Emma I have my scan on friday and am hoping I can relax I bit after that. I still feel like I am making the whole pregnancy up and that the scan will be empty!!!

I would also have done the test if I had one. Only done three but desperate to do more to make sure its real! Holding myself back from buying them tho!

FruitynNutty · 19/08/2008 15:28

Hi girls,
I got a bit lost with this thread in the early days It suddenly got really long and confusing - doesn't take much for me.

I just wanted to say to Boobz I've just realised from the St.George's thread that you live really close to me. Also looking at your position in the list, you the same age as me too. What team are you with at St.Georges? I've just discovered I'm with Ivory. I asked them about the midwife coming to me at home for my booking in appointment (after speaking to 3 friends who had theirs at home) and they said I can't have it t home as I'm with Ivory Thanks, I don't have a choice then? It would have been much easier as I'm a Childminder so have to drag 2 kiddies with me to the appointment! Ah well. Have you had your booking in yet?

auntyspan · 19/08/2008 15:30

Emma - I don't think the worry stops! I am still worried about DD (2.5).... and when they're babies it's how much they're eating (or not eating); sleeping (or not sleeping) etc etc my mum described it as a 'worry wheel' - it never stops!!

But saying that you're in far more control once they're born....

OP posts:
emma2617 · 19/08/2008 15:44

Oh dear!! And there is a history of going grey early on my mums side of the family...this worry is not going to help at all!! Oh well!!

I have got 5 weeks til I next see the MW, but I have got to move house on saturday and then register with local GP, then have appt with health consultant, then get referred to the MW in my new area...so hoping it flies by!!!

My new hospital is going to be Tameside hospital near Manchester...pparently it doesnt have a great reputation!! The whole trust was kind of scuppered when Harold Shipman got caught!!! Oh dear!!

Boobz · 19/08/2008 16:21

Hi all, and hi Fruity! I went to St George's for my booking in appointment and had a bit of a shocker on all fronts. Whilst waiting for the appointment, a pregnant lady in front of me starts to chit chat, asking me if it's my first and all. I say yes, and she says that I'll like the hospital as it's not as bad as some others, and I tell her I am planning a home birth. At which point she replies "oh you are brave; my baby would have died if I wasn't in the hospital".

Hmmm, not much you can say in reply to that, now is there?

So I go in for my appointment and we get half an hour into the medical history and what not, and she gets onto a screen and clicks on something without asking me the question, and I say - hang on - go back one... and it's the question about where you want to have a baby. She had clicked on hospital and I said "actually, I'm having it at home" and her face drops and says "oh, in that case you can't do it through us - you have to go to Thommies because of your catchment area" (was also the Ivory team Fruity). So that was that - got my stuff and have come home to get another referral from the GP!

Not quite what I had been hoping for.

Ho hum -- guess I'll report back in a couple of weeks with my NEXT booking appointment.

x

Boobz · 19/08/2008 16:23

Fruity -- are you in Streatham then too? If so, come and join us in the Streatham Ante natal group - we're planning a get together at Perfect Blend on the High Road on the 26th

SpookyMadMummy · 19/08/2008 16:27

Afternoon all

Got a letter from the hospital this morning.. have a dating scan next thursday!! Yippee!!

Can't wait....

FruitynNutty · 19/08/2008 16:38

Well Boobz I'm quite literally [shocked] and flabbergasted! as I'm planning for a homebirth too! My 3 friends who were with St.Georges and had their booking in appointments at home all had homebirths. Is this an Ivory thing then? I'll tell them where they can stick their bloody Ivory crap if that's the case!
I want to stick with St.Georges as I'm in Merton Abbey so it really is the nearest hospital to me. Apparently (a trainee midwife friend of a friend told me) it would only take an ambulance 6 mins to get to me then get me to St.G's if there was an emergency. Isn't St.Thomas's miles away? How can they tell you to go there? I think Kingston would be my next closest hospital but not near enough if there was an emergency.

I don't know Streatham at all I'm afraid Don't get out much In fact I only found out about 6 months ago that Streatham isn't that far from me Actually I think I went to the ice rink once or twice when I was a teenager

I'm really concerned about what you said now. I was all excited about my HB plans. Maybe I'll look into a birth centre. Not sure if there's one round here Maybe because I had a C-section last time round they automatically put me with Ivory?

Boobz · 19/08/2008 16:46

Hi Fruity you're right it is ridiculous to have to go to a hospital much further away because of the catchment area, but I don't think I can argue as she said it was how it all works out (Streatham is in Lambeth, so all HBs for Lambeth are done in either Kings or Thommies). Unless you know different? Where did your 3 friends live?

FruitynNutty · 19/08/2008 16:51

2 in Colliers Wood (which is right next to Merton Abbey) and 1 in Mitcham (which is further from St.G's than me!) I live 5-10 mins walk from all 3 of them. I'm glad you told me as my booking in is this Friday. I think if the midwife was to tell me this I would be so dumbstruck I wouldn't be able to say anything. At least I can fight with her now

Boobz · 19/08/2008 16:53

I think you'll be fine as you're in the right catchment.

Will let you know how I get on with Thommies.

A

FruitynNutty · 19/08/2008 16:55

Oh I hope so! And yes please Boobz I like a good birth story
You'll find me on Emmsy's BFP's thread

meep · 19/08/2008 19:19

Mollie - really sorry to hear your news - hope you're okay.

Boobz you scan pic is amazing - much better than what we could see at 7 weeks!

I'm booking a nuchal scan again this time round. We only get a 12 week dating scan on the nhs. Given my (ahem) advanced age we're happy to pay for one (not cheap though!). Last time we paid for a 20 week scan too - it was incredible, I actually saw dd kick me and that's when I put realised that the feelings were actually her!

DD was up for 2 hours in the middle of last night - think there is another tooth on the way. Am exhausted today - looked awful all day at work. Roll on teh 2nd trimester!

auntyspan · 19/08/2008 23:41

meep I have booked my private nuchal fold - are you having the blood tests too? Pricey though isn't it?!

re: home birth - because of my previous c-section I was told the best I could do was got for the birthing centre attached to the maternity ward (not that I was even contemplating it after DD's birth I'm afraid... i want to be as close as possible to the drugs / surgeons / etc!) - I wonder if that was why the page was skipped Boobz?

OP posts:
Boobz · 20/08/2008 09:30

All my bloods and scans (nuchal etc) are all free -- the scan pics were free too...

Aunty -- the page was skipped because with the Ivory team at St George's, the only birth you can have is a hospital one... she didn't realised what I was planning but was totally lovely when I said I wanted a HWB and pointed me in the right direction.

Am exhausted again and I have meetings all day. Bum.

auntyspan · 20/08/2008 09:33

Ah I see now Boobz and good for you...

tis my last day at work before jetting off to Majorca on Friday morning so plan to write handover notes and then surf on Mumsnet!

OP posts:
babyinbelly · 20/08/2008 10:57

Good luck aunty. I went to majorca when 13wks pg with ds1 and felt sick all the way there. Throughout hol pretty much stayed in bed and when did venture out was sick! Then felt sick and couldn't get comfy all the home!!!

I'm sure you'll be fine tho. How many weeks are you?

Zebraa · 20/08/2008 12:13

Hello ladies,

I'm 8 weeks gone with my second. My DS is 9 months old... bring it on! x

MKG · 20/08/2008 13:07

Good morning everyone!. Yesterday was about the shittiest day every, but I'm well rested and feel a ton better.

Am officially 11 weeks and I can't believe that next Tuesday I'll have my scan. This time is really flying by.

barbie1 · 20/08/2008 13:56

hello girls, well im glad to say everything is settled here, the husband is back and no more bleeding, pains or any other nasties! went to se my mid wife yesterday and found im due in april, doh! but if you dont mind im going to stay here because its only a few days into april and im sure a few of you will be overdue to keep my company! im seven weeks and 3 day today and feel fine...is is sad that im wanting morning sickness? i guess after all the trauma i want a physical sign to say im still pregnant, it anyone else not getting sick still?
PS sorry mollie, love hugs and bundles of kisses coming your way x

laweaselmys · 20/08/2008 14:42

Really sorry for your loss Mollie, must've been a huge shock and very disappointing.

My morning sickness etc is in another good patch where it doesn't hit me much except at dinner time. I just want to say that my DP is amazing! He has made dinner for me pretty much every day since I started getting MS so I can sit down, and was saying to him how useless I felt last night, because even though I am home alone a lot of the time and feel I should be doing the brunt of the housework I am so tired I haven't been doing much and worrying about how I will cope when the DC is here... so he said he was going to make sure he did as much of the night time stuff as he possibly could to make sure I could get more sleep. Don't know if it will work out like this, but I really appreciate the thought, and how lovely and understanding he is being.

Boobz · 20/08/2008 16:23

Wow - my husband left for work today with the words "going to rugby after work - make sure there is something on the table for once when I get home"...

and then winked.

He's the cook in this house anyway - am even less likely to start now I'm pregnant.

Did get taken out for a scrummy lunch today though (work thing) and mourned the lack of wine which so often accompanies these boozy lunches.

No morning sickness at all (touch wood).

Starshinetiger · 20/08/2008 16:39

Hi All, Barbie - glad you had a good mw appt.
MKG - sorry for shitty day yesterday, but 11 weeks - doesn't time fly?!
LWM - I know what you mean about DHs - mine is doing so much at home at the mo, but I'm counting on MS easing by 16 weeks like it did last time and I know then I'll do my share (last time, we were decorating the house, so if I was fine to do that, I'm sure I can clean ). If it reassures you any, I know I've read someone on here say before that even the tiredness you get with a newborn doesn't compare with the all-encompassing exhaustion and morning sickness associated with early pregnancy. Feel free to remind me of this when the time comes, but I'm looking forward to that part compared to how I feel now. mind you, I used to springclean my house once a week before I had DS and since then, it's become far less of an obsession!!
Having said that, I do remember my DH sitting with DS in his arms for 2 hours one night, just so I could get some sleep - DHs can be really lovely can't they!

MKG · 20/08/2008 16:48

Totally agree about the exhaustion. Having a newborn in no way compares to the exhaustion of being pregnant. Being pregnant you may have exhaustion, with sickness, food issue etc. Having a newborn is nothing. Figure if you don't have any other children you sleep when the baby sleeps, and a cup of coffee in the morning (or a pot throughout the day like me) and a good shower make you feel human.

And it's only with the first baby that you feel so exhausted. When you have your second you are used to waking up in the night and your ear is trained to hear it. With ds1 I needed a monitor to hear him in the night (he's in the next room) and I always felt destroyed.

With ds2 I can close all the doors and still know when he's up. And those first few days were so much easier, because I was used to having some nights of interrupted sleep. Actually the first night with him was wonderful. He slept (in my armpit, poor guy) for 7 hours our first night home. In the hospital he cried all night.
