lardybump · 20/07/2008 14:24

Thank you Tinkerbellsmum.

I would love a home birth but DP has rules it out as we have a lot of problems with DD. We nearly lost her had I been at home
we may well of done...

I live in Kent and I have one dd already who is 16 months old...

MarkStretch · 20/07/2008 14:24

I have been cleaning. Lots. I'm worn out but my house smells of bleach and polish and there is no dirt or dust.

And I have done two loads of washing.

I even scrubbed the orange playdoh off the front of the fridge where it has been welded for the last year.

Aaaahhhh it feels good.

lardybump · 20/07/2008 14:25

had a lot of problems with dd not have. we have no problems with her now just during the birth

LittleMissNorty · 20/07/2008 15:36

Hello all

Welcome Lardy bump....I'm in Kent as well and have a 14 month DD and 11 weeks today

I think I'm also going down the elective CS route....had a crash CS last time and it was all pretty scary...

Gina80 · 20/07/2008 17:13

Hi everyone & welcome fellow newbie Lardybump!

I really wanted a HB last time but DS was breech so ended up with a planned CS (hate the term elective as it was NOT elective on my part). However it was really positive and whilst ttc I was 100% another CS - now I've swung the other way an thinking definately a VBAC. Too chicken for HB now tho

PinkTulips · 20/07/2008 19:23

lord knows if i'll be able to afford a homebirth, only choice here is independant midwives and they're very pricey. would kill for one though, am going to be scrimping and saving to afford one. had 2 hospital birth where my wishes were totally ignored and i was made to feel horrible. and with dd they managed to cause massive haemoraging and a partially retained placenta through their complete and utter lack of basic knowledge.

dp convinced me to go to hospital last time on the basis that dd needed resussitation and that could happen again but i regretted it so much and so did he. it was another really unpleasant experiance.

i'm with onward, it's alot braver to go into hospital these days and i'm not that courageous after the last 2 times.

am feeling the odd flicker of movement but not as much as i think i was feeling with ds at this stage so i'm panicing myself a bit now. don't feel properly pregnant, even with the overabundance of symptoms... roll on aug 1st!

enjoy your sunday evenings everyone

onwardandupward · 20/07/2008 19:29

Are homebirths not supported by the Irish National Health then? Pffft.

How much do Independent Midwives cost around you? And how far are you from a hospital? My understanding is that midwives carry all the kit with them for resuscitations, either of the mother or the baby, and then if needed they'll blue light you into the nearest hospital. But it might be different in the RoI, I don't know.

Singingintherain · 20/07/2008 20:56

Hi, How are you all?

Feeling rather sick today and have a bit of pain, but just manged a lovely plate of Somerset Pork with apple, onion and mashed potatoes. Yesterday I went to a well know furniture shop and they gave me a wheelchair, it was great, but meant that I was able to stay for a lot longer. DH did not know what he had let himself in for There was just no stopping me. But at least we ate lunch there.

Is anyone else taking Pregesterone 200mg? I have been taking it for a few days now and have noticed some effects but I am not sure if they are related. Has anyone noticed any differences if taking it.

As for being cold, I live in Spain and it has been cold today too. I am always cold. The trouble is I can not stand heat either so all the fans are out for when we see the sun again. Our summer here has not started yet, but I do not live in the South.

Just managed to tell my Mum about being told the gender of the baby and she is really pleased too.

I have been looking around on the internet and also asked the question about it being too early. I was told yes it was early, but it is possible althought not normally until after 11 weeks, I am nearly that although he thought that I might be 11w5d , but I am sure I am only 10w4d. I am not taking what he says to be true as I wanted a surprise, so I am not banking on the probability it will be a boy. I know that very often when people are told they are having a boy there are more mistakes made than when they they tell parents they are having a girl. I must say that this pregnancy is very different to my others of DD's. Let's wait and see.

TinkerBellesMum · 20/07/2008 21:09

I'm starting it at 16 weeks, but it's a gel I will be on. It's supposed to stop you from going into premature labour.

Gina80, that's exactly what I keep saying, I hate the word elective. Especially when they say "you had to have xyz last time so you will have an elective section this time" and move on to the next thing.

I've not heard from anyone about the map in awhile, please send me an email so you can be added to it. It doesn't show your exact location, you set it yourself, and it'll be an interesting look at where we all are.

IHaveASecretLittleSmile · 21/07/2008 10:00

I have removed myself from the list - I had a miscarrage late last night. Bleeding all weekend, so not really a surprise.

Very sad. Hope to TTC again in a few months.

List below.

So sorry to hear your news Hope to hear you're on another club soon.

Singingintherain · 21/07/2008 10:38

Can I ask a question? I have a really embarrassing problem of trapped wind.

Sometimes it is very painful and is putting loads of pressure on me around the tummy. My recent blood tests show that I may have gall stones and so have to eat a low fat diet because of this and I also struggle to eat salads for other reasons. I have possibly had gall stones for many years, but just live with it as it is not serious at the moment.

I do not want to moan, but would love to know if anyone else has had this. I want to take something, but are not sure if there are any more natural things I could do.

herbgarden · 21/07/2008 10:54

sorry to hear that IHASLS....really sad news for you - take care of yourself. Makes me very sad when I log on here to see those posts (and of course makes me worried)....

dinkystinky · 21/07/2008 11:46

Singing - I think some vegetables are worse for trapped wind than others (e.g. cruciferous ones, like broccoli, sprouts, cabbages, are likely to bring on an attack while carrots and peppers wont): may be worth trying to avoid those. You may want to up your fruit content which will help your digestive system flow abit better but best bet is probably speaking to your GP about it...

PinkTulips · 21/07/2008 11:53

IHASLS, i'm so sorry good luck ttc and i hope you'll be back on another thread soon

onward, nope HSE doesn't support homebirths at all. my closest hospital is 45 mins away so not good either way as i like to leave it late to head in late but 45 mins having bad contaractions in a car would be horrendous, especially when i don't want to be going in!

independant midwives cost between 2000 and 5000 euros, you can get a grant of 1000 towards that in some circumstances i think but either way it's alot of money and i'm not sure i'll be able to scrape that together.

singing, i have my scan booked for 13 weeks and she asked me if i wanted to know the sex it must be getting easier to tell now they have better scan equipment because it was definitely 20 weeks before.

i'm being quite productive today, i mopped the floors i'd forgotton what colour they were taking a break now to give ds a chance to fall asleep on me, then i'm planning on tackling upstairs... want to sort throgh my cupboards and box away all the clothes i won't be wearing for the next year. i picked up a few great tops in the charity shop at the weekend, all brand new end of line H&M stock and a few of them should last me right til the end.... very pleased with myself!

PinkTulips · 21/07/2008 11:57

contaractions they must be interesting!

ds likes to help type

WarmFuzzy · 21/07/2008 12:05

IHaveASecretLittleSmile . So sorry.

Singingintherain · 21/07/2008 12:51

Yes, checked it out and it is possible, but just not very accurate. My 2 dd's 13 and 9, are not sure how a little brother would fit in with the arrangements of having to share a room. So I think that not discussing it until necessary will be better.

My wheelchair arrived this morning, but I was still in bed. I just made it to the gate before he left. I am looking forward to trying it out. My dd's find it fun as it is a new toy. At least I can get out now. I have been stuck in for the last 4 weeks as I have had to have complete bed rest due to bleeding and pain. My insurance company Doctor agreed that I needed to get out and this was the best way. I know that I am not ill, I am just unable to walk very far, I feel such a fraud. I am hoping that it might ease in a few more weeks.

Going for some blood tests tonight in the City, so going to try it out .

I haven't posted for a while has have been so knackered, no matter how much sleep I get it never seems to be enough.

Also difficult to get up the motivation to do much beyond the bare minimum. Especially at work.

I did tell my boss last week though even though am not 12 weeks yet. There have been so many changes in our dept and he's having to deal with loads of staffing problems I thought it best to let him know asap so he can factor that in as well! His reaction was 'oh my lord'...Told me he was very pleased for me personally but that as head of department he would now have to rethink what he was planning on doing as apparently he had been planning on promoting me. But now not until I come back!! .

Ach, well.

I went to a christening yesterday and had to get out the maternity trousers as nothing seems to fit. Also on the lemonade whilst everyone else was drinking champagne. A couple of people asked me if I was driving. No. I was dreading someone coming right out and asking me directly as I really didn't want to spill the beans at someone else's christening. A week and a half to go before my scan. Fingers crossed if all goes well I won't have to keep quite for much longer!

dinkystinky · 21/07/2008 16:02

Yay - I have finally kicked my cold and feel semi-human again!

Went down to Brighton over the weekend to see MIL (told her and SIL, via phone, about no2 and they were v happy) - MIL had very kindly got all DH's old toddler toys down from the attic, cleaned them and set them up for DS to play with - he was in seventh heaven and didnt want to come home (neither did DH who was busy reliving his toddlerhood with DS)! Anyone remember the big green tree house, the boot house and the big yellow teapot? Classics. Amused me rather as turns out MIL also had some weebles in her attic which DS was playing with - and he named one of them "mummy". Charming!
