TS that makes me feel so much better. I'm going to have a chat with bean tonight and tell her that we're having a 10 min labour at 38-39 weeks

sazzles - genius! my monitor has a torch if I recall correctly (haven't actually unpacked it yet). That'll do....

Right, this terrible, terrible music is driving me insane and it's long past my bedtime (although early evening tv did drive me to have sneaky nap). Night everyone x

poppysocks · 10/07/2008 21:59

My goodness me. The idea of what sort of lightshade to have had never even occured to me. All these things that I didn't even know I was missing!

Dizzy. Mon afternoon best for me too as DD also in nursery am - wouldn't want to miss out on every bit of available breathing space at the mo! We'll sort out times etc. on e-mail. Ooh how exciting!

cyteen · 10/07/2008 22:01

Timmy Mallett? Shame on you pg1 I like/d some dodgy stuff as a young'un, but never sank that low.

Got a text from the partner of one of my NCT pals earlier, they've had a 6lb baby girl So that's 4 out of 7 who've now popped, and three girls to one boy! I'm happy but slightly envious at the same time...seems like ages to go till mid/end August.

Remind me I said that in a few weeks' time

stillhere · 10/07/2008 22:04

Every day I mean to get on here a bit earlier so I don't have to spend three hours catching up and every day it doesn't happen.... ho hum.

[brace yourself for rant coming up]

Last night my excuse was that I discovered pink smear of blood in my discharge after having a wee at 11.20pm, ringing the hospital expecting them to say it was okay, then having to drive there solo as DH stayed here with DS, having 45 minutes worth of monitoring, wee tests, speculum etc. etc. before finally getting back into bed (with a pessary) at 2am. Hallelujah. I don't think anyone here has a problem with TMI, if so apologies...

Anyhow was a bit teary this morning as still rather pinky first thing and been wearing pads on the advice of the midwife, which I found a bit depressing. Think I am moaning about nothing though as it's just thrush and possible urinary infection - but hoping that this doesn't bring bubs#2 on early. Some people were posting up lists of what they don't have ready, so to make you all feel better here's mine:

no radiators connected in house yet

no electricity on two floors

no kitchen or living room

half the baby clothes inaccessibly stuck in a dusty loft

rest of useful baby stuff with my mum being washed 2.5 hours drive away so minor panic and hysterical laughter when mw discussses preterm labour

I can't really cope with the idea of the baby coming any earlier than its due date, for obvious reasons.

[rant over now everyone can look back again]

Then read MN today and feel guilty about feeling crap as everyone's got a much better reason to mouth off then me. Dizzy, I'm thinking of you, and ChaCha.

In fact I've decided the only sensible way forward is to crack open a large box of Chocolate Tasting Club specials and a very chilled bottle of champagne. And maybe a couple of packets of custard creams, why not. Anyone?

TwilightSurfer · 10/07/2008 22:08

Buckets · 10/07/2008 22:23

Dimmer switch in the nursery is all you need, it certainly means cheap open lampshades are fine, esp with an eco bulb that takes a while to brighten up. We had one at our old house and it was fab, must get my dad to put one in here when he moves the lightswitch (we are supposed to be replacing bedroom doors and rehanging the opposite way but in reality have had no doors for 6m now!)

Stillhere, I've never heard of thrush bringing on premature labour, don't worry too much. I had it in my 1st, no symptoms other than the pink discharge - would guess she recommended the pads just to catch the melting pessary gubbins! If you're still shagging, make sure your DH has some Canesten too or he will just pass the thrush back to you.

stillhere · 10/07/2008 22:24

Cheers TS. Feeling better now all round having got that off my chest. And the custard creams helped too.

stillhere · 10/07/2008 22:29

Buckets ta for this. I think I was just a bit hormonal this morning and I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Actually I think shagging is well and truly off the agenda now until bubs#2 arrives as the idea of bringing it on early just makes me want to cry! Or is that an old wive's tale?

On a completely separate note, anyone got any feedback on Group B Strep? Got thoroughly confused about what the Doc told me about it last night - I got tested in preg#1 for it late on and was negative and was planning similarly here (in fact they're testing for it in the sample I gave last night anyway) - but with a homebirth planned (without much of a house... ha!) he was talking about the mw bringing necessary injections of antibiotics etc. etc. He did print me out some stuff but haven't had chance to get round to it yet...

libbyssister · 10/07/2008 22:29

Oh stillhere, poor you, will stop moaning about lack of moses basket (I was looking at the washing basket earlier thinking that it would do...) and sympathise with your house woes.

Pg1 - I remember thinking about the glare of a open-bottom lampshade with DS (he was 10 days overdue, I had time on my hands...). I solved this by getting something like this

stillhere · 10/07/2008 22:34

Cute shade libbysssister! I'm starting to think dimmer switch would be a good idea here too...

I'm sure the house will be finished by the time bubs arrives and we'll have a kitchen etc. etc. I just spend every day smiling at the builders and exaggerating my already huge bump to bring home the point that they need to get their arses in gear soon or I'm going to need them to don their catching mitts and fetch hot towels...

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 22:34

stillhere sweetie, don't be silly of course you're right to be worried and there is nothing worse than being in hosp last thing at night esp when dh couldn't be with you

get out the chocs and the fizz - you're just right

libbyssister · 10/07/2008 22:37

Had appt with MW today and got kinda down...

Baby is breech at the mo (33 weeks) and MW started talking about scans and turning it at 37 weeks if necessary

I KNOW there's time for him to turn round on his own... but it's making me nervous. Also it would mean that I couldn't labour at the local midwife unit if he was still breech, I'd have to go to the main hosp in Oxford. I'm not even gonnna think about CS. Too early.

So anybody know of tricks to turn them 'naturally'??

Also MW said that I would be home 'within hours' of the birth when I thought I'd be allowed to stay in the midwife-led unit for a few days. We have no family nearby and I just figured I could stay in for a couple of nights before tackling home.

None of this is disasterous, I know. But I'm just having to change my expectations. I'm glad I hadn't bothered packing that hospital bag FFS, most of it will be irrelevant if they kick me out after a few hours.

Booo. I'm being a misery. Sorry. Time for a cuppa and a biccy I think...

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 22:37

libbysister have sent you a message on facebook - I hope

libbyssister · 10/07/2008 22:44

Stillhere - Bet those builders are making lots of HILARIOUS childbirth jokes, huh?

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 22:49

libby did someone not say that swimming is good for turning them

TS and CC are the experts on breech I think
stillhere we were getting the house re-roofed when I was overdue with dd2 - you could imagine the roofers relief when they were finished before she arrived

Actually the builders are being surprisingly tightlipped about it all - or at least while I'm in earshot! Bless 'em. Most of them have got tots of their own so we get little corridor conversations about local swimming pools, their wives' and girlfriends' experience of childbirth, the utter joylessness of the Tweenies etc. etc.

Sorry to hear yours is being awkward and not doing as it's told (whenever bubs#2 is causing me grief I figure it's just its way of letting me know good and early who's boss...). I don't know anything about getting them to shift but what would the MW do at 37 weeks? I've certainly heard plenty of tales of other mums whose babies have sorted themselves out in due course, just as everyone was starting to stress. Positive thoughts coming your way...

libbyssister · 10/07/2008 22:57

Oh Sazzles, thank you for link, I'm ROFL about some of them. First time I've smiled in hours!

Later tonight I'm going to stick a torch up my fanjo and tell the baby to "turn towards the light"! Seriously does that WORK??!

yes libby it ABSOLUTELY works lol - remember to let us know in the morning how you get on

right ladies, pleasure as always but I'm off to bed, spare a thought for poor dh who is currently getting soaked through at t in the Park - ha ha ha, that'll sodding teach him for getting 10hrs sleep - karma bites you in the bum again

I know I know - am a meany sometimes but will make him his favourite traybake before I head down road tomorrow to make up for it

stillhere · 10/07/2008 23:02

Cheers for all the hugs - it really helps.

Our roof is actually one of the few things that's finished, and hopefully that means we won't have unexpected ensuite facilities in our living room once that's sorted.

Thinking of turning in soon for a good old wrestle with the bump pillow (that's as much excitement as I'm getting in bed at the moment by mutual agreement...) and to reach for the Rennies. Wishing you all comfortable nights, pleasant dreams and babies who spontaneously shift into more helpful positions by morning...

libbyssister · 10/07/2008 23:05

Yeah, I'm off to find a flashlight...

Night!
