Anyone else out there? Just got faint, but definitely there, BFP.

Due 1st April, according to those dodgy due date calculators.

Thanks everyone Getting quite excited now - no symptoms whatsoever, im sure i was being sick this early last time but im not complaining im not on the list yet though ;)

Clairedaz · 10/08/2008 13:08

OddEyes Yes I am not going to register until I've managed to hopefully get a scan at 8-9 wks.

Only symptons at moment are some feelings of nauseau and also feel tired.

foxymagoo · 10/08/2008 14:34

Afternoon all and welcome new BFPs!

First hints of morning sickness here (boo)- just slight 'waves' coming over me.

Early pregnancy is such a cloak and dagger affair isn't it! DH and me were at relatives yesterday and played out this fake scenario of who was going to drive home so my non drinking wouldn't be spotted!

Already got my story lined up for friends when we go out in Edinburgh on 23rd - I'm driving as I was "out with playgroup Mums last night and I'm rough as a badger"

Don't know how I'm going to hide it from work as last time I had to throw up in a bin in the office!

BTW for any first timers, the books I really enjoyed reading whilst pregnant were:

Yummy Mummy's Survival Guide by Liz Fraser (sounds really twee but was excellent and really down to earth)

Minus Nine to One by Jools Oliver (Jamie's wife). Really good read about overcoming her fertility problems and subsequent pregnancies

Complete Pregnancy and Birth by Mirium Stoppard - my bible

thanks for the book recomendations foxymagoo

We ran out and panic bought lots of books yesterday as I have no idea what food and beauty products I'm supposed to avoid

  • am pretty sure I did/ate every single contraindicated thing in the 2 weeks prior to BFP but am being good now

Getting married is the best cover for not smoking "dont want to crave one on my wedding day so cutting down now" and not eating blue cheese etc "got a wedding dress to fit into" but I'm finding it pretty hard to cut down on caffine. Plus my hen night is very active with things like GoApe and Zorbing, which I'm not sure I can do but dont want to tell all my hens about the pregnancy yet!

ForcesSweetheart · 10/08/2008 21:13

Will stop lurking here now as my AF arrived like clockwork on Saturday morning. Best of luck to you all for trouble free pregnancies and lovely births. Lis x

Gemzooks · 10/08/2008 22:13

Aw, sorry to hear that Forcessweetheart. Hoping you'll be on the next month's thread!

welcome to new joiners!

Please wish me luck cos I have an early scan tomorrow afternoon, hoping it's not 'Dr Death' who I had the 12 week missed miscarriage scan experience with in February. Poor chap, he couldn't help it of course!

Hope everyone is getting an early night!

Re books, I found the Dr Yehudi Gordon book really amazing, called Birth and Beyond. One book for first timers which is very true is Life After Birth (can't remember who it's by). Never before have I read a book and thought 'Oh, what complete rubbish' and then changed my mind COMPLETELY after actually becoming a mother.

Also, I wish as a first timer I had read up more on babycare. I read so much about labour etc, but not on actually when the baby arrived! Having said that I can barely remember how to do breastfeeding, swaddling and all that so hope it comes back to me!

Clairedaz · 11/08/2008 07:08

I'm sure that everyone is thinking of you gemzooks - everything is crossed.

There are plenty who have been in the same boat so know how you are feeling.

MrsClippy · 11/08/2008 07:41

Good luck Gemzooks
I have an early scan this week too
I'm really not feeling nauseous and I sort of think I should be, iykwim?
It's somehow more stressful second time round!
As for books, I didn't read too much about babycare but it seemed to go fine. I wish I had known more about breastfeeding. I think this time round I am just going to get a couple of slings, the more I have read about babies who are carried crying less, the better it sounds!

DungunGirl · 11/08/2008 08:22

Oddeyes

Hey there matey! So nice that you and I are back on an Antenatal club thread eh!

What have you done/been offered this time round due to the mc in march?

I had to see a GP I have never seen before as my regular GPs are all on summer holidays! She was slightly useless...I asked about an early scan as I had a MC last time and she just hummed and said that the midwife would sort all that out.

Well....I am not going to even see the midwife until I am well into week 6/7! It might be all over again by then...

Can you tell I am a little anxious?

mizzannie · 11/08/2008 08:27

thanks for book recos foxymagoo and gemzooks. i have been reading myleene klass' my bump and me which is not exactly high level reading, but wanted something non-medical and anecdotal to ease me into the whole thing. also have what to expect when you're expecting to balance myleene out (but it just makes me feel guilty about all the cheese/wine /gnts before realised i was pg)!

foxymagoo - finding the secrecy thing a bit difficult too. have used the hangover excuse, but best friend guessed immediately, am a terrible liar it seems. am thinking of hibernating until the scan!

April2009Baby · 11/08/2008 09:22

I bought 'What to expect' and it is driving me mad already. I am NOT washing my fruit and veg with a special detergent, no matter what they say I 'may want to' do. Did anyone else find it a really bossy book?

Is the Miriam Stoppard one better? I'd like something quite factual, but not too American and not too hysterical.

OddEyes · 11/08/2008 11:33

Hope all goes well with the scan gemzooks!

DungunGirl - i had never heard of the phrase "knicker checker" until march but now I am one! It is hard not to worry isn't it!
I am able to go along to the epu that dealt with me in march and self refer without appointment whenever I feel the need for a reassurance scan, at least that was what the doc said at the last check up scan. So I am thinking I would like to hold out until 8 weeks, if I can, to be certain there is a heart beat. If you go at 6 and there isn't a beat then you have to have another one two weeks later...so I must hold out for sanity's sake! Was planning on waiting until I had had scan before seeing GP but am now thinking I may as well just go check-in and let her know because it was so good last time that she knew.

Books: I had and have subsequently given to all my expectant friends: 'Your Pregnancy Bible: The Experts' Guide to the Nine Months of Pregnancy and the First Weeks of Parenthood'.
It was my nightly read for the first year through pregnancy and beyond.

OddEyes · 11/08/2008 11:36

This place is really good for sorting my thoughts out - have now booked doc appointment for next Monday!

Hope everyone ok this morning

Ds is in at nursery today so must get off here and clean the pigsty!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 11/08/2008 11:53

Morning everyone (or is it nearly noon?). Hope everyone is having a good day. I keep feeling awfully sick, but so far not actually been sick yet - hope that lasts! But I'm feeling sick a good bit of my waking hours - just underlying sick feeling with occasional peaks where I feel as if I'll nearly be sick. All sorts of foods and smells are really awful - I nearly hate cooking! But with 2 toddlers and a husband to feed, I must keep going! LOL Very tired too - but had that with both my previous pregnancies, so just have to try and catch up on rests here & there I guess - but not so easy this time round with two little ones. Not sure I felt this bad so early on (sick & tired since about 4 weeks, I'd think - bit more than a full week before I got BFP).

Well, hope everyone has a nice day! x

Claireykitten · 11/08/2008 11:59

Hi can I join you all I found out yesterday I am expecting dc2!

I have really really wanted this ever since having my DS 9mths ago but sensibility had FINALLY kicked in and I admitted to myself that financially it was the last thing we needed and lo and behold I get a BFP!

I am really happy (very scared but happy)but have decided that I really dont like knowing this early, going by LMP I am almost 7 weeks but I know for a fact that I only conceived a maximum of 2 weeks ago because it was whilst we were on holiday without any contraception. Would just like to state for the record that it was 5-6 days before AF was due so I was pretty much convinced we were safe (wont make that mistake again!)I feel like such a naive (sp?)little girl!

Sorry for waffling but I needed to vent somewhere and get it all out of my system I hope you dont mind.

I havent read every single post so far but I promise I will keep up from now on!!

OneBoyOneGirl · 11/08/2008 12:03

Morning all,

Still no symptoms for me, i just want a teeny weeny bit of sickness to let me know i haven't imagined the whole thing Im sure i had it with the other two by now, and i had sore boobs with both - that was how i knew i was pregnant, but not this time.

Really sinking in now too, i had one missed mc which was picked up on my 12 weeks scan but that was before my two were born, still scares the hell out of me though.

So lovely to have all the support of other april mums who know exactly how each others feeling )

I will hopefully be back soon moaning about how crappy i feel

Kalikaroo · 11/08/2008 12:28

Hi all - just got back from my visit to the UK. Hope you're all having a good day.

My day is a bit crap so far - yesterday I started to spot. It's not very much and mostly 'old' blood, so I'm trying to keep positive (though it's not really working ) I've made an appointment to see a doctor tomorrow, but I know that there's not really anything anyone can do except wait and see. Don't have any cramping though, which is maybe a good sign??

Sorry to be so down in the dumps, but I just can't concentrate on work today and need to get it off my chest.

mrsfossil · 11/08/2008 12:36

Hello ladies, I feel soooooo sleeeeepy all the time had a 2.5 hour nap on sunday then went to bed at 10pm and was snooring by the time dh came out of the bathroom. Boobs feel like they have been beaten with a cricket bat and i feel like an elephant,

and the worst symtom is this stupid grin i can't take off my face I still can't believe i'm pregnant.
SOOOO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!

ps i've been told that the pregnancy bible is an excellent book.

salstars · 11/08/2008 12:38

Hi all,

I've just got really sore boobs - so much so that I'm considering wearing a bikini top into the shower.

Apart from that, just some gripey feelings down below - presume that this is things starting to stretch? I had a complete mc in May but had no pain associated with that, so not too nervous that these gripes are anything to worry about. Having said that, it's two days until the equivalent time when I had my mc (at 5.5wks), so am crossing my fingers that I can get through to the end of the week!

My this time last time I had the metallic taste and was off lots of food and tea&coffee. This time so far I can still eat anything, although have a leaning towards savoury food and couldn't finish a chocolate pudding yesterday, which is very unusual for me. Do you think it's a boy?!

Thanks for all the book recommendations, but I'm not thinking about all that for now. Maybe once I've had a successful scan next month.. and anyway, I always leave things to the last minute!

Lastly, I'm looking forward to sharing all your support during the next few months. Thanks for reading this far!

mrsfossil · 11/08/2008 12:48

Hello salstars,

have all my fingers and toes crossed for you. it must be a very anxious time for you.

I went off wine straight away with my ds it was the first symtom, in fact it tasted so horrid that it made me suspect that i'd caught that month so i did a test. With this pregnancy i had a sip of wine at the weekend and it still tasted great, (shame that),

i'm also feeling a bit grippy down there so i'm glad its a normal thing.
best wishes anyway.

DungunGirl · 11/08/2008 12:55

salstars

I had a complete miscarriage in March and I didn't have any cramping or pain either. I just started to bleed. I was 5 days away from hitting 7 weeks.

Hope it is a good sign that this time round I too have got quite a bit of on-off mild cramping! I don't think any of us lot that have had an early miscarriage will be able to relax until we hit week 12!

I've had slightly sore boobs - on and off. But my biggest irritation is that I am getting lower back/hip ache. Every morning I get out of bed and I am stiff ! Once I have got out of bed and moved about, it goes away...but man....I only got this when I was about 7/8 months with my first!

oddeyes
I know what you mean! I am also proffessional 'knicker checker'. I feel on edge all the time! I am really moist down there this time round ( sorry for tmi! ) so I find myself taking trips to the loo just to make sure it isn't blood stained!

I am not going to enjoy the pregnancy until I see my baby's heart beating strong on a scan....ohhhh so long to wait....

I even did another pregnancy test this morning, to make sure that the line was darker this time compared to last week to convince myself that my HCG levels are rising like they should!!!!
