Maternity clothes are a real dilema and normal stuff is getting too tight. I bought some stuff in the next sale shop last week but none of it fits properly (they don't have fitting rooms) so I'm going to have to take it all back. There's no where else to buy maternity stuff in the centre of Oxford and may still have to resort to buying online.

Didn't think the Bump noticed that much but DS1 & 2 described it as 'Awesome' last night, DS2 then sang ,Twinkle Little Star to it in his best cherub voice. Bless.

Kate100 glad to here you're starting to feel a tiny bit better, perhaps this is the turning point.

Spacecadett - I had low BP, anaemia and dizziness with DS1 found stuff like Watercress Soup, oatmeal etc made a huge difference. I'm afraid iron tablets just made me flatulent

Hello everyone! am new to mumsnet am due with my first baby on 31 August 2005.

Suffer really bad asthma and have just been given amoxicillin for chest infection anyone know if there is any way antibiotics can harm my baby? x x x

Azure · 03/03/2005 15:20

Hello and welcome RachelJada. Sorry to hear you suffer from asthma. Presumably your doctor knew you were pregnant when you were prescribed antibiotics? Not all antibiotics are suitable when pregnant, but there are a number that are, and presumably you've got one that is suitable. How's the pregnancy been going so far?

colinsmommy · 03/03/2005 15:50

RachelJada. If I were having to take antibiotics in my pregnancy, amoxicillin would be my pick. I'm not a pharmacist, but worked as a pharmacy tech for 8 years, and from everything I've learned it would be my choice. If you google amoxicillin + pregnancy, I think you will find a lot of useful information.

Welcome to the due in August board. Twiga and I are also due the 31st, so it will be nice to have someone else hanging around till the end of August with us.

bluestar · 03/03/2005 19:08

Hi all - haven't been around for a while and am still not feeling great. Still the odd occasion when I am sick and still feel sick all the time plus being so so tired. Started to feel really faint this morning too which I had around this stage with ds.
Re: maternity clothes - I know what you mean about the winter/summer dilemma. I need some clothes now but reluctant to buy too much as bump will be so much bigger when it is warmer. Did buy some over bump jeans the other day and they are so comfortable for this stage.
Anyone had their second scan yet? Anyone going to find out sex?

blossom2 · 03/03/2005 19:16

i've got my second scan on 25 march and YES i'm definitely finding out the sex of the baby!!! can't wait really.

josey · 03/03/2005 20:20

blossom2 - last time i had iron checked i was fine, i normally have low bp and when im pg it seems to get lower, even when i should have raised bp it only gets to a normal rate that probably why i function better when stressed who knows what is wrong with me!!!

Feeling alot better today although knackered ds was up at 5am with a bad nose bleed he is prone to them, they started when he was 4 weeks old, (i wont try to spell it) but he has had the thing done 2 years ago, which has made a difference they used be everyday now only when has a cold, hoping he will be fine tonight
welcome racheljada

Miaou · 04/03/2005 08:51

Hi everyone. Bluestar, about the m/s - it must be so miserable when you are still feeling so bad at this stage! Sympathy to you and Spacecadet and all those who are still suffering.

I've got my detailed scan on 16th March - slight concern about childcare as we have to go up to Inverness, so have to leave before the children go to school, and won't get back until after they have come home, but not worrying about it yet. We have got birth defects on both sides of the family so want to be prepared if there is anything to deal with. However we don't want to know the sex of the baby, to the point that we will ask for the screen to be turned away just in case we see! Could be interesting ... one of the defects they will be looking for is to do with ovaries ... however we have had these scans before and no-one has let slip so hopefully we will be ok. Anyone else not want to know the sex of the baby?

Twiga · 04/03/2005 10:05

Welcome to the thread Racheljada and congratulations on your pg ! Colinsmommy has already said but there's a couple of us due on the 31st so there'll be plenty company right to the end!

Miaou, I want a suprise too! However Dh is a Dr so may be able to tell and has said if he can then will tell me (would be keeping it a secret though) otherwise we're just see what we get in Aug. There's a couple of things they need to check for us that involve detailed scanning of the tummy area so it may be unavoidable - we're see.

Think I was being optimistic when said my morning sickness had passed, the horrible dry retching thing is now leading to throwing up again -yuk!

Azure · 04/03/2005 11:36

My scan isn't until April 19th - absolutely ages to go. My triple blood test is next Friday. My delivery from Jojomamanbebe arrived yesterday. I haven't had a good look yet (was in the office until 11pm as it's my busy week at work), but the cords look quite nice, if somewhat hilarious - they're over-the-bump and at the moment almost reach my bra. I've also got a nice warm zip-up cardi which I should get some decent wear out of.

kate100 · 04/03/2005 12:44

Welcome racheljada, sorry that you haven't een feeling well.

My scan is on 18th March and we're really torn about whether to find out or not. We didn't last time, although we were pretty sure by the time he arrived. This time I think I'd like to find out so that we can be a little bit more prepared on the clothing front, as we'll have less time with already having DS. If we do find out we won't be telling anyone.

colinsmommy · 04/03/2005 16:45

It looks like I will be getting a scan today, although I would rather not be. I've been bleeding lightly but steadily since about 6:00 last night. I go in to the dr. in about an hour, and I know it was fast for them to get me an appointment an hour after the office opened, but the wait is driving me crazy.

Azure · 04/03/2005 17:43

Colinsmommy I really hope everything is ok for you. Thank goodness you've been able to get an appointment so soon.

Twiga · 04/03/2005 18:20

Oh Colinsmommy, I hope you're ok, thinking of you, lol x

Miaou · 04/03/2005 18:56

oh wow colinsmommy - I really hope everything is ok for you. Please let us know how you get on when you can.

Nome · 04/03/2005 19:54

What news colinsmommy? I hope everything was ok.

colinsmommy · 04/03/2005 19:58

Thanks for the thoughts. Fortunately, I have nothing but good news. My bleeding is coming from the outside of my cervix. Its not the prettiest story, but I don't know how else to explain what happened. I have a yeast infection that I've been treating for the last few days, and the infection and the medicine have been irritating the cervix, causing it to bleed. That and my cervix is in a strange spot, so it looks like I scratched it with the applicator for the medicine, too. She said my cervix looked like a skinned knee. Everything was fine with the baby, and I didn't even get a scan, because it was so obvious where the bleeding was coming from. I'm so tired right now, because I was up at least every hour last night trying to see if the bleeding had stopped. Colin's going down for his nap, but am so relieved I don't even know if I can sleep. Sorry for rambling, just emotionally and physically exhausted. And sorry for the graphic story. That is how big my smile is, though.

Miaou · 04/03/2005 20:03

Oh, I am so relieved, thank goodness it was ok! You must have been so worried, cm.

colinsmommy · 04/03/2005 20:09

Thank you. I really am relieved. When I heard the heartbeat, I started crying, and when they told me what it was that had happened, I only cried harder, and couldn't stop. My poor DH didn't understand what was going on (doesn't like to deal with "female problems", so he had no clue what she was talking about) and thought maybe it was bad news. I feel really dumb, but don't care.

Miaou · 04/03/2005 20:16

IKWYM, cm, men don't seem to understand that you can cry with relief as well as misery! Here's a row of smiles for you and your bub:

Azure · 04/03/2005 20:43

Hurrah hurrah hurrah! What massive relief you must be feeling after this scare.

josey · 04/03/2005 20:49

aw colinsmommy thank goodness everything is ok, you must be so happy.

Sorry your feeling sick again twiga, its horrible you start to feel so good and then bang its back to haunt you - i have deceided not to get hopes up again

Maiou you will be ok they wont tell you at Raigmore so unless you can work it out yourself you wont know.

Twiga · 04/03/2005 21:43

colinsmommy, so glad that everything is well with you and the bubs !

Miaou · 04/03/2005 21:51

I'm feeling slightly happier this evening myself - hadn't felt the baby move for two days - which is not really surprising given that it is still so small - but you can't help but have it on your mind, can you? Anyway, as I got up to have a bath this evening I was given the most enormous kick - no mistaking it! Phew.

Eulalia · 05/03/2005 12:24

Just caught up with you colinsmummy - what an awful scare and I am so glad everything is OK with the baby. Hope your cervix heals up soon.

RachelJada - welcome!

My scan is on the 15th - coming round quickly. Am not going to find out the sex but was tempted as I need to start getting rid of baby clothes. Got 2 sets (boy and girl) and all the cupboards are full.

What is everyone doing for mothers day? Am taking my mum out for lunch with my sisters. Have to take the kids with me so hope they behave.
