Oh sarahnh I never know what to say when people post like this because I haven't a clue but it does sound quite authentic... The difference is meant to be in regularity - i.e. labour pains come on a regular cycle rather than in spurts like BH, but you know that anyway. Can you give your MW a call and describe? If is pain for a different reason the MW needs to know anyway, so that's what I would do.

cyteen good work, Batgirl.

TS you are not progressing in any way?

VintageGardenia · 16/07/2008 13:15

x post TS

Buckets · 16/07/2008 13:16

Cyteen, re the intimacy with DP, try and find something face to face (ie not tv or cinema) you can do together. Go for sunset walks (while you still can) and meals out at places with nice views. We have a laugh (more so when I can drink) playing cards, lately going through old guitar tab printouts and strumming/singing and we're lucky enough to have a double-ended bath which kind of forces the intimacy LOL but gets you talking and remembering what you like about each other.
On the physical side, send him a text challenging him to give you an orgasm tonight. Make it clear you are not going to do anything other than lie there and be adored. Then you can both spend all day thinking about it

TwilightSurfer · 16/07/2008 13:18

oh forgot to say...still contracting, not painfully and nothing with a good solid rhythm but nonetheless all day long. After much consideration, I'm very happy that I'm contracting in this way. It's obviously doing the cervix prepwork but without the unbearable pain.

DS was asleep in the car but I managed to carry him in house to sofa.

Think I have SPD - very painful hips, groin etc which is worse by the end of the day. Never had it before. Have seen Buckets thread about getting it in subsequent pregnancies and think I have. Not seeing m/w or anyone now until 5 days before c/s due on 4 August but they probably couldn't do anything anyway - just tell me to rest - with three other children, two of which are about to break up from school and are in their manic couple of weeks! Not much hope there then.

Probably have to carry DS back to car asleep for school run but it was in the sun and it is very sunny and hot here again today (even though the weather forecast said it wouldnt' be!)

PetitFilou1 · 16/07/2008 14:34

TS Be warned that if your cervix is gradually dilating like this - when the time comes it will be FAST (this is what happened to me last time )

PetitFilou1 · 16/07/2008 14:39

Sarah I've had the knitting needle pains too but just assumed it was ds2 walloping me in the cervix with his feet (as I think he is the wrong way up) I wouldn't worry too much - yet - but your body is probably giving you a heads up that you are nearly there. Do you feel ready?!

pf... i am totally not ready and in denial at the moment.. haven't packed my bag yet and dh keeps telling me too... interestingly i have pains come and go every 15mins for the last hour.. well that only 4 in the last hour but you never know.... hoping that she is just wriggling further into place!!!xx

CaptainCaveman · 16/07/2008 15:31

Another job done to tick off the list - nursing bras bought . I do love a little trip into bravissimo....and thanks for the hat reminder for baby's bag, 2 hats now insitu. I also spoiled myself with some new mascara . Ah, what a lovely day. Better get on with some chores before dh comes in and thinks I've been sat on my ass all day!!

bealcain · 16/07/2008 16:34

TS was thinknig before i finished readin all the posts that perhaps it will be wuick this time for you. with ds2 i was in labour every 10ten days untill he finally came out late! but i went from 5cm to birth in 15mins!!

dizzy yes please, can you send that in the post? or in fact maybe if it;s not too much bother can me and the boys come and live with you? you always cook such lovely stuff and i can;t even mash...unless it;s rustic!!

had mw this afternoon, head is now 2/5 palpaple, so she's definately heading in the right direction, really raised blood pressure and +++portein, so looking good for induction next week . she felt some of my contractions and said 'my you're fight, they ar strong!' well duh! i wouldn't be moaning like a cow if they didn't!!

IlanaK · 16/07/2008 16:50

Anyone else beginning to panic about actually having a new baby around? I know this is my third, but suddennly I feel like i am not ready. And since I only have 5 days left, that is a bit of a problem!

I am obviously desperate to get this baby out of me as I am in so much pain and discomfort, but I feel like I haven't focused on what it will be like after iykwim? My boys are really excited and counting down the days. My 4 year old rediscovered a dolly ring sling we have and was wearing a doll in it today. Very cute!

But I am just sitting here thinking "oh my god, everything is going to change!" With a 4 year old and 7 year old, things are really settled. They are very independent. And even though I home school so they are with me all the time, life is not too hard. Suddennly I am thinking of nappies, feeding, lack of freedom etc!

I am sure this is just normal last minute jitters right???

TwilightSurfer · 16/07/2008 17:10

IlanaK, I can honestly say I'm not worried in the slightest about new addition. Bizzare, huh? I figure I'll just add her to the crazy mix...I'm a sink or swim kinda person anyway.

Bealcain & PF, I pretty sure you both are dead on about the short labor due to all the contractions leading up to it. I went back over my labor notes from last time this morning. I feel like the more I educate myself with my past history the better I'll do. Seems the REAL hard core contraction pain for me began at the 4cm mark. That gives me a reference point for my tolerance. Just on edge about my waters breaking in .5cm time (at 2cm) like it did last time. I don't want to be out and about with DD when that happens. YUK!!

Sazzles, {{hugs}} use a few baby wipes to bath DD and give her peanut butter crackers for dinner. Do an "early to bed" thing. Then put your fit up...job well done. She won't know the difference.

Ah bllcks, DH is back to the plan of handing his notice in on 1st August . Trying to be kind but it's so hard!

PetitFilou1 · 16/07/2008 17:58

Ilana You home school them? Pf bows very low in admiration. Mine are in nursery 3/4 of the time and I still find it hard! I understand the feeling of going back to the beginning though. I will have one in school this year, one next and then three years until this one goes to school!

PetitFilou1 · 16/07/2008 18:00

I am however looking forward to that little being 'beaning' on your shoulder, the bobbly head and the tininess (even though mine aren't that tiny when they are born!) of a newborn. And I am really not a baby person!

pregnancy1 · 16/07/2008 18:11

Okay, I'm jinxed today. Second time I've written a big long post and my 3G card has crashed when I've pressed send.....

Ha - it's just happened a second time, but I learnt my lesson and typed it in notepad first. Ah, I feel v smug (that's wrong isn't it?)

Anyway, I'm not even sure how useful this is given that I'm sure everyone is ahead of me, but the midwife who gave our class this afternoon handed out a suggested list of stuff for your hospital bag. Most of it is common sense, but there are a couple of good things on it. Maybe it'll motivate anyone like me, who hasn't quite got round to packing it yet....

Labour:

  • maternity notes
  • loose fitting nightie/night shirt/long t-shirt to give birth in (with a warning it may get stained!)
  • washbag with all the usual toiletries
  • disposable or old knickers
  • plenty of maternity pads
  • slippers
  • thick socks (apparently feet get cold towards the end of the 1st stage, but I'm not convinced given our hospital is always roasting!)
  • battery operated cd player/radio/ipod
  • tends machine & spare battery
  • oil for massaging back/shoulders/legs etc (baby oil or unscented base oil only)
  • fine water spray
  • light easily digestable snacks
  • list of phone numbers, fully-charged mobile or change for pay phone
  • change for car park
  • camera & spare batteries
  • magazines/books/cards etc to help pass the time
  • rubber/hard ball for DP (to use on your back instead of the ball of his hand and stop the poor thing getting a sore wrist!)
  • lip balm (apparently gas & air dries out your lips)

After

  • loose comfortable nightie/clothes
  • maternity pads & old knickers
  • comfortable feeding bras & breast pads
  • clothes for baby, at least 3 changes (babygrows, vests, cardie, mitts, hat)
  • plenty of nappies, cotton wool & olive oil (in case baby has dry skin)

If nothing else, maybe typing this will give me the kick up the @rse I need......

IlanaK am right there with you on the wobbles unless baby comes on its own I'll be sitting in two wks with new baby and new scar to match

buckets sorry about the job dilema for your DH - never plain sailing is it?

pregnancy1 great list but from mine (which isn't packed by ANY means) can I suggest

arnica tablets
handheld fan
antibac wipes
face wipes
pillow

went for a long walk and took kids to park this afternoon which was lovely - my feet are amazingly not as swollen at the moment although I can feel them going up as am sitting here

TwilightSurfer · 16/07/2008 19:22

Dizzy I think my feet know how to tell time because they tend to start swelling now about 5pm. Sounds like you had an enjoyable day. Cheers!!

Sazzles you are such a smart lady utilizing pool time shower for DD. Your food prep sounds lovely, I'm sure it will all go over amazingly well.

Pregnancy1 I still can't believe all the stuff you guys have to take with you. Do they have a valet with a luggage rack at the front door. GEEZ!!

Had a few painful (close to painful) contractions earlier. They passed as quick as the came but left me thinking I'm not going to like the next stage when it hits. Baby's finally up now trying to find a little room. Obviously she didn't get the memo about limited space in the last days.
