STOP WITH THE SCARY STORIES EVERYONE!

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 13:55

Yeah, the disease I have causes 1 in 10 miscarriages and the figure goes up with each one. There's less than 18% chance of a live baby out of it. Treatment completely reverses that risk though and makes it less than 18% chance of something going wrong. There are other problems that can be detected, I'm amazed how many mc's whose cause is identifiable but they say the chances of finding a reason are very slim and it's just not true. It's seen as expensive to test but it could save future pregnancies for that mother.

That's why I always say to anyone who has problem pregnancies to push for testing.

Sorry, don't mean to be so depressing on an antenatal thread!

PinkTulips · 22/07/2008 14:11

Markstretch, sorry i've been using MN so long and heard the best and the worst of stories while preg so am slightly immune now. i forget others aren't

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 14:30

Sorry MarkStretch. I think I'm a bit like PinkTulip.

MarkStretch · 22/07/2008 14:54

It's ok, just don't want to worry myself to death.

dinkystinky · 22/07/2008 15:37

I'm with Markstretch on this one - dont want to spend the next 7 or so months worrying myself to death, though I fully appreciate that there are lots of people who have to be worried throughout their pregnancies and really feel for them. Have voted for Bliss Tink - think its a great cause. Why dont you post a request for people to vote for it on the pregnancy thread (may get lots more responses)?

rosieposey · 22/07/2008 16:09

Voted for Bliss too - gotta say that im aware of what can go wrong and some days im really philosophical and just think that whatever will be will be but most of the time i think about my lovely baby that i will get in another 6 and a bit months

Its perfectly natural to worry ( for most of us ) but being pregnant is supposed to be enjoyed too, i think that once most of us are past the 12 week mark then it will be a little less disconcerting statistics are statistics and someone has to be the unlucky one (or ones) you just have to hope and keep positive and happy

Am off to Devon this weekend to see an old schoolfriend ( i used to live there and grew up there ) and Ive told her im pregnant, however im still going to get dragged out for a raucous night out or two and im seriously considering turning into a hermit for a while after that as is quite frankly dull as s*t watching other people get p*sed weekend in and weekend out when you stay sober and everything isnt quite as funny as everyone else finds it

PinkTulips · 22/07/2008 16:29

can't stand watching others get drunk when i'm sober either rosie.... it's so incredibly boring listening to drunken rambling speeches and watching them make complete tits of themselves, and being asked every 5 mins 'you ok? cheer up love, you're very quiet tonight'

it might not be too bad though, i was dreading going out with friends recently as i thought they'd all be plastered but either they stayed relatively sober or i didn't seem to notice they were drunk and had a good enough night

MarkStretch · 22/07/2008 17:46

DH has come up with a boys name he LOVES.

It's Zed. Hmmmmmm [hmm}

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 18:08

There are a few of us posting vote for bliss around the site.

I think I probably know more than I want to about pregnancy and have probably become rather immune to everything, I'll accept I'm pregnant when I have a baby.

Statistically we're past the worst point (4 weeks) and each week it drops, we're now at a very low risk time, then once you're viable you can just be glad another week is a stronger baby.

LittleSarah · 22/07/2008 18:59

rosieposey - THANK YOU FOR THAT! Just tried fetal monitor and heard sweet fa. I read your post to df and he literally sighed with relief when he heard your bit about 14 weeks! Still paranoid though - of course! - but not about to hop down to hospital right away. Am going to phone midwives tomorrow though.

Zed eh? Hmmmm....

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 19:09

Is it a fetal monitor or a Doppler? A Doppler will pick up sounds from 14 weeks because it uses ultrasound, whereas a fetal monitor is a microphone and amplifies what it picks up, so it can only really pick things up from around mid-T.

Gina80 · 22/07/2008 19:20

at all the horror stories!!! I've had 4 m/c's and a CP and am a nervous wreck at every twinge despite having seen a healthy baby and heartbeat last week!

Littlesarah - the one that I had said not to expect to hear much until 21weeks but I managed to hear it at 18. (well convinced myself I did )

LittleSarah · 22/07/2008 19:23

Phew. Thanks people, it is a doppler, but says on the back you can hear from 12 weeks, which I am, just.

However went to loo and definitely very very very light brownish colour when I wipe after a wee. Argh. Def phoning midwives tomorrow, however can't go in as I'm working and only work two days a week!

onwardandupward · 22/07/2008 19:27

LittleSarah, remember that your uterus is still waaaaaay down low probably behind the pelvic bone. So it might well take a midwife who knows what she's listening for to be having a good listen around right down low in order to catch a heart beat and even then, remember mine said it was 50/50 whether we'd get lucky or not.

But still, the spotting must be really worrying - I hope you can get it checked out soon.

I've been pacing myself to get to 12 weeks and then I'll be in the second trimester and won't feel so sick and tired all the time. This may have been an unfortunate strategy... no sign of it easing yet (but hey, I'm only 11+3 still, I've got 4 days till I am planning to start blooming)

LittleSarah · 22/07/2008 19:29

onwardandupward - my recent reading informs me that the second trimester does not begin until the end of week 13...

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 19:32

Gina, I'm not surprised you're a nervous wreck! I did try to keep the horror level down, so sorry if I've worried you more! Did you have a reason given for your MCs?

LittleSarah, brown is good, it's old so isn't something that is happening now. Last time I bled every time I had sex or a TV scan, it was brown a few days later.

onwardandupward · 22/07/2008 20:12

Shaddup littlesarah I'm not listening (fingers in ears la la la la la la la)

(well, 40 divided by 3 is indeed more like 13 or even 13 and a bit but I think I'll continue in my little bit of denial and then have a complete collapse in exhaustion and disappointment next week when I'm still sick)

laidbackinengland · 22/07/2008 20:16

Evening all ! I have my scan tomorrow and will be 13 + 3 (I think). The only blooming I have done appears to be in the tummy area ! I have become rather addicted to Soleros (well they do only have 99 calories) and they seem to get rid of my evening nausea which ebbs and flows from about 4-7.

MarkStretch · 22/07/2008 20:22

Laidback I am so jealous. I don't know if I mentioned this but

I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY SCAN DATE! HELLLOOOO HOSPITAL?!?!

Does anyone know when you should stop taking folic acid?

TinkerBellesMum · 22/07/2008 20:26

Folic acid should be taken for the first 12 weeks.

I've got my second scan on Friday. MarkStretch, does your GP not use choose and book? I think you need to get proactive!

laidbackinengland · 22/07/2008 20:28

Deep breaths Markstretch, in 1,2,3,4 out 1,2,3,4. You will give yourself a hernia !

What was the protocol for scans last time ?

MarkStretch · 22/07/2008 20:29

Well I have chased it up once and they told me the delay is because I am consultant lead and he is only in tuesdays blah blah.

I am hoping he read my notes today and I will get a letter by the end of the week. If I haven't heard by Friday I will get on the blower, you mark my words!

Thanks Tink, I guess I can stop taking it soon then.

MarkStretch · 22/07/2008 20:31

I had my first baby in Belfast so I have no idea about here. I'm wondering if that's why my notes are taking a while too... I have no idea.

LittleSarah · 22/07/2008 20:32

Markstretch - have you nagged midwives?? Do it!

onwards - I got through pregnancy 1 thinking end of wk 12 was end of T1, yet now I find I'm totally wrong. Honestly knowing too much is not always for the best. Last time I hadn't heard of a missed miscarriage...
