VintageGardenia · 14/07/2008 08:28

Morning all, just on to check for birth announcements and say good luck to you labouring ones!

CC hope your little fellow is happy enough today & not too raw in the throat, likewise Buckets with your little girl's ears (have no experience of ear probs in all DS's 9 yrs I'm afraid, can offer nothing).

miamla what a lovely mother you have! She will be understanding about the cradle, I'm sure. of your nursery preparations, all those skirting boards and now the walls. I'm sure when you're finished you'll be free to come round and do mine...

LOL at Dirk Benedict!!

TS why do you think you have milk issues, did someone say this to you? I'm sure it can't be good to think that way, if you are planning to bf gotta think positive! What is support for bf like in US? (Sorry for quizzing you again on how US works. If you can't be arsed answering I will understand!)

I was reading a very hot debate on FF/BF just now, apparently it's only 1 per cent of women who can't breastfeed, though obviously lots more end up not bfing either through choice or because of rubbish support. I think Ireland has a very low rate - around 40 per cent - and that is measured on leaving hospital, plenty give up immediately afterwards. And I'd say it's still reasonably rare to see a mother bf in public here (though obviously feeding in public is very much supported officially). I must say I am hoping it works out (I did bf DS till 11 months) but if it doesn't, well that's life.

Buckets · 14/07/2008 08:41

Morning all. DD seems fine but it's a nice day so I'm keeping her home with me and DS and we'll brave the walk-in sesion at the GP later.

Just wanted to give a big cheer for the lovely dads around here eg TS's appreciative one, Ooops' one with the nerve to go gynaecologically scuba diving etc. Shall we have a theme today to post something nice about our DPs?

Bealcain your boobs are leaking because oxytocin has the dual role of causing contractions and the let-down reflex. Have you got any of those breast shell things? You could collect it and slip it in your kids' cereal as a vitamin supplement!

CC Hope your DS manages to fight it off without actually noticing. Is he old enough to understand gargling? Bit of warm salty water to gargle is good for angry throats when aspirin won't do.

CaptainCaveman · 14/07/2008 08:53

Morning , and I hope you are all well? We were up at 6.45 with dh as his alarm woke us all up.

Ds seems ok, not complaining at all about his throat which is fabulous for us both. He is currently eating dry cereal (his choice) so clearly no throat pain there. Thanks for gargling suggestion buckets, I will try this if he gets any soreness. Poor you oops with all that tonsilitis - I had Bells Palsy twice when I was 7 and 8, caused by swollen tonsils, so mine were whipped out age 8.

Plans for today include:
drinking tea
putting car seat back together
packing hospital bag
going to town to get bday prezzie for MIL
hanging the washing out

Wonder how much I'll get done

alittlebitshy · 14/07/2008 09:12

Morning everyone!
Just checking in - then am about to waddle to other end of hgh st (we live just off one end of it) to meet a friend. She's the one lending me the super duper breast bump, though she doesn't have it right now as somone else has it (eek - hope it gets back in time).

Hope the poorly ears and throats of various dcs are improving.

Glad TS, oops and bealcain are keeping their legs crossed for the moment ....

This is my last full day of freedom. Tomorrow and weds dd has half days then that's it for school til sept. Not sure how I am going to manage the next week (is 10 days til my section now - argh!) ....

ChaCha · 14/07/2008 09:37

ALBS - Oh wow! Just 10 days to go for you Care to swap dates?

CC - Glad DS is well, have also started the day with best of intentions, so far children are dressed (thanks to DH - there's my contribution to 'big up' the DP's for today) have had brekkie and are happily playing. Washing is on - but em...still one load to come in from yesterday DH after having tidied everything while i rested upstairs brought in only essentials lol, can't complain toys were all put away, dishwasher on, part washing in and he even bathed the boys and made me some snacks.

Would like to: finish paint job in bathroom, rearrange bathroom paraphernelia, get through all the washing, put away, have DH's clothes all ironed and ready for when in hospital as well as DC. Change bed linen, declutter spare bedroom, sort through those useless kitchen drawers that accumulate all sorts of junk....think i better stop...1 out of 30 'wish i could do' will suffice me thinks!

Miamla - How lovely!! What a sweet mum. Am sure she won't be at all put out by cot, she will be thinking of pip's safety first. Have often had that problem with hotels with having 2 DC, i explain that we don't need a cot and that our DC sleep one in our bed and one in a pull down/sofabed but they often don't allow it. My friend who has 3 under 5 never mentions it and no one says anything when they check in - even weirder!

Buckets - Hope all ok at walk in.

Sarahn & PG1 - Lots of washing!!!! Energy this way pls.

Forgot the grocery shop will be here in a while - pooh at putting it all away.

Here's to a good day all x

cyteen · 14/07/2008 10:15

Hello girlies,

Great new thread TS, well done, and with so much going on for you over the weekend as well.

AnnVan I laughed at your dream about four identical Johns I had a dream the other night that everyone in my NCT group had finally had their babies, including me (yay!), and we were meeting up again for the first time. There was an Excel spreadsheet with all the info on it for each couple (when baby arrived, birthweight, name etc.) and I noticed that two of the girls had called their sons Santos. Typically, there was no name next to mine...a prophecy dream, methinks.

Sazzles I like Emma Louise better than Poppy Louise...think it goes better with Lucie than another -ey name would, iyswim.

miamla am impressed at your nursery, it sounds lovely - in fact I'm impressed by everyone who's organised a whole other room for their babies. Ours is still cluttered up with move-related stuff we haven't found a place for yet, plus three massive bags of clothes that our landlady left here with 'charity shop' marked on them I know she and/or her partner meant to ferry them away after we'd moved in, but surprise surprise, it didn't happen so no doubt DP will end up having to sort it out, just as he did with the huge pile of bags of rubbish that needed taking to the tip. I draw the line at him sorting out all the crap that's in our garden though (dead boiler, cardboard box full of builder's rubble) - landlady's partner can bloody arrange that one!

In case it isn't blindingly obvious, I'm in a mood today. Had a brilliant weekend at the festival and saw/heard loads of great music, but woke up this morning with my first official "I'm sick of being pregnant" vibe going on. Things I'm sick of: constant thrush; not being able to have sex (due to constant thrush); waking up every morning with aching legs; looking like an egg on legs; being knackered all the time, even by walking up the road to the shop; having to wait to meet my baby; having to wait to get my body back; Braxton Hicks that make it impossible to get comfy; the constant worry about something going wrong in these last few weeks, after it's taken us so long to get here.

So don't mind me, I'll just chunter away in the corner if that's alright.

CaptainCaveman · 14/07/2008 10:26

Hey cyteen I shall join you in that corner, if you don't mind? I feel like crying for no reason other than I do. I feel anxious, like if I wasn't taking meds I would be a gibbering wreck on the floor. Pa-thet-ic.

I think I am worrying about the birth and immediately post-natally. With ds he was also a planned cs and I was a wreck, officially nuts (in my mind anyway ). This time I have been very well looked after and I know I can carry on taking my meds but today I have started to feel the beginnings of anxiety.
So, I am going to make a list of what's worrying me.....after I get back from town

cyteen · 14/07/2008 10:32

Welcome CC, pull up a comfy chair and help yourself to a large glass of wine/sushi platter/unpasteurised cheese + biscuits/your verboten treat of choice Making a list sounds good, anything that stops worries rattling around in the mind is useful IMO as they always seem so much smaller and more manageable once they're out.

I found myself contemplating a homebirth this morning...thinking through what the mw at the birth centre told us, in some ways it would make a lot of sense. I know I'm being influenced by my NCT friend who had her baby on Saturday - she had a homebirth planned - so I will get her birth story next time I speak to her, and see how it panned out. She's already generously offered the use of her birth pool and TENS machine (not together, obviously!) if I do decide to go for it...decisions, decisions.

At least it would mean less hospital bag packing. Despite having most of the necessary stuff, I've done nothing with it.

CaptainCaveman · 14/07/2008 10:45

On the plus side - babies car seat is now back together - just need to show dh how to fit it into the car! Also, I have created a thread in childbirth, asking for advice on birthplans for planned CS's/. Suddenly feeling very unprepared!!

cyteen · 14/07/2008 10:49

Oh, I've just remembered my very least favourite things about pregnancy - constant fecking heartburn! Every single day these days, everything I eat, ten minutes later AAAAARRRRGH BOLLOCKS ACID BURNING MY THROAT OW MY CHEST IS ON FIRE

ChaCha · 14/07/2008 11:08

Can i please join that corner too.
I have been trying, i really have but unloading the washing machine is now becoming an absolute mission and my poor DC are having to deal with my awful mood. Can't bloody walk/move without pain and i just want to get on.
Cyteen - I totally know what you mean, just want to be normal again.
CC - Will have a look at your thread, don't panic though, and we are all here. I am resigning myself to the fact that today is a write off and have asked poor DH to come home earlier than 8 tonight.

See my best intentions....fizzled out in a flash.

cyteen · 14/07/2008 11:10
VintageGardenia · 14/07/2008 11:18

cyteen and CC sorry you feel so wobbly. The list thing is a good idea, wasn't pf advocating this a few days ago? Writing things down and trying to look at them rationally might make them more manageable? The other thing is that stuff like heartburn, egg shapes, etc, will disappear, or start to disappear, immediately after birth. And we will be holding our babies then so everything else will quickly seem irrelevant. (Weak attempt at positive thinking for you!)

ChaCha me too on the washing machine, crouching (feels like baby about to drop out and onto floor) or bending (feels like back about to crumble) is horrible. Is there a possibility in the UK of a temporary home help if spd is debilitating?

Guess what, a girl at work with the same due date as me had a baby girl yesterday .

poppysocks · 14/07/2008 11:20

V. excited to hear that we may have our first August (in theory!) baby! Who will be first....?

Could I join the corner of grump? I have no reason at all. I'm not suffering in anything like the way that many of you are and I'm not even that fed up of being pg. My Mum arrives tomorrow, so nice to see her and then she's looking after DD for a night so DH can take me away to a gorgeous hotel for some pampering. What is wrong with me?!?!

I think sleep deprivation has something to do with it, but if I feel like this now, it does not bode well...

After a busy day on Saturday (finally got DD's stuff out of the roof and sorted it for this LO), did absolutely nothing yesterday as felt totally shattered. Upshot was that at 4am I was still wide awake.

After a huge drop in the bump last week, it seems to have moved up again. Is this possible? Part of the sleep problem is that the breathing issues have returned, coinciding with the bump moving back upwards. I'm in the heartburn/indigestion club too...

VintageGardenia · 14/07/2008 11:22

I have a horrible breathing thing too where I have started to make pig noises when lying down.

Feel terrible for DP-related snoring comments now.

Am gross.

cyteen · 14/07/2008 11:22

ALL are welcome in the grumpy corner

VintageGardenia · 14/07/2008 11:28

Figleaves have 70 per cent off including some Elle McPherson nursing gear (she and I have such similar figures, something is bound to suit...)

sarahnh · 14/07/2008 11:41

ooh i'll join in the cocktails!!!! knee deep in baby clothes, realised i have tons of 0-3, 3-6 and 6-9 but very little newbprn which means i will have to do some shopping ...

getting really bad pains low down still, the must just be bh's but man they are painful.. considering i had three false alarms with dd i am not even going to think about it unless i get a show or waters breaking!!!

Sorry to hear those that are feeling down, sending you big hugs and more cocktails xxxx

cyteen · 14/07/2008 11:45

I believe somewhere up there above all the moaning I've sparked off, someone mentioned this being a day to say nice things about our partners? How's this to start with: the other day we were watching Celebrity Masterchef while eating some pizza I'd made for tea, and out of the blue DP says "They should make a combination reality show just for you so that the world can see your talents - it would have to be a mixture of Masterchef, Next Top Model and Britain's Got Talent". What a sweetheart

VintageGardenia · 14/07/2008 12:41

Awww cyteen you've got a star there!

Here's my sugary moment, from the other day:

Me: Don't be nervous about the labour, it will all be absolutely fine and the baby will be fine and before you know it we'll be home with the baby.
DP: It's you I'm worried about, I can't stand the thought of you being in pain.

It's funny, because (I think) I have reached the point where I am fine about the labour, I know it will be absolute agony etc but I also know I am very robust physically and I trust my body to be ready. I would prefer to to be the one giving birth than the one watching.

(Ask me about this in 3 weeks' time, though )

bealcain · 14/07/2008 13:04

{{{clambers over all of you in search of dregs of aforementioned cocktails}}}

please can i join corner of moodiness.

got 3hours sleep, for no particular reason other than i couldn't sleep. got an hour in with the boys just now but my list of things to do is endless, none of us are dressed and i haven't actually done anything.

DH didn't get the job he went for so time to start job hunting for him, so he can be closer to home.

on the postive DH thing, he did the sweetest thing ever yesterday, we're both tatoo mad, he has far more than me and now one extra.......he went and got my name tatooed on him, not just my name but a huge heart, gerbera (my fav flower) and wedding rings. Also, some lyrics from our song.....he always insisted he'd never get it done 9even though i've got his) but it was so sweet. he's paying for it today though as it's on his, (same place as mine) and half way up his shin, but he's wearing socks and steel capped shoes....poor thing!!

can i also request a large whisky??

TwilightSurfer · 14/07/2008 13:44

Does anyone have any vodka? Would be nice added to my orange juice.... {{twilight takes the liberty of pulling up a chair in the grumpy corner}} I've hated being pregnant for a few weeks now for too many reasons to count!!

VG, you caught me. My BF attitude is bad. Last time my milk just took FOREVER then I got all clogged up (remember I didn't have proper support). I'm not one to "want" to leak but hearing everyone else is just makes me think I'm heading down the same road as before. Honestly though I don't care this time. If BF works, I'll do it. If BF doesn't work, I won't. My child will be perfectly fine either way!!

I spent last night sleeping in an odd position to give the baby head room. Reclined on a million pillows, I had my feet together close to my bottom with my knees opened out away from my body (made a little diamond) so my hips could open up. I just keep getting this thought that the baby's head is squished down there. I'm sure it's just my overly anxious mind but I feel more comfortable today, like the baby's finally in the perfect spot (for both of us).

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 14/07/2008 14:01

TS Trying to imagine that slepeing position. . I don't have spd (just random achey and sore hips and back) and I know I couldn't sleep with my legs like that - the spd ladies must be cringing at the thought of doing that with their legs .

cavey good ides with writing a list. I ought to do that too - I know I feel shite but I'm not sure quite why (so many things whizzing around my barin but no time to catch them)

Cyteen - aw that's a nice comment from your dp. And VG too.

met my friend earlier. She was very useful - she had a planned section at the same hosp as me, in Nov. She relieved a few of my silly fears (i was worried about the catheter going on - she assures me it's done after the epidural). her dd2 is 8 months and v cute - but she has had feeding issies with both her girls- they both sem to have/have had some kind of reflux issues which maks feeding very very awkward, and makes a very stressed out sad mum. She said her and her dh always thought they'd have 3 childen, but having had a second child with these feeding issues, she's not sure she could go through it all again

I've got to take dd to her swimming lesson later. Normally dh does it (Mon was my work eve) but a) he had a meeting in town today so I told him not to rush back (It;s also his day off so the man deserves some time alone), and b) dd had said she wanted me to take her again - she wanted to go in the ladies changing rooms for a change lol. It'll be so hot and smelly in the whole pool complex ......

chacha poor old you with washing machine etc. I need to dig aorund in cupboard under sink as I just got out the last washing up sponge i could find without sticking my head in there/getting on the ground. So I need dh to have a root around later before I put them on the shopping list and find 5 more packs hidden away next week lol. SO did you decide to send the dcs to your mum for a bit of a break?! When do yu go?

PetitFilou1 · 14/07/2008 14:04

Pours TS large measure of Smirnoff...and looks around for some Pimms and lemonade ...or a G&T

Buckets You are scaring me with your tats and your whisky drinking - would I have to walk past you very quickly if I met you in the dark?

Btw TS I never leak beforehand but have (luckily for me) never had any problems at all b/f. My milk takes roughly 5 days to come in but after that I seem to have plenty. My two slept an awful lot to start with and I think I could have woken them up to feed a bit more often and it might have come in a bit quicker. But I'm afraid I was happy with them sleeping...

I will also join you in the grumpy corner. Feel sick again today and have a headache. Can you believe the mw rang back TODAY after I left a message on Friday saying I wanted to talk to someone. What use is that?!

PetitFilou1 · 14/07/2008 14:05

Sorry I meant Bealcain not Buckets!!
