AnnVan, I don't mind you asking at all My brother was diagnosed with a really rare, aggressive type of bone cancer in January 2005, and despite fighting hard and going through a prolonged course of surgical, chemo and radiotherapy treatments he died in April last year. We were very close; he was such a wonderful person and had everything to live for, so it was especially hard that of all the people in my family this had to happen to him.

Here is a picture of us the day mum brought me home from the hospital, and here is the last photo taken of us together, at Christmas in 2006. He was already in a wheelchair by then and terminally ill, but he still had a smile for me

Good luck bealcain! Wishing you a speedy delivery

oopsacoconut · 01/08/2008 15:15

GO BEALCAIN GO BEALCAIN GO (waves pompoms and does energetic little dance)

Buckets · 01/08/2008 15:26

Deffo Emmeline with 2 ms, like Emmeline Pankhurst - girl power! But if you think of it in those terms, perhaps Margaret might be a bit too Thatcher-ish next to it? Greta more continental and glamorous or save Margaret for next DD.

Cyteen, lovely pic - a weary smile and nod at the bonkers sister!

TwilightSurfer · 01/08/2008 17:19

Okay I've cleaned the bathroom, dining room and living room and run one load of laundry (which is still in the dryer)..... now I'm tired.

Where did everyone go????????

Oooh - Congratulations CC!

That's funny - Gretta is actually what we call my aunt, I just wasn't sure it went, I'm glad you like it . Thanks for all your advice - lots to talk to DH about tonight (if he's not too grumpy with me for waking him up by waddling down to get some toast at 5am and then being fast asleep when he had to wak up to go to work!)

How fabulous - I love getting flowers . V anoying that you don't know who to thank for them?! Hopefully someone will phone you over the w/e and it will all fall into place.

Right, in the mood for some baking. Shall I make lemon drizzle cake or chocolate marble cake first? Haven't done either before - I'm loving this not working thing

CaptainDippy · 01/08/2008 17:48

pregnancy1 · 01/08/2008 17:50

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/08/2008 17:50

preg1 I love GRETA as its my middle name so slightly biased. Hated it when I was younger though.
Congratulations to cc and good luck to others on their way

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/08/2008 17:52

oopsacoconut · 01/08/2008 18:08

Weldone CAVEY and Welcome to the world Oliver Cyteen what great piccies of you and your brother - thanks for sharing them hugs

oopsacoconut · 01/08/2008 18:10

OOOOHHH SAZZLES a secret admirer. A secret admirer would be the only way I would ever get flowers.

PetitFilou1 · 01/08/2008 18:12

Cyteen Read your post earlier - re the GP tbh he probably didn't know what spatone was and was disguising his ignorance and secondly I think it was bealcain who said it isn't actually a prescribable medicine - hence the tablets. I bought some in Waitrose if that helps.

Becoming a mother is a big leap, it is normal to feel vulnerable and strange. I finally felt like an adult when I first had a baby - I had been one for a long time but not had the responsibility in the way that you do when you have a lo. I'm now a lot more assertive - there are times when you have to be as a parent - not that it doesn't get get wearing! Hope you feel better soon.

Congratulations to CC and good luck to Bealcain! They are popping out like peas now! Sazzles I say have faith in your original decision - you'll be fine. But I'd be scared to have a cs so can understand... 'tis the fear of the unknown.

alittlebitshy · 01/08/2008 18:13

captain caveman welcome to oliver!!!!!!

Having a wobble. Can't stop cryinf, can't stope thinking baout how life is too different now, and wondering when it will be "normal" again. I thik by normal I mean when will I get a predictable night's sleep. I cold prob handle the days if I wasn't so tired. And i know by newborn standards henry is rather good, but I depressed myself by looking at a notebook of feeds I kept when dd was this age - and saw that she was regularly sleeping 5-6 hours on the trot even before we started topping her up with formula. Am not sure when baby blues is officially classed as PND.

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 18:16

Yay for CC and welcome to Oliver! Wonderful news.

Sazzles lucky you with your floral mystery! Go on, give us a few hints re. message.

lemon drizzle for me please, with LOTS of drizzle! I might save it for watching Poirot tonight.

Ah, Friday nights...

PetitFilou1 · 01/08/2008 18:17

VG lol at your ds 'I could just about manage some chocolate or sweets' ds said more or less the same thing to me the other
day

preg1 I like Emmeline a lot. Also what about Emmeline Charlotte xxxx as an alternative

gigglegirl · 01/08/2008 18:19

evening all. imogen louise was born at 9.48 this morning weigghing 6lb 6oz. she is beautiful. they are a bit worried about some blisters she has and how drowsy and mucous she is so have run a few tests but she has plenty of colour and has just had 8ml of colustrumm via syringe so i don't think there is much wrong. feel tired but pretty content and trying to stay on top of pain. xx

FoghornLeghorn · 01/08/2008 18:22

Guys I'm flaking ! Someone give me a boost.

Been stuck indoors all day with DD's and the dreaded itchy spots, tried to go to Tesco earlier but DD1 cried and said she didn't want me to leave her so I agreed I'd go when DD2 goes to bed and DD1 is watching a film with DH. DH got called out to work for a couple of hours, meant to be back by 6, he called, wont be home til 7.30 at the earliest.
DD1 will not go to bed under any circumstances as 'daddy promised to watch a film with her' ( I know it's not bed time yet but it would be at 7.30) and I now cannot be arsed to go to Tesco. We have no food, I feel like I spend half my life in Tesco atm but I only seem to get bits and pieces, not a whole shop so today I really need to do a 'proper shop'. DH & I haven't got anything for dinner so I have to go

PetitFilou1 · 01/08/2008 18:22

albs Don't compare Henry to dd though - boys are hungrier (anecdotally and certainly amongst my friends at least) If you are feeling overwhelmed I think you should ask to see your HV if she isn't round anyway. Ask for help if you need it - it isn't worth leaving it until crisis stage. Sleep deprivation is a killer and it may be that - I turn into psycho bitch from hell on wheels with it - am sure dh is really looking forward to it ...

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 18:22

albs you know, don't you, that there's no point in comparing your two? Is your dh still taking up the slack re. meals, domestic admin-type stuff?

Have you been out of the house much? Even if you can be outside in the garden for twenty minutes I think it makes a big difference, do you have somewhere you can sit and feel the breeze on your face? This is a tough time, no doubt about it, but it will pass. The blues can hit you big time in the early days and it's so hard to put things into perspective but sounds as if you are doing wonderfully by Henry. Re. the constant feeding etc I am sure someone else will have wiser words than I do but in general I think you need to give yourself more pats on the back and more breaks.
