Due April 2009? Am I really the first?

Anyone else out there? Just got faint, but definitely there, BFP.

Due 1st April, according to those dodgy due date calculators.

Gemzooks · 12/08/2008 17:28

tictac, don't worry... as others have said bleeding is quite common. specially if you have no cramps..

salbysea, it's normal to feel totally emotional! I cried over America's Next Top Model and even speedskating with last pregnancy (thought how tragically hard on the athletes it was!). Hormones are all over the place. The worst I found is after the birth where you feel all grr and like a mother bear guarding its young. Later, everyone admits that you were totally crazy at the time!

SalBySea · 12/08/2008 17:39

hmm Gemzookes - I know you're right but I am still really winding myself up. I've had a dull ache on my right side all over the weekedend, wouldnt call it pain, more of a niggle (no shoulder tip pain, last week's spotting has stopped completely) but I still feel that I shouldnt let myself get excited about the prospect of having a baby cause it could be ectopic (or a number of other things going through my head)

Anyway I went to the drop in clinic at my docs today to talk to them about the right sided niggle but the surgery was FILTHY! I moved recently and my old village surgery wont have me anymore cause I'm outta their catchment area and had to register with a town centre one. I stayed for 20 mins and had to leave - it was so grimey! and all the other people in there were smack-heads and down and outs - there werent even seats - had to sit on the grubby window ledge. So I left. Have a MW apt on thur so will just have to wait for that to put my mind at rest but TBH I really dont wanna stay at that surgery. Not sure if we can afford to go private though!

I dont know if I am being snobby or over sensitive in my pregnant state or if it really was unacceptably dirty - there were no other "normal" professional people waiting in there. My HTB backed me up but I have a feeling he's just agreeing with anything I say at the mo!

ScrumptiousBumptious · 12/08/2008 20:11

Evening all!

Just trying to catch up with the days events!

So soundbites and gemzooks, have you decided to tell people yet? Very excited for you Gemzooks, telling your parents! I'm still keeping it quiet a little longer. Not sure why, as had told at least 3 people by this time before. I am enjoying it being a secret still though I think.

gemzooks, I'm so jealous that you have had a scan already! So amazing that you even saw the heart beating. Can you get a scan picture from a 7 week scan?

Still catching up! Welcome megbusset, I think you're the only new name I've encountered so far today.

Sorry to hear your a bit concerned TicTac. If it's any help, I have cramping pains like a period is coming every day, and have had since 4 weeks (just 7 weeks now). I had this last time too, and everything was fine.

Actually - talking about counting weeks - I'm not sure I'm doing it right. My last period was on the 29th June, which was a Sunday. I have a 28 day cycle - roughly. Do you coun from the first day of last period as 1, or from the next sun if you get me (i.e count 1 at he end of the first complete week? Arrgghhh. How pregnant am I? Someone help!

Also I don't have my booking appointment until I'm 9 and a half weeks. Is this crazy late? Everyone else seems to be having them already!

Right - going to catch up on last page of posts!

ScrumptiousBumptious · 12/08/2008 20:16

Phew, the last page was nice and short.

I am finding it hard to remember all the pregnancy health do's and don'ts at the moment. Is anyone else like this? I guess in a way I am going to be a bit more relaxed this time, but I did intend to try. I just keep forgetting about things like homemade mayo and checking ingredients / peanuts etc. Repeat to self, Must Try Harder!

Felt pretty good today - not as sick. Quite tired though. Am vey impressed by all you working ladies! I don't know how I did it last time!

I can' even begin to think of names. Things still don't seem real at all to me. I don't think they will until I have the 12 week scan, or even later, until it kicks, or I get big.

OOhh - the thought of it all to come is just soooooooo exciting though.

(sad old me is getting all emotional - what a suprise!)

ToastnHoney · 12/08/2008 20:26

Scrumptious - my last period was 28th June and my cycle's the same, and the dr said my due date was 6 April (he used a cute little wheel thingy, none of your internet calculator technology) so this would make yours 7 April.

Gemzooks, that's really reassuring about the food. It all seems like such a minefield and I've ended up feeling really confused about what's ok and what's not! But sounds like so long as we avoid the key few things the rest is probably ok.

Another qn, is there any problem with doing yoga or pilates in the first trimester? At what point are you supposed to do 'pregnancy yoga'?

ScrumptiousBumptious · 12/08/2008 20:36

Thanks toast. I am getting so impatient about my booking appointment so I can discuss it all with the midwife. I'll leave it on the list for now, as I have a weird feeling I might have ovulated later this month, and the 12 week scan will date me quite differently.

I'm not really sure about yoga or pilates as I'm a lazy toad. Friends have told me they have always been advised to let the instructors know straight away if they're pregnant, and the instructor will then adapt the excercises for you where needed.

cosomogirl how have you been feeling? Has any food become more appealing? I can see from your pregnancy posts that the morning and actually all day sickness is getting you down. Hang on in there, it can't go on forever.

mathsmummy27 · 12/08/2008 20:45

Scrumptious - cycle 26 days and LMP 30th June, due 6th April so that sounds right.
Toast - I have started already and they said its fine, its very relaxing and lots of bolsters/pillows - heavenly.
I have given in and bought a) a new mattress b) new pillows (bouncy) c) a new duvet (cuddly) and d) a full-body pregnancy pillow. Hopefully that will make it a tiny bit easier to get comfy when those final insomniac months kick in! Expensive but I washed everything today and got in new bed totally amazing !

ScrumptiousBumptious · 12/08/2008 20:50

Wow, your bed sounds amazing mathsmummy. My bed seriously needs a bit of a fluffy and bouncy makeover but I don't think it's going to happen (not until all babies are out the way, the amount of milk I leak when breastfeeding!) Sorry - waaaaaay too much info there!

So I think we need to get to know each other a little better everyone!

Why the name mathsmummy? Are you Carol Vorderman?

Grrr silly computer keeps freezing hence double posts.

Gemzooks · 12/08/2008 21:05

Yes, I'm impressed by mathsmummy since I can barely add up a shopping bill (but can speak Russian, does that count?)

Toastnhoney, the only thing I personally found dodgy was anything that opens up your hips too much, like you know that common stretch where you sit in a cross legged position but not with your legs crossed, and you push your knees towards the floor, well that one can strain your pelvis, for example. So I would tell the instructor... I found the Pilates in Pregnancy DVD OK (though not mind blowing), and exercises from the Baby and Beyond book. Otherwise I really found gentle step ups good, used to go to the park and just find a step to go up and down (revealing more of my madness here!)

sal, I would imagine you have the right to change surgeries if you don't like it? You should feel comfortable with wherever you go..

mathsmummy27 · 12/08/2008 21:38

Yes Scrumptious think I need to invest in waterproof undersheet also - I remember the deluge!
I am a mathematician ;)
Any more and I'm afraid I'd have to kill you.
What does everyone else do?

mathsmummy27 · 12/08/2008 21:39

Forgot to add - Gem, I am seriously impressed by your linguistic skills. Russian would come in handy in my line of work - may have to recruit you...

thebluefoxategreensocks · 12/08/2008 23:53

Hiya - probably all the good pregnant mums are in bed by this time of night! lol I've actually been in bed long before now for about a week (rare for me, as night owl - but been sooooo tired), anyway guess I'm having a late night tonight - was out at friends & not relaxed for sleep yet. Not yet booked appt for GP (which is needed for referal to midwives - for some crazy reason! surely the midwives could do a preg test there in office & save the NHS but not having to bother the GPs about it - a wasted visit IMHO! lol) Anyway, hopefully I'll get one booked soon, but got several things on in the next 10 days or so, so might wait till it quiets down before ringing them. Looking forward to 12 week scan too! Life is busy enough with 2 toddlers tho, so I'm sure the weeks will pass quickly enough.

Well, I'm off to sleep now - feeling awfully sick right now. I think sleep will help - always does! Just don't get much of it!

Gemzooks · 13/08/2008 07:31

Hi all,

Thought I'd cheer you up with a quite reassuring statistic: after you've completed 6 weeks after your last period, miscarriage risk is only 8%, and after 8.5 weeks it's only 2 %. Of course it can happen, but I find these numbers reassuring!

Info from wikipedia but medically reference:

25% of pregnancies are miscarried by the sixth week LMP (since the woman's Last Menstrual Period).[27][28] Clinical miscarriages (those occurring after the sixth week LMP) occur in 8% of pregnancies.[28]

The risk of miscarriage decreases sharply after the 10th week LMP, i.e. when the fetal stage begins.[29] The loss rate between 8.5 weeks LMP and birth is about two percent; loss is ?virtually complete by the end of the embryonic period."[30]

whatawally · 13/08/2008 07:44

Hi all,

Thought I better pop in and say hello. As I haven't been back since i joined the group. Sorry for absence. We have been so busy, we have just come home from a week camping. Which was very emotional. Our first ever trip and the airbeds only stayed up for about 2hrs each night. So I was shattered all week and that seemed to make my morning sickness worse.

It's good to see we're a nice big group already, a big hello to all the new bfps. I haven't got time to individually reply to anyone at the moment so will pop in again later, just wanted you all to know that I am still around.

When have people got their booking in appointments? I had to fill out a form and wait for the midwife to ring me (still waiting) but then am only 6 weeks today so still early days.

Hope you all have a good day.

DungunGirl · 13/08/2008 09:08

Tic Tac

I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you! Are you ok? Give us an update sweetheart.

lixanis

Yeah! They are the same age! Cool!
Well...DH started saying that DS had to be gentle with mummy as there was a baby in my tummy. But he didn't seem to like the idea at all! He got a upset and insisted on climbing all over me and insisting that he was my baby.

So....might be difficult! I am reckoning, no point in stressing him out so early on when ANYTHING could still happen.

So I am going to wait until 12 weeks and I know everything is going to be ok, then I will start introducing the idea back to him. Also, I have bought a book called 'WHATS IN YOUR TUMMY MUMMY' published by Pavilion Childrens Books.

www.amazon.co.uk/Whats-Your-Tummy-Mummy-Lloyd/dp/1843650916/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qi d=1218614636&sr=8-2

He really likes the book, it is a funny take on the growing baby in mummy's tummy!

So yeah....have a look!

Oddeyes

I know what you mean. I found it good to have the support of my family when I had the MC. It would have been horrible to suffer in silence.

Fingers crossed this time!

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 13/08/2008 09:33

Morning ladies, just catching up on all the posts! Still feeling sick as anything, also have a hospital appointment today to ultrasound a lump in my arm, feeling quite anxious about it.

Doctor thinks it's just a fatty lump (charming!) but you can't help imagining the worst, can you? So once that's over I'll be able to relax a bit more, with any luck.

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 13/08/2008 10:10

Morning everyone. Gemzooks - thanks for those stats. Very reassuring. I think I should be 6 weeks today and feeling extremely pregnant: swollen, tired, queasy and all food tastes bitter. While I feel pretty horrible, I am glad I am feeling such strong symptoms. Went to bed and to sleep at 8:30 last night (although DD and the B cat ensured I didn't sleep straight through)

I actually have a scan next Tuesday. It's not related to this pregnancy but to check on a cyst that was picked up after the MC last month. But I am hoping that I will get a glimse of whatever is in there for further reassurance.

BinkyB · 13/08/2008 10:45

I have an early scan this evening and am so nervous, I don't know what to do with myself. I think it's going to be too early anyway (with a 33-day cycle and LMP 29/6 I reckon I'm only about 5.5 weeks?) to see much but hopefully if all goes well we can rule out anything like an ectopic, which is why my Dr wants to do it.

If it all goes OK I will add myself to the list, feels too much like tempting fate today otherwise!

LuLuBai · 13/08/2008 11:43

Oh good luck BinkyB. I can't wait until my scan, but I'm sure I will be petrified on the day itself.

LuLuBai · 13/08/2008 11:51

(not that my scan is even actually looking for babies or anything)

Jumbs · 13/08/2008 14:11

Good lucky BinkyB!

Hows everyone doing? Just wondering, am I mad to tell my 2 work colleagues tomorrow? We are discussing our team objectives and who is going to manage a new member of staff (starting in Jan). Think they want me to do but I would like them not to waste their time, my work people are really lovely and I don't want to put them out. Plus, if anything should happen they will probably need to know anyway? I will forbid them telling anyone else until I'm back from hols and had scan.

I'm going to book private scan for wk 11 of pg and make m/wife booking appt. for wk 12, which will be mid september, ages away!

Yoga - I did a pg yoga dvd last time but it didn't make sense until i had a bumb. The pg yoga classes I heard of in Bristol are for 14wks and beyond. It was lovely though, really relaxing and the stretches really help keep you mobile in the later months. I had no swelling of ankles or anything even though I was massive and went to 40+11 with a 10lb baby.

Scrumptious - I think you said your 1st day of last AF was a sunday so the following sunday you will be 1 week, and 40 wks later will be your EDD, so your EDD should be a sunday. Thats how I understand it anyway. So, I think you should be 7wks on Sunday?

Littlemy - I'd be so tempted to ask them to do a quick ultrasound on my tummy while they were doing my arm if i was you!!

Gemzooks · 13/08/2008 14:34

mathsmummy, ok, I'll work for you as long as I don't have to do any actual maths!

littlemy, I too would be tempted to ask them to have a quick look at my tummy, but bet they'll refuse..

Jumbs, I don't think it's bad to tell colleagues. I'm only keeping shtum till we arrive in UK to see family on Friday.. I'm much more of an early teller, because if you miscarry it's not like anyone thinks badly of you, and they can be there to support you. DH much more of the 'wait till 12 weeks school', as well as not wanting to find out the sex!
