Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinny · 13/08/2008 18:04

yes, do, Boobz, as you may well have different antenatal care - with my ds I had community midwife care and all my antenatal apps at home

calsworld · 13/08/2008 19:10

Boobz, dinny is right, and don't worry if you think you might change your mind - you can do that right up to the point that you go into labour and even during labour !

I didn't decide on a homebirth till 16 weeks when I had a mw who discussed it with me, the one I saw at my first appt. just laughed and said there was plenty of time for me to give it some proper thought . But my MW's were crap. I really hope they're better this time.

MKG · 13/08/2008 19:34

As far as the age thing is concerned, it all depends on the person. My aunt had her first baby when she was 43. She is now 15 and her favorite hobby is knitting. She grew up in a house where no shouting was allowed and she was not allowed to touch the walls either.

Me the "young" one, well I let my kids jump on the furniture (it's just stuff and it's old and used anyway) Besides they were both conceived on the couch, they should be allowed to jump on it if they like .

I don't think anyone is ever "ready". I truly believe that we will never have enough space, time, or money. So it basically comes down to letting fate decide. Every addition to our little family wasn't planned, but very welcomed. If that makes any sense.

I don't know I've just spend 3 hours in traffic court with dh and the boys and I'm not seeing quite right as I'm so tired.

Mandy73 · 13/08/2008 19:39

Boobz, I've just come back from my booking appt amd MW did ask about my thoughts on birth choices.
I said we have a strong wish for an elective CS although v much aware of the risks involved, knowing there are no guarantees in life etc (thing is both DH and I have younger relatives v damaged during VB so a bit of a shared trauma and something we've put a lot of thought into). And she really surprised me by agreeing and referring me to consultant-led care & CS with a great OB!
It's like a massive weight coming off and I'm almost as happy now as the night we found out about the PG.
(sorry about the essay! Hope everyone's OK. xx)

My big reason for having children younger is because my mom told us to. She had a hysterectomy at 36 due to a tumor in her uterus, my aunt at a uteran tumor at 45, and my grandmother died with one the size of a grapefruit in her uterus.

So with my family history, I thought it was better do it sooner rather than later.

Slickbird · 13/08/2008 20:45

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and today is the first day where, so far, I have only thrown up once - that's down from 4 times a day - dare I hope that it might ease or am I just having a 'good' day? I still feel sick, and the eve's not over, but def better than I've been. My last two pregs I threw up til 21 weeks. I just can't imagine getting lucky and it getting better at 12?? Anyone think there's a chance??! (Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes....)

Slickbird · 13/08/2008 21:40

Take it back. Just threw up again....

Mummyof3and1angel · 13/08/2008 22:10

I had my ds when i was 16 dd when i was 17 i had a still born dd at 19 and had another dd at 20 im currently pregnant again my dc are well looked after and i do not claim any benefits only what every mummy is entitled to ..me and my dp have been together for 7 years and is the father to all my children he has a full time excellent paid job even though we do private rent our house..

im a full time mummy as u can probably guess but i dont regret it and wouldnt change it for the world im not saying its easy at all my children might not have everything they want but they have all my love and everything they need thats the most important thing ever.

just had to add that information as people have been commenting about age ..

Mummyof3and1angel · 13/08/2008 22:16

oh and forgot to say i think its great being a young mum cause you get to watch your children grow up and have children of there own im not saying older mums cant do that but you know what i mean..we can go out shopping with them without them being embarressed..more of a chance of becoming best friends with your children because you can understand them more etc ..also about not having a career if you have children young by the time they have grown up old enough to look after themselves we will still be young enough to persue a career .

im not judging anyone just putting my reasons of why it is so fun being a young mum

Boobz · 14/08/2008 10:06

Morning ladies!

Just been for my dating scan and the rumours are true - I really am pregnant! 9 weeks today, which is exactly what I thought, which makes my EDD 19th March which is what I guestimated all those weeks ago when I joined this thread.

Yip yip! Everything normal: gestational sac, yolk sac, amniotic sac, all present and correct. Didn't get to hear the heartbeat but my notes say "positive" so assume it's ticking along nicely.

Have got a picture but hubby took it to his work to show people, as I work from home and don't have anyone to show it to!

So there you are. A real live baby. Still can't quite fathom that I am capable of making one but I s'pose it's not that uncommon.

Good luck with all your scans coming up!

emma2617 · 14/08/2008 10:43

Boobz I had heard those rumours!! Glad you can now confirm for us! I couldn't stop smiling at my scan, and I want another one already!

Hope everyone is doing well today...I am so incredibly tired and have to pack a 3 bed semi this weekend as I am moving house next weekend and have only packed one box who's clever idea was this?!

lollipopz · 14/08/2008 10:44

Hey all! Just a lovely wee thought for today: Mother's Day is the 22nd of March next year! ome of us will be mummies by then!
L xx

emma2617 · 14/08/2008 10:48

lollipopz I had not thought of that...and a girl at worked asked me only an hour ago when mothers day was!! That has made me happy Thanks! Well, if I am not a mummy by then I will be fat and grumpy and 2 weeks overdue!!

CaptainKarvol · 14/08/2008 11:25

Aww, that's my due date Fully expecting to be fat and overdue - I was 40+7 last time. But I can dream of a nice 39 week pregnancy, can't I?

annandcait · 14/08/2008 11:53

TWOCUTEDARLINGS Re: the sickness - I had all day sickness with 3 of my girls and hyperemises (sp?) with the 4th. I found a combo of careful food planning (wheat and sugar, and anything spicy were triggers), and I used a morning sickness relief CD and herbal tea which got me through the worst of it

I hope you are feeling better soon

xAAC

MKG · 14/08/2008 12:03

Our mothers day is always in May so if I'm still pregnant then, I'll shoot someone. Hopefully I'll have another 39 week pregnancy. I don't know what it feels like to be 40 weeks pregnant. I kinda do want to know what it's like to go overdue.

Boobz--glad the scan went well.

Boobz · 14/08/2008 12:36

Thanks MKG, Emma. I am walking on thin air. 3 weeks now until the Nuchal scan at 12 weeks and I can't wait. Am now convinced something terrible is going to happen between now and then - my poor body can't win! Not normally a glass half full person, but still can't believe my body can do this very complicated thing.

Has anyone else posted scan pictures yet? Is that a bit sad at this early stage?

calsworld · 14/08/2008 13:32

I was born on Mothers Day - 21st March and then four years later so was my sister, on the 16th of March!

I think my true EDD this time will be later, nearer the end of the month (Grandad's birthday 31st March and elder sister's 1st April)! Busy (and expensive) time in my family. Both my sister's DH's have birthdays in March and early April too.

MKG - My DS was in the minority and born on his due date! Goodness knows what to expect this time around!

lollipopz · 14/08/2008 13:46

I really can't guess if I will be early or late! DD1 was 11 days late dd 2 was 8 days early and ds was 1 day late (he arrived in the early hours of christmas morning!)
I think its always best to expect to be late then u won't be too dissapointed if u r late!
At least I know it won't be xmas again!
L xx

emma2617 · 14/08/2008 14:36

You see I think I am in for disappointment, I am planning for a 7lber at 37 weeks!! What a naive first timer I am!!!! I know this is unlikely, but the thought of a big baby just sends me into a panic!

I am not having a good day today, am feeling exceptionally tired, my whole body is aching and I am really off most food. I just seem to graze all day and don't commit to a meal, just pick at about 10 different things!

Boobz · 14/08/2008 14:44

Isn't Amazon wonderful? I ordered 7 baby / pregnancy / birth books yesterday at 4PM and they've just all arrived bar one (the hypno-birthing one). I don't know which one to start first!

laweaselmys · 14/08/2008 14:48

Well I am eating a packet of salted peanuts and laughing at the NHS guidelines. (I know, they're for my own good, but I love nuts and have been going slowly insane without them.)

Is anyone else contemplating an elected c-section? Have possible health risks and a massive totally justified fear of hospitals. I wanted to wait until I found out if the baby was going to be an awkward breech or not to decide if I really wanted to do it. That won't make it too late to choose a c-section will it?

Boobz · 14/08/2008 15:04

There is a huge thread on the child birth topic about an elective c-section request - makes interesting reading if only for people's reactions and how heated it can get talking about birth choices!

Not sure but think you can decide quite late in the day.

lizziemun · 14/08/2008 15:49

our babies will arrive when they are cooked.

DD1 was born at 39weeks and was 9lb 4oz and DD2 was born at 41+1 (induced) and was 9lb 2oz.

laweaselmys dd2 was breach and i had her turned (ECV) and then i was induced with her as there was no way i wanted a c-section.
