First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Bicnod - I have just wandered onto this thread for the first time and your post about the long evening today jumped out at me. I know exactly how you feel, I have made myself really unpopular by wriggling out of evening commitments I just couldn't imagine staying upright through. If I were you the only thing I think might help is stuffing my face before and during - but you might have no appetite. Good luck however you manage to tough it out - including coming up with an excuse not to go.
My bed is like a very strong magnet in a cartoon.

gingersarah · 09/10/2008 16:58

I am very impressed with all of you who are all organised and buying or about to buy maternity clothes. I am in denial and still squashing myself into my old work standbys. The jeans will be the first to go. I need to do something about this!

brettgirl2 · 09/10/2008 20:15

I'm not organised at all - It's just that I find clothes a nightmare to buy usually - so I need to have some kind of plan when the time comes. Luckily I am kind of a "small" 12 in trousers so quite a few of my clothes have growing room.

I survived the train ride, tried to have a nap in the quiet carriage on the way back. Unfortunately, had to put up with a couple of pissed up morons kicking off all the way back (and there were no spare seats so I couldn't move). But I'm pleased it didn't set my nausea off again like it did last time.

I'm still waiting for this second trimester energy rush - ski you're 9 days ahead of me, so hopefully it will come soon! I have no idea how people are doing 15 hour days I just couldn't.

BSOL it is actually lovely to know there is someone else out there who understands epilepsy and is in a similar situation.

Although DP's brother has night epilepsy, my DP has seizures during the day. When he was a teenager, he had petit mal, then it went away in his twenties and came back as grand mal. He has a lot of scars on his chin from where he's fallen and it has been sewn together so many times

I used to cope pretty well - it is scary but I am used to it. Now though, I just get so incredibly stressed and sick with worry when I see the signs - just want to wrap him up in cotton wool and keep him in bed till it passes. It does impact on our social life and I am reluctant to go on holidays abroad with him. When he is ill or run-down (or when stupid GP's put him on abs and forget they interfere with his drugs ), he has been known to have multiple seizures and I've ended up having to call an ambulance. It can then take up to a month for all his memory and full personality to return - that is what frightens me the most. Last time this happened, I must have caught a bug in the hospital and ended up with the most awful bout of gastroenteritis ever - was off work for 6 weeks and at one point admitted to hospital because the pain was so bad, they thought it was appendicitis. My abdomen was so bloated and sore then, I could hardly walk - really looked PG

I am worried a prolonged labour will cause a problem, or he will have a seizure whilst I'm heavily pg and can't help him, or will have a seizure and fall on baby, or scare baby ... - and then I start worrying that it may be hereditary. At that point, I switch off my imagination and just tell myself that what will be will be and I WILL cope - his epilepsy will recede with age and everything will be fine ...

Sorry for long post - that felt good to write down

daisyj · 10/10/2008 14:06

CE you said it much better than I did - Flirty's not been around this week, so I don't think I was much help . It's amazing how the tiredness just lifts, though, isn't it? First few weeks, I just went home and got into bed and dinner was in the form of bed picnic provided by DH.

Did you know that the baby doubles in size between 16 and 19 weeks? Sounds like yours has in the last three days . I expect I'll be right behind you with the growth spurt, though. Hope so. I feel like I still look as though I just had one pie too many (although I'm not sure you can ever have too many pies )

Lovely news on the Down's risk. We have 1:840, but I'm 36, so I guess it's quite heavily adjusted for age - think you're younger than me, aren't you? Didn't realise BMI had anything to do with it, though. That's interesting... Looks like we're about the same size, though.

Jools and BSOL that sounds very tough - MN is a great place to get support though - hope it helps you both to deal with whatever is to come. xx

Bought an is ol mini skirt last week, but wasn't sure what size to go for. It was a bit small so I've sent it back and ordered the next size up. It was lovely, though, and sat really comfortably below the incipient bump.

We're moving back into our flat tomorrow after six weeks of renovations. Can't wait to see the cat!

Have a lovely RESTFUL weekend, everyone.

x

FlirtyThirty · 10/10/2008 14:45

Daisy - you DID help! Thank you. I have been trying hard to just get on top of things a little and now that the washing mountain has receeded and my paperwork is slowly getting more under control, I'm feeling better. Am going to have a big house tidy this weekend and I think that will make the biggest difference to me.
My sickness has curiously got worse over the last 2 days and I've been miserable when DH has come home (poor man, I've barely spoken to him!) I'm 12 weeks today though so really hoping that things start to get better...

Anyway...the sun is shining and I'm determined to not be depressed. Scan next Thurs - please God let it all be ok - and then I can share the news a little more and perhaps get some help for a few things.

Okay...must get going again...take care all...

Ooh, Flirty, good to see you. I know how it can all get on top of you, and how much better it feels once you've just ticked a few things of that list! I think you'll feel such a lift after the scan, and as you enter your second trimester. Hope you have lovely (and productive) weekend.

Bicnod · 10/10/2008 15:56

Hey Saz, Brightside and gingersarah - thanks for the energy, it got me through last night - didn't get home until midnight that's the latest I've been out since I've been pg!

Having said that, at about 11am (shortly before I got a taxi home) my colleague - who doesn't know I'm pg - asked if I was ok and said I looked green. Had to go and sit outside with head between my legs for 10 minutes to stop self from fainting/puking - not ideal It was quite embarassing actually - people must have wondered why on earth I couldn't cope with a late evening

Scan is on tuesday next week so fingers crossed all will be well and can tell everyone at work just why I was being such a wuss last night!

Elpis · 10/10/2008 20:12

Flirty, I think you'll feel a lot better after the scan. I had mine yesterday and was so relieved and happy afterwards. The small beast looked so vulnerable but so contented too. There wasn't any significant movement - apparently they get tired and fall asleep even at this stage - but I could see the fingers, which was terribly moving.

I've ordered some pieces from Isabelle Olivier, none of them dry-clean, but haven't opened the package yet because it's been a busy week and I haven't got a bump yet! I bought my wedding dress too, which may have been unwise as it's a bit fitted and I'll be 17 weeks, but there's a bit of room where I imagine the bump will be and it fitted so perfectly, I had to have it... but if Chocolate Eclair's experience is anything to go by, I may have been stupid! I just don't suit empire line dresses at all... yet.

Elpis · 10/10/2008 20:14

Oh, and don't make the mistake of buying from IO without realising that Mumsnet members are entitled to a discount. Damn!

Jools1 · 10/10/2008 22:05

Bicnod - I came back from a business mtg in Birmingham and ended up in the pub, then going for a meal - was amazed how well I held up till it got to around 9.30 and I could have crawled under the dining table and slept !!!

Feels like I'm talking to myself in here

Where is everyone ?? Hope you all had good weekends.

I've just had my booking in appt - lovely MW and it turns out I do get a 12 week scan after all

My weight gain in the past 2 weeks means my BMI is on the verge of being considered high risk and needing consultant care, which upset me, but am hoping I can keep the weight off now the nausea and tiredness seems to have gone.

FlirtyThirty · 13/10/2008 12:39

Hello Jools...you're not alone! I'm just really busy at the moment...and battling with a seemingly endless headache! God - I so thought that being PG would be a dream...how delusional I was!!!
So glad your bookign in went well - and don't worry about weight or high-risk too much...the latter will just mean you get lots of extra attention! And that's only a good thing! And as you say, you're only a aborderline case and may be able to get on top of the weight thing now you're feeling better. Oh, and so exciting about 12 wk scan...mine's on Thursday morning! I can't believe it! I'm very excited and very nervous...

Now...I really have to get back to it...

Hello everyone else!

Afternoon all,

Just popping on quickly to say that I went to the docs for my extra blood tests and the nurse I saw said that the antibodies could have been down to a recent infection or something, so I'm feeling slightly more positive now. Just waiting for the results to come back, but being as impatient as I am, I will be on the phone on Wednesday to see if they are back!!!

I also got a date for my 12 week scan...3rd November. It's seeming more real now. It also said I can buy a copy of the scan for the small charge of £2....of course I'll be having one of those!! Flirty you'll have to let me know how it goes if you don't mind?

Jools glad to hear that the nausea and tiredness pass. I'm not feeling bad with nasuea much but the tiredness is unreal!

evs34 · 13/10/2008 13:29

sorry jools. been busy and feeling a little blue for some reason. no idea why as v pleased and excited about pregnancy.

IO clothes were a bit of a let down, jeans were terrible and tops not worth 60 odd pounds. its all going back - except the dress which is lovely. went to jo jo and got some nice tops and a bump band instead! still bit concerned as not showing much - just look a bit fat. am 15 weeks now so was hoping for a bump. paranoid that something has happened - just ordered a doppler as cannot wait until next weeks mwife app.
how are all of your bumps??

few new people here since last time i was on - hello and congrats to you xx

going to munch another crunchie ( could explain fatness! ) and then drag myself back to work. have a good afternoon.lol xxxxxx

BinkyB · 13/10/2008 13:33

Hello everyone! I am still puking for England and at 15.3 weeks so really now starting to worry this is how it's going to be for the whole thing... I am not sure I can cope with that thought

But keep telling myself it is all worth it. I haven't cried (yet!) whereas I think the self pity would normally be kicking in strong by now, and think that's just because I still catch myself grinning at the thought of these babies.

Going to go back to my parents for the weekend this week, to get some pampering and give DH a break (yes, I think I've been that bad!). Parents very excited about seeing the bump and I'm looking forward to sharing it with them. And going bra shopping with Mum feels weirdly appropriate, sixteen years after the first time!

Anyone else hooked on X Factor and Strictly as the ideal Saturday night in? To think I used to laugh at the idea of watching those shows, and now I even tune in for the extras!

Look forward to hearing about your scans you 3. Let us know what you see!

And keep sharing the maternity shopping tips - dying to know if the IO stuff lives up to the hype. Will we get to see a photo of the wedding dress, Elpis?

Hope Mondays aren't too manic all round
Love Binky x

BinkyB · 13/10/2008 13:36

oh crossed messages evs. Good to know about IO. Think am going to start in trust topshop and see if DH can be persuaded to take me to formes for the odd treat.

Bump sounds similar (and remember there are 2 in mine so don't worry!). I think I look massive and have a huge bump. best mate thinks I look like I have eaten a large sandwich.

Also -yuck- have stretchmarks already - boo. Not on bump but on my hips so guess I am going to just expand all over... Bring on the fatness.

Oooh crunchie envy

Jools1 · 13/10/2008 14:55

Saz - you are actually further along than me, so all I can do is provide hope that the tiredness does go, but it is obviously lasting a bit longer for you !!

Exciting about the scan I'm really really hoping I will get a date dead on 12 weeks, ie Nov 7th - I'm meeting loads of friends that night and will find it really really hard to keep the secret otherwise.

saz007 · 13/10/2008 15:12

Jools my scan date is a couple of days before I get to 12 weeks (get there on Nov 5th). I didn't want to tell anyone until we reached 12 weeks, but I think I'll probably burst if I have to keep it a secret anymore! Plus we go away on the 11th Nov, so I was really hoping I'd get in beforehand

I had my booking appointmnet on the Monday and Saturday morning my scan date turned up! That was SO quick

FlirtyThirty · 13/10/2008 18:54

Ladies...I'm getting confused (easily done!) when we're all due...so thought I'd start a reminder stats list...add yourselves on..

I told my boss in her office today and she squealed so loudly the entire department heard. They will just have to wait for Friday to have their suspicions confirmed.

Have now opened IO package and can confirm the fabrics are top quality. But it feels too weird to try them on when I'm not even showing yet.
