I am feeling rotten this morning . Woke up in the nigh to find I was bleeding a bit and have had some more this morning. It is lighter red blood , but I am not in any pain, so am trying to remain optimistic, but also realistic that things might be going wrong for me. I was 15 weeks yesterday.

It's a bit of a shock to be honest; I am lucky to have had 3 trouble free pregnancies and I stupidly assumed this one would be the same.

It's typically the weekend, so I can't really do anyting about it anyway. I am just going to sit still today and wait and see what happens.

Any advice very welcome .

rosieposey · 02/08/2008 12:01

Laidback No pain is good - have you phoned your midwife at all for advice? As im sure you know bleeding is not uncommon in pregnancy and the fact that you are this far along and have felt the baby moving ect ect is a really good sign.

I really would seek advice today even if it is from Casualty as they will refer you onto the ante natal people (they work at the weekends) - it could be anything and nothing but for your own sake and sanity i would try and speak to someone. - keeping everything crossed for you xx

LittleMissNorty · 02/08/2008 13:04

Laidback - I'm told ANY bleeding to contact labour ward out of hours......hope all is ok x

laidbackinengland · 02/08/2008 13:11

Thanks for your advice... it's kind of tailed off now which is good. I will try and work out who to phone this afternoon.

LittleMissNorty · 02/08/2008 14:34

there will be a midwife on call - our local labour ward sorts that out! Glad its tailed off....

Feeling really knackered today as I've been up weeing all night!!

Been browsing.....do you think I should get one of these and one of these?

PinkTulips · 02/08/2008 15:31

you should be able to just walk into the maternity unit and they'll treat you there and then.

try no to panic, not all bleeding is bad, and the fact you're quite far along is good. hope you get some reassurance soon

markstretch, nope she didn't say as i'd said on the phone i didn't want to know and unfortuantely when i decided in the car on the way home that i kinda did after all it turned out all in 10 of the pics she took you can't tell! will think about whether i really want to know and maybe ask at next scan. i love the surprise but i'm starting to think it might make it easier for ds to deal with if we could tell him he's having a baby brother or sister as opposed to just 'a baby'.

i just say he as i hate 'it' and he is shorter to type than she or baba

MarkStretch · 02/08/2008 16:05

Yeah I keep using he too as I don't like using 'it'.

Newsflash- I didn't get up for a wee last night! For the first time in weeks! Am 13 weeks now- does this mean he's moved up a bit?!

DD got up when DH went to work at 5.45 this morning so she is knackered today and fell over on the way to the shop and took the skin off her knees. Cue much wailing and crying and general dragging herself around the house. I tried to make it better by telling her having a baby hurts 400 million times more than scraping your knee but she didn't seem to care.

onwardandupward · 02/08/2008 16:15

LOL Markstretch, I bet that gambit for cheering your daughter up went down a storm!

I'm still up and down in the night several times deep sigh

Why DO we have "morning" sickness? Does anyone know? Seems a bloody stupid evolutionary adaptation to me. And why is it called "morning" when it patently hits at all sorts of times of day? hmmm? hmmm?

PinkTulips · 02/08/2008 16:35

well it was half nine at night sickness last night in my case

i woke up at 5.30 this morning with my heart pounding like mad for no apparent rason... wasn't a dream that caused it as i remembered what was happening in my dream right before... i actually woke up because of my heart thumping.... freaked me out a little.

and then i got mightily pissed off as i didcovered dp wasn't in bed yet despite the fact tat he was supposed to be giving me a lie in this morning. twat was still up with his mate working on a track... grrr. guess who got up with the kids then?

hope she's feeling a bit better now markstretch, i tend to get frustrated with dd's caterwauling when she's hurt too tbh.... ds tends to pick himself up and get on with things unless it's very bad whereas she only has to ge the slightest scratch and she's wailing as if she's being murdered..... i'm not the most patient with it tbh

MarkStretch · 02/08/2008 16:45

Isn't it an increase in oestrogen? Although I did read somewhere that it is a way of purifying your body ready to grow the baby...

Does this mean those of us who didn't get it are obviously as pure as the driven snow with temple like bodies? Preen...

PinkTulips · 02/08/2008 17:03

the theory is sound in my case unfortunately

Gina80 · 02/08/2008 17:04

I guess I have a mini temple then as I only had nausea and wasnt actually sick

Glad everything went well at both of your scans PT & O&U

Definately ring someone laidback. I called my out of hours surgery, they took all the details and within 10mins the right dept at the hosp rang me back, I was seen and scanned within an hour. I didnt ring the labour ward as I had a leaflet that said only after 20 weeks but no number or advice for what to do under 20wks. Very helpful . Hope everything is well and you get good news.

onwardandupward · 02/08/2008 17:22

pelts Markstretch from a safe distance

Babycentre.co.uk says

"The cause of pregnancy sickness is unknown, but it is thought to be connected to the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG). This is produced in large quantities until your placenta takes over the job of maintaining and nourishing your baby at around 12 to 14 weeks. Other hormones such as oestrogen and the thyroid hormone thyroxine are also thought to be responsible."

I thought it was to do with the placenta.

So basically, to start with the placenta is inadequate and Not Fit For It's Purpose (yeah, yeah, I know it's growing from the tiny bundle of cells like everything else) and it takes it the first 3 months to get itself large enough and efficient enough to look after the baby. Until then, the foetus's low blood sugar is our low blood sugar.

Not happy about the "around 12 to 14 weeks" bit. Come on come on come on!!! (has anyone stopped feeling sick yet?)

onwardandupward · 02/08/2008 17:22

Its. Dammit.

nkweto · 02/08/2008 20:03

My nausea is starting to go, as is the crazy exhaustion/tiredness thank goodness... I still need to pee hourly though..I thought that stopped early on before returning in late pregnancy ??

laidback... I hope everything is ok with you.

dinkystinky · 02/08/2008 21:37

Laidback - hope all is ok with you; please let us know how you get on when you speak to midwife/labour ward. If it helps any, I know plenty of women who had unexplained bleeds through pregnancy (before or after having textbook pregnancies) who went on to have healthy babies so hopefully its just one of those unknown cause bleeds going on. Will be thinking of you.

Markstretch - I didnt have any morning sickness either (didnt with DS either). Did suffer with zits that made me look like a fifteen year old working in kfc type joint and bone crushing tiredness though for both pregnancies(though thankfully zits now mostly zapped and tiredness lifting at long last). Oh and count yourself lucky with your dd only waking at 5.30 the other day - I get woken at 5.30 (or earlier) most days by my DS (who I then steadfastly ignore, while awake, until at least 6 as I refuse to start my day before then)

MarkStretch · 03/08/2008 07:46

I have loads of spots

herbgarden · 03/08/2008 10:06

Laidback hope you're ok....

I think my ms (well nausea - I've never actually been sick) is lifting and I definitely have more energy than a few weeks ago as I feel more motivated to actually do stuff.

My ds is going through a before 6 phase at the moment- he yells out "mummy" every 5 mins or so -once the yelling gets more cross more like "MUMMMMMY!!!" and then we also get "MILKIES" !!! I eventually get up and go - like you dinky stinky I hate to start my day earlier than 6.....he's actually ok lying there sucking his thumb and will occasionally doze off again- bad bad mother ...

Jelliebaby · 03/08/2008 11:50

Markstretch - I too have a chin FULL of spots, most annoying.

Onwards - I am still feeling very sick too. I am just over 12 weeks and desperate for the sickness and spots to go away...

mslucy · 03/08/2008 12:09

I've not been sick either - though I do retch a lot, esp when confronted with a potty containing a large poo.

Cigarettes are also a bit of a trigger.

Have had a lot of headaches and very tired in first few weeks.

My main problem has been indigestion and trapped wind.

Wee constantly, but then I do anyway, though maybe not quite as much at night as I am at the moment.

Gina80 · 03/08/2008 13:56

Me last night:-

DS Cries, Pee, go settle him, pee, back to bed.

Hour later need to pee, ignore it, fall asleep and dream that I am running round like a mad thing trying to find a toilet and there isn't one on the entire planet.

Get up, pee, disturb DS, pee, back to bed....

Repeat as you see fit

Arrrrgghhhh!!!!

onwardandupward · 03/08/2008 14:13

You have STOLEN MY LIFE, Gina80... (except that I never ever ignore the need to pee)

Gina80 · 03/08/2008 17:53

well I wont be doing in future - I dread to think what would have happened if I had actually found a toilet in the dream and 'gone'

I have to write a letter to my boss tonight to tell them that I am going back full time (I am P/T on a reduced hours scheme so can cancel it at any time with 28 days notice) and that I'm pg. I am really dreading it as they were really awful to me last time because of pg so much so that I went to the Union over it. I've only been back 3 months so I can imagine that they wont be too pleased and will most likely make my life hell again

oooggs · 03/08/2008 19:45

thinking of you laidback - keep in touch and let us know what advice they give - when you eventually get in contact with someone

PinkTulips · 03/08/2008 20:06

tis crap about it being hcg.... i had no hcg at all with dd and was violently sick for months. yet had more with ds and was less ill.

if either of mine try it on with an early morning wake up they get dragged into my room and can either sleep with us or potter about the room til i'm ready to get up.... and my limit during summer is 8am

had a miserable day today... lots of pain for some reason. trying to convince myself it's just stretching pains (although how i can have stretching pains with my third preg in 4 years is beyond me). no bleeding so hopefully all is well.
