how large laidback? [idle curiousity]

laidbackinengland · 23/07/2008 17:37

DS1 was 8lb 8 , DS2 10lb 4, DS3 was 8lb 8. So its just the middle one that was really big...but they seem to things i am gestating some sort of baby elephant !

rosieposey · 23/07/2008 20:25

Back from Bristol and scan - all a ok and even saw little arms and legs and movement and heard heartbeat for the first time

Friend rang from Exeter to say that they are having huge bbq for me when i get down there this weekend and ill get to see lots of friends that i havent seen in a year - i try to get down more often as my mum lives in west Devon but kind of got away with it this year as she spent Christmas in Surrey with me. Think its going to be really hot though so lots of magicool and sunblock will be required. DP, DC's and dog are planning some mischeif whilst i am away i think but late nights and long lie ins wont hurt if im not there to moan at them Still, getting quite excited at the thought of a weekend to myself!

PinkTulips · 23/07/2008 21:32

did you deliver ds2 vaginally or were you made have a CS?

was watching an american birth show the other night (just to cheer myself up that no matter how bad ireland is, the US is worse ) and a woman there was induced early and threatened with CS becuase of her 'huge baby'..... he was 8lbs5oz

i was screaming at the tv in frustration at their nonsense, she was being told there was no way she could go to term and deliver vaginally as the risk of shoulder dystoxia was too big and the chances of the baby fitting out were tiny

makes you wonder what the hell these american docs are taught in med school doesn't it.... ds was 8lbs10oz and the docs here refered to him as 'a good size but not huge'

she told the same woman to supplement with formula as there was no way a mother could satisfy a big baby with breastmilk alone [head explodes]

rosie, your weekend away sounds fantastic, bet your itching to be gone! i wouldn't worry about what dp and the ds's get up to... what you don't know can't hurt you

LittleSarah · 23/07/2008 21:57

8lb 5oz is 'huge'? Madness. A girl in my antenatal class last time had a 10lb 10oz boy, which is fairly large but a guy at my uncle's work was a stone! Eek. Definitely would have a caesarian if that was the case.

Well phoned midwives today, eventually put through to EPU. Basically I'll call back tomorrow if there is no change and then hopefully they will say SCAN. They said that bleeding is quite common at this stage because of something to do with placenta development. Felt marginally reassure. For about two minutes.

Laidbackinengland and rosieposey - glad your scans went well, that's always fantastic.

rosieposey · 23/07/2008 21:57

He he i know your right - there will be pizza and late nights galore but like you said ill be having a bit of fun myself!

Thats crazy about that woman being offered a cs based on her 'huge' baby! I think they are so scared of getting sued over there though that it clouds their med school training and makes them overly cautious

PinkTulips · 23/07/2008 22:16

it always makes me so sad watching these american programs the position the women are forced to give birth in, every one of them is lying flat on their back with their knees up to their ears

i tried one push on my back with dd and screamed so loud the MW immediately made me turn on my front and get up on my hands and knees.... and i didn't feel a single contraction after that! i ended up giving birth on my back with ds (couldn't turn back on my front as i could feel his head between my legs!) but with my legs to the end of the bed to brace myself. the MWs didn't lay a hand on me either time unless necessary.

it actually makes me weepy to see them with nurses shoving thier legs back and pulling their heads forward... it looks so painful

TinkerBellesMum · 24/07/2008 00:56

They say that bigger babies are easier to deliver because your body has more to work with (spoken to mums of preemies and term babies and all say the same).

I was on my back with Lily-Hope, I couldn't really move. What I did do though, which I thought was odd until I read The Water Birth Book, was I raised my hips, very odd position! I didn't need to push or get the urge to (was mentally trying to pull) I just raised my hips with each contraction and my body worked with it.

I was sat up with Tink, didn't really hurt or anything and I was convinced they were going to stop it and knew I was going for a CS if they didn't, so wasn't thinking about the best position.

Tupperwife · 24/07/2008 09:05

I've been lurking for a while, and pretending that the growing bump was just made of biscuits, but had the 12 week scan earlier this week so figured I should come out!

I'm told I'm due 31st Jan but think I'm really around a week later... MIL is starting to come out with stories about how big and long DH was at birth, so hearing nightmare US birth stories is already very scary.

dinkystinky · 24/07/2008 09:09

8lbs 5oz huge??? I have a colleague at work who gave birth (vaginally) to a 10lb DD and then, two years later a 11lb 5oz DD (mind you, both she and her DH are very tall people)! My DS was 9lb 4oz so am keeping my fingers crossed this one isnt over 10lbs....

LittleSarah · 24/07/2008 09:39

Well, was just about to say that there was no bleeding this morning when I went to the toilet and saw bright red blood. And not just spotting. Even though I've been scared of this I can't quite believe it. I have a scan now at 1pm today, I'm not feeling very optimistic.

dinkystinky · 24/07/2008 10:02

LittleSarah - will be keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes ok at your scan today and that this is just a false alarm.

laidbackinengland · 24/07/2008 10:05

Good luck with your scan LittleSarah - I hope it is not bad news.

PinkT - I had DS2 vaginally at home and it was OK apart from a mild shoulder dystocia and McRoberts manoeuvre !

TinkerBellesMum · 24/07/2008 11:16

I hope everything's ok for you LittleSarah. Although we said to you before brown is ok, that doesn't mean red is bad, red is fresh it can happen after sex or a TV scan because the cervix has extra blood and can bleed when knocked or it can be something like previa. There are different causes. So either try not to think too much about it or try to think there are lots of reasons.

Has anyone else popped yet? I'm looking pregnant already and lying in bed the other day I could feel the top of my uterus. I looked huge this morning, I hate the post-section look I have - if you are having one done with this baby, ask them to rejoin the fat layer, it gives a better look!

rosieposey · 24/07/2008 11:30

Littlesarah am really rooting for you and i hope its good news - lots of women bleed ( some get alot more than spotting too ) and its still ok - sometimes there isnt even an obvious explanation for it. Good luck anyway - will be thinking of you this afternoon

Havent popped here Tink but then again think i look permanently popped so dont really reckon i show till at least 4 or 5 months lol - thats a good thing though being as i will be six months when i get married.

PinkTulips · 24/07/2008 12:24

don't worry too much little sarah, as long as it's just blood and not other material there's a good chance it's just 'one of those things'. fingers crossed for you

that's so weird TBM, i raised my hips up too to deliver ds.... braced my legs on the bottom of the bed and sort of tilted my hips up. i'm sure poor dp thought i was writhing in agony but it just seemed more comfortable that way. he was a lb and a half heavier than dd and easier by far to deliver so firmly believe big babies are easier. and both of them came out with their arms across their faces for i must still have room to spare on the exit path

my bump is freaking me out tbh, some days i look 5 months gone and others i just have a little roll of flab. it's driving me mad as for some reason i'm finding it difficult feel pregnant this time and a bump would help me with that.

TinkerBellesMum · 24/07/2008 12:32

I@ve gone from having a hard bump this morning that looked about Mid-T to having an empty bump (like after you've had a baby).

Highly recommend the water birth book, even if you're not having one, as it explains labour and birth really interestingly, going into what happens to animals in the wild and how it relates to us. It's funny the things I did in labour that is described. I think because I was in denial I didn't over think anything and allowed my body to go with it so had a far more primal birth.

dinkystinky · 24/07/2008 12:54

Its funny isnt it - some days I look very pregnant (just like a weeble), other days nothing showing at all (or just like I've eaten too many pies that weekend).

PinkTulips · 24/07/2008 13:01

will have a look and see if i can get it cheap online somewhere.

what's the full title and author?

MarkStretch · 24/07/2008 13:15

I HAVE A SCAN DATE! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

IT'S NEXT TUESDAY YAY!!!!!

I AM EXCITED!!!!

PinkTulips · 24/07/2008 13:29

excellant news markstretch.

Gina80 · 24/07/2008 13:41

Kazza, bet mine's out already too, mind you stepping over the stairgate today wasn't the wisest of moves!

Hope everything is ok littlesarah and your scan is going well. I had a bright red bleed with DS, it was an ectropian cervix and everything was ok but it's still an awful worry.

Congratulations Markstretch - finally eh! it's not long to wait now.

I have a cracking bump today - definately more like 4mths than 8+5!!!!

TinkerBellesMum · 24/07/2008 14:42

The Water Birth Book by Janet Balaskas. There's a website of the same name too.

MarkStretch, really pleased for you, should be a lot easier for you now.

I wonder how many people who say they already look pregnant are second(plus) time around and whether first timers are feeling the same

NervousMouse · 24/07/2008 15:00

I have my scan date too, came in yesterday but it's not until 12th August!
