This is it!! Some of us have already started the descent into new BABYDOM. Best to arm ourselves with the facts. Here you will find the Signs of Labor. Just don't panic. Remember women around the world have been giving birth for ages. You are not alone nor will you be alone throughout this entire process. We are all here for each other no matter what. OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Buckets · 09/07/2008 08:24

Hi Poppy, I getcha but I have the opposite with the date issue! Having not got past 39wks before I am quite scared of the idea, although they won't induce a VBAC at least, induction scares me most. DD was 38+1 emCS and DS was 38+5 and they were both fine.
Seeing consultant next week and hoping to get 38+6 this time, as 39w is my sister's birthday. I didn't find recovery hard at all, in fact it forces you to rest for the first week which will be good for breastfeeding purposes. And our DPs will cope fine with the other kids I promise! The week after is much easier and you can do more with the other kids.

Got to find time (and childcare) to get nursing bra fitted soon, got a John Lewis voucher burning a hole in my pocket.

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 08:48

oops sadly I don't think dh will see much of Bahrain - he flies out, picks up a patient, treats them on the plane home (meaning staying awake a lot) and comes home or accompanies them to hospital then comes home. This means he comes home having had very little sleep, not having eaten properly (except this time he will be flying on civilian aircraft so may be better) and in a foul mood. I in the meantime have been looking after two dcs on my own while heavily pregnant. We have a nice lifestyle but at times like this I wonder if it is worth it. And dh is on nights for the whole of next week which ain't going to improve his mood much....
TS I think you are now stuck with Eleanor but it is a good name so don't worry about it! Just persuade dh round to Reese Eleanor. Crying after being in labour then saying please can we have what I want will work dh will agree on one name for ds2 and he just won't budge to consider anything else now. He is quite sure!

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 08:49

Sorry forgot to say Happy Birthday to Sarah - now getting a bit tired

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 08:56

Just posted this in chat as well, but any of you with dds already, what do I plan for dd's birthday given that I'm due to give birth three days beforehand? She is really excited about her party and has been for months so I can't pretend it isn't happening!

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:07

Happy birthday sarah!!! I shall of course indulge in some or your lovely SUGAR FREE cake that you made specially hoping you having a lovely lovely day

petit am right there with you, dh was supposed to finish at 1am last night, got home at about 4.30am and will sleep till e wakens - anyone else remember how that feels he starts at 6pm tonight and once again won't be home till around 4am and the tomorrow goes onto 15hr shifts for T in the Park so I technically won't see him till next week - ah the joys eh?

am going to cheat a little though as my aunt was meant to be coming up to stay and help me but with things the way they are with mum we've now decided I'll pack up the girls and go and stay with my aunt so I can see mum over the weekend AND hopefully if she's not too weak maybe take the girls into the hospice to visit?

do you think thats a good idea? am swithering a little. the hospice is such a nice place and not hospital like at all - am just not sure how I want them to remember her. She doesn't look ill just a little tired and her speech is weaker but would they notice?!?

AARRGGHHHHHHHH, fecking decisions [pathetic emoticon]

Buckets · 09/07/2008 09:12

PF Can you have one (or more) of her friends' parents on standby to take over at short notice? Can't remember how old you DD is but if those parents are invited to the party itself it won't be a problem for them to take on extra responsibilities. Most people really do dream of stepping in and rescuing a labouring woman!

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:12

sarah Tess is a lovely name
I don't know if you read but it was one of 3 contenders as a shortened version of Teresa - we have Tess, Rae and Reese as options and liked them all equally we just felt that Rae sounded best with Lexie

which is of course our nn for Alexandra for dd2 so am LOVING both your choices!

have a look at the lists I gave for TS as they were mainly longer names which I think would also go well with Tess - let me know what style you like and how many syllables and initial of your surname and I'll give it a whirl

petit sweetie I think you have to go down same lines as I did last week and pick somewhere that will basically run the party for you - least organisiation on your part the better - what age is DD going to be? does she have a favourite play area? is there a nice park outdoors with a good space next to it that you could go to and just have a big picnic (nothing fancy) and let them run daft in the play area for a couple of hours?

invite only those absolutely necessary - people will understand and emphasise to parents that they are more then welcome to stay to help and it would be appreciated - cake and fizzy water for parents too also goes down well

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:15

petitfilou have just checked and she's going to be 5 yes?

same as my dd and she LOVES all things to do with picnics - does she have a small group of friends who's parents you know and a local park with nice play area? am sure people will be more than delighted that you're doing something at all

and at aged 5 I wouldn't bother with party games etc, just let them run wild, tire themselves out, give them some food, sing happy birthday, a party bag and send them on their way

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 09:18

dizzy no that's my ds, dd will be 3 but thanks for quick reply! Actually you might be able to help with this too, need to get present for friend's 6 year old - what can I get - rather not just send a voucher as her mum has suggested, I don't think children understand vouchers...

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:19

6yr old boy or girl?

Expectant · 09/07/2008 09:21

Dizzy - think going to stay with your aunt is a great idea. Also think that you should take the girls to see your mum if as you say the hospice is a nice place and she doesn't look much different.

I woke up with a dreadful headache so decided to pull a sickie (sod work I've handed in notice after all)and have been watching cr*p tv over internet all day. Have antenatal class tonight so hoping DH manages to escape from work on time tonight as he's been putting in the hours recently.

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 09:24

ps dizzy I am glad you empathise with me on the dh thing! Am getting more and more tired as the week goes on....
Re mammydizzy I think going to stay with aunt & visiting yr mum is a very good idea. My dad's second wife had lung cancer, was in a hospice and suddenly went downhill very fast at the end after looking ok up to that point. It would be good if your girls could see her now if she is still in reasonably good form. It will also cheer your mum up.

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 09:25

dizzy sorry - girl!

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:25

thanks expectant its so hard to know what to do for the best in these situations.

my aunt is now freaking out as at least up here with me she knew where the hosp/matty was and all she had to do was drive me there, I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't out doing a dry run to the local labour suite this morning

sorry to hear about your headache - have you taken in plenty of fluids? I know its a bit cheeky to ask but its something I often forget myself

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:28

petit we gave dd1 a necklace with a butterfly on it for her birthday - cost us £10 and she LOVED it, She's not a particularly girly girl BUT getting some jewellery for her own made her feel very grown up - would you consider something like that?

I've seen jewellery in M&Co and Asda too as well as H&M and if you can get a wee set so much the better

any use or not what you were after?

PetitFilou1 · 09/07/2008 09:29

Yes sounds like a good idea but none of those shops nearby....Will do my usual and look on web ...

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:35

petitfilou have a look here

M&Co

H Samuel

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:35

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:37

Dizzy - have just popped to fridge for bottle of water.

Am now sweating buckets so not really sure what's wrong. I don't normally suffer from headaches so all a bit strange. Probably not doing myself any good looking at a computer screen so think I might go have a lie down for a bit.

Sorry to moan...

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:41

moaning is what we do best but I DO agree with computer not helping and a lie down from lack of sleep would help too - hope you're feeling better very soon

Hollow laugh re relatives who could take over for dd's party!

I think I am going to try and book a soft play place....

dizzy You are a star - have bought friend's dd lavender flower pendant from H Samuel. She'll love it and it was £10 off!

Will now be off for a bit as stuff to do before nursery closes early (aaargh) - thanks for all suggestions re party and presents!

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 09:54

glad to have helped PF

ladies I think you're all right, will head through at weekend and take the girls in to see her depending on how she is after the move

have just phoned ward and they are getting ready to move her this morning so hopefully she'll be recovered from all that 'excitement' by Sat - thank you all I seriously couldn't make a decision if my life depended on it at the moment

am off to tackle some of our paperwork dh has been ignoring so if you see me don't speak to me

VG hoping you're having a good day at work
TS hoping you're sleeping
