Cha Cha, I put mine off as BH but nurse and doc told me differently. They did explain they would get more painful. I remember the painful ones that had me climbing out of the bed when pregnant with DD. I'd declince an epidural about three hours prior. Once they started I pressed my nice little "call button", when the nurse came on the speaker I was like, "i'm ready to discuss this epidural thing now." She walked into my room with a HUGE smile on her face...she never said "i told you" but I could tell what she was thinking AND SHE WAS RIGHT!! PRAISE GOD FOR EPIDURALS!!!!!

MIL just called (after two emails already this morning). She's ready to drive up this second. I asked her to wait till I gather everyone's schedules so we don't have overlap. She was like, "this is so strange. you never ask for help." I guess she's right but I've never gone without so....

Very impressed with all the perfume chatter. I'm still a little touchy where smells are concerned. I'm a big fan of grapefruit scented things so that one sounds lovely.

VG nice buggy choice. That's just another item that seems seriously overpriced overall. Makes me feel bad for first-timers who aren't sure which one would be best for them.

Here's some midwifery views on pre-labour waters rupturing for Sibh, Bealcain and anyone that's interested.

Think we may have finally come up with a full name for our little one! Kurt Benedict Barnes (DH has been rolling it around his tongue with a little smile on his face, esp as I pointed out it sounds like Dirk Benedict LOL.)

Does anyone know anything about kids' ear aches/infections? DD had lots of reddy brown goo in her ear today, said it ached in the night and swears she didn't poke it (but might have done in her sleep I guess.) Not one of us has ever had an ear problem before so I'm a bit flummoxed. Any advice?

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 19:21

Hellooooo All from a very SUNNY Bath (not in the bath) lovely lunch out at fab pizza place then next door for even better ice cream. Saw my folks for the last time before they go back to South Africa until September. I know it's only 6 weeks but my mum realy wants this baby to wait! Still contracting every 10-15 mins but not really feeling them all, occasionally I yelp but otherwise nada. Seeing midwife on Wednesday so will see what she says, she is generally useless so expecting a take two paracetamol and rest comment (yet AGAIN).

TS please to still see you here - was thinking about you during lunch wondering how things were going.

Belcain How are you still here????

VG I can't do perfumes at all poor DH can't buy anthing for himself or me without prior approval. The urban detour range is Fab used one for last little one at work he loved it. Unfortunately a little big for my tiny car boot.

Everyone else -

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 19:22

That should read:

Everyone else - Hope you had good weekends.

Pressed button during tightening

PetitFilou1 · 13/07/2008 20:18

Chacha Shame TS is almost giving birth, Jo Malone is MUCH cheaper in the US (which is ridiculous seeing as she is British but there you go...) dh usually gets some when he goes. Might be worth your dh checking out ebay though. Be careful though as people do sell the samples on there as well - you'd need to check the size And...also wanted to say sorry for explanation of engagement the other day when clearly you know that already, I can't keep up with who has dcs already and who doesn't!

Finally finished the nursery today, except for a rug. I feel relief that we're ready, although ds2 won't sleep in there for some time I suspect if he's anything like his brother or sister...

I think I'd better pack a bag too in case what with all these pre-term nearly labours. Can't believe how calm you all are.

Buckets Think you should take dd to the GP. Sounds suspiciously like a burst eardrum to me -she'd need antibiotics if that is what it is is as due to an infection. It sounds worse than it is but easily treated.

Buckets · 13/07/2008 20:37

Okedoke, will see how she is in the morning thanks. Having looked it up on NHS Direct, seems giving her a bath & hairwash to soften up the goo prior to wiping was not a recommended course of action.

I've just had a brainwave and added another item to my hospital bag - my new inflatable breastfeeding pillow (Ebay bargain.) Should give DH something to do in the hospital.

CC - glad you've had a better day today.

CaptainCaveman · 13/07/2008 20:58

Your poor dd buckets, sore ears are very painful things (or they can be).

Thanks for your well wishes ladies, you really are a jolly nice bunch

Now then, who was it got a digital camera for their mat leave prezzie? sazzles and I will be round to duff you up shortly seeing as we never got a bean from our mean colleagues

TS at your contracting - does this mean my birth is imminent in keeping with my trans-atlantic-twin? . Thought I heard a pop earlier and braced myself for a warm wet feeling but thankfully that didn't happen. Need to put the car seat back together now I've washed all the various bits of it (dh would NEVER manage to figure it out!).

Jerry currently has hiccups, awww bless.

Hope she's okay Buckets, let us know. Inflatable pillow - what a fab idea!!!

PF - No need for apologies, my brain is like a sieve and I'm sure if i went onto having a dozen more children i'd still be asking the same ignorant questions! Ahhh..congrats on completion of nursery, lovely.

The need for sleep has hit me v.badly, have this tingling in my feet and cannot honestly move around very well without being in pain, frustrating as there is a lot i want to do but just can't. Have been doing the grocery shop in drips and drabs and now finding the online shop sooooooo boring and cannot make any decisions as am not organised with menu plan, shame because i usually love to cook.

Well tomorrow marks what i hope will be 21days till countdown - I am assured they will pass quickly.

Breastpads - almost forgot those!!

CaptainCaveman · 13/07/2008 21:09

I think ds might have tonsillitis - although he isn't unwell with it. I only spotted it because as we were playing yesterday he opened his mouth really wide to 'play bite' my cheek (on my face, of course!) and I saw this red throat. His right tonsil is huge, and today his throat is redder but I really don't think it is bothering him. Slight temp of 37.5 but he is his usual self. I'm not planning on doing anything unless he starts complaining of a sore throat or becomes unwell.

ChaCha · 13/07/2008 21:10

Hi CC, Hi Sazzles - like both names, Poppie Louise is lovely.

DS's are pouring the bath water over floor and giggling like crazy while DH does very good impression of Mutley (whacky races) - trying not to laugh myself...

x

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 21:10

Sazzles - I am biased as we are having a Poppy (she's actually going to be Poppaea but we'll call her Poppy)

CaptainCaveman · 13/07/2008 21:25

and sazzles I'm biased by Emma as it is my name! Both lovely though, I love Poppy too

Hi ChaCha and oops

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 21:50

Hi CC If your LO had tonsillitis they probably won't do anything about it, was recently told by our GP that if kids fight it off they end up less antibiotic resistant You can usually tell if it is tonsillitis by the smell of his breath, a bit like rotting meat.

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 21:52

Sorry to be so graphic but I am a tonsillitis pro - 1 dose every 3 weeks for 2 years before they took them out - aged 28 - you can just imagine my sick day count!

bealcain · 13/07/2008 21:57

evening all,

a lovely bbq here earlier, still plenty left if any takers? followed by ben and jerry's cookie dough. sorry none of that left

I really like poppy louise.

VG i feel as if i've been in labour for ages aswell!!

just really achy down below today and am very swollen, if you know what i mean

Also, TS OOPS when you;ve been contracting have your boobs been leaking too?? i swear i could catch about a pint every half hour from each one, they're going great guns, saturating my breast pads. Must have something to do with finishing bfing only a few months ago???

Have to say on the perfume front, i'm a boring over the counter Ralph lauren girl.

Buckets definately tale her to dr's ears are funnuy things, and the earlier you catch it the less pain and stress for dd.

oopsacoconut · 13/07/2008 21:59

Bealcain just the occasional squirty bit but not alot realy - it freaks DH out though

Sibh · 13/07/2008 22:37

Buckets--thanks so much for the link on waters breaking. I'd tried googling but not found anything that useful. I hope DD feels better soon ...

VG -- mentioning the music to the midwife was of course a silly idea. I should have remembered the basic rule, 'Whatever you say, say nothing.' The buggy sounds very stylish by the way ...

And CC, I was a bit unhappy to discover you have a different name in real life. I've always imagined your DH having to shout 'Captain 'Caaaaaveman' every time he needs to get your attention.

(Ducking to avoid thread's breast milk spray).

TwilightSurfer · 14/07/2008 00:40

Captain, I disconnected our connection so you wouldn't be plagued with all this pain. I figured you've had enough trouble thus far.

Bealcain, I personally think I have milk issues to begin with....to answer your question though, no to leaking but they are sticking out like very hard arrows and hurt if I bump them on anything.

Dropped at least another inch. The way this is going by tomorrow I will be round from rib cage to tinkle exit. Makes wearing shorts a laugh. Thank goodness I bought a lot of bathing suit cover up dresses.

Rained all day here which was so nice. We needed it. Kept us inside where DH helped me straighten up the house and put away laundry. It's not perfect but I think it will do nicely for now.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 14/07/2008 02:23

Sazzles, both names are perfect. Over here Poppy is not used as often as Emma which is VERY common (actually it's my nieces name.)

Oops thanks for thinking about me over lunch. I'm hanging in here. Noticed my ankles are beginning to disappear which happened just days before DD was born. How you holding up?

I have to share something DH said to me this evening. He looked over and said, "you're being a trooper about all this." I was like, "about what, dinner...it's greasy spoon take out." He said, "no, this pregnancy." He really wanted a second child and I really didn't at first. Now he's about to get one because {{{drum roll}}} I'm the most incredible wife on the planet!! BUT THIS IS IT!!

OP posts:
miamla · 14/07/2008 07:23

morning ladies
soooooooo...do we have a baby yet?????

I had a lie-in this morning...i slept til 6am! the last few mornings it has been 4am so i'm feeling rather refreshed!

DP not well but he has still been a trooper and we've pretty much finished doing the main painting in Pip's room so today i get to attack the walls with green and yellow! i can't wait! I'd be doing it now if we'd bought the paint already.

my mum was so lovely yesterday. she phoned to say she'd finished something for Pip and would i like it. silly question! never one to turn down a pressie! and i asked her if she'd mind picking up some milk on her way round (neither DP nor I have felt like shopping the last few days). She could barely fit through the front door with all the bags she had! so lots of lovely food later and we were both feeling alot better. As for the pressies, she's knitted a jumper, hat and booties in orange and brown. Really lovely and for added bonus blackmail material for when Pip's older, the hat and jumper both have cat/lion (we're not sure!) pictures on them. the hat's even got ears that stick up! so so sweet

had quite a bizarre moment on saturday..its my cousin's wedding in October and we need to book a hotel room for it. So, i phoned, booked a double and as a passing thought at the end of it all thought i'd better mention we were bringing baby with us but that we didn't need anything because we'd be bringing our own cot. "oh in that case i'll have to book you a different room!" I asked why a baby changed things, were the doubles different sizes? erm no, apparently for health and safety reasons you're only allowed an extra person in some of the doubles but not all of them, even if its a baby. Bizzarre! Anyone any idea why? she couldn't explain more than it being against h&e! I then asked if it was possible to book in any earlier than their standard 2pm and a blunt no was the reply. normally it would but because we're going for a wedding its a no! (if she say yes to us she'll have to say yes to all of our group, so this makes sense). so i asked if there would be anywhere to change/feed the baby. apparently there's a table in the ladies toilet for changing and she asked if i'd be breastfeeding. when i replied yes she said she'd try and get our room ready early for us!! my first experience of bf not being the "done thing" in public! well if they think i'm running off to my room every time Pip needs feeding, they've got another think coming! I will be discrete (i'm hoping to be able to do it with him in a sling by then) but blimey, thought we'd moved on a few centuries!

oh, and anyone following my cradle saga (we were hoping Pip could sleep in the same one i did when i was a child). I've discovered that the gaps between the bars are wider than the current safety standards. i really don't want to risk him getting a limb caught or something. just need to work out how i'm going to tell my mum now!

hope you all have lovely days planned especially to those who are still truddling into work and of course to those who are in the throes of having a baby!

sarahnh · 14/07/2008 08:08

Morning Ladies,

Oooo how exciting two potential babies on the way!!!!

Well we finally managed to clear out the loft yesterday so today i have a whole heap of sorting and washing of little baby clothes.. very excited ( how sad am i)....

Tummy not so itchy today so fingers crossed it was just an odd day.. getting loads of cramps in my lower tummy but have told baby that she cannot come quite yet because we are not ready for her, she has nothing to sleep in, no clean clothes and the house needs a massive declutter!!!!

pregnancy1 · 14/07/2008 08:17

Morning,
Well, I've just had my first commute for a few days. Am lucky enough to always get a seat at the mo, but it's always amusing when I waddle onto the tube and everyone looks down hoping someone else will offer theirs first. Within about half a stop a nice business man always stands up - interestingly, never someone in a priority seat.... Am at my desk recovering with a decaff latte and a pain au chocolat .

Oooh - good luck telling your mum Miamla. At least you discovered this before you spent ages sanding it down. You can get a decent moses basket for not too much money (have seen some on sale - will try to remember where if you are interested).

I did 7 washes over the weekend and made a batch of brownies and another of cookies. Have tonnes left over (despite giving a load to my parents) - anyone? Obviously didn't pack my hospital bag , but I did make a list....

Hope everyone has fab days and that any potential births go smoothly
