Poppy - also mulling over the VBAC v. EC option and, if I'm honest, I'm rather hoping that another breech presentation will make up my mind for me. Good luck with the consultant tomorrow and I hope the he/she can give some sage advice to give you a push either way. And as mentioned by someone else, my obstretrician said today that 37 pretty much = 40 weeks as far as 'they' were concerned. Keep us posted - perhaps your viewpoint and the advice given to you will help decide me!

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:27

TS does the RAC initial thing bother you? do you even have the RAC in the U.S?

sazz what was the decision on the activities then?

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:29

mottram hall - not far from me

They have an offer on DBB plus they have a spa and as bing in water is about the only place I have no pain I figure we can at least relax a bit without the kids!

Sausageandmash · 08/07/2008 22:31

Sorry Poppy, missed your post. I too struggle with the thought of 'have I really experienced child-birth?' what with having an emergency c - section last time. I 'like' !!! the idea of a natural childbirth but know that it would be v heavily monitored, etc, so wondering if I just go for it, but also scared that I'll knacker myself out with a 24 labour and then have to have a c-section anyway. The sod of it is - we just won't know until we get there. Sorry, this was meant to be a helpful post but I've ended up just stream of consciousing!

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:32

poppy I can honestly say having done it both ways its not worth the worry we're all giving it.

Its not easy. Failure is not an issue as healthy baby the best way for YOU is all thats important

Its going to have to happen either way

the end result is the most important thing

You'll have forgotten all about it very quickly

you have to do whats best for you, DD, DH and baby regardless of opinions

ask them everything you want to ask them tomorrow and if in any doubt, go back and ask them again

am I not the first one to encounter this issue, you can all take a lead from me then!!!

this could all be over in 3 weeks for me

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:33

poppy whatever decision you make will be right for you. I had a terrible 'natural' delivery with my 1st over four days with a 4th degree at the end of it. Was 'told' to have a section for my next by an evil male registrar but was secretly planning with the best midwife in the world to have a homebirth! Sadly I don't live in the same place anymore so for DS2 and this one I am back at the hospital and marked as high risk but I don't regret saying no to a section - he was born at home no worries - it was right for me but may have freaked others out.

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 22:33

Dizzy funny you should ask about RAC... to your question, no there's not (i don't think) a company RAC but I'm a little concerned about RAC, REC, RIC, ROC, RUC....vowel middle names.

For example:
She has a good RAC (rack...boobs).
She just REC (short for recreation...a good lay).
RIC....that's a boys name...
ROC....that's a famous wrestler's name
She's a RUC....like a ruck sack...a bag...

See if anyone is over thinking this baby name thing it's me. When I start spouting stuff like the above DH's face goes completely BLANK.

GG We stayed at The Royal Bath in Bournemouth it was great fab staff - amazing spa - I had a pregnancy massage (was 16 weeks) but spent most of the time in the pool. We also did a DBB and the food was quite good too. Could pay a supplement for things on alacarte menu if nothing on set suited my very limited taste range.

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:34

S&M - Sounds like we're on the same wavelength here. Know what you mean about sort of hoping there's another reason for a section to take it all out of my hands. I think we had a similar sort of time of it last time too (undiagnosed breech)? Will let you know how it goes.

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 22:35

Poppy my very best friend said to me EXACTLY what Dizzy just said.

just on the same point - i think giving birth is a wonderful thing but I really don't think it is the way that you do it - I think that it is what you get at the end. 1000's of women have a 'natural' birth that they don't experience because they have an epidural - they have no idea what delivering the baby is like and they aren't given a hard time or made to regret it (nor should they be) the sense of achievement should be the fact that you have grown and kept this life safe and well and now it is here - does anyone really care what car you came in when you get to a party or whether you arrived by bus!!

God i'm full of wisdomshit tonight!

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 22:37

Must jump ship and care for RL matters.

Will catch up later..........

TS you're preaching to the converted. DH and I quite like a name beginning with D but as our surname also begins with D and I have huge norks I don't want to label any daughter of ours with DD initials

would hope it wouldn't be such an issue for a boy lol

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:43

well said giggle and NOT the part about talking shit

TS have a good day, hope to catch up tomorrow night, dh on lates again so if am not down visiting mum I shall indulge in some me time on MN

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 23:00

right i'm going to attempt sleep - night all!

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 23:01

me too, night girls

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 23:02

Hear, hear gg. Empowering stuff! You should be a motivational speaker. Feeling much more settled now about it all now, so thank you ladies!

So Dizzy. How are you getting on with the names? What are the current faves?

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow sazzles with the rain. My cousin's wedding in Worcester was washed out last year. Surely it can't happen again (and I'm not going to put ....s in there now).

stillhere · 08/07/2008 23:17

Haven't had a chance to get on here all day then spent three zillion hours trying to get through the day's chats. Blimey... don't we all have a lot to say?!

Sazzles so glad to hear that you're getting some responses and support - hope you're feeling better about it all now.

CaptainCaveman ahhh twas you with the mystery belly button. Makes sense about the lack of muscular support in that area although the thought that I have abs muscles anywhere is pretty amusing at the moment.

VG just to say I was on tenterhooks reading your threads through the day and am chuffed that all's good. It's amazing what goes on in there without us noticing, eh? Mine seems much more active than last time round - my mw helpfully said that once you've had one baby you've got some weird bit of sellophane like stuff in the middle bit of your belly where you used to have really helpful stuff, like muscles I guess... which is why everything feels so different second time round. I kind of lost what she was saying after she said sellophane, I have to admit. I like the idea of muscles.

After that less than inspiring post, I bid you all good night. Hope to do better tomorrow (didn't I say that yesterday too?!).

TwilightSurfer · 09/07/2008 07:33

2AM and I'm up...AGAIN. This time hunger pains. Honestly I didn't eat much for dinner. Nothing sounded good. Figured it was the heat. Yesterday was a scorcher. Toast and OJ for the moment...anybody want some?

DH worked late. Said that's going to be the pattern for a while. The LO might have something to say about that. She feels lower this morning. She going to walk out on her own, I SWEAR!

I did find a moment to discuss names. He just totally uninterested in any suggestions. He keeps repeating, "I think I just like Eleanor." So I will hold my ground and consider agreeing to Reese Eleanor but not the other way around. Even my preschool teacher best friend said using the middle name is ConFuSinG...she should know. So thank you for all the suggestions yesterday but it seems even with all the water in the Atlantic my DH prefers milk to drink.

To all seeing medical style folk today, best wishes. Bealcain, I'd LOVE to hear how you are progressing. For those not seeing professionals, may this be a worry free day without thought of stressful "should I" or "shouldn't I"'s.

Morning Everyone,

Its my birthday today and I am the ripe old age of 33 so i have brought lots of chocolate cake to share!!!!

DD you are a whizz on the old names.. we have definitely decided on Tess for first name but Alexandra as a middle name is still under debate so if you have any suggestions please let me know!!!!

Has anyone else being having painful BH's particularly at night?? I spent about two hours last night in agony, loads of pressure and quite a few ouches... but then nothing after that!!!!

Anyway have a good day all xxxx

VintageGardenia · 09/07/2008 08:03

Hi all, work today so a quick hello and thanks to everyone who sent good vibes yesterday. I thoroughly recommend EVERYONE to get checked if they are worried (even if they are pretending not to be), it's most reassuring. I would have gone on for days bleating "it's not moving" when the reality was I just couldn't feel it moving.

poppy I bf DS till 11 months but in the second half he did have formula too. We used Aptamil because it seemed easiest on his digestion and was also supposed to be closer to breastmilk. I don't know how things have moved on from there in the intervening years, other formulas may have improved. I was advised this time round if bf didn't take to use a goat's milk formula if I had to use formula at all, because dairy can be so tough on their digestion and skin. There's one called Nanny I think - but I haven't really thought about it or researched it, like you I suppose I am thinking I don't want to jinx the bf. On the other thing, I don't think you should feel guilty for taking practical considerations into account. If you haven't sufficient childcare options and so on, that's a pretty big deal and is going to be very stressful. I echo gg and dizzy on this.

Sazzles say if you still want playgroup ideas, or did you get it all sorted over your beer last night?

Sorry can't help on name front either, TS dare I say it maybe you and your DH should choose a name each, I think Reese Eleanor is a nice combination. A reason not to have Eleanor Reese (has this been said before?) is that there are two Rs which are hard to say together, it comes out like Eleanoreese, like one name. Better the other way round.

I think you are overthinking it with the RUC, REC thing though, when is this ever going to come up? If you say all my initials (I have five names plus surname) it sounds like a sneeze or as if someone is gagging me while I ask a complicated question, but no-one ever uses my initial combination except me when trying to demonstrate the sneeze / gagging thing. Poor you insomniac last night, hope you got comfy and got some sleep after your snack.

Sorry can't reply to all, have to shower & then disguise myself as normal member of general public before venturing to workplace...

VintageGardenia · 09/07/2008 08:05

Happy birthday to you!

just my type of brekker!

VintageGardenia · 09/07/2008 08:06

PS sarah my DS wants Tess if it's a girl. We've not decied on anything yet but it's a vv pretty name.

oopsacoconut · 09/07/2008 08:23
