Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
perkypopsy · 26/08/2008 15:55

Hi bethoo and csws Thanks for the info - don't have a cardi so will go grab one - and think have too many suits - have emptied the draws ha ha. Will pop some cotton wool in just in case...oh god feel so out of control and totally clueless - am just waiting for someone to open my bag and piss themselves at what is inside howl howl

CSWS Have moved to Princess Alexandra at Harlow - they say is a small chance that midwife run unit may not be available depending on how busy the main ward is (as is 1:1 in the low risk centre but 1:3 in the main ward). But at least i have my Doula wherever I end up. Got a call from them last friday asking if I'd eaten before my blood tests...i had to admit to a packet of minstrels and a snapple...but did stop them dragging me back in for a diabetes test oops

I too have braxtons - they have even started to ache a bit now (I take this as a good sign?). baby much bigger and more uncomfortable when really gets moving - was back to back next week (joy) - have also been on hands and knees circling my hips infront of TV - the stairs thing is too likely to end in injury with me at the mo...

I wake up every morning all stuffy and swollen and just feeling quite shit - am looking forward to baby coming but am also bloody terrified IYKWIM?

Bethoo - sciatica can cause pain in back but also shooting pain down your leg

pepperrabbit · 26/08/2008 16:26

perky I ran out of sleepsuits AND cotton wool for DS2 and we were only in 1 and half days! I'm taking at least 5 suits and vests (he looked really silly in his going home outfit at teatime the day before we were due to leave....

perkypopsy · 26/08/2008 16:45

you see - I knew it!!!
how is going home outfit different - just snazzier?? oh god the shame of wrapping the new baby in a piece of muslin ha ha

1sttimer80 · 26/08/2008 16:55

HI all,

I haven't posted in ages ... just been so busy. I've finally started my maternity leave and looking forward to nesting. Have bought a few bits and bobs for th elittle one, but as we have to follow tradition, we're not lalowed to brign things into our home apart from absolute essentials. So... all baby's stuff is scattered between my in-laws, my parents and my DH grandparents place! luckily they don;t live that far away from me, and they'll all be there at the hospital as soona s they can so shouldn;t be an effort getting things together.

I;ve been feelign these weird period pain type things on an doff for the past few days. Has anyone felt anything similar?

BlueJellie · 26/08/2008 17:07

Oooh I've been getting period like pains too, but only it I've overdone it that day. Can be a sign of impending labour or if the babys head is getting more engaged I think - don't worry about the labour thing though as my last bout of 'period pains' was 4 days ago and he's still firmly in place lol

pepperrabbit · 26/08/2008 17:08

perky In the cold light of a non hormonal day, the "going home outfit" is a hideous fluffy sleepsuit with Winnie the Pooh on the front and back poppers....
However in the glow of giving birth and presenting a new baby to the world, it's cute.
I can't explain it, but if the DS's both had to wear it, I see no reason why I shouldn't torment DC3 with it

Back poppers - as an aside - why?? why would you have to suspend the baby on it's tummy to do them up (they can't breathe in my experience....)

1stTimer - do you even have a hospital bag or does it only have your stuff in it??
I'd worry about having to take the baby home in a pair of disposible pants...

BlueJellie · 26/08/2008 17:18

quick question! packing my hospital bag: do I need to take anything to clean the babies belly button? Or do they give you something in the hospital?

ajm200 · 26/08/2008 17:25

Best to use cotton wool and cooled boiled water to clean babies belly button.

I agree about taking lots of babygrows especially if you are expecting a boy. They pee whenever their bits get cold, feel a draft, so often whenever the nappy comes off.

Take lots of cotton wool too as you'll get through a lot cleaning of the first poos as they are sticky like marmite.

Also, if you to into hospital early and might end up on the antenatal ward for a while before going to L&D take a pair of earplugs. The ward is a noisy place and you'll need your rest.

Sorry for the triple post, 'helpful' toddler alert... so sorry

sambrads · 26/08/2008 18:20

hello everyone thanks so much for the support

me and ds doing ok he has viral gastritus and so do i but its not as extreme with me .

also told doc about pain im having in belly and back and she told me she thinks the baby is getting ready and that i wont see 40 weeks she also asked " what has the midwives estimated your babies birth weight? "
i told her 9lb and she said the baby is a good 7lbs already and that im looking at 10lbs if full term hopefully wont get that far as i will be very scared at having a baby so big

hansnava · 26/08/2008 18:34

ohhh sticky first poos i remember them at 4am after having csection and couldnt move it ended up everywhere all over my hospital bed, me poor dd.
my advice take vaseline in hospital with u to put on babys bum it stops it sticking so its easier to clean

csws- its not coming from my pelvis. i'll be sitting still and baby would move and there would be a soft clicking sound like when u click ur fingers just a lot quieter.

star6 · 26/08/2008 18:46

Emmsy1 - no, dh is not that obsessive... thank goodness!! Right now I've just gotten home and he's vigorously scrubbing all of the windows!! I'm so proud of him. He's totally "nesting".

I get up at 4.00am because the baby in my belly wants me to get up at 4.00am! He kicks so hard at that time every single day and I have NO CHOICE but to get up and then once I'm up, can't fall back to sleep. I'm used to getting up at 5.30, leaving for work at 6.15/6.30ish and getting there for about 6.45am. I like having that extra time in the morning (I'm a teacher and love mornings and getting all of the organizing/planning..etc done at that time). I know, I'm a nutcase!

twinklytoes · 26/08/2008 18:47

bethoo - glad you're getting everything sorted.

packing the hospital bag - a little tip! if your DH's are anything like mine they won't actually know whats in the bag, so make sure they actually have alook through so when you are shouting for something he'll be able to find it.

I also put the post-birth baby clothes - one nappy, hat, vest, babygrow and blanket in a seperate carrier bag within the bag with strict instructions to DH that that is what he gives the midwife when she asks.

I've packed 4 of everything for baby but maybe I need more if boys are weeing all the time.

I also ran out of blankets (DD2 seemed to wet them) last time and dd2 came home with a fluffy towel wrapped around her. I've packed 5 this time!

Lozza70 · 26/08/2008 19:37

Hi someone asked about where you could get bright blankets. You could try daisyzoo.com I have been able to get some lovely bright clothes and blankets there, bit pricy though.

Glad on the advice going round about hospital bags. Think I have mine sorted but the baby's is a way off at the mo.

hansnava I've had clicking at well but its definately my pelvis not the baby. Maybe your midwife may be able to let you know what it is?

For those of you worried about boys weeing all the time have you heard of willy wigwams?? Apparently you pop them over their private parts when nappy changing and hopefully you avoid being peed over Sounds like a great way of spending your money!!

Sambrads hope you and ypurs are starting to feel better. Ouch at the possibility of a 10 pounder

star6 · 26/08/2008 19:38

what about where can you buy CHEAP blankets? And what kind are best? How much do they cost usually? We have 2 blankets!!

Lozza70 · 26/08/2008 19:51

For cheap blankets I have enlisted the future Great Nan! She has been knitting for the last 5 months so I'm sure we will have more than blankets. Actually going by the family grapevine I think this baby will be kitted out in knitted outfits until at least 18

star6 · 26/08/2008 19:54

That sounds lovely!! Unfortunately, I don't have family nearby.... and no grandparents at all
Maybe we can tell our families overseas that we would like blankets, though - good idea

07mumstheword · 26/08/2008 20:03

Hansanva Great tip about vaseline will def be packing some now

Star You have every right to be proud of your DH he's doing a fantastic nesting job

Twinkly I just had to ask DH who first dressed DD as was so out of it couldn't remember He said midwife dressed her in hospital clothes I am greatful for your tip as will pack "first" clothes in a seperate bag as you suggest.

Sambrads Glad nothing too serious on the illness front but sorry to hear your fears about a 10lb er. Don't worry too much though as I was told I would have an average 7lb er and DD was 9lb 2oz. I've heard of so many ladies having the opposite size to that of what the professionals say.

Lozza My neighbours Mum came over to ask if she could knit some bits for the baby last week. It's very kind of her but I've no idea what I'll be getting

07mumstheword · 26/08/2008 20:12

Lozza Just been checking out willy wigwams might invest in some if it's a boy

A friend of mine used to just put a wet wipe over it but then I suppose that could be a bit cold and make him wee anyway.

rowanmac · 26/08/2008 20:17

I've done my bag, I seem to remember it being really heavy last time and full, this time there isn't anything in it (or so it seems). I'm hoping I'm not being blase, The only thing we ran out of last time was camera batteries so they're in along with a disposable camera. Earplugs are definitely a good idea for the ante natal ward.

My hospital provided cotton wool and water,a gown to start with, the first nappy and blankets/sheets. I remember getting a Bounty bag stuffed with things especially small packs of wipes. Newborns go through nappies like nobodies business. Think of a number and double it. I've taken enough for 24hours after which I'm hoping to be home or DH knows where to find things to bring in.

star6 · 26/08/2008 20:21

ohhhh I LOVE MN!!!!!!!!!!! Willy Wigwams!!! What a name! You girls make me laugh every single day! Thank you!
