I see everyone is enjoying the joys of the third trimester!

bethoo pains down leg - had this with dd she was positioned on my sacrialliac joint. Got so bad I couldn't walk properly for three weeks - v. painful. Hope you don't have this and only general pg pains.

lozza70 thank you for raising a smile with the 'willy wigwams'!

Went for 34 week check - told I am measuring borderline too big (37 inches) now have to go for another scan.

Is anyone else feeling utterly exhausted with lots of pain around groin area? Hate coming on to winge but feel completely crap this week, not able to do much. Dh has been a star picking up on housecleaning, looking after kids etc.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2008 21:27

I'm planning my busiest month in ages in Sept myjob! Will be trekking into London on 20th Sept for girls' night out (one of attendees is a doula, so I'll be in good hands if anything happens whilst there ), having a local girls' night out on 26th Sept, taking dh out for b'day dinner on 27th, and having a big family lunch at in-laws on 28th.

sambrads - weight estimates always seem to be very wrong, so I wouldn't worry too much. Am surprised that my hospital have never done one with all the growth scans that I've had. Might ask them just out of curiousity when I have my next one next week.

Cheap blankets from supermarkets Star. MIL got one for dd for £1 from Sainsbury's! I like the ones with the little holes all over them.

BJ - I wouldn't take anything to clean belly button. It will still have part of the cord attached for a few days until it drops off, so you can't really clean it until then.

star - I've got square cotton blankets from tesco, sainsburys and pumpkin patch - they are all ideal for swaddling in the early weeks. they aren't very thick but the heat in the ward you don't need anything too thick.

once baby is the right weight (can't remember what it is now) he'll transfer to sleeping bags. They've all cost me about £5 to £8 each (I've only bought 2 this time as have all dds). Also got a fleecy one from sainsburys for covering carseat; using in pram.

It's nearly time for the annual NCT nearly new sales - for some reason most of them seem to happen in september, so might be worth joining the queues to get some bargains.

ajm200 · 26/08/2008 21:28

For cheap blankets check out www.kiddicare.com or www.thebabycatalogue.com both are good for cheap baby stuff. I haven't looked recently but have seen them selling cheap blankets before. Cheaper than mothercare. At mothercare, you'll pay about 10-12 quid each for them.

I'm lucky that my nan taught me to knit and crochet when I was a child so I've been putting my spare time to good use and have made a few.

Don't forget to take lots of change as some hospitals charge for the telly as well as the phone.

bethoo · 26/08/2008 21:33

i still have blankets from the hospital! never realised unti i saw the Salibury hospital logo tuype thing printed on them! may take them back and re use them for the next baby then leave them.

ronshar · 26/08/2008 22:54

Had midwife check today, 34 weeks. Finally baby is head down, but not engaged still free! I said I was worried about C-section for a breech and midwife told me that for first time mum they always section if a diagnosed breech but for a multip mum then they will let you labour naturally.
So that is good news because as she stated very matter of factly that there was still plenty of time for baby to turn back again.
So touch wood my home birth is still a goer.
I havent packed a bag but I do remember that with DD1 I completely forgot a change of clothes for myself and had to phone DH to bring in some clean trousers as I had wet mine with the copious amount of fluid that left me over the space of about 1 hour!!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/08/2008 09:39

morning - I'm planning on going to my SIL's wedding 3 days before EDD, am I completely crazy?! she's in coventry and we live in London, she'll have three doctors at the wedding and we'll check out the local maternity unit beforehand just in case. She's really lovely though and says it's fine for me to decide literally on the day if I feel up to it - I want DH to go regardless but then having panic attacks about me going into labour and him stuck in the midlands!

Good news about position ronshar, fingers crossed baby stays that way

Really ought to start thinking about packing maternity bag - tip, in Boots they're doing 3 for 2 on all herbal remedies and vitamins, incluing things like tea tree oil and lavender oil, so I'm buying it all up

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:00

GirlWithTheMouseyHair You could try grabbing some clary sage oil while you are there. It's supposed to help bring on labour if you overdue and breathing in the vapours are supposed to help in early labour. Works a bit like gas and air.

ronshar · 27/08/2008 10:02

Dont forget the Arnica GWTMH. It really does help to reduce the swelling and potential for tears. UH OH I cant spell again. It is getting bad.
Lucky I dont work or I would have got the sack by now

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:03

Not having a great day. LO ate some berries in the garden yesterday that luckily aren't poisonous but he's got a very upset tummy today. I feel like such a crap mother. I only nipped to loo and left him for a minute as i couldn't catch him to bring him in and my bladder was about to burst

Also go horrible pain in my hip and leg after slipping on a kerb so not very mobile today... only about 56 days to go though - hurray!

bethoo · 27/08/2008 10:07

56 days sounds like a long time!

i might have a look for this sage stuff too if it helps like g&a. would htey let you take it at the hospital?

my mw said pethidine did not work! if so why do they offer it?

i am off to a wedding reception 2 days before my due date! how inconsiderate of our friends!

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:15

My friend swears by petidine, used it for both of her births but only used half doses as it made her very out of it.

The oil is just an essential oil, I can't see them objecting. A MW told me about it. Either mix it with another oil for massage or put some on a wet flannel and breath it in.

56 days does sound like a long time, but it's better than two months... from Monday we can say our babies are due next month!! Where did the time go?

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:17

Have fun at the wedding. Have you found something nice to wear.. not too easy at this late stage is it.

I don't envy you. Last time a friends mum died a few days before I had to go into hospital to be induced. The church pews definately weren't made for pregnant women.

bethoo · 27/08/2008 10:21

i think i will wear what i wore to my other mates wedding several weeks ago! leggings with knee high boots with a long black and white horizontal striped t-shirt.
no point in investing in a maternity dress now me thinks.

ronshar · 27/08/2008 10:37

Bethoo, I would offer you one of my dressses but you are much smaller than me so it would fall of you

Ajm, sorry to hear you are feeling crappy. I havent worked out the days yet but I shall now just to scare myself

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:37

I agree that getting a dress at this stage might be a waste especially as it is so close to your EDD and you might have your baby before the party. I'm impressed that you can still get into knee high boots at with a few weeks to go. Wow..

I bet lots of mums on here will be dead jealous. At this stage with my son I could only wear flipflops along with the majority of my antenatal class as our feet were so swollen. It was two years ago though and a very hot summer. I probably could get away with it this time but haven't got any decent shoes after my LO flooded the downstairs loo which held the shoe rack and all my good shoes.

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 10:39

If you go to www.tickerfactory.com they do a ticker that works out the number of weeks you are at and how many days are left. That's how I know.

ronshar · 27/08/2008 10:41

41 days!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG

ronshar · 27/08/2008 10:42

All your shoes. That would have made me cry.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/08/2008 11:01

oh clary sage oil is a brilliant idea - didn't realise it was good for massaging during labour too! thank you - sadly they're arnica tablets aren't part of the deal (cheapskates)

i'd heard pethadine doesn't work in terms of it doesn't take the pain away, just relaxes you between contractions so I want to stay well away to be honest...too many drugs when i was younger I know I'll just get paranoid that I'll start tripping or something equally as ridiculous! isn't it pethadine that makes your baby come out all sleepy and groggy too? or am I just reading far too many horror stories?!

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 11:02

41 days... wow.. Definately time to pack your hospital bag as the baby is full term at 38 weeks so could be as soon as 27 days.. how exciting!

As for the shoes, it was about time that I got some new ones so I wasn't too upset. I was more upset as having to pull up the carpets and chuck them out. The timing couldn't have been worse. He did try to clean it up with the taps still on full and looks so panicked when i found it that I couldn't be cross.

bethoo · 27/08/2008 11:10

40 days to go though i like the sound of 5 weeks adn 5 days better! sounds shorter then it will be a month on the 6 sept! but like you said am full term at 37 weeks in 19 days! aaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh

i must confess that i live in trainers, partly because i walk everywhere but on special occassions i wear heels. i am fortunate that i do not swell at my feet, the bits that do are not on show!

bethoo · 27/08/2008 11:11

ajm mw said classed as full term at 37, any babies born before that are classed as prem but anything after 37 weeks is not.

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 11:26

I had my son at 37 weeks last time round. This time, I'm planning a homebirth and they will only let me have my baby at home after 38 weeks as they don't feel it is safe at home until then. Odd the little rules that they make up isn't it.
