Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 21:55

hi dizzy yes sometimes - all my children have names that can be shortened as I have one that can't but in saying that I usually call them their full names. She sometimes gets Is and more often Belle and very occasionally Issy

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 21:55

TS did you not like Lydia? I think its pretty

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 21:58

giggle what would you shorten Imogen to?
Immy?

Issy and Immy or Belle and Immy
Isobel and Imogen I think are fine when used in full form tbh - they are close but not TOO similar

Sibh · 08/07/2008 21:58

Delighted all went well VG.
Will share the biscuits to celebrate.

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:00

Ladies - could I have your views please.... Buckets - I think you may be in a similar dilemma..?

We are seeing the Consultant tomorrow, hopefully to get that date for the section. I am still having just a bit of a wobble over the VBAC dilemma though. What I'm wondering is whether I should push to leave the date to be booked in until after my due date and then if nature intervenes, that's fate talking.

I guess I'm wondering about this because of the feeling that I might be copping out by having a section, but also DD was v. late and if this one is hauled out even a couple of days early, that's a full fortnight less in utero which seems an awful lot.

Flip side though is that DH was totally freaked out by it all going wrong last time and we have been told that I would need to be v. closely monitored (ie not natural in any way really) and would prob. end up with a section anyway. It just is more sensible to go before my due date (I know they would prefer early in 39th week). Make more of maternity leave, won't have the exhaustion of labour to contend with just as the baby arrives (particularly cruel I've always thought!), our easy childcare is no longer available after start of 39th week, to me it just does feel safer for the baby etc. etc.

I know these are v. unmumsnet thoughts to be having around the practicility of a section, but if you'll forgive me and let me know your thoughts, that'd be great!

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:03

no don't think it would be immy, not sure i would shorten it at all - but I think it would be more likely to be Gen than Immy (for some bizarre reason makes me think of a dog!)and also we have a surname that starts in M and ends in Y so would be a bit of a tingue twister for the poor lass! So I guess it would be Belle and Gen which are nothing alike!

I think it was because I wrote the names down like this:

Isobel
Imogen

and out of 6 letters 3 are the same and in the same place!

Not sure why I am getting stressed about it

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:05

poppy this is NOT an easy decision to make and having a C/S certainly isn't the easy option as I'm sure you know

Sazz and I have been repeatedly debating it ourselves too and personally speaking I've got nowhere

its certainly not a cop out and don't let anyone tell you otherwise

will you have support for a wee while after it? remembering you won't be able to drive/lift baby or dd1/ shop/ hoover etc?

how many dc do you want? its recommended to have no more than 3 by C/S although am sure it has been done in certain circumstances

very quickly and on first instincts - if you had to chose how to deliver this baby tomorrow which would you choose?

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:08

Oh Dizzy - I was wondering that about formula too. Have been trying to pluck up the courage to start a thread about the best formula in the feeding thread, but rather scared - partic. in light of last post!

Because I'd planned to bf last time and thought that looking into formula would be to tempt failure, when that failure came, DH just went out and grabbed the first box he found. So, DD was on Cow & Gate. It was fine, but I'd have preferred to have made an informed decision. While I'm planning to try bf again, I am prepared to accept that it might not work and DD2 will be fine on formula if necessary.

So - can anyone inform me of anything on the subject? I've heard that aptamil is good and the easiest on the tummy.

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:08

giggle I think you and I are both guilty of overthinking things

Imogen is a lovely name and yes, nobody can deny that they're not similar but they're not drastically the same iyswim?

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:09

Sorry - will cease self-indulgent posts asking you to answer all my questions now!

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 22:09

Dizzy Lydia..... doesn't immediately grab me but it's on the discussion list. Maybe it's because it's so close to Claudia. Who know. Honestly it's not me naming this baby it's DH with all his name snobbishness.

Poppy you've got a good question there. The baby will perfect no matter what. If things will be overall easier having her early then I'd say do what's best for the both of you. No harm in that, at all.

PetitFilou1 · 08/07/2008 22:10

poppysocks I think you'll find Emily is a very lovely name There are three or four in reception in the local school though..but dd's name was in the top three and I still like it

TS Didn't you like any of my three names?

PetitFilou1 · 08/07/2008 22:12

dizzy just before I go, ds did fine on SMA Gold after I stopped b/f but lots of other mums said it caused constipation. Better things heard about aptimil or however you spell it

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:12

poppy i've never had a section but I certainly wouldn't see it as a cop out - the total opposite!

I think you have to do what is right for you and your family, listen to what the dr.s say assess the risks and go with what you feel. If you tried for a VBAC and it ended in another emergency Section would you regret it? If you went for a VBAC and it went well but you were monitored throughout would you feel you had acheived a 'natural' birth? If you go for a planned section in wk 39 and it is calm and smooth will you feel that you have missed out on a VBAC? Only you can answer them and you will never be 100% - I would say that you have more gyrantees about the tyoe of birth you have with a planned section the rest is just a mystery.

Plus my sister has had 2 DC the first was two weeks late, a tiny 6lb 10, jaundiced and readmmited two days after birth having lost a lb, the second was a day early and a very healthy 8lb 2 and out on a lb in the first week!

From what the consultant said to me last time I was there delivery at 37 wks plus has no higher risk for baby than being born at 40wks

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 22:13

oohhhh whopping great BH now - meep

petit I know its not the same but I understand what you mean, I sent dh a text asking him to call and it took 4hrs for him to do it - of course I said, what if I was in labour or something happened with mum

his reply - well are you or has there?

no?!?! but thats not the farking point!!!!!

poppy it is a huge decision and genuine concern and if you can't bounce your worries about on here then what are we here for!?

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:15

Thanks for those thoughts Dizzy. Knowing the date is a real help in terms of organising help with DD/housework etc. That wouldn't be so easy if I waited for labour and then ended up having one. As it is the plan is DH will take a week off work, then my Mum will come for a week and then DH off again - so 3 weeks covered if we know dates in advance. Hopefully after that I should be fine, more or less, esp. if it's been planned as I understand the recovery is generally faster.

Having said all that though, if it were to kick off tonight I'd prob. want to have a go. The practicalities of when just are important for us, much as they're not supposed to be.

Oh and all going well, this is def. the last one so no worries there!

Brands are so different here and there BUT if it is any help. I know at some point I will be FFing my child. This is what I used with DD#1 and will more than likely use with DD#2: Enfamil Lipil

This company has a prenatal lipil supplement that I've been taken this pregnancy as well.

BF vs FF......it's all about what works best for your own baby NOT what any group of ladies thinks.

OOH pf I'm envious of your DH I spent a large part of my teenage years in Bahrain - It's an amazing place. Unless he is stuck in one of the 3 week sandstorms. Sleep tight.

Am off to bed too as Dh is taxing my brain with questions about delivery date for work things for August - Does he not realise I don't care what he has delivered where in August I will be too busy panicing about whether i'm in labour or not everytime i go to the loo.

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:20

dizzy LOL at the four hour reply. My DH keeps going to the pub to play! there is one pub in our village that has NO phone signal so which one does he and his mate whose wife is due in two weeks pick!! Have mentioned it might be a good idea to drink elsewhere to which he dutifully says yes and nods only to return to the communication free zone the next time! Last time he did it we had the exact conversation you had - what if i was in labour, etc etc, his reply the same - well you're not are you!

poppy i'm so with you on this being the last one!

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 22:20

Petitfilou ,

Can't use Adeline...Close friend's daughter's name (whom I also nannied for)
Can't use Hannah (from Dizzy's list) for same reason...same family too.
DH didn't like any from of Gwen....and I tried them ALL
Can't use Catherine....I have a cousin on one side of the family and an aunt on the other with the same name.

TS shortlist what you like/can use and we'll go from there

gigglegirl · 08/07/2008 22:25

anyone ever stayed at a de vere hotel - thinking of booking a night in one for our wedding anniversary next weekend.

oopsacoconut · 08/07/2008 22:26

GG yes we have which one are you looking at?

poppysocks · 08/07/2008 22:26

Thank you for all your thoughts! I was thinking about it in terms of what I might/might not regret too gg.

I think I would regret not having experienced a natural birth, but would feel such a failure to not manage again - which I know would be a greater likelihood due to monitoring, how cautious they said they'd be AND we'd have had the inconvenience of waiting etc. In terms of regretting not going for the elective, I suspect I would whilst waiting and in labour! Also worried about complications as we came so close to it going horribly wrong last time. I do know that's not realistic or likely to happen again, but DH and I are both partic. scared of the risks and I'd really never forgive myself if something went wrong when we could have had a caesarean.

pf - Emily doesn't seem to be half as popular up here. Don't know any! 100s would be bound to come out of the woodwork though if that's what we go for!
