Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
calsworld · 20/08/2008 20:04

Hi all, MKG, good to read your comments on DS2 being easier, I've been a bit nervous about how I'm going to cope with a newborn and an active toddler around the place because like you say, I slept loads during the day with DS1, everytime he napped, I did too but that's not going to happen this time.

I have no support either, at least, very little as stupidly DH and I decided to settle 2.5 hrs drive from his parents and 3.5 hrs drive from mine...but am cheered by your reassurances!

I def. sleep very lightly these days, and am quite good at going back to sleep. Since getting pg I've been waking at between 3.30 and 4.30am (every day, without fail) for a wee...so on the way back to bed I stick my head round DS door, quite often he's kicked his covers off so I snuggle him back up again and its meaning that he's sleeping later and not waking up because of being cold , bonus!

lolianja · 20/08/2008 20:23

Hello all. Just thought I'd pop my head in, recently registered! I'm recently turned 20, this is my first baby and I'm due on March 2nd. Had a very easy pregnancy so far, minus one small scare at 8 weeks that thankfully amounted to nothing. My 12 week scan was this afternoon and was given a Down's probability of 1 in 24,000 so very relieved indeed and overwhelmed (in a good way) at seeing the little one.

laweaselmys · 20/08/2008 22:00

hello, lolianja! hope you're enjoying yourself.

I told DP I'd been complimenting him on how well he's taking care of him and the promises he's made and he now lives in fear of your scorn if he doesn't live up to it. Hee hee.

MKG · 20/08/2008 22:47

Lolianja--Congratulations and Welcome!!!

Calsworld--I found having 21 months old ds and a newborn ok in the beginning. The key is to get out as often and as early as you can. I made play dates where I would go to friends houses or invite them over just to keep him occupied. He's also extremely independent, and has always been happy to play by himself though. Even just getting in the stroller and walking up the street was an adventure. I also just sat and watched him destroy the house as I fed ds2.

My advice would be to get them as independent as possible. Example, walk down the stairs without holding hands, climbing in and out of cars. This stuff may sound no brainer but a friend of mine just had a baby and her 4 year can't do those things on her. Things that my ds learned to do at 18 months. I also think that the more independent they are the easier the adjustment is.

Ds didn't need me for much, so when ds2 came he wasn't that phased or threatened that someone came and used my time more.

Man I'm the queen of long posts today.

MKG · 21/08/2008 02:04

OK tonight I made baked ziti for dinner. I love it's one of my favorites. So I sat down to eat and guess what. I was like, this is the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted.

I'm thinking this one will be pink, because with ds1 and ds2 I didn't meet a food I didn't love.

lizziemun · 21/08/2008 07:31

MKG

With my last pg i hated food all the way through, i only ate plain food at meal times because i had to eat IYKWIM.

Can i ask what Baked Ziti is.

Boobz · 21/08/2008 08:50

It's no good. I can't stand it any more. I am going to clean this house to within an inch of its life.

See you in 5 hours.

meep · 21/08/2008 09:16

Yes - what is baked ziti - i want to try it!

My MS has subsided - hooray - but it also makes me scared. I know it is exactly the same as with dd but I still worry because of my early bleed. But what will be will be.

Great to hearthe stories about number 2 being easier. MKG, I will have a 20month age gap - so you have filled me with hope! I keep nagging nursery to get dd walking as much as possible - they assure me that they do, mainly because they can move her into the tweenie roon once she is steady on her feet!

MKG - what did you do about transporting your 2 around in the early stages. I don't want to spend a fortune on another pram (having bought a ridiculously priced one for dd - pfb moment!). I was thinking a sling and buggy for dd when she needs it and a cheap double buggy for any long walks?

My vivid dreams are getting worse - last night I was snogging Rex from Big Brother - now I don't find him attractive at all - strange things these pregnancy hormones!

Hi Lolianja and welcome!

Enjoy your big clean Boobz!

calsworld · 21/08/2008 09:17

Boobz - can I introduce you to my home??? I have neither the energy nor the inclination to do any cleaning. I'm also massively behind on the washing and am going to have to pull my finger out tonight otherwise neither DS or I will have any clothes to take away with us this weekend!!

MKG - I'm also curious about this ziti. DS is quite good at going up and downstairs under his own steam when he wants to, but if I want him to go downstairs he runs away unless I carry him....I'm working on it as I won't be able to manage him in later pg let alone with a newborn. He's quite good at climbing in the car but I've got quite a tall back seat and he can't get into his car seat by himself yet. At least if he climbs in by himself I guess he won't be running round the car park!

My main problem is that as a full time WOHM I don't actually have any friends with children, its really hard to stay in touch when I'm never able to join in with anything too

My mum is utterly convinced I must be having a girl as I'm not suffering from MS like I did first time round, although I've been worse this week than at any other time, so I hope it doesn't continue to worsen!

calsworld · 21/08/2008 09:18

x-posted meep - I'm with you on the weird dreams! I quite like them actually !

meep · 21/08/2008 09:35

Ha ha - I know what you mean calsworld - my dreams can be quite (ahem) colouful !

MKG · 21/08/2008 13:05

Ok- how can you not know what baked ziti is? What planet do you live on?

It is basically

Ziti noodles (you do know what those are?) if you don't have them penne pasta is the best substitute.
1 lb. ground beef
2 28 oz jars of marinara sauce
2 cups of ricotta cheese
16 oz grated mozarella cheese
2 tsp of dried basil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

First cook the noodles. Strain it, pour cold water on it and set aside. In the pasta pot brown the meat, when brown add the marinara sauce, simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the noodles into the mixture after the 10 minutes is over. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a separate bowl mix the ricotta cheese, 2 cups of the mozarella cheese (make sure there is some left over), bail, salt, black pepper.

in a 13 by 9 inch baking dish put in half the noodle mixture. Cover that with the cheese mixture, cover the cheese mixture with the rest of the noodles. Sprinkle the rest of the mozarella cheese over the noodles. cover with foils and bake for 25 mintues. What is left is a cheesey heaven for your mouth.

I feel so cool to do that from memory.

MKG · 21/08/2008 13:08

Here is a picture. Oh you can add any thing you to, you can trade beef for chicken or fish, add veggies, me I'm a purist.

MKG · 21/08/2008 13:12

Cal--I would also recommend investing in a slow cooker if you don't already have one. It is a life saver in the early days. When both boys were napping in the morning I would prep dinner and put in the slow cooker. That way when dinner time came and all hell was breaking loose I wasn't searching for something to make.

Also find recipes that are one pot recipes so you don't have a ton of cleanup, oh and soups in a jar are a life saver. You get all the dry ingredients included and then you add the the wet/fresh ingredients. I have a book that helps you make your own.

Having at least one meal planned out and prepped, saved my sanity.

ceedub · 21/08/2008 14:08

Hi everyone, just thought I'd post some good news - had my scan this morning (12+2) and everything was great! We saw our little baby wriggling about for ten minutes and it was such a relief to see it developing exactly as it should. The NT test came back very low risk (I'm 34 and we opted to have it) and all the measurements were bang on for this stage.

DP and I couldn't stop grinning and peering at the little printout - still can't quite believe that's inside me, but am so excited nonetheless.

Good luck to everyone else for your scans - all of a sudden, it seems real - I'm going to have a baby in March!

TantiK · 21/08/2008 14:19

Hi all - I am so jealous of everyone having their scans. I'm still only 8.5, so have to wait. I am also in Rome and tried to phone for a scan and couldn't get one until 9th Oct! I am on holiday at the moment so will try and pull a few strings once I am back in Rome to speak to people face to face (my Italian isn't even that great!).

The dreams are so strange - I had some really vivid ones in the early days and had another the other night about an Italian millionaire (not even that attractive) - I certainly couldn't give the details to my hubby! The next day I saw a picture of said Italian in papers and it felt very weird! lol

I am currently feeling sick/nauseaus all day. Am having to keep eating - any tips on stuff I can eat which may actually ahve some nutritional value!!! So far have only been sick once two weeks ago, but this constant eating is starting to worry me!

Boobz · 21/08/2008 14:27

Er, things didn't go according to plan. I got up stairs and started to strip the bed, when the dog jumped on it and nestled into the covers. "That looks nice" I think, and get in too.

Fast forward 5 hours and I finally get up (having had LOTS of strange dreams) and have beans on toast in front of the Olympics (which I am still sitting in front of).

Ooops.

First of 100 washing loads is on though. Also going away for the weekend Cals - off to a wedding, and DH won't have any pants at this rate.

Must must must get off my arse.

Slickbird · 21/08/2008 14:36

Boobz, hee hee. Good for you! If you were really have meant to have done your nesting clean, you would have done it, sleep must have been the order of the day!! (I tend to have one at the beginning of the pregnancy and one at the end - all the inbetween I leave to my DH!! )

I have my scan tomorrow and am both nervous and excited. Just hope that everything is fine and that it is only one!!

babyinbelly · 21/08/2008 14:37

Hi everyone. Weird that you are talking about vivid dreams. Mine started early this week and again I couldn't discuss with dp. Keep dreaming about my ex! Is this just a sign of pg or can it indicate babys sex?

Got my scan tomo. Been a long wait.

babyinbelly · 21/08/2008 14:39

Slickbird - I am hoping there's 2!

Slickbird · 21/08/2008 14:43

babyinbelly - good luck with that!! I am only hoping for one as I already have a hecktic 7yr old and an 11 month old and that's quite enough for me! Let us know how you get on.

babyinbelly · 21/08/2008 14:47

I can understand that! I have a 2yo but he's no problem really and spends a lot of time at his dads house. (different to this babys dad). I think twins would be lovely (although obviously hardwork) however, think its unlikely.

Good luck with your scan tomorrow. Mines not until 4.20pm so will be trying to stay sane all day.

emma2617 · 21/08/2008 16:05

Quick question ladies...I have ordered a little baby set of 2 babygrows and a pair of socks!! Just because I have had my scan and I will be 12 weeks on Saturday

What do you think? Woman at work has just said that I shouldn't buy anything at all...but I personally don't believe in all that supersticion stuff, if things are gonna go wrong they will whether or not I have bought a couple of babygrows.

Slickbird · 21/08/2008 16:16

I think it's nice to buy a couple of wee token things to get you excited, and why not, especially if it is your first!

I was reluctant to buy too much before the baby was here, but many people do, and if God forbid anything goes wrong, I've heard it can help the healing process, so you do what you feel is good for you! Enjoy wandering round all the gorgeous baby clothes and goodies departments - it's fab. And if it's your first, there's nothing like it!

lizziemun · 21/08/2008 16:30

Thanks MKG

Oh you mean pasta bake.

'Ziti' has always meant a spotty teenager to me .

I will need to buy some clothes for this one as i have given away all my baby clothes as i wasn't having anymore. Luckly i have all the equipment so that will save money although i think i need to invest in a double buggy as dd2 is only 11mths and i walk every where i think i'll need one.
