Afternoon everyone arent we all doing well time is passing quickly now we will soon be having birth announcements i wonder who will be first?

Lozzo thanks for the info on blankets and for the laugh willy wigwams whatever next.

Not getting enough sleep at the moment as baby and bladder wake me early and am not able to return to sleep when ds goes back to school it will be better as dh takes him and I can return to bed, only five more days to go.

jenwa · 27/08/2008 12:34

I have hurt my back. Think prob overdone it again. Did car boot sun (lots of bending and sitting awkward, mowed lawn mon, hoovered yest and been picking up DD and pushing her in swing yest at park and it was hurting then. Also sat on picnic bench mon eve and yest and dont think they help my back at all. Desperatley trying to keep house tidy whilst DH converting loft and making mess, cant keep on top off it all and hate mess!!!!
Had tummy pains yest and back ache but just the back today and baby keeps moving right down at the bottom and then pushing out against me and feels uncomfy.

Dont like to moan but uncomfy today. Got MW this afty.

rosebury · 27/08/2008 12:58

Back again has anyone thought about the vitamin k injection given to babies just after birth does anyone know the reasons for and against?

07mumstheword · 27/08/2008 13:38

Rosebury I'm no expert but Vit K is given as a matter of course I believe as some babies are born without enough of it (it helps the blood in some way I think) as there is no way in telling which babies need it they give it to all new borns.

Pethadine is the one drug I said I didn't want on my birth plan last time as MW had told me it was no good and drugged baby too (scared life out of me ) but I had pethadine during last labour as it was all I was allowed on top of gas & air, and I needed something!!

I think it helped lots but it did make me out of it. My DD was a bit sleepy for a day or so after too (apparently a side effect) but that was a good thing as we both got rest

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/08/2008 14:25

have heard you have a choice with vit K either as an injection or a course of oral tablets...haven't even thought about what we'll do...nor about placenta injection...any thoughts?

caramelbunny · 27/08/2008 14:54

Can't believe we're on the final countdown already. I'm 32+1 today and my daughter was born at 32+4 so it's an anxious time! Especially as we are currently living in a house that resembles a building site. Looking forward to the first birth announcements.

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 15:13

Caramel You are only one day ahead of me. I was beginning to think I'd be the only one left on this group by the end of Oct when my LO is due.

Don't worry too much as it isn't good for either of you. This LO is probably far too comfy to make an early appearance. Lots of us have been working out the number of days and there just aren't enough left

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 15:17

placenta injection I wasn't too sure about having the placenta injection and didn't get the drug from the DR when I was planning my homebirth. Ended up having my DS in hospital and was quite happy for them to use the drip that I was on to get the placenta out quickly. I'd really had enough at that point and just wanted to concentrate on my baby.

We just let DS have the vit K injection too.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/08/2008 15:40

i'm 32+1 today too...fully expecting to have a november baby at this rate!

star6 · 27/08/2008 16:49

Just had my growth scan!! I'm 33+3 today. Baby's head measures 31+4, which is a LOT better than mw's measurement with the tape of 29 weeks!! Feeling much better. They said my bump does look very small, but baby looks healthy and is growing! DH and I are both not big people... so she said we will probably not have a big baby, so not to worry about it being small.
They did spend a good amount of time (20 minutes more) on measuring fluid - there were 2 sonographers and they disagreed about the measurements... in front of DH and I... very unsettling. End result was that it's adequate and if I lose more than usual in a day, to call in straight away, but should be fine. I was on my back on the table for a total of 45 minutes... at 25 minutes, I blinked, saw stars and felt like I was going to be sick right there... felt it rising in my throat, was really dizzy and sweating like crazy (I never sweat!!)... I said, "ummmm, I think I'm going to be sick and I'm dizzy...." she looked up from her screen at my face and said, "OH! turn onto your left side". DH was wiping sweat off of my face...

I think it was part panic and anxiety, part being on back for so long...
BUT, all seems well now, so that's good! Yay!!! Healthy baby!

Star6 Great news that your baby is healthy. Your baby was probably pressing on the artery that runs behind your womb, shame they left you like that for so long.

07mumstheword · 27/08/2008 17:34

Star Really pleased you've got re-assurance even if it was an ordeal, poor you with sickness. Glad all has been confirmed ok with healthy star baby

star6 · 27/08/2008 17:44

oh, and I was too embarrassed to ask... and DH would died if I did... but... by "losing more fluid than usual" they mean... like in my underpants, right?

star6 · 27/08/2008 17:46

Thanks everyone!! So happy now!

Girlwithmousyhair... I heard something about vitamin K injection linked to lukemia?? But DH said it's not well supported research and that drops are more risky because they might then not GET the vitamin K as we would have to administer it ourselves... baby may get sick and lose it...etc. I don't know, I'm anxious about either way, but they need it for blood clotting, so it's a total catch 22!! I'd like to see some statistics...

star6 · 27/08/2008 18:02

go for it pistachio!!! You be the first I'm rooting for you!

jenwa · 27/08/2008 19:10

star great news, bet you are relieved. Poor you feeling ill though during it, bet that was embarrasing! I presume they meant 'wee' when referring to fluid, prob meaning going to the toilet more often?

I saw MW this afty. When I had DD my tummy muscles also tore (sorry star dont want to freak you with more nasty stories!) and apparantly they appear to be torn again! Need to work really hard after baby born to knot them together again. Really dont want saggy tummy syndrome
had bloods taken too so will have to wait for results to check iron. Baby also lay in very strange way, horizontal, so have head down in left groin, bottom in belly button and feet in my side right side. MW said that could be why back is aching due to baby lying accross me .
Get my scan at 34 weeks to check if placenta moved. Have you had yours CSWS?
Cant wait to see baby on screen again. Mum coming this time to see the baby.
ajm whats your due date? I am 20th Oct so 32+ 2 today.

ajm200 · 27/08/2008 19:20

I'm due 23rd October but have already been in once for pre-term labour at 28 weeks so who knows when she'll decide to appear.

jenwa · 27/08/2008 19:22

Oh dear! Fingers crossed she stays put for awhile longer then!

Lozza70 · 27/08/2008 19:42

Quick tip for the day. Sainsburys has a third off all baby stuff until the weekend. Nappies, cotton wool, wipes (for those of you who plan to use), toiletries etc. It even covers maternity pads for Mum so I'm stocking up following advice that you will use 3 times as many as you think you will need!

star6 · 27/08/2008 19:43

jenwa is it special exercises to knot them back together or is it surgery?

Also... went to tesco today to get the dreaded maternity pads for my hospital bag. Are these labeled "maternity pads"? Because I don't see any! I can see super and maxi and night time... I don't usually use pads, so not sure but guessing for after birth you need "night time" (they look the biggest). Or am I totally just missing the actual maternity pads?

star6 · 27/08/2008 19:47

oh, after looking at Lozza's post, I think I have an idea... maybe these maternity pads are in the baby section, not the section with pads/tampons? Thanks Lozza70!! See everyone at Sainsbury!!
