OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mslucy · 13/08/2008 08:15

morning ladies.
can who ever is in charge of the list please change my age from 37 to 38.

It's my birthday to day, and yes I am indeed very old.

But the sun is shining (for the moment) so frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn.

MarkStretch · 13/08/2008 08:48

Happy Birthday MsLucy!

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 08:55

Happy birthday MsLucy!

DP ordered a 'dreamgenie' pregnancy pillow for me that arrived yesterday and it was sooo comfortable almost didn't want to get up today! No sun here im afraid but cheerful anyway as i get to see my lo - scan at 4 o clock yay!

mslucy · 13/08/2008 10:25

sun not shining any more.
Whatever.

nadssss · 13/08/2008 10:31

Really? I think I will buy a pillow too. Are they really good? I love sleeping on my back and tummy so I will definitely need one at some point to help side sleeping.

I also have a question for the Doppler gang: I can hear what I have been assuming is the baby?s heartbeat loud and clear (about three inches below and to the left of my bellybutton ? really quite low). BUT when I time the heartbeats they are only about 69 beats per minute. Could this be my own heartbeat I am hearing? All the way down there below my bellybutton? Or could I somehow miscounting the beat as one rather than two? It is a sort of wooshy noise.

Any thoughts gratefully received! I may just be being totally dim?

And Happy B'day MsLucy!

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 11:32

Nadssss that pillow is great - i used it for the first time last night and it was lovely for throwing my leg over (phnar phnar ) and the support behind my back stopped me from moving around lots too - id really recommend it if you'd like support in side sleeping.

As for the doppler bpm you are hearing if it it a swooshing sound its likely to be your blood flow ( which is in time with your heartbeat) in the placenta or an internal pulse point at any rate - i pick them up all of the time but you are only 13 and a bit weeks right ( i am 12 and a bit ) and it is waaaayy lower than three inches above my bellybutton - perhaps try the top of your knickerline - depending on what kind of knickers you are wearing lol - but your pregnancy is only just out of the pelvic brim so when i look for my lo's hb i literally have to point the thing downwards into my pelvis at the top of my knickerline and move it incrementally across from one side to the other till i hear a really fast whoosh whoosh whoosh ( much much fast than anything you will hear from your hb or placenta ) try the top end of your bikini line - the very very bottom of your tummy - press in a little ( i have to anyway because of the extra padding lol ) and just keep going - took me over ten mins to find yesterday because it had moved and seemed to be much deeper - good luck!!!

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 11:37

Hmm upon reflection Nadssss maybe the top of your knickerline is only three inches from your bellybutton lol - after all my tummy is quite rounded so a little more than three inches! Anyhoo just aim for your knickerline and listen for a fast hb

nadssss · 13/08/2008 11:47

Hi Rosie - thanks so much for this.

Sorry for confusion - I have been trying three inches below the belly button (not above). Hmmm. I am going to try again tonight even lower and get this fast whoosh whoosh! I can't believe my DH and I have possibly been cooing over my heartbeat for the last week!

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 12:09

He he - its easily done - my DP and daughters all thought the same till i squelched around a bit more and found the unmistakable super fast whoosh whoosh i just remember when my midwife used it on me at 12 weeks when i was preg 11 years ago with dd3 thinking hmmm i really wish id done my bikini line - thats how low it is!

PinkTulips · 13/08/2008 12:47

just poopping on fore a second so this will be in my threads i'm on.

dp has his exam tomorrow so he's panicing and needing to be close to his darling pc

will pop on later and read through

TinkerBellesMum · 13/08/2008 12:51

I'm thinking of getting a Doppler, anyone have any idea how much gel you go through? Just wondering if it's worth buying it with 250ml or 2x 250ml.

I can't believe I'm nearly half way to my minimum aim! I can almost guarantee that in another 15 weeks we will be having babies already If it wasn't such a serious subject we could run a book on the first birthday

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 13:00

Tink i bought 2x 250 ml as my supplier of the the doppler only provided me with 100ml and i had that used in about 5 days - i use loads too but to tide me over till the new stuff arrived i sent DP over the the chemists for a tube of ky jelly which works just as well strangely anyway lots of suppliers on ebay and i think i paid around £10 for 500ml and p and p HTH

Blimey when you put it like that 15 weeks doesnt bear thinking about! Im really keeping my fingers crossed that you keep this one in as long as poss though

TinkerBellesMum · 13/08/2008 13:30

In 15 weeks we will be nearing the end and people will be getting fed up. Makes pregnancy seem a lot shorter when you break it up like that lol.

The link that someone else posted has 500ml for £7.49. Somehow I don't see TBD letting me get any as I will be having so many scans that he will see it as a waste

winemakesmummyclever · 13/08/2008 13:39

Happy birthday mslucy!

Nadssss - yup, that's def your own HR there. As Rosie says, you might need to put a wee bit of pressure on. Hope you find the lo tonight - they are incredibly wriggly!

Tink - I think that as soon as Xmas is over, you should adopt a Mork from Ork upside-down style of sitting down, thus using gravity to help keep the lo in there for as long as possible . No, seriously, really do hope that you go as long as you can and all is well.

Have just bought ds a big fluffy spider from Ikea in an attempt to deal with his recently developed arachnophobia (well, maybe not that severe a dislike). He now has a new best mate called Sid who is napping alongside him! It'll either work or he'll need some very expensive counselling in later life!

winemakesmummyclever · 13/08/2008 13:40

PT - hope dh does okay in his exam.

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 13:44

15 weeks is only nearly 28 for me so will still have a good 10 or more to go after that and if my memory serves me correctly its that bit that seems the bloody longest!

Thats cheap for 500ml will look into that for next time - dont think i will use it so much once i can feel regular movement but will keep it for when baby has quiet days though - i rented mine for 9.99 a month but you can get them cheaper than that im sure - would probably be even cheaper to buy - and you could always say to TBD that peace of mind is better than a worrying mum to be!

laidbackinengland · 13/08/2008 13:44

Hello everyone. Glad to hear that the scans are all going well for people. I had a midwife appointment this morning . Heard baby's heartbeat, BP and wee all OK. My next appointment is in October when I'll be 26 weeks !! He'a a great midwife and has one wall in his office with photos of loads of the babies he has delivered. Very sweet.

It is pissing down with rain here too. My poor kids are getting bored now. There is only so much you can do inside with three energetic boys.

Hopefully the other people on the list will start posting soon. I remember with DS2 I used to lurk alot and couldn't pluck up the courage to post as I thought the group was already 'formed' IYSWIM. Come on Feb ladies - get posting - you are all welcome here , warts and all !

haventgotaclue · 13/08/2008 13:47

Hi ladies, I'm removing myself from the list as unfortunately I was diagnosed with a mmc at my dating scan last week.

I haven't posted much but I have lurked lots and you've all kept me very entertained with your postings. Good luck to you all, I'll be thinking of you in Feb.

Mslucy, I've updated your age while working on list - Happy Birthday!

Haventgotaclue - I am so so sorry to hear that. How are you? The ladies on the mc threads are lifesavers if you feel up to talking to them. I went through a mmc this time last year and they were a fantastic source of support. I hope that you and your dp are getting the support and care that you need. Look after yourself and allow yourself time to grieve for your lo. Hope to hear better news from you soon x.

oooggs · 13/08/2008 13:57

I'm very sorry haventgotaclue take care of yourself

Happy Birthday MsLucy

winemakesmummyclever · 13/08/2008 13:58

Laidback - hmm...male mw.....how big are his hands?!?

TinkerBellesMum · 13/08/2008 14:13

lol winemakesmummyclever that's if I get past Christmas!

rosieposey definitely look at the link (babymad) you can buy them for just over £20 and that's where the gel is £3.99 each or £7.49 for two. I'm not sure I can convince him about peace of mind, I have too many scans for that.

haventgotaclue I'm so sorry to hear your news, I hope we will be hearing from you soon to say you are pregnant again.

I'm surprised by all the male MW's I'm hearing about on MN. I read in my last pregnancy there are less than 50 and most work in training.

laidbackinengland · 13/08/2008 14:17

WMMC - his hands are quite large - but hopefully he won't prod me about too much. He has 19 years experience and has worked in hospitals and in the community ... hopefully I am in safe (if rather large) hands !

rosieposey · 13/08/2008 14:26

Haventgotaclue so sorry to hear your news and really hope to see you on another antenatal thread soon xx

Tink i will have a good look as thats cheap as chips!

Hmmm i struggle if i have to speak to a male doctor about lady stuff so god knows what id be like with a male midwife - i bet their great laidback but what if he was handsome? id just die everytime i had to get any bare flesh out lol!

Off to hospital shortly for scan - will check back in later.

nadssss · 13/08/2008 15:06

haventgotaclue - i'm so sorry for your loss too - best of luck for the future.

re. dopplers - i have been using normal moisturiser on my tummy rather than the gel - i guess this could be why i may have been listening to my own heartbeat thinking it was the baby's!
