Anyone else out there? Just got faint, but definitely there, BFP.

Due 1st April, according to those dodgy due date calculators.

Congrats lauralou1 - yes, a few pains and niggles are quite normal, as are premenstrual type feelings in the first few weeks.

Later on as bump starts emerging you gets some new wierd and wonderful stretching type pains. All sorts of stuff to look forward to.

StorkExpectedInApril · 29/08/2008 10:32

Welcome lauralou1 and extra special congratulations too, after trying for 6yrs you must be overjoyed to be pregnant! My mum waited even longer than that to start her family but (luckily!), she eventually managed it!!!

Hello all

back from seeing consultant - Jumbs, thanks for kind words. Our DS was born at St Michaels too and it was fine, and our lovely lovely consultant is based there so am not budging this time. Have had a few friends say they'll not go there again though - think it depends who you get looking after you.

Anyway, he did a scan, no need for ankle gnawing, and there was a bean with a heartbeat waving at us! Too early to tell anything about the heart or the nuchal translucency at this stage, but at least there is a baby and its heart is definitely beating. He's put my dates forward a little, now due 29 March instead of 1 April, so have redone the list below.

We don't get the OSCAR on the NHS, but the same lovely lovely consultant does them privately at the Nuffield so we are going to book in with him there. Also we'll get a specialist heart scan at 18 weeks with the same cardiologist that we had last time, followed by our anomaly scan (normally at 20 weeks, but they'll just do them all together), so fingers crossed.

They're being lovely and taking really good care of us, so fingers crossed, just only able to think one step ahead at the moment. Focusing on the fact that bean with heart beating is a good thing, and trying not to worry about other things at the mo.

Welcome lauralou!

DungunGirl · 29/08/2008 12:09

welcome lauralou

How cool that we are on the same antenatal thread!!!

bethdivine · 29/08/2008 12:17

littlemy so glad you got the scan and reassurance, sounds like they'll be looking after you well, hope you're feeling better about things now.

i've just been catching up over the last couple of days and all this talk has suddenly made me want an ice bun and sweets! - I'm stuck on the sofa with tonsilitis feeling sorry for myself. GP prescribed penicilin, so I've avoided the lure of googling this in pregnancy when she reassured me it was ok! I can barely swallow anything, and of course the nausea doesn't go away unless I eat something, so sickness is even worse today - plus there's hardly any food in as do the shop on a fri and can't get out. At least DS is in nursery today or he'd be bored out of his mind, bless him.

Congrats to the twin news by the way

am just wondering what the biggest ante-natal group so far has been, we seem to have loads on here now - 60 or so I think I counted, wonder what the record is???

whatawally · 29/08/2008 12:46

Hi everyone- A big congrats to pruners and binky on your twins. Wow- I always woulld have liked twins but I think now that I alreeady have 3 dds, 1 more will be more than enough for me to cope with.

I haven't been feeling so sick the last couple of days, which is good. But I am so tired. Spent all day cleaning the house yesterday as we had a viewing at 6.30. We only rent so it's our landlord who is selling. But the estate agents never bothered to show up. So I did the viewing myself. Dont know what the landlord will say about that but I didn't want to have to send the chap away again.

-I just got off the phone with the landlord and the estate agents told him that the guy never turned up for the viewing last night . I think they forgot and didn't want him to find out... oops he knows now.

Anyway got to go and put little one down fo a nap.

Have a good day all.

StorkExpectedInApril · 29/08/2008 14:25

aw, LittleMy, seeing the heartbeat must've felt great . Not long to wait until the next scan!

Well, I went into our local surgery this morning to collect my notes (have been busy/tardy!) and there was a queue out the door plus half a dozen people sitting in the waiting room. I made sure there was nobody around whom I knew because I knew what was coming...and lo...

Me: Hello, I've come to collect my maternity notes (spoken in hushed tones)

Receptionist: Sorry, you've come to collect what? (spoken in LOUD voice)

Me: I've come to collect my maternity notes (spoken through gritted teeth)

Receptionist: And how many weeks pregnant are you? (spoken in a voice designed for the over 80s)

Me: 6wks (spoken resignedly)

Receptionist: The midwife will call you when you are about 8wks or would you like her mobile number?

I took the mobile number and scuttled off.

I mean, how predictable was that and how untactful!!!

Ho hum. Anyone else planning to make a visit to the FMC in London?

LittleMyDancing · 29/08/2008 16:42

I think they have a special voice reserved for private conversations. They use it for smear tests, too.

Heartbeat was lovely.....and the bean waved! I have to admit to crying, I was so overjoyed at seeing a live baby looking so comfortable in there. I know we're not home and dry by a long chalk, but it's a step in the right direction.

BabyBolat · 29/08/2008 16:58

Ah LittleMy - I've honestly been really struggling with the whole side effects bit of the pregnancy (and feeling very sorry for myself!) but hearing your little wave story has made me get excited again! Can't wait to get to that point and see that all the vomiting and tiredness is worth it!

Sorry Stork but your story made me laugh a lot! I do think they go to a special training school for embarrassing conversation moments!

I gave in and phoned the midwife today as I was DESPERATE to find out when my scan would be! Anyway after I waited for 30 minutes, they said 'we'll call you back!' grrrrr!!! You should no, I am not very good at waiting!

StorkExpectedInApril · 29/08/2008 18:26

Well, I got the urge for a cream cake today so I bought a twin pack of chocolate choux buns from Tesco (you know, the ones loaded with fresh cream), thinking that me and dh could share them, one each. Not a chance, he didn't even get to see the box!

MegBusset · 29/08/2008 19:11

I feel very ropey today. Really tired and been queasy all day. I think last time I started feeling better around 3 months, so hope the next 6 weeks go quickly! Right now it's a case of surviving til bedtime...

Got my booking in appt next week so I'll be 7+4. No idea about the scan though -- last time it was at 11 weeks.

LittleMyDancing · 29/08/2008 19:14

ahem. do we have anyone in Edinburgh in the group?

I have a desperate craving for Edinburgh Rock.....

Can swap for Brizzle type specialities - large pasty anyone? Or some cider? (possibly not suitable for pregnant people......)

LittleMyDancing · 29/08/2008 20:02

And Gemzooks.......got any salted liquorice about your person?

oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and those sugar hearts you can buy in Holland, in pastel colours with little messages on them. Far superior to Love Hearts......

Gemzooks · 29/08/2008 21:34

littlemy, I'll send you some but not till you're 35 weeks, cos it can apparently induce labour in large quantities. I was eating chunks of it with my raspberry leaf tea to bring on labour with DS (don't know if it was that that worked, though!).

thebluefoxategreensocks · 29/08/2008 22:09

Hi everyone! Congratulations to those who found a double surprise from their scans - how exciting! The idea of twins seems quite nice - but not sure how I could manage 2 at once since I have 2 young ones already!

Not feeling too bad tonight - for once! Maybe it's the vitamins I took earlier today? I bought a B complex (with folic acid & brewers yeast) made by Seven Seas today. Thought I really needed something to give me a boost since I can't seem to eat any veggies at the moment. I did manage some sweet corn with my spaghetti tonight, so that's a bit of progress.

Got my appointment with the midwives on Wednesday next week, so that's exciting. I'm sure I saw them earlier (like 5-6 weeks) with both previous pregnancies - as I'll be over 9 weeks by then. Anyway, just hoping I'll still get a scan sometime soon. I actually phoned them as I'd not gotten a letter yet and had seen the GP about 10 days previously (she told me to ring if I'd not heard from them in a fortnight, but I was impatient! lol). Anyway, they'd only got the referral that day and would be writing me a letter, so saved some time for both of us!

LittleMyDancing · 29/08/2008 22:24

Really Gemzooks? Wish I'd known that last time round, DS went so overdue I'd have shovelled it in by the kilo!

What about the sugar hearts then, do they induce labour or am I allowed them?

girlylala0807 · 29/08/2008 22:38

Hey,

I thought id join in.

Im due April 14th apparently.....

Excited

xxxs

SnoozyVic · 29/08/2008 23:24

conkertree - thanks for your question. I'm doing a planting design course at a college in Enfield.

I'll be 9 weeks by the time I have my booking appointment with the midwife at the surgery. Anyone know whether she ever does anything more than book your scan and check your wee and take a blood sample. I wondered if they might be able to hear a heartbeat - what do they use to do that? Is it a piece of kit that my midwife prob won't have at the surgery? Any experiences appreciated x

SnoozyVic · 29/08/2008 23:28

Congratulations girlylala. Is it your first? How are you feeling?

lixanismapolium · 30/08/2008 09:15

Congrats to all of the new mummies-to-be and to all of you who have now seen your little ones - especially the double surprises!!! WOW - don't think I would cope well with that news!

I get my booking in appt and first scan all in one go at 12.4 weeks. That's not until October, so it seems such a long way off.

Still feeling quite sick a lot of the time, but have managed to get through it at work it by eating lots of extra snacks. We have a decent canteen in the building and they've been doing quite well out of me the last week or so. I seem to need potatoes to keep me going. Hash browns at breakfast time, mash at lunch, chips for dinner. Amazing for the waistline as I'm sure you can imagine, but if it stops me feeling so yuk it's worth it. Just hope the ms doen't go on too long or I'll be huge from extra fat rather than baby.

Going to take DD to Chesington today ....... mmmmmmmmm hot donuts!!!!! Thought I should make the effort before I get too big.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Oh, before I go - going on holiday to a very hot climate at the end of next week - has anyone done that whilst in 1st trimester? Any tips? A little concerned about the heat and have also heard the sun can do funny things to your skin??????

conkertree · 30/08/2008 09:31

snoozyvic - that sounds like fun - is it for interest or for a job?

as far as I remember with ds, at the first appointment it was just take your history and the rest of what you said. I dont remember hearing/seeing a heart beat before the 12 week scan.

lix - i am the same with the snacks - dont even knhow if i'm feeling that sick yet - just the odd bit of slight nausea, but definately hungrier than normal.

littlemydancing - i have edinburgh rock in my house but i think it was quite old when i bought it, and is not the best - bit hard - Really should chuck it out.

stork - lol at your story - but very annoying. I think becuase they deal with thingsl like that every day, its not a big deal to them, but they forget how big a deal it is to each individual person.

off to see friends today and she has been pg twice so not sure how good i will be at hiding it. at least i can be driving for the alcohol side of things.

hope you all have a nice weekend.

StorkExpectedInApril · 30/08/2008 09:41

Morning everyone and welcome to girlylala0807, I'll add your details to the list...

lix - I guess you should do the usual and apply plenty of sun cream, wear a big hat and stay in the shade as much as possible in the middle of the day. I wouldn't worry too much about the heat though - think about all the Indian, African and other equatorial-living ladies who have to cope with the heat during pregnancy!! Perhaps you could find a nice, cool pool to dip into - sounds good to me!

Congrats to the ladies with twins, I have my 1st scan on tuesday to see i'm having one or more.

Soooooo hungrey if i don't eat snacks regulary then feel dizzy and sick. Seem to have gone off meat and most of my diet now consists of yellow/orange food, ie lots of cereal

foxymagoo · 30/08/2008 12:30

LittleMy - so glad your scan went well.

I need to bow out I'm afraid. At hospital this morning as my brownish bleeding had been getting heavier in the last couple of days and I had some clotting last night. No heartbeat detected and it looks like baby stopped growing at 6 weeks . Leaving things to take their course and soo glad I'm off work next week.

I knew there was something up with my lack of ms symptoms as they were of biblical proportions last time!

DH and me sad but relieved in a way as its the uncertainty I hate and my gut was telling me all was not well. We did fall pg in our first month of trying so fingers crossed it will happen soon. Will pop back in if it does, but maybe not 'til after my 12 week scan!

Wishing you all healthy and blooming pregnanices and big bouncing easter babies.
