/2008 14:53

Hi all!

binky great news on your down's screening results! Amazing how precise they can be

evs How exciting about your new clothes! You'll have to give a garment-by-garment review of each

bicnod good luck for tonight, I hope it goes as well as it can for you. Will you be able to sleep in tomorrow to recover?

jools I just saw on the May EDD thread that your DH is epileptic, mine is too. He is largely controlled (down to about a seizure a year) but his seizures are brought on by stress and lack of sleep. I am already really concerned about how he will handle the sleepless nights during labour and in the newborn stage! Do you have similair issues with your DH?

brettgirl I hope your train ride went Ok and that you at least managed a few naps between your connections!

Jools1 · 09/10/2008 15:44

Hi all - just flying in as have finished a big client presentation in Birmingham and am going to escape in a mo for the early train back home.

BSOL - re the epilepsy, I have the same concerns He is controlled bar 3 - 5 times per year and that is normally caused by a combination of alchohol and lack of sleep. However, stress is a factor too. I could start a whole new thread on living with ppl who have epilepsy ! He is getting far more sensible with looking after himself though, and I always know the signs. He is due one soon I think as he is so grumpy and angry - like a fuse about to blow. His brother has night epilepsy and I've been worried about it being hereditary, but apparently there is no proven link and no way of testing for it ..

BrightSideOfLife · 09/10/2008 15:57

jools how did your presentation go?

Reading your thread is like reading something I wrote!! I also know my DH is due a seizure soon - he always gets very clumsy and gets black rings under his eyes in the build up to a relapse. His epilepsy is caused by the removal of a tumour about 10 years ago and the doctors say 'probably not' hereditary . As you know - there is no way to check. He also has 'night epilepsy' which means he only gets seizures when he is asleep. (Apart from a terrifying seizure last year on a train...sorry to anyone who was delayed on South Western in mid-November, due to a 'Passenger taken ill' on the train.)

He takes care of himself better now but still REFUSES to wear a medic-alert bracelet, which enfuriates me.

Living with epilepsy is an experience...I have never gotten used to dealing with the seizures. They are terrifying, absolutely terrifying. Becoming parents while dealing with Epilepsy is equally danuting - I am glad we are not alone in this.

Have a safe journey home...

ChocolateEclair · 09/10/2008 16:34

Hi ladies

Sounds like some of you guys need a bit of cheering up

I will send you as much of my 2nd trimester energy as I can spare! It really does get better honest! I am nowhere near as tired as I was even 2 weeks ago - even managed a night out last night (on a school night!!!) LOL!

We also got our screening results back today and were given a very low risk 1 in 2,300 so we are ecstatic! The MW said for a woman of my age and BMI etc anything over 1 in 384 is good. I think hopefully there is not much else that could go wrong now! Touch wood!

I don't want to scare you guys but my bump grew a lot overnight last night....very bizarre! And have put on 2 lbs overnight also! Jeez! Hoping it doesn't happen every night! pmsl!
