Well, any sense of well-being and relaxation achieved on my holiday has been wiped out overnight by the sudden appearance of an UNBEARABLY ITCHY rash - mainly on arms, tum, knees, back, wrists and ankles. I had to have a cold bath at 1am just to calm down the itching enough to get some sleep. Trundled off to the Doctor hoping it was something simple like a bug infestation from Spain, but she cheerfully informed me it's a 'pregnancy related rash' and there is not much I can do except apply various creams like E45. Aaaahhh! I've started at my new job and have spent the morning trying not to itch and researching possible solutions on the net -- I don't think it's that 'PUPPS' rash which you can get later on in pregnancy, but it's just little red agonisingly itchy bumps all over... I could literally tear my skin off!

Anyone else had this? She said it will def clear up with child birth!!! No way can I grit my teeth that long... So far I have E45 cream, an emollient cleanser, something called 'eucerin' (which looks like E45) and dandelion root extract.

Hope everyone else is having a good (and non-itchy) Monday...

Chocsolot · 15/09/2008 16:52

Oh no that is awful missjackson....... How can so many of these nasty things all be pregnancy related, you do sometimes feel like once they know your pregnant its like an umbrella excuse for all ailments. I mean i know our body is going through the most manic thing we could put it through but.....!?!

I have rashes like that quite often, sounds like hives, but its because i have allergies to certain cosmetics, there could be an outside chance that your pregnancy has made you more sensitive to cosmetics i guess. I use hypoallegenic washing powders, alcohol free perfumes, and for some reason can't use Pantene hair stuff (I know i am a bit of a freak!)

Unfortunately the tablets i could take to shift it you can't have when pregnant but I don't know if it owuld help to avoid stronger cosmetic things for the rest of the pregnancy, you will go insane if you have hives for 4 months that is like ridiculous...... Good luck, I empathise at how much it must hurt!

rrrayray · 15/09/2008 17:27

I shall relax about missing my first NCT class then, i think i'll just inisit on OH going solo, hahahaha I would imagine it'll be mostly introductions anyway.

Spink- V. jealous of your silky smooth legs. I have booked myself in for a leg wag wednesday.... Fingers crossed i'll then come over with your hair free syndrome.

Natalie Jane - My Belly seems to be getting hairy too. Luckily i am fair haired, so you can't really see it too much, But bizarley the hair on my legs has NOW decided it wants to be DARK. Thank goodness i am getting i removed. Got a raised eye brow from OH who spied it yesterday. Just gave him an "i'm pregnant" Grin/Look

missjackson i havent had anything that sounds AS itchy as what you have.... but my Boobs have been rEALLY itchy for the last few days. i think thats more to do with the fact i am certian they are AGAIN expanding!!!

tinkhasanactivebean · 15/09/2008 17:28

poor you miss j

rrrayray · 15/09/2008 18:52

Ohhhhhhh i almost Forgot chocsolot.... i am GLAD to hear you've read about growth spurts between 22-24 weeks. I have been SO tired....AND waking up every morning STARVING!!!! My Bean is obviously Growing!

Not to mention, having hardly had a bump- i suddenly have a little one within about 2 days! Magic!!

qumps · 15/09/2008 20:17

wow lots of posts since friday.
seriously nearly wet myself at lady garden chat. mine has taken on a mind of its own but with back can't get near it and almost too embarrassed to go and get it waxed. need to hedge trim it first... did manage to get dh to do legs for me which he thought was hillarious.
nataliejane couldn't open link on furniture. did you decide?
yay to all the shopping. taking p&t for service (i know its a buggy but its free) and the shop we bought it form is lovely so will have to resist there. think i will wait until 28 week scan so as not to jinx.
with you all on the dreams too. work mega busy after having been off for a week and have a huge event on wednesday which i am in charge of. dreamt last night that the only way i could generate media interest was to dress dh as a fairy but for some reason i wanted to ice his feet???!!!
very impressed byt the christmas organisation on presents and also slightly worried that i haven't even thought about it yet. we had all better do it early incase of early arrivals.
finally great news on good scans .

fymandbean · 15/09/2008 22:35

Hello - what a lot of posts!

I'm really suffering at the moment as my business has really taken off (I feel for those of you with money worries) I'm working far to much just to keep up with things so I can hand over to my maternity cover in due course.

My DS has started kindergarten and LOVES it - 3 afternoons a week.

Re: ladygardens mine needs a hedge trimmer

chefswife · 16/09/2008 01:25

my belly has also exploded over the last couple of days. and the last few mornings her movements are so strong that i am woken up and kept awake. i think she may also be giving me motion sickness. is that possible. once i get up and move around it goes away. i get motion sickness and this is what it feels like... not quite nausea, just that you feel uneasy.

on the sex front, i am horny. simple. however, i am so damn clumsy and awkward that i can't perform and feel so bad for DH. he has been a great sport about it, laughing with me, but how embarrassing.

hair and nails growing like mad... except on my legs too. which is fine really. i hate shaving.

tinkhasanactivebean · 16/09/2008 08:43

morning

MsSparkle · 16/09/2008 10:32

Morning,

MissJackson that sounds awful, i really feel for you.

I must say, you lot are brave for having various parts waxed! I don't think i would ever be up for that!

Well on Sunday my sister was telling me how small my bump was and my boobs and yesterday a woman at a m&t group was telling me how big my bump was at 24 weeks I have decided of coarse that they are all talking rubbish and that my bump is just a normal sized bump!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 16/09/2008 12:21

Hello everyone

Miss Jackson, really feel for you with the rash, I can still remember the utter torture of when I got my lovely (hmm) stretchmarks with DS1, oh the itchyness, I can't imagine how much worse it would be all over. Hope you manage to find something that at least soothes it for a while.

Rrray, DH is well used to my pregnant hairy belly! And his belly is still much hairier than mine so he's not much room to talk!

Qumps, will try links again: Barn Yard or Zanzibar It is the bedding etc. not the furniture, I thought I had decided on the furniture but am having a wobble.... I think once I finally make a decision on the nursery stuff, then I'll decide on the furniture.

MsSparkle, someone always has something to say about the size of bumps (too big, too small, too round, too high, too low.....) I think you have the right attitude, ignore the lot of them! My neice (super super skinny - it's just her build) had the tiniest teeniest bump, not sure I'd even call it a bump with her first, she is pregnant with her second now and is the size of a house (sorry if you are reading this niece!) every one is different, every baby is different, and every pregnancy is different.

I have been into town this morning, got a few small stocking type filler toys for the boys, and I've recieved my order from Toys R Us, so I think I am nearly finished with the boys pressies, still got family and friends to do, oh and DH's I suppose Will be nice not having to rush around in December, think I might do xmas shopping early every year!

Periwink · 16/09/2008 13:51

Hello, wow some of you are super organised regarding the christmas shopping. I am feeling slightly panicked now!

All this shopping talk makes me think that next week would be a good time to go and order nursery furniture and push chair. The nesting instinct has kicked in and I am clenaing, tidying and packing things into boxes ready for our house move in December!!!!

Msjackson - just as well you did not get the rash whilst on holiday, sorry to hear you have it anyway!!!

Those of you in London - Selfridges already have all their Christmas decorations ect on sale - glug (and a little more panic)

missjackson · 16/09/2008 15:02

Yes, wow, you guys are organised! I guess it's different if you have babies/ children already that won't forgive you if you miss out the presents this year!

Thanks for sympathy messages -- the rash is worse than yesterday, and I spent most of the night getting in and out of a hot bath, and slathering myself in E45. It doesn't even look like I can take an anti-histamine which would help. It's like I've fallen in a nettle bush - lots of little raised white and red spots that don't look like much, but are AGONISINGLY itchy. It's pretty hard to concentrate on anything and I have lost all sense of humour! I pity my new work colleagues...

Apparently these rashes can be an allergy to your baby, especially male fetal hormones! Makes me even surer I am having a boy. Will try not to hold this rash against him in the future!

Periwink · 16/09/2008 16:11

Missjackson - big sympathies for you, as if we have not got enough to contend with.

looweeza · 16/09/2008 16:17

Missjackson - have you been told specifically that you can't use anti-histamines?

I had this exact same rash when i was about 18ish weeks, and went to the docs. He prescribed me some antihist cream and tablets - didn't get around to using the tablets as the cream seemed to make it disappear.

Although for some reason, i think it would have gone of its own accord eventually. It was so wierd - came on very suddenly, lots of itchy red bumps esp up the backs of my legs..i too was having cold showers in the middle of the night before i scratched my skin off.

God, how horrible for you. Anyway, go back to the docs and insist on something stronger if e45 doesn't help.

The cream was only a mild dose, obviously, but its worth a go. I'm all packed up ready to move house next week, but i can dig around to find out the name of the cream/tablets if you don't have any luck convincing them..

MsSparkle · 16/09/2008 16:30

It seems funny talking about Christmas already but then i suppose we have to be super organised, otherwise we will be wobbling around busy shops in December getting tired and grumpy! Boots were putting out their Christmas stuff today

Well i have discovered i can no longer walk very far because my hips hurt afterwards. I decided to walk dd to the m&t group yesterday and really suffered after.

Does anyone else get a stitch like pain whe they walk a small distance? My friend said it could be braxton hick pains but i would have thought 24 weeks would be too early for those?

looweeza · 16/09/2008 16:34

yes! i get the stitch pain. i always set off really fast forgetting that i'm pregnant and have to slow down after 2 mins..

also, have had serious hip pain - been limping lots if i walk too much, or sit down for too long . Ended up walking around central London on saturday clutching my boyfriend and holding on to buildings when it got really bad - how cool!

anyway, went to docs today and they've referred me to physio.

god, i love a good moan..

rrrayray · 16/09/2008 16:47

Sorry to all you ladies suffering rashes, pain, etc

I think i mentioned before i've been having AWFUL spots. I've never had any really before, i've always had dry skin. They seem to have finally vacated my Face- hurrah... But are still taking over my chest and back. I guess they will just go with time.

My appetite is ever increasing, i seem to be hungry ALL the time these days. And even more thirsty than ever!!

Chocsolot · 16/09/2008 17:28

Afternoon all,

MissJackson I am a bit alarmed you are allergic to your baby, that really will make the net few months awful...... i hope your OK.

I am already so excited about my scan on friday

My belly and breasts are also itching and i have horrendous stretch marks already.... yes, its definately having a growth spurt!

Hope everyoen sleeps OK tonight

tinkhasanactivebean · 16/09/2008 17:38

rash must be horrid miss j hope it eases abit
getting prepared for xmas is definetly a gr8 idea
as i will be so big at beginning of xmas to do any shopping.
have all of dds pressys sorted and getting stocking fillers @ the wknd dh is ordering his families from amazon will prob get my family vouchers.

LenniEd · 16/09/2008 17:53

Another christmas organiser here! Have got most things now and have started wrapping. More to spread the cost than anything, but DD is a dreadful shopper so have to start early otherwise I'd never get anything!

I am getting Braxton Hicks - have been for a while now, so don't think 24 wks is too early - can't remember when I got them last time, perhaps a little later. You'll know if they are BH cos your belly goes hard and you feel kind of like your lungs have been squashed.

OP posts:
moosemama · 16/09/2008 18:22

MissJackson, sorry to hear about your rash. Just a thought, a mild solution of tea tree and lavender in cold water might help. It certainly does the trick for the itching that comes with thrush (I should know I've had it twice already this pregnancy - I know, sorry - tmi!)

Afraid we are having to leave christmas for a while. I just know from previous experience that if I buy the boys what they want now, they will have changed their minds at least 5 times before christmas and end up being disappointed. Also, still clinging onto the vain hope that DH might get a small percentage of his bonus before then.

Friends and family will be having something made by the boys from the Baker Ross catalogue, plus a photo of the boys for grannies and grandads etc.

I've got DS1 home with a sickness bug. I feel like such a mean Mummy because neither of us believed him when he said he felt sick and didn't want to go yesterday (mainly because he spent the whole of last week saying the same thing). When I went to collect him his teacher said he had been really poorly and looked really ill all afternoon (why on earth they didn't call me I'll never know) and no sooner had I taken his hand than he threw up all over the playground . Poor thing was too weak to walk home.

He's been tucked up on the sofa with temp spikes all day, but at least no more sickness. I've been sitting with him mainly because I have had a pain all day down the lower left side of my abdomen. It feels like a bruise inside but is really sore. I'm not sure, but I think madam has been repeatedly kicking the same spot until its sore.

Still, used the time wisely and finally managed to get my baby costs spreadsheet sorted out as well as finding a few more bits and bobs which I'm now watching on ebay.

Chocsolot · 16/09/2008 18:30

I am quite excited about this xmas, except we said we weren't going to be travellign anywhere this year, obviously at almost 38 weeks! so both sets of parents have decided it would be lovely to come to us! DH will be busy!

Not started shopping yet, but have started planning, baby shopping all gets doen in Oct and Xmas shoppign all in Nov, if i become imobile then everyone gets somethign from amazon this year, it just can't be helped

missjackson · 16/09/2008 18:32

Thanks for advice -- looweeza I am going back to the Docs tomorrow morning and will try to get them to give me something better than E45. Research on the net suggests anti-histamines aren't 'recommended' during pregnancy, but maybe a mild dose will be okay... Had to leave work early today just so I could come home and lie in the bath.

rrrayray glad to hear you've got a bump at last it's quite nice when people see you're pregnant and make nice comments. The other day I didn't have a ticket for the overland train and for once they were checking at the barrier the guy in front of me got charged the usual £20, and I stood there waiting my turn rubbing my tummy when it was my turn apologised and said I had just completely forgotten I couldn't use my Oyster card he just smiled at me and let me through!

stripeywoollenhat · 16/09/2008 19:15

MsS, looweeza, i have the stitch like pain, and also sometimes a really unpleasant little pulling pain near my belly button when i walk fast. and then sometimes my whole bump aches, and sometimes it goes rigid - i asked my doctor if it's normal for it to hurt and she said no! apparently, it's normal for it to be 'uncomfortable' sometimes. i feel that this may be a problem of definitions, myself...

missj, sorry to hear about itching. really hope your doc can sort it.

titch has been planting her tiny feet in my bladder today, at least once nearly resulting in a minor accident. obviously there's no indignity beyond the pale of this pregnancy lark...

so, i 've been thinking about getting a sling - handsfree baby carrying - and am wondering if anybody has used a hotsling?
