Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TinkerBellesMum · 15/07/2008 11:19

It'll probably be during your appointment which is why you don't have a scan appointment if it's anything like my hospital.

Clarabumps · 15/07/2008 11:27

morning all- how are we. Dp told his parents at the weekend (who HATE me and didn't know we were back together)- they took it rather well. Not looking forward to seeing them in the flesh right enough.i have a question- does anyone have a playpen type thing for their dc? I'm finding it really difficult to go for a shower, pee, anything with ds running riot and putting building blocks in every open crevise he can find.will a travel cot do? i dont have either but really need to get something as i'me beginning to look like a tinker.

rosieposey · 15/07/2008 11:45

Blimey dinky - 12 weeks! I thought it might be a bit quicker than that but i think im going to have to wait a similar amount of time too as they have known since i am 5 weeks - Im sure i was only about 7 or 8 weeks last time ... ah well

Clarabumps had a playpen 11 years ago for DD3 and was really useful - think it was some hybrid travel cot/playpen thingy, anyway i dont know what the done thing is now but you should be able to get one at babies r us or something i think

dinkystinky · 15/07/2008 12:07

aah - thanks Tink. Come to think of it that probably is how they'll do it as letter also said appointment would be for hour and a half which is alot longer than the booking in appointment last time round!

Clarabumps - a friend of mine did the playpen thing with her ds; worked until he figured out how to pile the toys up against the wall of the playpen and escape (mini houdini!) - she rapidly became the world's quickest speed-pee-er! Generally I find its easiest to either (a) plonk DS in front of CBeebies or Wallace for 20 minutes if am on my own and need loo/shower (he doesnt get to watch much tv so is in seventh heaven when he gets to watch something - anything - on tv) or (b) if he's in particularly mischievious mood, take him upstairs into the bathroom with me when I go for shower and put up with having lots of toys ending up in the shower with me!

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 12:11

TBM.... but it doesn't! my back and ribs are already starting to throb and once i get bigger i'm just in agony 24/7..... i find the whole pregnancy drags so horrendously. would love to experiance the second trimester blooming that people talk about but never have.

clarabumps, i just used a travel cot with my 2 and it worked brilliantly, shove a few toys in there with them and they're entertained for a little while at least, and even when they get bored and cross they can't hurt themselves (or your electronic equipment!)

well my booking in will be at approx 16 weeks, haven't got a date yet. gotta love the irsh healthcare system, they really make you feel cared for

herbgarden · 15/07/2008 12:30

I used a travel cot too - but depends on how old ?? He soon got to the stage of not wanting to be in there. What about locking you both in and shoving a few toys his way which are waterproof and won't land up in the bath. I've always found ds quite happy to play/chuck things around til I'm done. Not quite as peaceful as 10 mins on your own but hey, things aren't quite like they used to be are they. Now, he's 2 and he'll sit in my bed with his books/my alarm clock/ any other rubbish he can find and amuse himself for 10 mins or sometimes he gets in too !!...

Had snack attacks twice in the night last night - 1.30am and 5am (this is like newborn feeding ?!) .....I really hope this insomnia/hunger thing passes sooooon !

herbgarden · 15/07/2008 12:31

sorry I mean "may" land up in the bath

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 12:51

i used to lock my 2 into the bedroom and use the en suite shower with the door to the bedroom open to keep an eye on them.

electric shower is broken now though and i don't dare lock them in the other bathroom with me as they're obsessed with the taps and would sald me alive playing with the bath taps while i'm in the shower!

i gate them into their room and hope to god the screaming is just them arguing and not someone with a broken arm for 10 mins while i shower..... needless to say i miss the other shower!

MarkStretch · 15/07/2008 13:53

I went to see a client today that I have supported for about a year but not seen for a month or so.

I walked up to her front door and she opened it and said

'BLOODY HELL! Are you pregnant or have you just put on loads of weight?!'

Nice.

How embarrasing would it have been if I had not been!

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 14:05

ouch.

she sounds charming

TinkerBellesMum · 15/07/2008 14:10

Last time I was pregnant I was in hospital from 20 - 24 weeks which actually didn't seem that long, then I came out and was in hospital three times a week for scans which made the days seem to go fast, I had a stay in at about 29 weeks because of strong BH ended up in for almost a week because I made my back worse and then delivered two weeks later. My pregnancy whizzed past in a mash of hospital appointments! Looks like this one isn't going to be much better.

laidbackinengland · 15/07/2008 14:12

Wat kind of support work do you do MarkS ? Obviously the kind that involves people with little tact !

MarkStretch · 15/07/2008 14:15

Tenancy Support laidback. Am getting very bored of it though.

laidbackinengland · 15/07/2008 14:19

I often find myslef a little bit unfocussed on work when pregnant....maybe you could do something different after maternity leave - will you have to go back to work ?

MarkStretch · 15/07/2008 14:27

I think so. I would love to do something different but I'm just not sure what? It has been ok up until now and suits me fine as I can work from home and can pick dd up from school and stuff but it's just not interesting me anymore y'know?

TinkerBellesMum · 15/07/2008 14:28

Oooh MarkStretch, I'm into Resident Involvement. I'm just starting up a new RA, been invited onto the HA's newspaper and Forum (the group below the board who discuss things to go to the board) and they've just asked me if I'll be on the Best Value Review (in the middle of writing this I've just had another email asking if I'll be the resident on something else!)

MarkStretch · 15/07/2008 14:32

Cool. We're always trying to get more people to take an active role in the way their support is delivered. I woke up this morning and though 'oh noooo work again' and then actually had a really productive day and really made a difference to two people so it does have its rewards.

It's great doing the court work and going in front of a judge and helping people to keep their tenancies when they have been on the verge of eviction but you do hear the same old excuses a lot.

TinkerBellesMum · 15/07/2008 14:41

Tell me about it! The biggest objectors I'm getting at the moment are the old RA who are slightly put out that I'm doing it and also so jaded by their experience they think we're wasting time and money.

The one complaint I keep hearing is that they ran a children's group on the estate and the parents didn't want to get involved. But why is that a problem? Surely that's what children's groups are for? I used to be in the Girl's Brigade and very few parents were involved, those that were it was bringing their daughter's more than coming with them. I want to provide a service to the estate and if that means providing childcare so the kids aren't climbing on garages and playing football on people's fronts and allowing parents to get on with things, then so be it.

Maybe the difference in my attitude will make a difference? I hope so!

MarkStretch · 15/07/2008 14:55

It's really hard to change people's attitudes isn't it? I remember being really excited about starting this job but you do get more jaded the more people you encounter!

Ideally I would like to stay at home and pop out loads of babies, and make things, like pretty dresses or bake cakes. And keep my house nice and tidy, and walk lots and drink tea with nice chatty people.

ROLL ON MAT LEAVE!

laidbackinengland · 15/07/2008 14:56

McDreamy - you had your scan yet ?

TinkerBellesMum · 15/07/2008 15:14

I've been in RI for about 4 years and seen some really good results, I'm also aware of changes in law, HA management and attitude that means a lot more is getting done than people are used to. Working with the HA from the top down means I have a different attitude towards them.

I had to laugh recently at a residents meeting there were only four residents there and I just sat looking between the other three as they listed their problems one after the other. I ended up jumping to the HA's defence and talking about an RA and what it can do. One of the guys from the RA said "she doesn't work for us, honest!" But he is going to learn that I will defend the HA to the residents but I will also defend the residents to the HA, some staff already don't like me because they know I will be honest and don't take messing.

Newb · 15/07/2008 15:45

Hi All

Please can you take me off the list. Bleeding started yesterday morning. Went to doctor. Missed miscarriage. Baby stopped growing 2 weeks ago (at 8 weeks) went to hospital for D and C. Home now recovering. Won't come back to this thread but i wish you all the best over the next months and will think of you.

DH and everyone here very supportive but I'm scared it'll be just a thing that happened that gets forgotten as we never saw him, just have one picture. But I was his mum for a few weeks....

Please think of us and send me baby dust for when we try again in couple of months....

Love Newb x

laidbackinengland · 15/07/2008 16:25

So sorry to hear that newb, good luck and baby dust for the future.

Good luck for the future xx

herbgarden · 15/07/2008 18:38

Sorry Newb about your loss. You had a scan at 8+4 too didn't you when all was ok so that probably makes it all the harder....take care of yourself.
