Yep Spink - and it sounds all too familiar! We went away with DD when she was 12 weeks as our house had to have some major building work after a wall collapsed (long story). It was lovely, but not like a single couple holiday! We've taken her away 4 times now out of the country and for a few weekends in the UK (those mainly for work) and although it has got easier, there is no relaxing!

MsSparkle - I had exactly the same thoughts re:ladygarden with DD and left things alone for a few weeks before my due date. Unfortunately though I had a last minute change of heart and not wanting to go near my bits with anything sharp I whipped out the hair removal cream whilst in labour. During the contractions I must have been bending over and about the time it was due to be washed off I looked in the mirror and realised my entire fanjo was covered with cream. I rushed to wash it off but despite my best efforts ended up virtually bald! Fortunately nothing was said about it!!

oh lenniEd, that is funny

i tried to do something about it the other day too. was so fed up looking at it in the mirror knowing i could braid the hair, i decided to shave it while in the shower. what a crooked mess. well, at least it's short. will go and have it properly waxed when it grows in a bit more. i've just been lazy with it.

fourlittlefeet · 14/09/2008 21:10

lol at bald fanjo! .

my there has been a lot of chatter. did try and catch up but too tired now so will read more tomorrow!

I have Loola which I bought off Ebay for DD. I used it loads at the beginning as we used the bassinet for her crib until about 9 weeks and the car seat as the pram as its pretty flat so she could happily be in it for up to four hours and its great in cafes as you just fold up the bottom and carry them in in the seat (and restaurants and pubs in the evening). It also looks awesome and fits neatly into a small car. Downside for me is that I live on the second floor and couldn't carry the full pram up (again no probs with just the car seat, but seat and pram and 6 month old baby getting close to 22kgs. Bit too much on the old hips! Also didn't find the steering that light, though turning circle was fab. I mainly ended up using my hug-a-bub sling together with a lightweight Jane (which folds flat and still fits in a small car).

Not sure this time whether to stick with Jane and use sling at first or to go for a powertwin. will see, Jane a bit flimsy but thats the payoff for easier steering and small/lightness. hmm.

English Grandparents names were Kathleen and Stanley.

tinkhasanactivebean · 15/09/2008 08:40

lol @ lady gardens

managed to trim mine with scissors last night was turning into the amazon rain forest lol

poorbuthappy · 15/09/2008 09:08

Morning all!

I'm going to have my lady garden straightened so its easier to plait...

Had a wonderful dream last night - babies popped out very easily, I went to the pub the same night and drank a lot of vodka and went home to find out that the babies had different colour hair and had aged about 6 months in the space of a few hours. I then rang up my consultant to say that they weren't identical after all cos they looked totally different and that he was crap at his job...

Anyway...hope everyone is ok!

moosemama · 15/09/2008 09:44

Morning

Phew, what a night, really bad nightmares one after the other all night, then woken up in really bad pain with hips and pelvis plus a killer headache!

Afraid I gave in to paracetamol and head now feeling a lot better, currently resting pelvis after walking to school and back with DS1 repeatedly saying, "I feel sick, my head hurts, my hands feel funny, my tummy aches" in fact any affliction he could think of that might mean a day off school!

Spent yesterday playing on ebay and spending the 25 pounds left over from my birthday money on some really nice little outfits for madam. Am really chuffed with how much I managed to get for the money (and only a bit of pink), just need some white sleepsuits and vests and a couple of cardigans and hats now. (Also feel very virtuous as, as DS2 said, "They are recycled clothes aren't they Mummy." so apparently am saving the planet and saving money at the same time! )

Hope all is well with everyone this morning.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/09/2008 10:09

Good morning

Lennied Am still giggling at your bold fanjo What a story to tell the grandkids?! LOL

Moosema, I could have kept you company last night, I have an irritable uterus (basically painfully strong regular contractions that do absolutely nothing, which is probably good at this stage but down right frustrating at term!) so have been up all night with contractions coming every 10 minutes.

We've had a productive weekend, went and ordered the carpet for the boy's room, they are fitting it next Monday, and also managed to get most of the xmas shopping done, and a lot of DS2's birthday sorted as well Now just have to wait for it all to be delivered and then find somewhere to hide it all.... going to be hard this year, most of the things will be in big boxes and with a 6 year old poking around in every nook and cranny it is going to be hard keeping him away!

Fourlittlefeet, I have a Jane Energy stroller for DS2, it is coming to the end of it's days TBH, it clicks and cranks about, luckily DS2 is coming to the end of his buggy days now (only use it if we are going round town normally), must admit it has put me off buying a Jane system for the next baby, it isn't all that old (about 14 months) and for the £100 it was I'd have been better getting a Zapp or something I think.

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 10:25

Hello lovely ladies! How are you all?

Sorry to have deserted you all for so long, had the summer hols chaos with all the kids, went away quite a bit and then (finally) dh came home on leave for 4 weeks! Was fab.

He went back to work this morning but not too far awaya nd home every night till the end of October.

I had my anomaly scan a couple of weeks ago and all is well! No markers for Turners Syndrome (dd has it) and it is a GIRL! Am gob smacked. DD thrilled of course to finally have a sister, the other 5 are ok with it. My mil and mother are jumping for joy and i am just about getting used to it.

Poorbuthappy i have identical twins, no twin to twin with them although they were born at 29 weeks. Nothing to do with them being identical, it was an infection. All will be fine, just take it easy

Mel you sound organised as ever.

Elkie fab news on the results, are you all clear now?

What have i missed?

Eachpeach thank you for posting on the multiple thread for me, i have hunted down!

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 10:26

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/09/2008 10:34

LG&T Hello stranger!! A girl - how wonderful Huge congrats And no doubt big relief about the Turners markers (or lack of!)

Are you ready for another NJ labour thread? I am not (and neither is DH LOL)

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 10:40

What are you having NJ?

I am to be on strict reduction of activities from 30 weeks to stop this one trying to escape early About the same time dh joins his next ship and will be away! Useful.

This one will behave NJ, it will give you no problems and pop out at 40 weeks on the nose

rrrayray · 15/09/2008 10:42

Well one of the reasons i want to keep downstairs at least tidy - as apparently thats the best they can do (ususally have an all off jobby!) due to not being able to pull skin tight enough to do the whole job.... is i'm so worried of tearing, and i read that if its hair free its much easier and neater to stitch back up. Plus, its been that way for a long time, so the waxing is more like a sharp sting that the agony and bruising the first time i had it done!

My legs are what are in need of attention- The bottom half of my legs seems to be growing twice as fast as normal!!! if only the hair on my head would do the same!!

miss jackson your holiday sounds amazing!!!

Feeling very happy with ourselves- we ordered our nursery furniture yesterday. Cost an arm and a leg, but Tickled pink with it.

I've done a silly thing, i've got a 5 day break in spain coming up in early novemeber & i'll miss the first class of my NCT classes i've booked. What a donught. As a first timer, will i miss alot? Is it worth OH going solo and taking notes?

moosemama · 15/09/2008 10:47

LG&T congratulations on your girl! Am just coming round the idea of having a girl myself - I was in shock when they told me!

(Tink, have just succumbed to a pumpkin patch cardigan off ebay - really must stop looking before I bankrupt us!)

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/09/2008 11:05

T'is another boy DS1 is over the moon! He got a bit shaky about pink being forced upon him! The baby is already playing up something chronic, but I'll put money on it that EDD will come and go and he'll still be sat there waiting for someone to get him going... it seems I do lazy children quite well

Rrray, all my hair seems to be growing quicker than ever, and my nails, belly is getting seriously hairy... don't worry too much about the classes, I have never been to even antenatel class, and my kids survived! I am of your break in Spain though.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/09/2008 11:05

Sorry.... I have never been to even one antenatel class....

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 12:24

Oooh NJ you lucky thing having another boy

I have not been to an antenatal class either! Taken a few mind Don't worry about it.

I too am seriously at your trip to Spain.

We had 3 days no children in the Cotswolds this summer but dh was ill for most of it Gah!

MsSparkle · 15/09/2008 12:39

Hello all,

I went to two antenatal classes with dd, they were useful but i wouldn't say nessesary. When the baby comes you just seem to know what to do. Before i had dd, i had never been around children or babies ever in my whole life so it was a big learning curve! You get there in the end though. Must be some sort of motherly instinct

fourlittlefeet · 15/09/2008 13:32

i did hospital antenatal which were informative, nct and made some nice friends (though sessions info was not necessarily to my taste), and read baby whisperer for learning what to do with them.

so everything came naturally to me too

oh, and lets not forget mumsnet

Chocsolot · 15/09/2008 13:42

Hi everyone,

Lol too at lady gardens, want to go swimming but need to do some pruning first and am too scared that the pain of waxing will send poor little baby into shock!

We got very excited at the weekend and started work on our nursery too, and we have cleared out a chest of drawers so promptly went to the local mother care to purchase a gorgoues winter snow suit i have been eyeing up which i think will be perfect for bringing it home from the hospital in, i am so excited

We have our 20 week scan this week too, also very exciting its been so long coming (they put it back after the heart scan because they wanted to leave it longer to see if they could get a better look at the chamber walls to determine if there is a hole there). Can't wait to see it again though, we listened to the heart beat at the weekend on our doppler and it sounds so much clearer now and so much stronger.

I have read that the babies go through a huge growth spurt between weeks 22-24.... is anyone else feelgin really washed out again all of a sudden? I reckon that must be what is causing it, either that or I am coming down with a cold!

Chocsolot · 15/09/2008 13:43

FLF my hospital wont let em do antinatal because i am already signed up to NCT . I wanted to do both really too.

Spink · 15/09/2008 14:52

rrray - ah so YOU'RE the one who has got my leg hair - I have none at the mo, shaved about 3 weeks ago but oddly still smooth as a very smooth thing... but before you ask, it's ok, no need to give it back, you can keep it

I am getting v excited reading about your nursery plans and baby clothes!
Pip will be in with us for the first 4-6 months and then we'll be moving house (I hope) as our second bedroom is only big enough for ds.
But. I am going to get hold of a chest of drawers from FILs house on loan, clean it up, line the drawers with lovely paper & find a place for it in our room. Then I'm going to wash ds' old newborn clothes (he had a GORGEOUS white fluffy snowsuit thing that I can't wait to dig out) and start nesting for Pip!!
thanks for the motivation!

tinkhasanactivebean · 15/09/2008 14:59

miss j - holiday sounds great
we arent doind any antenatal this time round as you dont get them anyway my midwife said.
with dd did nct and ones @ birthing centre.
we will have baby in with us till they are sleeping through then will be sharing with dd it just enough room
have a viewing of house tom morning so hopefully may move before then so that they can have there own room

LenniEd · 15/09/2008 15:09

Chocs - I think you might want to take issue with them over that. I did just NCT and regretted it as although they were fab the content is usually (from my experience and speaking to others in other areas) focussed mostly on obtaining a natural labour and birth. Although I wanted a natural labour with low intervention, DDs was very managed with a lot of intervention as my waters broke 3 days before contractions and my options were vastly reduced as a result. I wasn't aware of some of the hospital protocols on labour when your membranes are ruptured and as a result was completely unprepared - in fact I had no idea what happened when your waters broke but labour didn't start. Our NCT teacher was from out of the area and didn't give us any info specific to the hospital (they are prob better at this when they are teaching in one area but NCT antenatal teachers are in very short supply so sometimes cover a large area).

On the baby front, as others have said you learn as you go along but there are a few good books out there that it might be worth reading before the baby arrives, since you won't have so much time after. The Rough Guide to Babies is a 'sit-on-the-fence' one which gives you a bit of a run down on the various approaches that other authors recommend without preaching. In my group of RL baby friends with similar age kids there is a massive range of parenting styles from attachment-parenting type people to the routine junkies and everything in between, despite the fact we are always discussing our kids and swapping advice so I think you will know whether something fits in with your own philosophy and lifestyle or not and learn to take it or leave it.

Thanks LenniEd i will ask the midwife when i see her next, i was a bit dissapointed when they said given i was already booked onto NCT they wouldn't be including me in theirs. Will push back on them i think, thank you.

I am reading the rough guide to pregnancy and childbirth at the moment and it is very good, quite funny
