has anyone started xmas shopping yet? i was seriously not going to get anything as family tend to go overboard with pressies and my house is tiny, barely got room for his stuff as it is. i was goingto ask family if they would put cash int oan account i will eventually set up for him. i prefer books and clothes for him. am i being tight?
also if i buy pressies for him chances are he will be playing wiht it by the time we get off the bus from town!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 22/08/2008 11:13

morning girls...huge hugs ofr star and loulou, just most agonising thing for you both must be the wait but I would second everyone in letting yourselves be reassured by what the midwives are saying to you and the fact that your scans are next week...

I have to book in my next appt with GP for 34 weeks...not bothered and wish I could continue with the midwives as my shared care has been totally with them so far anyway, only seen my GP to get a permission to fly letter.

Spent yesterday evening with my friends and their 18month old twins, who are adorable but my friends just seem so exhausted and frazzled and just damage controlling...so relieved when they put the girls to bed which hs left me feeling a bit overwhelmed about the whole having a baby thing...I MUST stay away from the parenting thread too

bethoo · 22/08/2008 11:27

i have round red patches on my boobs and tummy, the mw said ooh you have excema but i havenever had it. does anyone else have this? i think it may be hormonal changes causing my skin to do this. bad enough that the guy i work with pointed it out > and i said where? he then virtually touched it on my boob as he was pointing! very awkward!

ronshar · 22/08/2008 11:34

Bugger off with the christmas shopping lady
It is still August. I will not think about christmas until at least September. DD2 birthday 9th Sept so it will have to wait until after then at the very least

I think baby has managed to get itself the right way round. I am pleased as I have midwife on Tuesday and was going to go into full worried mother/homebirth breech panic. I shall be 34+1 then.
Crikey I was just looking for my notes in the draw, and I couldnt find them!!! I have obviously shoved so much rubbish to be sorted out in that draw they got pushed over the top and into the cupboard below. Lucky it wasnt DH looking in an emergency, he would never have found them.
Anyway, my midwife wrote down the weeks at which I should see her. 28,34,36,38,40,41. Is this the same for everyone else??
I have also just measured my fundal height and it is coming up at 31cm. I was 27cm at 27 weeks which is up on the 60th centile for measurements.
The point of what I am saying is that 5 weeks ago I was measuring above ave for dates but now according to measurements I am 2cm smaller than I should be for dates. I know for a fact I am much bigger than I was at the same stage with both DDs. DD1 6lb 13oz at birth, DD2 was 7lb 8oz at birth.
As lots of people have said it is an inexact science and the health professionals use them as guidelines so if a woman is widely smaller or bigger they have an average to measure against.

ronshar · 22/08/2008 11:51

Hormonal skin changes perfectly normal get a lovely tub of cream from GP if you can. It makes your skin so smooth and lovely. I am currently stealing DD2s cream!

Sorry Loulou. I forgot to ask how you are today? I am very impressed that your midwife phoned you up. She is obviously very good at her job. Do think think that baby is all ok then? I do not know much about what you are going through but remember we are all here for you to talk to about what is a worrying time for you and DH.

GWMH, parenting is all about damage control. Get the balance right and it is alot of fun. The best bit of advice I was given by an old lady was not to sweat the small stuff and the big stuff will slowly work itself out. Take one day at a time and it is all ok. Dont panic love, just love your baby, yourself and your DH, everything else is not important.
Rowanmac, internet shop for car seat. There are loads of bargins out there and noone to tell you you cant have it. Have you thought about using those little strap things which keep the shoulder straps together. I think they are avaliable in Great Little Trading Company catalogue. HTH

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 22/08/2008 11:55

thanks ronshar...I'm not totally unaware there will be a huge element of damage control, but think I'm reading too many posts from people having a rubbish day with their children and it all gets a bit scary! good advice though...will write it out to remind myself of it!

ronshar · 22/08/2008 11:59

Ah yes stay away from parents in summer holidays. It really isnt the best time to get a true picture of the joys of parenting. 6 weeks of uninterrupted parenting. It is hard work even with the best children in the world.. Especially when it rains every day! Lucky for me DD2 is at a nursery which doesnt close for holidays so I get a couple of free days a week to do nothing housework mumsnet.

bethoo · 22/08/2008 12:03

i was the same, always looking at other peoples kids and fearing the worst but remember they are not your kids and you will love them unconditionally so you will see what they do through different eyes!
even now i cant stand teenagers and just hope mine doesnt turn out a right little chav who spits!

07mumstheword · 22/08/2008 12:53

Bethoo I have bought and wrapped DD stocking I've also bought a few other present but not wrapped them yet. How else am I supposed to do it all? I figure at least if I have most of the presents sorted I will have plenty of time to write the Christmas cards

Jambers99 · 22/08/2008 12:55

Hope you're doing ok star and loulou. One more contribution to the measurement debate - I saw the consultant this morning after the midwife said I was way too large for my dates. He didn't bother with a scan or measuring tape, or even a doppler - he just quickly felt my bump with his hands and said it was fine. Maybe slightly big, but nothing to worry about. When pregnant with my son 2 years ago, I was never measured once, so I never had all this heartache about being too big or too small - much better in my opinion!

Can't believe you're thinking about sex and shopping bethoo, I'm lucky if I manage to stay awake on the sofa in the evenings...

rosebury · 22/08/2008 13:08

Hello everyone sorry not been on for a while I keep trying to catch up but find it impossible. I notice from the above messages that a couple of ladies have some worries at the moment i will back track and find out more info and hope that I have not missed anything major eg a birth.

I am well but do have some days when I feel totally exhausted I lay on the sofa the other day having a weep feeling sorry for myself as I had cleaned the bathroom this used to be a simple task but not know it bloody killed me I am feeling so frustrated because the smallest of tasks are so hard, even going to the loo I really struggle to wipe my bottom sorry if TMI but it really is a strenuous event.

Anyway no more moaning only six weeks to go now and only one bore week of school holidays role on sept 1st with no more guilt over ds watching tv.

Anyone got any ideas for brightly coloured small blankets eg pram and crib size not cot size I had some lovely ones last time bright orange and lime green from john lewis I leant them out to someone and they now look used and tatty there are none in the standard shops they only have pastel shades and the bright ones in cot blankets. I am sure that someone will know of a website where I will be able to get some.

thanks ladies have a lovely day.

bethoo · 22/08/2008 13:10

tbh i am surprised i can do all this too!
my shopping lsit tomorrow if i actually make it out the house is a vibrator

bethoo · 22/08/2008 13:12

rosebury i went for traditiona lblue i am afraid so toys r us was good enough for me! sometimes the uncommon baby shops stock stuff like that, so not mothercare and the big baby shops.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 22/08/2008 13:12

ronshar and bethoo thanks - so good to have ladies like you around with kiddies already to spread the joy/love...of course, totally forgot it was summer holidays!

on that note, must make the most of the fact we don't have our LO yet in regards to having lots of sex over the weekend...

bethoo · 22/08/2008 13:16

GWTMH i am goingto sound bad but i often had sex when still had lo stuck to my boob! he was too little to know! anyay we co-clept for 9 months and there is no way i would have gone wothout it for that long! finding it hard after 2 weeks!
spoke to dp today and he wa saying how he misses me like crazy, i said ''yes, well i miss one aspect'', he said it was not on his top list of reasons but sadly i am a nymph so it is mine!!

loulou33 · 22/08/2008 13:41

Hi all,
thanks for all your kind words. I fell asleep shortly after posting (due to sleepless night the night before worrying about neighbours!!)

Ronshar i too am impressed with my mw - she rang me again today to book my blood test for 10 days time to check anitbodies levels haven't gone up and she wants me to call her after my scan on monday. When i had ds, i had the same mw with me the whole time (about 7 hours) and the same mw visited every day after for 2 weeks. she was supposed to hand me over at 8 days but she often hangs on to some mums - bless!!!

I feel a bit better today as off work til tues and know there is nothing i can do until next week. In fact, there is not much i could do nayway even if its really bad news so can't be arsed to fret anymore. Anyway dh has made me cup of tea and cookies so i'm going for a lie on the sofa xxxx

luckymummy74 · 22/08/2008 14:12

Emmsy I am on the May 08 post natal thread (although DD2 born 30th April, she was due May).
Yes, she is sleeping through the night . I am BF her, although just started last week giving her 4oz of formula at 10pm after a 6pm BF and she sleeps til 7am.

I've decided to wean off BF now (for various reasons) so last night I gave her 6oz formula at 6:45pm, and she didn't wake til 5am, moaned for a bit then went back to sleep til 6am when I then BF her again.

My DD1 is only 2 so I don't have to worry about school.

Good luck to all you Oct ladies!!

Hi all

Loads to catch up on. No-one at all has used a measuring tape on me so I have no idea wheather I'm measuring small, large or spot on. Reading some of your worries I'm glad.

I have had issues with very swollen feet and legs for the last 10 days or so and my midwife had not called me back despite me leaving a message for her at the community midwives office 3 days ago so I called the maternity unit and they asked me to go in today. I don't suppose I would have worried so much but my Mum kept on at me that I should worry as she had problems when she was preg with my sister (obviously a verry long time ago ). Anyway to cut a long story short they were really lovely in the maternity unit and checked me and the baby out and all is okay. Hurrah!!

Anyway looking forward to a long restful weekend with some nice weather.

WombFor1More · 22/08/2008 16:00

Hello again ladies, wow this moves so fast!

Another moan I'm afraid. Feel quite frankly like sh*. Have been arguing with dp since last night, even though he's at work today too I have managed to scream, shout, rant and cry down the phone at him for 2 hrs Didn't make me feel any better either

I'm just so tired and I've had enough. I've been looking after ds6, ds4 and dd1 through the holidays basically on my own, dp has had 2 afternoons off in the whole holiday. So I'm exhausted to say the least. Also in that time me and dd caught a sickness bug and my iron was so low I could barely move. Thanks goodness those 2 are sorted now though. Anyway dp has had extra work after normal to help do some kitchen fitting so has been out of house from 8am - 10pm most days since last week. Basically arguement started cos he told me at weekend that he wasn't working late Fri-today- but when I asked him last night he said he IS working late. Well apparently he did tell me I beg to differ. Cue me apparently blowing everything out of proportion and has now escalated into me being crying wreck, telling him to move out and him saying ok I'll go tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

WRONG ANSWER! Just wanted him to put his arms around me and tell me I'm not a fat insignificant blob, just here as kids slave and that he loves me. He just doesn't get it so don't know where I stand now

On top of that I have my friend her dp and 1yr old coming tomorrow for the weekend and Sunday we're being joined by another 3 friends and their lo's & dp's! I have so much to do but have just been sat here all day like a weeping wreck.

Sorry for the misery but neded to vent somewhere.

On brighter note had mw app yesterday, she took more blood to check to see what my HB is now and also if they can identify these mysterious antibodies I seem to have! Should know by Wednesday. Also measuring spot on for dates, I'm 34 +4 now. Still feels like forever to go. Mw has made another app for 37weeks. She is thinking of sending me for a growth scan as dd was 9lb 4oz and only a 3hr labour from 1st twinge Dp ended up delivering her so they are being slightly cautious this time just incase we end up in same position!! Dd never measured big either, was always a week behind

Anyway I'm off to see what I can rescue from what's left of the day...

xx

sambrads · 22/08/2008 16:23

star6 · 22/08/2008 17:53

gwmh and bethoo - I can't even think about sex! It just hurts and it's so hard to find a position that works well. I feel like my sex drive is completely gone

07mumstheword · 22/08/2008 18:55

womb4onemore sorry you are having such a bad day. I hope you've managed to get some things done and feel a little better. And enjoy your friends visits.

rowanmac · 22/08/2008 20:08

Sambrads I remember that happening to me a couple of weeks before DS appeared, I think he just changed position.

Thanks for the help with the car seat. I would quite like to try the seat in the car hence Mothercare. Its either them or Halfords and Halfords were dreadful when we bought the last one, no idea how to fit it at all. Had DS with me and not thinking twice answered all the questions honestly so then assistant said she couldn't knowingly sell me one as he was too small. Half of my thought process was to get it sorted before arrival of number 2. We tried clipping the straps together but we have Houdini junior especially after a long trip when he had plenty of time to fiddle.

finished work today hip hip hooray. They had a little lunch for me and i have a bag of Body shop goodies. Very lovely.

I would be the first to line up the christmas shopping ladies against the wall for shooting except I bought card to make cards with this week. definitely no pressies though. I thought I was OTT getting DS birthday presents sorted 2 weeks ago for 10th September.
