HUGS ALBS it sounds a bit like the blues just remember that all babies are different - especially boys vs girls. From my work experience boys tend to be a bit more needy on the boob front initially - I have a friend who had ff her son and he is just as needy for food and will eat at evey opportunity. At this stage he will be doing a bit of a growth spurt and also needing the energy to be that adorable!

Sorry to hear you're low ALBS. Sleep deprivation does terrible things to me too - a good night puts a whole different face on the world - and not knowing when you might get that again is hard to handle. It's just dawning on me that I'll be joining you in that situation very shortly. I'm sure that even if it doesn't get better soon, Henry will start to develop a bit more of a pattern, which will help you to relax and rest more when he is.

preg1 - Lovely name. V. similar to a couple of our choices. Emily in the running for this LO but seriously considered Emmeline and DD's middle name is Sophia, after my Mum. When we found out we were expecting a second girl, we were (and still are!) slightly stumped on a name as Sophie would have been it, but we'd used something so similar already with DD1. However, we don't regret it all, as I'd have regretted it more if we'd had a boy this time and never used it at all. (Does that make any sense?!?)

Babies Babies Babies

ALBS, I've been crying on and off all day too and I don't even have a baby yet. It's all just hormones. Why can't they just make you LAUGH uncontrollably?!?

Huge congratulations to CC and gigglegirl on two beautifully-named babies

well henry succeeded in his aim to get milk from his hand. each feed his hands go in his mouth before my boob and earlier i squirted milk over his hand and in his eye so he got a bit of a shock lol......

ALBS - 2nd babies always shock you at how different 2 children from the same gene pool can be. Combine it with sleep deprivation and crazy hormones, and the fact that feeding full stop and breastfeeding can take weeks to settle down, you're doing exactly as well as can be expected. Better in fact because you're on here expressing your feelings, letting it all out, til it starts to get better. You've only been doing it a week, give yourself a chance.

Sazzles, could it have been your friend with the new baby you helped last week? Maybe she has 2 names or the florist got it wrong?

Felt fed up so ordered pizza tonight, about to have my 2nd Mars bar and a bath.

I'm shattered myself but at least not due to labour! Dh has been a complete grouch all day - he's just gone to work. He is really cross because I've got a friend over this w/e with her children because I knew I'd struggle to cope otherwise and he thinks he will now get no sleep. I even offered to buy him earplugs but he said he wouldn't wear them. We had one of those useful conversations where he said 'you chose to get pregnant again'. Still, we made up before he went.

Ds2 has slowed down considerably in the last couple of days. But, from what I remember that is normal at this stage. Picking up my homebirth box from the mws tomorrow - all getting very real.

pf, glad you said that as this LO has slowed down significantly too. I was pretty sure it was just the stage rather than anything to be concerned about, but it helps to hear it from you.

sazzles I'm too nosy - I'd just phone the florist!

Oh, and the birth story...

saw someone yesterday and we were talking about (in the nicest possible way) a friend of hers who has recently had a baby. X says, mid flow, 'oh yes, and I delivered it' .... double checked that i had heard right and it turned out that she had one contraction but was in a lot of pain, her DH had rung X and asked her to come round (@ 3.15am). MW wasn't available (not sure why there weren't 2 on call), so X said (never having done this before) 'I do need to have a look' - and when she looked there was the baby's head!!!

So she just went with her instincts and told friend to push when she felt ready. 999 were talking DH through it on the phone, but DH was so freaked he wasn't relaying anything .

X just went with what seemed right, and friend did what came naturally. Ambulance turned up 15 mins after birth and MW an hour later .

Don't know whether it was a planned home birth or just too quick to do anything else... was a bit (?) shocked at the MW situation which was why I wasn't sure whether to post until pf had babe in arms... but figured that the moral of the story is that in the end it is all down to nature and natural instinct. But a 1 hour labour and 1 contraction - how good would that be?!

for the record pf, I ended up with 3 MW at mine (2 and a student) - regular old MW party!!

ataraxis Not worried by that story at all! One mw I saw told me she used to live in an area with lots of jewish mothers, on literally their 15th child. She said they used to come into the labour suite saying they felt a bit funny and five minutes later there was the baby

Also a mum I met recently said her second came in 45 minutes. The mw got there just beforehand and said to her dh 'she isn't as far on as she thinks she is' whereupon said mum thought I'll show her and pushed really hard - out the baby came!

TS why does that not surprise me?! Mind you when I was first pregnant, the mw told me to ask my mum about her labours (all fast interestingly) and what pain relief she had had - as I was weighing up birth centre vs ordinary labour suite. My mum said to me that she didn't have any pain relief but 'of course my pain threshold is much higher than yours' I immediately thought how would she know that? and proceeded to give birth with no pain relief
